Texas should stop subsidizing grid drain, reward grid relief

Editor: We’re giving billions in sales tax breaks to an industry draining our electric grid and water, while taxing the homeowners and businesses actually helping solve the problem. Since 2013, Texas has given qualifying data centers a sales tax exemption. The cost has exploded from .6 million in 2014-15 to a projected .3 billion in 2028-29. In return, Texans get higher strain on the ERCOT grid, costly new transmission lines, and heavy water use for cooling in a drought-prone state. These facilities create load, not lasting jobs.
