Fairview's indomitable 'Miss Jewel'

Miss Jewel Westerman was born in the Fairview community in western Wilson County in October 1896. She graduated from Baylor University. She was a schoolteacher, a librarian, a historian, a Christian. She had a master’s degree at a time when it was rare for anyone, especially a woman. She was fluent in Spanish. Miss Jewel was a member of First Baptist Church in Floresville and financially supported several missionaries and missions; for example, Lottie Moon and Teen Challenge.
