DPS confirms name of teen in fatal Aug. 2 crash

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol has confirmed the name of the teen killed in an Aug. 2 crash in La Vernia. Ava Wetzel, 16, was the driver and sole occupant of a 2015 Lexus RX350 traveling northbound on U.S. 87 that, for reasons unknown, left the highway, rolled, and crashed into the “Welcome to La Vernia” sign at U.S. 87 and Chihuahua Street just before 4 a.m. that Sunday morning.
