Thomasville’s Charlie Dixon was recognized by the Dravitan Civic Club during Black History Month for his dedication to the Thomasville Volunteer Fire Department. Dixon became a volunteer fireman in March 1992. In 2008 and 2012, he was appointed by Gov. Bob Riley to the Alabama Firefighters Annuity and Benefit Board. In 2009, the Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments presented him a lifetime membership. In 2025, the Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments named him Firefighter of the Year statewide.
