What's up, everybody? Welcome back to another episode of the Faithful Agent podcast. We're going to have a great conversation today. I'm excited that you've joined me once again. Thank you for everybody who tunes in every single week and now twice a week with those Tuesday short episodes, the faithful fives. If those have been a blessing to you, will you let me know? Shoot me an email. Send me a message on Instagram, wherever you can find me. I'd love to know if those are a blessing to you, because if not, I'll stop doing them. If they are, maybe I'll do a little bit more. but I want to serve this Christian agent community. So I hope that's been of service to you. As always, check out the school in the link in the show notes where we teach agents how to sell three to four homes a month by relationships for Christian agents. hope that you will join me there as well. But once again, an amazing guest for you guys today. I think we're going to learn a lot about the Lord's faithfulness through her story. But before I introduce her, let me give you this Christian dad joke as always. For those that have been listening, I don't know if I was supposed to say, but my wife doesn't listen to the show, uh, Gisela. So I don't know, uh, whether she's heard this or not. But by the time you hear this audience, we might've had our fifth baby or we're about to have our fifth baby. So we would cover your prayers. So I thought I would do a kid joke. uh They say love is patient and love is kind, but I don't know if that's true because my three year old says he loves me. That's fantastic. ah That's cute. That's kind of funny. Yeah. So I don't know. I should have made it more personal and said my eight, six, four and two year old say, well, my two year old doesn't do anything. Actually. What's funny is right before we got on. I mean, you join me, right? I had a bite in my mouth. Apologize. Eating my lunch. uh My four year old had brought me my lunch and a sandwich and a peach and my two year old followed her. and I stand up and I go grab something and I turn around and my two year old just eating the peach. I'm like, hey baby, can you put that back? She puts it back on my plate. And then I turn back around and they leave and they go downstairs and I turn around and it's totally gone. So my two year old Zoe is enjoying daddy's peach. that's it. What a terrible story to start the show. You're like, why am I here? That's how most guests feel. And you're in a good spot. So, Gisela. mother. Thank you. You sell it Sanchez. You are a top agent You sold 46 transactions last year as a solo agent was amazing. You're in your 20th year of real estate, which is awesome You host the women who win in real estate podcast and along with your husband. You're an investor a flipper and a developer Thank you so much for being on the show. Say hello and give us yeah Tell us a little about you and really I want to start as awesome. Love the energy. I really want to start Let's go back 19 20 years ago Okay. at the very beginning of this journey. What even got you into real estate and what kind of unpack it from there? All right, so I went to school for broadcast journalism and I loved it. I had my own radio show. was also going to school to become a news journalist. And while I was there on campus, I was also working and they had budget cuts. So I had to immediately get a job and I worked at an escrow company. Long story short, I said, If that person could sell real estate, I know I can do a better job. And I want to do it like her because she's classy and she knows what she's doing. So I had two different examples of what real estate could look like. And so obviously I chose the higher end and got my license. Didn't turn back. I didn't finish my degree in broadcast journalism. And I'm okay with that. Because this is exactly what God you know, had for me. I was not a Christian then. I was living in darkness. It was all about fun, party, eventually after, I want to say, so I've been a believer for the past 15 years. So five years selling real estate and, you know, going to happy hours, you know, losing myself, selling properties, and then I got Rookie the Year my first year too, but selling properties and then not realizing like where did all that money go? Like I lost it. Like I don't even see it. And it's so different than what today looks like where, you know, I am a believer. I am obedient with what the Lord's calling me to do. And I see his faithfulness, you know, I see, I even see money in my account and I'm able to invest it. Like it's so different. And Yeah, just night and day, you know, it's different when you actually live and you're walking with the Lord. So what did that look like? Cause I do think that's interesting. You know, one of my mentors was a super successful, now he was in the engineering space, but for 10 years as he was building his business, wasn't a believer, then became a believer. And he, you know, you just said he was like night and day. mean, massive shift difference, not overnight, right? We're a work in progress. The Lord is sanctifying us. But what was that like, right? What the juxtaposition even of five years in the industry. Right, because I talk a lot about we can either follow the world's way, which there's a lot of temptation there, and we often fall into that, right? Or we can follow the Lord's way, and those do tend to look pretty different. So juxtapose that for us. Five years in the industry without Christ and 15 years with Jesus. How have those looked differently? Okay, well, obviously the five years without Christ, I was lost. I was choosing nightclubs and going to my open houses hungover. You know, just total, like I look at it now, I'm like, wow, how did I even survive? Like, how did I even survive? Like God, how did I even make it home? You know, like, it's just crazy. And then, was standard right i mean in the industry that you know i don't want to paint that as a as a broad brush but like i would i would think that's not that uncommon right i think uh... really common. And that's why the Lord's put the whole podcast, Become the Women that God Has Designed You to Be, like Women Who Win in Real Estate. Podcast is so big on my heart because it's like, I wanna help these women who really think I wanna win in real estate that I have to go dress like this, you know, like, who cheat, for instance. Absolutely. And they think that they have to go to happy hours or whatever the case is. So I'm speaking to that one girl who I once was, I was never a hoochie girl. I was never like that, but I had friends that were, you know? And so ah my heart really breaks for them because it's like, I don't want you to be lost. I don't want you to go choose things that are only going to mess you up and your legacy and your kids. then, you know, like, then you're gonna think you're never gonna get married and you're never gonna have what God actually has for you, his promises. But to answer your question, after I became a Christian, the first, the crazy part is just because you become a Christian doesn't mean that everything is simple and easy and God's blessing is gonna just open up the floodgates and you're gonna get all these listings. It doesn't work that way. We were so humbled. We were so humbled. Like when we, when I, my husband and I, who was, who is also a Christian, you know, we met after I also became a Christian and he was already walking with the Lord. But our first three years of marriage were like the hardest. I think God really wanted me and him to realize like, this is what it means to be like, to rely on me, to not have any money, to... to live on your daily bread and to be like, God, like how are we gonna make our monthly rent payment? Like where are gonna get our food? You mean we have to go rely on WIC and free government cheese and free food and you know, like how humbling is that to go? I remember going to the grocery store and trying to pay and they're like, ma'am, that's not what you, you can't buy that with this, this type of card or whatever the case is. I'm like, my gosh, how embarrassing. And then I remember, another time where I was at a church function. They were giving away free clothes and I saw all these girls digging in the baskets. You know, they were just in there trying to get the cutest stuff ever. And I was picking up some stuff and I looked at them and I said, my gosh, I feel so sorry for them. Here they are shopping at the church, this and this and that. And then the Holy Spirit said to me, what do you think you're doing? And I was so humbled because I still did not have a clear reality that You know, like, look where you're at. Like, you're really relying on me. Yeah, this is you too. And so I'm so glad that we went through these three years of really humbling times where my husband was like, oobering and uh I would sell a house and breastfeed the other and the other one was in the stroller. You know, it was hard. But today is a different story. Today we're talking. I mean, it's amazing. okay, so in those five years, you got rookie of the year, right? Were things going amazingly well, and then you become a believer in the shift, right? Happens, obviously, in your heart, in your life, but in your business? Like, is that, were you doing really well for those five years, and then all of a sudden, the change happens? Is that really what happened? Well, no, I think the first year, two years, I was doing pretty well. The first two years, I think I was doing pretty well in my business. And the market was, it was falling apart. Everyone was leaving real estate. I was the new agent. I was knocking on doors. I was hustling it. And I like to hustle. But then I started to lose myself and the market got really hard. Like it was just a really difficult market. So I had to get other jobs and at the same time, sell real estate. you know, what happens when you don't have Jesus in your life and life is hard, you're going to go to whatever sin it is that's calling you. You know, and so that's pretty much what I did. I was just fun games for me. Let's have fun with all my girlfriends and... Hmm. Yeah. And this is that, you know, so 20 years ago, so this is 08 09 as you're coming out of those last or those first five years, right? So you're in that weird season of real estate anyways. Uh, and so, you know, I think it's interesting and we talk about this a lot on the show, right? Is you do have a ton of pressure in general, right? I don't i don't know other industries i want to say that ours is harder than others but it does feel like our industry is so driven by vanity that you see a lot of exactly what you're talking about if you don't even if we have an anchor in christ it's easy to pursue what the world in the industry show is a car shiny all the stuff is right you get to go out and but you said you go to the networking events you can go to the agent happy hours you all can go to realtor prom and drink and get drunk together afterwards even though you're fifty and you know you should have maturity there you can do all those things and sell a bunch of homes and make a ton of money in you know you're in this place where you could really uh... live up all of those simple desires because you can make a ton of money in this industry you do get to talk by yourself now it's i'm on social media and i do all the same whatever it is writing so it's there's this shiny extremely shiny opportunity that exists that even rooted in Christ is difficult to keep our eyes fixed there, right? So it makes sense to me to say without Christ for you to just go all in, oh I don't know what else you do, right? And I think it's reminder even for us, and we're gonna shift to like now that your post-Christ life or current Christ life, right? Which is amazing. it reminds me that when we're working with other agents on the other side, and they may or may not know Jesus, right, as we get to know these people. It's not an activity issue for them. It's a heart issue, right? What do they need to hear? They need to hear the gospel first and foremost to recognize that everything that they think is worth pursuing and living for will fall short at the end. And so, agent, faithful agent, if we're out there, we are first and foremost, our mission is gospel. Our method is through the real estate industry. So let us be reminded of that, right? So, okay. So five years, become a believer. Next three years, incredibly difficult, right? Now you start to come out of that, those three years. So we're in what, 2012, 2013, maybe timeframe at this point, because first five years, you're up to 2010, whatever it is. You start to come out of that, right? You talk about how... valuable those first three years were in the humbling process. So as you start to come out of that, right, what does that look like for you? Just in what does life look like for you guys? And then even what do you feel like you were learning in your spiritual walking journey? Because you're a baby Christian still at this point, right? You're three years in to your faith. So yeah, kind of talk me through what does that look like as you start to come out? Yeah, sure. So when I became a Christian in 2010, so that would be like 15 years ago, right? I kind of went all in, just I just went all in and I didn't have any Christian friends. All my friends were at Sunday Funday, so I had to choose church and sometimes I would choose both. But eventually, one of my clients invited me to their Bible study. I just went every Wednesday, I loved it. And it was just me and Jesus for a whole year. And for those of you that are watching and are not married and you're saying, I really want to find my mate, this is what I did. I remember I was sitting on my bed and I said, Lord God, please bring me a man who loves you more than I do so he could grab me by the hand and show me who you are. someone who's funny but doesn't talk too much, someone who likes to cook because I don't want to cook all the time but I do like to cook. I just want to have some help in the kitchen and someone who's an entrepreneur so we can travel the world and do your works together and I want him to understand real estate. And it was as if God just and he introduced me to my husband Pete a month later and then we hit it off. But it was It was awesome, it was cool, it was awesome. we had some little rocky points here and there, but I really truly believe that God allows us to have rocky points in our life to sharpen us. If not, everything would be so smooth, everything would be, you would not learn anything. If everything was so simple, you would never learn anything. So it's important for us to realize that through trials, these are the times where you have to run. So just like I was sharing with you earlier, Garrett, like when we were going through this humbling stage in our life and we basically got uh kicked out of our house because they were going to sell it, which they never did. They just wanted to increase the rent. We went and we moved to Mexico out of all places and I was still selling real estate in San Diego and my husband was like, well, let's go ahead and move to Rosarito. What do you think? And I'm like, well, I don't know. And I really know that it was God who was guiding us through this. And this is, you know, this is where you also need to, once you're married, you really need to, um it's really about communication with your spouse, you know, like and communication with God. And so I remember I was like, yeah, let's go ahead. We'll move. This is my husband Pete. I'm on a, there you go. This is Garrett, the faithful agent. Speaking about communication, I made the breakfast. I did your laundry. I got to that in there. trophy. So that's my, my, my. my husband, my handsome husband. But, you know, it's not meant to be easy. Christianity is not gonna be easy, but we have to run that race. And eventually, after getting poked and you fall down so many times and you get your heart broken from friends that you think that are your business partners and you see their true colors, like, it's okay. Because if it happened to Jesus, what makes us think it's not gonna happen to us? right. Such a good point. And I think it's, you know, we as Christians, have, I think, both an unfair advantage and a quote unquote disadvantage, right? There's no disadvantage in Christ, but from a worldly perspective, so let me explain. So I think our unfair advantage, right, is we have the sovereign God who is in control of all things and has promised to provide exactly what it is that we need. And so I don't have to worry so much about the outcome. worry about what am I doing each day that brings honor and glory to the Father. He's going to bring, you know, whatever the amount is, I'm looking at my scoreboard, the agents that listen know what I'm talking about, but whatever the amount is that I'm supposed to earn this year, right, from a profit perspective to the cent, the Lord is going to bring in and has already ordained exactly what that's going to be. And it's out of love and desire to provide for my family because that's who He is. He's a good and loving God. That's our unfair advantage, right? We can just have total faith and trust in that. Not that we do most times, but we can. Our dis-quote-unquote advantage, right? Again, in Christ there is no disadvantage, but our disadvantage from a worldly perspective is we cannot, number one, operate like the world does. There are things that they could do that we should never do, right? As believers, as someone who's seeking to honor the Lord. In my opinion, there are people, and you made mention of this, there are people we should not be in business with, despite how effective or good if they are at this work or whatever the industry is we should be in business with those people are saying crinthians is clear to not be unequally yoked and so we have to be careful there we don't get our pick of the litter uh... we have a very specific intentionality when we talk about who we're gonna partner with and then in my opinion they should be a believer in so right the pool is smaller and as my business coach often said it's harder but better and i think that's totally the scenario when it comes to building a business as a believer right being a partnership with believers as well so you obviously had that experience these people that you thought you could rely on you know what happened is it that they turned out they just stepped in the back is it that they just became unreliable like what fell apart there was it that you guys were unequally yoked? Like what is that experience? What was that experience? Well, with that particular experience, was uh a team. It was a team that I raised from basically new agents not knowing anything. And so what do you do when you have a team? You love on them. I would give them Kate Spade purses for you're making your, you earned a trip, let's go to the spa. I would shower them with love. And with. And I knew that a couple of them had, were backbiting each other because they would come to me and tell me and I'd be like, no, no, no, let's, let's just not do that. And I would talk to them and I would try to hash it out and then I would get to work and, and then God just gave me, you know, the wisdom and I was like, what's going on there? Someone's talking about me. And so I, you know, long story short, um, I go to one of our conferences with our company, I come back all excited to share with them what's going on, what's the new things that's going on with our brokerage, and it just blew up. Something was brewing with them and it was as if they got the rug underneath my feet, shook it in front of my face, threw it at me, and they left. And I was just like, what the heck? But the crazy thing is, Garrett, is that I actually talked and I prayed to the Lord two days before that because I knew something was off, you know, and I said, God, I want you to clean house. I want you to clean house in my office and whoever needs to not be there, remove them and just clean house. Well, he sure cleaned house because everybody left. And it was really hard. I really was brokenhearted because these are people that I called my sisters in Christ. But at the same time, other friends of mine from San Diego who are not in the area but got to meet some of them said, I kind of knew something was off. And I'm like, well, why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you share that? Well, because they didn't want to get in the mix of it. But that's pretty much what happened. Instead of, here's another key thing for all of you that something like this might happen to. Instead of going out to the world and letting out your garbage and telling everybody what happened or even, know, this is what they did to me. I went straight to God and I'm like, Lord, I can't believe it. And I was crying. I just remember I was just crying. The first thing I did is just opened up the book, the Bible, and it was in the book of Psalms. And I can't remember, I need to find out which one it was. But he basically told me that they were planting something against me, but they will see, basically they will be like my foot stools or something like that. they would basically, God's not gonna bless them, just straight up. Like they're not gonna receive God's blessing. He's gonna elevate me in front of them. And sure enough. my business, not that because of that has happened, but now I'm not putting my energy into people that no longer were working regardless. They were working very little, but now I get to focus all my energy on my business, my husband's business, and three other agents that need my help instead of trying to serve nine or 10 people that weren't doing anything. It is, it's first of all, it's one of the stories where it's like, be careful what you pray for, right? Lord clean house. He's like, okay. Uh, and then he did. Yeah. And, also, uh, amazing. had something not, not to that extent, but similar. I'll share in a sec, but, that just happened, but also amazing because, you know, you have your friends that come up to you later and they're like, yeah, we weren't sure that they were the right fit, whatever. And you know, we're, we're entrepreneurs. We're optimistic about everything. So it's hard for us to see what's real sometimes, but. The Lord knew this whole time, obviously. And so he removed them on your behalf, right? Out of love uh for his daughter, which is you in this scenario. And yet, I also love that story because in yet the human experience is yeah, but you were heartbroken, right? The Lord did exactly what he needed to do and what you had asked of him. And yet it was still hard. Right. And so, uh, I just mentioned it, but my coach said it's better, harder. And those are real things, right? I do think that we as believers can often think, and you made mention of this earlier, but we can often think, well, life with the Lord is just going to be better all the time, and it's going to be happy and joyful, and everything's going to go right. And, you know, honestly, in the real estate world, I often see the lie that, I'm a Christian, so people should just give me business, right? Like, business should just come to me, and it's— Well, no, you're less than excellent. That's your first job is to pursue honoring the Lord by being excellent. The work that he's given you, right? Like that's your first command and requirement there. And also know that it is going to be better. But like you said, but it's probably going to be harder. And, know, you think of being refined in the fire when things get burned off. That doesn't feel good. That actually hurts. Right. But it is. Four-hour good, that's the promise, right? It's four-hour good in his glory. It doesn't mean it's going to be quote, quote, unquote, or feel good. It's four-hour good. And so I love that story as a reminder. We recently, my business partner and I, Dave, we had got to a point where we had brought on, we had just merged our teams and we'd brought on four new agents and we got to the point like, and it was only, I don't know, a couple months in and we just said, I don't know if this is right. I think we kind of put our feet. too far in front of us and we want to do X, Y, and Z instead. And now I've got a book coming out, like there's too many things we need to focus on and we're not going to able to serve them well. so Lord, but show us if that's what you want for us. so amazingly, two of them that week came to us and like, Hey, we think we need to go out on our own. You're like, okay, praise God. that. Right. And then, and then the other one was totally fine. And then the fourth one that we were going to keep around said, Hey, I think I should, should go. And that's the one that hurt, right? Cause you're like, no, no, no, no, that's not the plan. You know, the plan is this. And then the Lord had a different idea. And amazingly, so in one week, all four, right, have left at that point. And then amazingly, the following week, my business partner ruptures his Achilles and he's out for weeks with the surgery and we're about to have a baby. And so the Lord is just, you know, a reminder of, Hey, I've got you this whole time. Right. I knew what was going on. I know what's coming. I know what's been, I know what's in your heart, I know what you need, all of these things. And for me as a human, me, Garrett, as a human to think that I could orchestrate anything better with the knowledge of literally this moment and nothing beyond it uh is foolish. And yet I operate my life, my business that way sometimes too, right? So again, I love your story because it is the reminder of the Lord does answer prayers. Number one. Number two, he knows what's best for us. And number three, it still could be hard. uh And that's okay, right? And that is uh why we need one another as believers in this industry. That's why we need to be in community with one another, right? You just got off and I you talk about this and then share a little bit about the podcast too. But uh you got on, you said, hey, we just finished up a Bible study that you do on Zoom, right? With women. uh... and so talk about that here briefly right in the power of just that community and then share a little bit about the podcast before we wrap Okay. Yeah. So every Tuesday we meet up with women in our industry from real estate agents and lenders. And right now we're going over the book, Become the Woman God Wants Me to Be. I was looking for it. Here it is. Super good book. Go on Amazon. You can buy it ladies. uh But we meet every Tuesday Pacific Standard Time at 9 a.m. and it's just for one hour. And it's cool because like There's new believers, it's an outreach. And so that's been lovely, women from different places. They're all from different companies. Yeah, they're all from different companies. So it's not just our brokerage. um And then I also have my podcast where it's women who win in real estate. And that's something that the Lord has put on my heart to to do. And so I've been doing that. I haven't been as faithful as I was at the very beginning. And finally, I'm like, okay, God, like, because he keeps putting the pressure, not like pressure, but hey, you got to. Yeah. And it's so funny, because like the moment that I'm like, is anyone listening to me? I'll get an email, a message, a phone call even. Hi, I'm from New York. And you know, I'm a real estate agent. And I just want to tell you you're Podcast is everything I needed to hear. And so uh on that podcast, I talk about becoming the woman that God wants you to be in your home and in your real estate business. So I share like what's working for me in my business. So right now we're a listing machine. God's giving us a lot of listings. And so I'll share some success. I'll share testimonies on. uh like examples of what I had to do and how God showed up. And so, you know, it's all Holy Spirit led and I'll go back and I'll listen to it. And I'm like, dang, that's good. Like the Holy Spirit spoke to me, again, just through that. It's not even that I'm doing anything crazy, but God is using that platform. And just like how he's using your platform, you know. yeah. Praise God, that's cool. I mean, I'm always encouraged by meeting people like you and knowing that the Lord is not uh stagnant other than my little area of Virginia, right? He's been working and moving for so long through so many people and specifically in our industry that I genuinely believe we are in this moment of ground swelling, of... uh the agents coming to know jesus right of agents coming out of the shell of saying i was told i couldn't talk about politics in religion and that's not cool so i'm gonna talk about religion all the time right you know i'm gonna be honest you know interestingly i had a i was on a podcast other day in before i got on one of the the pre-show notes whatever was hey we know you're christian agent right you do these things for a while but if you could like leave that aside and just show up in michael's talk tactics whatever And I was like, I can't, it's not a thing, right? It's not a backpack. It's not a thing that I wear. this is who I am. And I think the more and more people like you are out there saying, and it's hard, cause you want to say, I'd love for 500,000 agents to listen to this, but whoever is listening, the way the Lord can use that to impact them. And maybe someone in the audience will go do something in their local market that will impact 10, who will impact 10. Right. And slowly but surely we see the groundswelling of the believers to stand up in this industry and say, this is who we are. We're not afraid of that, right? We're going to plan a flag for Jesus. We're going to be honest about who we are. And you're welcome to come here. What, what the Lord is doing in our lives. We'd love for you to learn more about who he is. And then I think ultimately, like, I love the concept of your podcast, which agents will be in the show notes, but I love the concept, right. I'm also sharing. wins and what's going well and tactics and strategies, because I firmly believe the Christian agent should be the most successful agent in each office solely because we're driven not by obsession and rankings and vanity, but we're driven by a pursuit of excellence to the glory of the Father alone. And so that people will come and say, hey, what did you do different? And you can say, let me tell you what Jesus says. Right. I'd love to tell you about Him. And I just, I see it. And I think that is coming and so christian agent faithful agent anyone who's part of any network like that be encouraged right keep pursuing keep continuing to to be bold so anyways if they want to connect with you and will have the show in the show notes the podcast a link if you have it to your bible study call but if they want to connect with you individually how would they go about doing that You could find me always on Facebook as old school that might sound to some people. And the more that you just are obedient in the smallest little things, the more you're gonna see him show up and give you even more as he opens up and he stretches you more. So that's been my experience with him and it's been sweet. Awesome. Kiselo Sanchez, thank you so much for being on the show. Faithful Agents, we love you. I hope that this episode was a blessing.
