Hey, how's it going? What's up, fool? Not much. Just chilling, dude. It's been a minute. It's been a minute. It's been luck over a month, I think. It's been over a month.
SPEAKER_02It's been kind of a crazy month, but it has. We're back.

SPEAKER_02And if you're first joining us, I'm Jason. I'm Chris. And this is uh Nevada. Kinda.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. Yeah, um quite a bit, a lot of a lot of busy work. A lot of lot a lot of a lot of busy work.
SPEAKER_02It's been busy. Summer's been, you know, ramping up with a bunch of stuff going on at the GSR and also life, you know.
SPEAKER_01Life, yeah. Um yeah, um it was kinda kinda not so crazy as far as like piercing-wise for me, but more of like running around and doing shit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02There was a lot of stuff going on, it seemed like.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um yeah, getting back from UDC. I was it was kind of like dead for me. Yeah. And then like just this past like three weeks have finally started picking up good back for me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it's getting a little busier. Um speaking of which, you just got back from uh festival yourself.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I went to warp tour with my wife. It was uh it was a blast. Dude, I yeah, I I've never felt so young and so old at the same time. Uh other than when I'm on my skateboard. Sick. Who'd you go watch? Fuck, dude. A lot of people, but the the must-sees were hot mulligan on Saturday, and on Sunday it was Bayside.
SPEAKER_01Oh shit. Yeah, so how busy were both of those?
SPEAKER_02It was crazy. It was pretty good. It was pretty busy. Yeah, um, hot mulligan was earlier in the day. Actually, no, they were probably about the same time of the day. So like midday? Two o'clock, yeah. Okay, it's pretty hot. It was yeah, it was really hot.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you are because you were down there in Santa Cruz.
SPEAKER_02Or no, uh, we were in Long Beach, yeah, and it was actually so it was 93 degrees, 94, yeah, and the most humidity they've had in like forever. And it was hot, dude. It was really hot. And to be surrounded by 70,000 people, yeah, um, and like them there my wife, my wife put it this way to me. I I was like, oh my god, I'm so covered in sweat.
SPEAKER_03This is fucking disgusting.
SPEAKER_02She's like, I've never been covered in so many other people's sweat.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, dude. That's gross.

SPEAKER_01Like, you know, there's a bunch of people running around with their shirts off, and that's I'm glad I'm going in fucking uh November then. Yeah. Because I'll be down there at the same venue. Yeah. It was hot, dude. Yeah, I how late did you guys stay?
SPEAKER_02Till like 9 30, 9 10. 9 20. Because it it ends at 10.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, nice, huh?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's crazy. Yeah. I think I think the latest we'll be able to stay out there is probably two.
SPEAKER_02Two?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.

SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, that's that that's I think they have sound audience though.
SPEAKER_02They have two pretty okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Huh? Yeah, you could get away with that because it's a venue and they get a permit.
SPEAKER_02I wonder, maybe it went later. I don't know. We left, we we would watch like the last band for like a couple songs and just walk away. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Did you guys stay pretty close?
SPEAKER_02Uh for some of the bands, yeah, dude. Kenny Hoopla.
SPEAKER_01I mean, like, did you stay close to the venue? Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02We were literally like a seven-minute drive. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01That's that's that's what we're doing. Yeah. Uh, because we got a B. Yeah, okay. And we're gonna be like, I think it says like 10 minutes away.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh by car.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Uh, I think we might Uber there though, yeah, for two days.
SPEAKER_02It's expensive. Yeah. I I mean parking for us was $20 a day. Oh, yeah. Well, there's free parking for us. Okay, that's cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so bring a car, bro. So what what what they do is that you you'll drive. Well, dude, I rent I rented a Range Rover. I don't want to fucking because they get cars get broken into at those kind of festivals, especially Southern California. Right. So uh I'd rather leave it at the B. So um, but what you can do is you could go, uh they have free, like four or five free parking places you could go to, and each of those had a shuttle to the the front. That's cool. Yeah. We just walked.
SPEAKER_02I mean it was like I think it was like maybe a 10-15 minute walk from where we parked. Okay. It was sketchy where we parked. Uh-huh. We saw some shit. We were walking back on the last, I think it was the last night. And or it might have been the first night, it doesn't matter. Anyway, um, we're walking back to the car and we're in a group of like maybe six people, and we're walking up to this stoplight, and all of a sudden, this guy almost gets hit in the crosswalk because somebody was trying to make a left-hand turn, but the light was green for the walker, right? Or the pedestrian. Yeah. So the pedestrian throws his hands up, the guy starts fucking going crazy in the car, yelling, screaming, but it sounded I remember vividly that there was yelling already before that happened. So there was yelling coming from that car. Okay. And so they almost hit that person. So I think it elevated the situation just fucking so much that like now the passenger is like, you fucking idiot, scream, but at the driver, yeah, not at the person in the crosswalk. So it's very confusing. Yeah. And the guy gets out of the passenger seat. I it looks like he's yelling at the guy in the crosswalk, which is what we all assume, and he's banging on the trunk. So open the fucking trunk, open the trunk. In California, that's where you keep your gun. Yeah. Right? So I'm like, oh shit, honey, like we're walking this way. So we start walking the opposite direction, and like the guy never opens the trunk and just fucking shoots out, like just drives off as fast as possible.
SPEAKER_01You leave the guy?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And so that guy walks the opposite direction, like no shoes. Oh wow. I think it was a lover's quarrel. Oh. It might have been, you know, two down low homies. Yeah. Looked like. I don't know. Were they just were they at the beach or something?
SPEAKER_01Who's walking around without shoes?
SPEAKER_02Yelling. Or well, it might have been in the maybe they had their chunklas? Their yeah, their chunkles in the front seat, and they just like jumped out real quick to get the fucking, you know, brick or the gun or whatever the fuck they were gonna use. But yeah, and then they just sped off, and we watched that person that got out of the car just continue to walk the opposite direction of the way the car went. Oh, okay. Yeah, it was interesting. And didn't even pay any mind to the person in the crosswalk. Huh. And that guy was just a bystander, huh? Yeah, I think that guy just got kind of thrown into this situation. Like eating popcorn. Yeah, I was like, honey, what the fuck just happened? She's like, I have no idea. Yeah, we're very confused.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, um yeah, that's the thing. So, and I think the the the main thing I was worried about is it that being like it's I in my head, I'm thinking this this vestibule's gonna be as big as EDC. But it's not, it's probably gonna be like half that, maybe even a quarter of it.
SPEAKER_02It's about 65,000, I think, or 70 that they allow in there. Yeah, yeah, not even a quarter. Yeah, that's I think the they have a max. Yeah. And it was like s I think I want to say I saw it was 70.
SPEAKER_01Oh, dude. Yeah, I think EDC this year was well over half a million people. Yeah, that's fucking crazy. I think it was like 700.
SPEAKER_02That's insane. But that's over the course of the like that's that's total intent attendance, right? That's not in the in the speedway at once.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm pretty sure at once. Holy. There's like a plateau of people there and everybody's there. And then they kind of just kinda, and then it dispersed. Because I mean it it it it's because people come at all at all times, you know? Yeah, yeah. Um it's weird because we'll be fucking leaving and people will be walking in. Like, and it's like, dude, it's it's like fucking three in the morning. What are you doing? Like, you got an hour left to go to ED's. Like, why weren't you even here? Like doing drugs. Yeah, like you're all fucked up doing stuff. Well, no, like why would you spend that much money? Because even buying a day pass is fucking like I think $300. Yeah. So that's crazy. Yeah. That's awesome. People just got money above, man. I guess so. Or they have the hookup or something.
SPEAKER_02Or yeah, they or that yeah, they work for the label, or who knows?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, that's because my cousin, she she didn't work the event this year, but the year before she did. So she was like a bartender. Yeah. And then this year she was like in the fucking backstage and shit, dude. I was like, oh shit, that's cool. That's sick, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, I uh I like doing the festivals and stuff.
SPEAKER_01It's a long day, dude. Oh no, it's like you don't you don't go to like enjoy your favorite band at all.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01This isn't like a concert. Festivals are such a different beast.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I and I see that. It's nice to it's nice to sprinkle in new acts, though. Like people that you wouldn't normally see. Like, I didn't realize how much I liked Ivy Coast or Ivy Pacific. Uh-huh. Those guys are so good. Yeah. The band is awesome. And like, you know, you like walk up and you're like, wow, these guys are great, and then you look at the the picture behind them, and you're like, oh, those guys pop up on my playlist all the time. I do actually really like these guys. You know, and it's like it's kind of cool to do that and like reintroduce bands and find new ones. And um there's that band, um fuck, what was it called? Breathe is it breathed Carolina? Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Dude, I didn't realize I liked that kind of music so much, and it was actually really fun. Um it made me want to go to a rave.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just depending on what kind of rave it is. Because like, yeah, raves catch all term, but like I guess depending on what DJs are there. Yeah, you know? Because I mean you could have a fucking uh base house, tech house, you could have a techno DJ there. Yeah, like you know, it all it all varies. Yeah, I don't know what I would want to go watch. Yeah, it depends. Um all the stuff that I do is typically house. Yeah, like house, base house. I do a little tech house here and there.
SPEAKER_02The stuff you put on when you're piercing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's all kind of like tech and bass house. Tech bass house? Yeah, hell yeah. They kind of differ from the two, but sometimes a little hardcore gets slapped in there. Yeah. That one is drum and bass. That one is like, oh my god. I like drum and bass. Yeah, I like that shit. Drum and bass is my shit, dude.
SPEAKER_02See, that's uh because they have like breakdowns and shit, right? Yeah, yeah. See, yeah, I'm into that. If it's got a breakdown, I like it. Yeah, dude. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I like drum and bass. I like hard style. I like it all. I just I'm not the biggest fan of um dubstep. Dubstep, yeah. It's it's fine and dandy, but like I don't I'll go to the base pod in EVC. I'll go to base pod for like maybe one show. Yeah. One one one set.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I don't I don't know, I'm not a big fan. Yeah. I remember like getting into Skrillex. I think we've talked about this before, but yeah, I like I liked it. It's a lot like what I would imagine two robots getting it on, sounds like.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, and see that's the thing when Skrillex was coming out and shit, that was like the beginning of dubstep. Right. You know, that was something new and like something we've never heard before. Right. Uh but honestly, it kind of just divided into like melodic dubstep and like you know, stuff like that. It's it's like pop step now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's they're bringing in Bieber and shit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I like I said, I'll listen, but I'm not like I don't DJ it. You're gonna search it out. Yeah, I don't yeah, if it's on, it's on.
SPEAKER_02I just you know you're not gonna change it, but you're not gonna change it to it.
SPEAKER_01There is actually one artist right now, crank that. Crank that? Yeah, he's cool. I like him. Is that kind of like hardwell, right? Hardwell, no, hardwell's more uh slow and like melodic. Like it's that's that's like main stage stuff. Okay. Hardwell. Um crank that's like more heavy, uh like dirty grinds, the grinders, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Subtronic, uh what's what's another kind of bassy. I bet there's so many of them. Like you know Riz? Or Raz or whatever the fuck her name was. She had those like little circles glasses. Riz? Yeah. She's sick. So she's melodic dub, I think. Okay. Yeah, from what I remember. She's got some pretty heavy breakdowns, dude.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I remember I I've put her on because I was about to do a I've done a portrait of her. Oh, okay. And which, mind you, was awfully hard to do all those lights. Oh, I bet the red dude. Luckily, it was black and gray, so I was able to just do like a white with like a little bit of like a halo around it, like because it it worked, but I don't know. Her hands were the best part of the whole tattoo because they were like kind of crossed on her knee. Oh, it's like a pretty famous picture of her. I think it was from like Alt Press magazine or like some sort of magazine. Uh there's a magazine with her on it right there. Yeah. But yeah, she just like she's just sitting there, she's got her eyes blown, it was fucking sick. But I remember I like kind of deep dove into her because I was doing that portrait, and uh her music's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_01It's different. She's uh she's out of the scene right now. Yeah, uh, she said she was gonna go on a hiatus. Uh it's just a festival life, you know. Going to to to show to show to show to show. It gets, you know, I guess daunting. Yeah, being a road dog like that, yeah. I couldn't do that. Yeah. Um, but yeah, I'm actually uh excited, like like you were saying about warp tour, like seeing some new shit. Uh Dream State that we're going to down there in uh Long Beach. That's a lot of that. I don't know any of the artists really. Like I know the big guys, like uh above and beyond. Paul Van Dyck, uh who else? Affected Mushrooms going. Who else? Oh, Corsten Ferry or Ferry Corsten. Those are like four people, yeah, like off the bat. Like, oh yeah. Interesting. And then there might be a few people that I like I've heard in passing, but like, yeah, I'm going in kind of blind. Oh yeah. So which is cool, yeah. Well, and it's all it's all trance. Yeah. So that's the genre of uh uh Dream State. Oh yeah. You know, there's no other well, they'll sneak in genres, but yeah, it's primarily a trance uh festival.

SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's kind of how I was with Warp Tour. Like I knew there was like bands they were like that gonna be there. Like Alex would be like, oh, so and so good because you're going. But like I didn't like prep for it. You know, it was like I and I didn't really care who I was gonna see or who I didn't see, or like you know, other than like obviously Hop Mulligan and Basside, but those were like because I haven't seen Basside since early 2000s. Yeah. Um actually, dude, Alexis on Fire was one of the like can't miss also. Oh yeah. Yeah, dude, those guys are incredible. Um Dallas Green is their guitarist and like melodic singer. Uh-huh. And he's like, he's one of my heroes, dude. He's so incredible. Nice. But yeah, it's it's fun to go in there and just kind of like wing it. I think. I think that's better. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01What was better? This one or the one in Vegas.
SPEAKER_02I'd say Warp Tour was better than when we were young. Yeah, 100%.
SPEAKER_01What's so when we were young, that was more kinda emo?
SPEAKER_02No, I mean there were a lot of the same bands. Yeah. I mean, yeah, there was uh uh story so far. I mean there there was dude, I can't even start going to Hawthorne Heights. Like uh I would say I would say there was probably like 20 of the same bands.

SPEAKER_02Maybe horrible, yeah. Maybe, but there was 130 total bands. Yeah. That's crazy. Yeah. So it was uh it was fun, man.
SPEAKER_01I like did uh because I know when we were young, because they are was it was this front gate too that like kind of did all the tickets and shit? I don't remember. For warp tour? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Same yeah, the little wristband with the little tab on it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, did they do this too?
SPEAKER_02Like kind of like pick your yeah, yeah, you'd be able to like look at the lineup, but like A through Z. Yeah. Yeah. But then they so Warp Tour didn't put the schedule on the phones. No shit. Yeah, all it said when you push the button for the schedule is consult the the board. So you had to walk over to the board and look at it. So we all just took pictures of it, you know? Yeah, yeah. Um chaotic. Dude, did I show you how they fucking put the people's names out? Uh-uh. Oh my god, dude. Look at this picture. Like, it is so hard to read, like, while you're like walking through a crowd and like trying to figure out your life. And they didn't have it on a website or something? No, that's fucked up. Dude, look at this fucking this is how we had to maybe because they was like that's how it used to be. Well, so the bands don't know until the the night before. Oh, that's horrible. That's yeah, okay. Dude, so if you look at it, it goes right to left.
SPEAKER_01That's just a big ass projector screen that they blew up, didn't they? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And then they just put Velcro on it.
SPEAKER_01Velcro, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, this looks exactly like my my projector screen that like I put in the project.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's like a bounce house kind of yeah. But yeah, if you look at it, the times are all like dude.
SPEAKER_01It was hard, dude. From first to last fucking opening ban, huh? Yeah. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, we missed that. Yeah I I wish I would have seen it, but honestly, like whatever. Yeah. You know, it's not even Sunny singing. Even though Sonny, I mean Sonny isn't a very good singer. Um great artist. Yeah. You know, like that's it. Like, um, and I think his voice just kind of I don't think he was gonna be able to hold on to that. No. Because some of the notes that he held and for as long as he did and stuff like that, it's it's hard. I can't even imagine what the vocal cords go through, like, for people that do it for 20, 30 years.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, dude, but then it's like there's not like like that uh their vocal coaches, like having them warming up their stuff and making sure they don't blow their shit out. Yeah, there's a lot that goes into singing that people don't know about, you know. There are like exercises they do to make sure their vocals are strong.
SPEAKER_02Right. Yeah, yeah, it's where they don't get worn out while they're doing it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and they learn how to like because a lot of people don't realize when when when when when they're singing, like people, like the the the mic and the volume does all the heavy lifting. Oh yeah. You know, they're not the singer. They're not ripping their fucking vocals apart it, even though it's like you do in a car, yeah. Yeah, exactly. No, dude, because these these guys obviously they're professional singers, so they know how to control their vocals. Yeah, they're not there, they're not like not all of them are out there fucking thrashing their yeah, and I mean that's a lot of it's just the air that passes.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's pretty easy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, and a lot of people think that it's all here in there, you know, it's it's it's coming from down here, you know. Diaphragm. Yeah, your diaphragm.
SPEAKER_02Like you can do all sorts of weird shit with air. I mean, that's all it is, it's just air passing by the vibration. Yeah, but yeah, other than that, I mean I don't I dude, I but some of those guys are incredible. Yeah, it's I don't know how they do it. Um I remember so we saw Motion City soundtrack, which is like one of my favorite bands. They were down there, and I don't know what's going on with the lead singer, but he was like on a like a walking cane, and like yeah, and he was kind of shaky and like think he might be going through some health issues. So if that's what's going on, man, I hope only the best, and I hope that he feels it's a very uh shocking it's a very interesting thing.
SPEAKER_01We're we're seeing our our favorite artist age. Yeah, you know, it's weird. We're getting to that age to where like, God, dude, what's his name? We were just talking about what's his name, uh, from uh from uh AFI. Oh, Davy Havoc?
SPEAKER_02But he's like he's like an action figure. I think Davy Havoc like has these different versions of action figures that come out. He's kind of like David Bowie in the sense that like he's stardust. Yeah, like it's weird, yeah. And now he's like got this like macho man village people look thing going on.
SPEAKER_01He has like that kind of fro with the handlebar or like the mustache, yeah. Like uh the Daredevil from Toy Story. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02What is his name? I honestly don't remember. Yeah, but the little Daredevil toy, that's what I assume. If Davy Havoc put on a helmet.
SPEAKER_01Uh he looks like he has a fucking helmet on, to be honest with you. With his hair. Um, but yeah, he went through a lot of phases. Yeah. But but you look at him and it's like, god damn, that guy's like he has a gray hair everywhere now. I mean, he's older than us, right? Yeah, oh yeah. Like what, 50s? No, forty something.

SPEAKER_01Uh I don't know. I don't feel it. No. I still feel like I'm in my 20s. I do too. Yeah. I don't I don't know. Except for when I have to do shit. Yeah. And when I'm not doing anything, it's like, yeah, but then I was like, oh fuck, we gotta go do shit.

SPEAKER_02But you know what's fun is that like I've I feel like the older I get, the more I'm enjoying like the golden oldies, dude. You know, I love that shit. Yeah. And but I I think it's also because you can find the connections in the music that we listen to.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, our goal, like to us golden oldies are to these kids.
SPEAKER_02No, my our parents. Our okay, so our parents the lowrider oldies and like all that fucking that swab shit, talking about love and fucking all that shit. Music. I love it. Real music, yeah, yeah. Yeah, the shit that makes you want to like run your hair or your fingers through your lady's hair, you know, shit like that. It's good stuff.
SPEAKER_01I mean, to be honest with you, I haven't um I haven't really kept on because like RB is has kind of been a nice, you know, uh consistency, I guess. Because like rap isn't rap is totally different now, it's changed a lot.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, and there's all these subgenres too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, um, they're it's just that's the thing. Uh that's why I like Slacker Radio too, because they have like the RB station that's like alright, cool, new like new RB. And uh I couldn't name you an artist at this moment, but I'm like, alright, cool. Like, I like some of it.
SPEAKER_02Have you ever I don't know what genre I would put this guy in. But have you ever listened to Saint John? Uh uh. He's really good. Is he? Yeah, I really like Saint John. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I don't know. It's like some sort of RMB, like I don't I don't know, man. It's hard to say like what kind of music he is. Um he's like a n an a more RMB Lenny Kravitz, I feel like. Lenny Kravitz has actually done a song with him. Yes. Okay. Um that wrote I think the roses song.

Uh I haven't tried it, but maybe try it with an old license plate first and see what happens when light shines on it and whatnot. Take a picture of it.
