A Perfect Time for Change
As the year races toward its close, many of us find ourselves navigating packed schedules, tight deadlines and the familiar end-of-year rush.
Yet even in the busiest seasons, there’s an opportunity to pause—however briefly—and consider the changes we want to carry into the future.
In this podcast episode, Bill offers a poem that invites you to reflect, re-align and begin the process of personal transformation right here in the midst of the year-end whirlwind.
A PERFECT TIME FOR CHANGE
Few may appreciate it, but this busy time of the year represents the most perfect time for change—or at least creating the foundation for personal change.
Interestingly, the genesis of meaningful personal change is discontent with the status quo.
Now that doesn’t automatically imply that you need to be seriously unhappy. Change often results from what I call a ‘constructive discontent’—a powerful inner motivation to do even better, live even better, feel even better.
Most of us, preoccupied with completing tasks and meeting obligations for the outgoing year, will ignore this and resolve to revisit the idea, with ‘fresh inspiration’ in January.
But we easily forget that once a new year gets underway, we quickly become embroiled in a new round of the same old commitments and external demands.
If you desire to bring about real, meaningful personal change in the new year, act now.
As the year starts to draw to a close, this is the perfect time to reflect, connect with your underlying discontent, clarify your thoughts, and gather the inner resolve to enhance your life.
I offer you the following poem that I wrote. I hope it encapsulates why I believe this time of the year is a ‘perfect time for change’.
As the countdown to year-end begins
we move through days that quicken—
marked by looming deadlines, obligations,
and the familiar scramble
to wrap up that which needs completing
before we take a break.
And yet, despite the rush,
beneath the noise and urgency,
there exists a quiet current—
a subtle invitation
to check in with ourselves,
to notice what the year has shaped in us,
and what it is calling us towards next.
The months just passed were filled with events:
some we celebrated,
some we endured,
some we let pass by.
All of them were teachers.
All of them were stepping stones
bringing us to this moment—
a perfect time for change.
Change is not the product of a new year
it is a product of discontent,
brought on by crowded calendars
and overflowing to-do lists.
It challenges us
to make small yet courageous choices
in the midst of all the craziness.
It’s time to gather our quiet hopes,
our long-ignored longings,
our brave intentions waiting patiently
like seeds in the palms of our hands.
To plant them with vision,
water them with commitment,
and expose them to the light
of our own unwavering belief.
Transformation need not wait for January—
it’s best started right now,
in the decision to pause, even briefly,
and listen to what our lives are whispering.
It begins in the willingness
to release what no longer serves us
and strengthen what does.
This time of year reminds us
that life is not measured only in what we finish
but in the new possibilities we choose to pursue.
It’s a time to honour how far we’ve come,
and step—with intention, grace, and purpose—
into the life we wish to have.
So let the final chapter of this year
be more than a rush to the finish.
Accept it as an invitation.
A call to embrace change
not when life quiets down,
but right now, in the fullness of it all.
A call to trust
that even small shifts create new paradigms.
A call to align your choices
with the person you want to be.
Because the perfect time for change
has never been January.
It is now.
For while the year moves swiftly
it still offers you the chance
to decide what comes next,
and create a plan to make it happen.
May you flourish and prosper in 2026
You are special.
You deserve it.
I do hope that poem resonated with you.
I appreciate that the ‘external noise’ at this time of the year can be quite overwhelming and can put paid to your best intentions.
If that’s true for you, then the solution is simple—get professional help, hire a life coach!
I think you’ll be surprised at the amazing difference it will make.
