Hello everyone. Welcome to Permission for Pleasure. I'm Cindy Sharkey, your host. This season is all about curiosity, trying new things and variety. So in this quickie episode, I'm explaining the coinal alignment technique. This is a variation on the missionary position, and perhaps something new for you to try. But first, friends, here's your gentle reminder to press the follow button where you listen to the podcast and rate the show too. Perhaps you'll find this technique interesting and you'll want to send this episode to your partner to listen to, maybe with a text that says, What do you think of this? Discuss this weekend? Have a conversation about it before you try it in the bedroom. As always, communication is a friend to good sex. Now on to the coital alignment technique, or cat, as it's sometimes referred to. The point of this variation on missionary is to get intentional with more clitoral contact. You are going to be pairing penetration with clitoral stimulation. If you are a regular listener of the podcast, perhaps you listened to the Pleasure Techniques episode or read it on the blog, then this concept will be familiar to you. But if you're new here, pairing is techniques that combine clitoral stimulation along with penetration. I will link to the episode on Pleasure Techniques and the blog that has some short video tutorials in the show notes for you to reference. So not only does this technique include pairing, it also includes another pleasure technique called rocking. These kinds of techniques can bring more mutual pleasure, as well as narrow the orgasm gap, meaning a woman will not be left out of the orgasm equation and gets the stimulation she needs to reach climax. More on the orgasm gap in an early episode called Clitoracy. Love for you to listen to that. I talked to Dr. Lori Mintz, the author of Becoming Cliterate, in that episode. I'll link it in the show notes. Here is how this technique works. The female partner lies on her back, the penetrating partner is on top, just like typical missionary. But the difference is the partner on top moves themselves up slightly so that their pubic bone aligns with hers. Don't miss that. The partner on top will be farther up than in traditional missionary. Next, rather than thrusting in and out, the partners grind against each other to create this desirable friction. So the woman's clitoris and pubic area is receiving pressure from the partner's pubic bone, as well as the penetration. And that grinding word is just what it seems, not thrusting in and out. This is slower, more deliberate pressure and contact. Some people refer to it as dry humping from the pleasure technique episodes. In the pleasure techniques, we term it rocking, a rocking motion with your pelvises, with the penetration, staying put. Make sense? Here's a few bonuses for this position. If the penetrating partner is a man, this slow grinding reduces friction to the head of the penis. This can allow them to last longer until ejaculation or orgasm, thus providing the woman more arousal time in order to reach climax. Remember, women often need a solid 20 plus minutes of arousal time in order to reach that high adequate arousal to orgasm. Second, this position is available to lots of types of bodies. It doesn't require a lot of gymnastics, so to speak, available to a lot of types of people. Research has found that this kind of positioning with the added stimulation to the clitoris creates more possibility of orgasm for women. Perhaps you've used this technique and didn't even realize it had a name or had been studied. Or maybe it's new to you. Either way, it's a good one to intentionally try a few times and see how pleasurable it is for you. Also adjust as needed for the comfort and pleasure of both partners. As I often say, maybe you try a new technique and find, great, I love it. Maybe you try it and say, meh, it's not for me. Great, either way, you learn something, you tried something new. So friends, stay curious and invite variety into your bedroom. For more education, straight to your inbox, you can also sign up for my newsletter, Good Education for Good Sex.
