The authors of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling present: Romanistan! Do you love rebels? Do you want to live in a place where outcasts shine their brightest? Welcome to Romanistan! We're your friendly neighborhood Gypsies, celebrating Romani identity and outcast culture, and practicing good diplomatic relations with other marginalized communities.
We love the rebels who are living their truth, even if it clashes with tradition. We also love tradition and honoring our roots. This podcast is for everyone who loves and supports Roma & related groups, and anyone who feels like a misfit and wants to uplift others to create a beautiful community.
We feature pioneers in culture, fashion, art, literature, music, activism, cuisine, and everything good. We adore the intersections of gender, sexuality, spirituality, ability, and identity. We cover all topics, from the difficult to the glorious. Let's sit crooked and talk straight.
Hosted by Paulina Stevens and Jezmina Von Thiele. We reclaim the slur Gypsy, but if you aren’t Romani, we prefer you don't use it. xoxo.
P.S. The Romani people are a diasporic ethnic group originally from northwest India, circa the 10th century. Now, Roma live all over the globe, and due to centuries of oppression, slavery, genocide, and other atrocities, Roma are still fighting for basic human rights. We seek to raise awareness of who Roma are, and highlight Romani resilience, creativity, & culture.

Speaker 2:We're your friendly neighborhood gypsies. I'm Paulina and I'm Jez, and we are here with your tarot reading for the week of September 22nd 2025. What do we have this week, Paulina? Okay, so.
Speaker 1:I first have to say that, like for anybody who's listening, I just want to let you guys know that if you have read the book or or just kind of have been following along in any of our interviews, we talk about how some of the decks like when I use a deck, it's really old school in the way that I just kind of like use any cards that we put together. So it could be a couple of decks put together, it could be some other decks, but whatever it is, it's something that I'm doing right now. So I just grabbed a deck that I normally personally use. I don't use with clients because it's all kind of crazy.
Speaker 2:I love that.
Speaker 1:Just so everyone knows, when it comes to the first thing I pulled out for love, we're doing love money and guidance, so for love, we got the Ace of Wands, so what do you? Think Jess.
Speaker 2:That's a sexy card for love for me. Like it's like sparks flying.
Speaker 1:Totally.
Speaker 2:It feels like maybe new interest. So with the Ace of Wands I often think of like attraction. This might be a time where you are either renewing sparks with someone who you've been with for a long time, or maybe, if you're single, you're noticing people or doing some like fun flirting, and or, if you're somewhere in between, just like vibing. And I also think, as far as advice, I really like to think about how important it is to do things with the people that you love, whether that's just you know you spending time with you, or you're spending time with friends or a partner, like go, do something that y'all are passionate about. Be active, like talk, do an activity.
Speaker 1:Right.
Speaker 2:What do you think?
Speaker 1:Walk.
Speaker 2:Yes, go do love.
Speaker 1:Yes, go do love. Um, yeah, I really feel like it has to do with like taking control, like you're wielding, you know, the wand, basically. So it means that maybe you might be afraid to like step up and communicate how you feel, or even communicate that you want to go do something and go out, and so I would say it's about taking control. I definitely feel like it's the whole like the sparks flying, like that's happening. Okay, so prepare for that.
Speaker 1:It's so crazy, because talking with my clients like that literally feels like such the energy right now and that's what it has been. So, yeah, literally feels like such the energy right now and that's what it has been. So, yeah, and when it comes to money, this one was really interesting we got the hierophant.
Speaker 2:oh, what a practical, reasonable card, right, yeah, what does that feel like to you?
Speaker 1:it's kind of like finding purpose in what you're doing every day in your career and things like that. I feel like we may have got something a little bit similar to that before a little while back, kind of like doing something that you know satisfies some part of your soul, which is really hard for a lot of people to be in that position, and we totally get that. Maybe it could be something on the side, maybe it's. It has something to do, I think, with that, but I also feel like it can be a little bit of a catalyst to the deeper thing. So maybe it's just testing the waters. You might be a little bit confused career-wise and money in general, what you're doing for money in general, so sometimes even like a side job. Maybe this is the time to look for something new. Just apply, you never know.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I think that's really good advice, especially, you know, with the spiritual element of the hierophant in there. It can very much be the way that you approach your job, even if it's not something traditionally we think of as super meaningful. I met someone actually my bookkeeper is an amazing example. So she's a bookkeeper, which sounds like a very traditional job and it is, and also she really sees it as an opportunity to help people heal their finances. She's a bookkeeping coach and she especially works with like women and minority owned businesses and just people who have money.
Speaker 2:Trauma is like that's her favorite thing to do. Is she like helps you not be scared to do your taxes and she's just so kind and she's all about teaching you so you don't need her anymore so you can like learn about money yourself, which is like such a noble way to approach your profession and like. So I also think the Hierophant could be encouraging you to work with someone like my bookkeeping coach, where it's like this is a good time for you to learn how money works, like what the systems are, because the Hierophant is all about our systems and structures that we're a part of and traditions, and so if you are feeling like, oh yeah, I, I guess I could be doing more like writing off business expenses, but I don't really know what I can write off. Like there are people who you could hire to teach you or to do it for you, and highly recommend, yeah, e&m bookkeeping Krista.
Speaker 2:Look her up, especially if you're in, like New England, because I think she specializes in that area, but maybe she'll work with you if you're other places. But, um, yeah, so I think it's a good time to get kind of nerdy about money. But also, if you're thinking about this in relationship to your career, the Hierophant can be helpful. Thinking about, like, how do you navigate, maybe a promotion, or how do you like make the most out of the system that you're a part of? Like, how do you maybe it's about getting your job to pay for you to do a certification or something, but the Hierophant, like helps you work a system.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's amazing. Um does she do long distance she?
Speaker 2:probably would I meet with her over zoom and I love her. Um, actually, we were kind of talking about having her on the podcast sometime to talk about small businesses. She's not romani, but her bestie is romani from finland and I met them. I gave them both a reading at Deadwicks. It was so fun like I met. I already knew Krista, obviously, but I met her friend Anna and she's amazing.
Speaker 1:That's really cool.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I definitely need some help and she knows you and so yeah the best part let's have her on the show too to talk about like, because I, I think a lot of us, especially in the Romani community, like we might be scared of the systems, and I was so it's like percent there was only keep cash, keep cash, yeah, okay, okay.
Speaker 1:So for guidance we get the four of cups.
Speaker 2:Hmm, okay, the four of cups is such an interesting card to me and I feel like it can be a tricky one to take advice with. How do you take that advice?
Speaker 1:taking things for granted and like, yeah, like I don't want to be harsh on people, but that happens a lot, and like we don't realize it, and so like it makes me feel like spend time with your loved ones, really look at your opportunities, like don't take things for granted. Basically, people in your life and things in your life like you're, maybe I don't even know some things are really good, some things are really shitty, but we still have to be thankful for them sometimes yeah yeah, exactly, and so I feel like there's that and also you might be overlooking things, like you might be not paying attention to what's right under your nose and just only paying attention like tunnel vision.
Speaker 1:So it's kind of like widen your range, you know, open your heart, open your mind and take it all in. That's what I kind of see.
Speaker 2:I think that's great advice. This card sometimes comes up for me when I'm trying to do too much in a way that's not helping. I get this with work a lot, where it's like, for instance, if I'm scheduling way too many events to the point where it's like I can't even advertise them, this card is like why don't you just sit down and stop being crazy? Which is also a little harsh, a kinder way to put that. It's like maybe you could take a beat, like maybe just take a minute to reflect what would it be like? I also think this card can come up if you are experiencing boredom, and much in the vein of your advice of not taking it for granted. It's always nice, if you're feeling bored or stuck, to do a check-in and see like, is it that I'm bored or am I at peace? Is it just a lack of drama or am I actually bored? And this means that I need to be doing more for myself. And so I often think of this card as like a relationship to stillness. It's like is it stillness or is it stagnance? Can you make something of what you have? Can you just be receptive to making the most of this? Do you need to take action. But like asking that really like, do you need to take action? It could be a yes or a no.
Speaker 2:Well, thank you so much, listeners, for tuning in. You can always check out Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling if you want to learn more about reading and our style. Speaker 1:Basically, yeah, thank you guys so much for listening. We really love and appreciate you and hope you tune in next time, yay.
