Romanistan
The authors of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling present: Romanistan! Do you love rebels? Do you want to live in a place where outcasts shine their brightest? Welcome to Romanistan! We're your friendly neighborhood Gypsies, celebrating Romani identity and outcast culture, and practicing good diplomatic relations with other marginalized communities.
We love the rebels who are living their truth, even if it clashes with tradition. We also love tradition and honoring our roots. This podcast is for everyone who loves and supports Roma & related groups, and anyone who feels like a misfit and wants to uplift others to create a beautiful community.
We feature pioneers in culture, fashion, art, literature, music, activism, cuisine, and everything good. We adore the intersections of gender, sexuality, spirituality, ability, and identity. We cover all topics, from the difficult to the glorious. Let's sit crooked and talk straight.
Hosted by Paulina Stevens and Jezmina Von Thiele. We reclaim the slur Gypsy, but if you aren’t Romani, we prefer you don't use it. xoxo.
P.S. The Romani people are a diasporic ethnic group originally from northwest India, circa the 10th century. Now, Roma live all over the globe, and due to centuries of oppression, slavery, genocide, and other atrocities, Roma are still fighting for basic human rights. We seek to raise awareness of who Roma are, and highlight Romani resilience, creativity, & culture.

Welcome to Romana's time.
SPEAKER_02:We're your friendly neighborhood gypsies. I'm Paulina. And I'm Jez, and we are here for your tarot reading for the last week of 2025. December 29th. We have your guidance for love, money, and guidance.
SPEAKER_01:As usual. Yes. So we have the Three of Cups for Love. What are you feeling? I love having the Three of Cups for Love.
SPEAKER_00:This is really nice. It's about just joy and happiness. And it also feels very celebration-wise. So because it's the last week of the year, I feel that this is the time where I don't know why I feel this word, but like rejoice. Like you know what I mean? Like come together, happiness, celebrate. Like I never use that word in real life, but I'm feeling it right now. And yeah, like it basically it's good. Like good things are coming, good things are happening. And I think honoring the love that you have felt throughout the year, even if there was some pain throughout the year as well, like honor that love, and it's gonna keep coming back.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, this is such a fun card. Definitely spend lots of time celebrating the end of one year and the beginning of the next, if this is when you mark your new year, uh, with your friends and family and whoever your crushes or your flame, your partner. Have all the people have all the celebration. Also, on the less cute side of things, sometimes this card can talk about love triangles. Maybe you need to be mindful of your jealous exes or your partner's jealous exes, or maybe it could be the fun part of this where there's an adorable polycule or open relationship kind of situation that's feeling really joyful. But sometimes this card can literally be about a third party, and that's not always bad. Sometimes that's you know, even better than you expected. But just be mindful of that sometimes your joy might feel a little conspicuous for other people, but that's not really your problem. You're supposed to have fun this week and celebrate and rejoice, like Paulina said. Yay! So we have the chariot for money. How are you feeling about that?
SPEAKER_00:So I do love the chariot, but it is about moving forward. So traveling, whether that be actually physical traveling or actually moving forward in general for money, it's about like making promises and delivering on them. And it has a lot to do with this year. And I almost feel like there is a movement happening, small businesses, you know, people in general, like owning their own things, like being that kind of master of your trade. Like we are all still working our nine to fives or whatever hours we're we're working at this time. But those little things, like following those little passions on the side, like I can't even express that enough because I just feel like even if it's writing a little bit or or documenting, writing a poem, like at the end of the day, like don't make excuses, like, find the little bit of something that you can do for yourself. You are your priority. And even though this chariot is about money, I feel like it doesn't even matter. Like it's it means that you can't get the money, you can't stay on the grind if you are not like doing well, you know, emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually, again, all of those things. So that's where I'm at with this one.
SPEAKER_02:I could not agree more, right? Yeah, I could not agree more. It's this is so much bigger than money, and again, it's a major arcana too, so it's major themes in everyone's lives. So we can look at a money as abundance in general. This is very much like what are your new year's resolutions or your promises to yourself or the things you want to focus on if you don't do resolutions. It can be a little, but um, they can also be really helpful. But it's like, how do you want to move forward? Get excited about this next new year. In some ways, marking the new year or a passage of time is arbitrary, but in another way, it can be really helpful for a mental reset. Write down your goals right now, financial or otherwise, and get excited about moving forward and take opportunities that take you places literally or metaphorically. I know I'm doing some travel gigs this week because I do parties and events and things like that. So literally, I know my money is coming from some travel. Yours might be too, or it might be more about your overall journey. But think about what is the next big thing for you and how do you get there? Because that opportunity is going to come, and if you grab it, you'll move forward faster than you would have expected.
SPEAKER_01:For sure.
SPEAKER_02:And then we have the sweetest baby angel of a guidance card, the ace of cups. What are you feeling about that?
SPEAKER_00:Yay! So the ace of cups is you know, your cup is overflowing, it's bigger than what you could even imagine. And I feel like it is about basically like keeping your heart open and letting this new energy kind of flow in. And again, like it's the end of the year, like, holy crap! Like, this is another chance, like, for you to I don't know, do whatever you didn't do this year or whatever. Like, this is your time, like the opportunity is coming out and it exists. And I also feel like I just have this urge to be like stay committed to the thing that you want or that clear path. Even if you change your mind on your path, know your path. It's so important to always have a destination. Um yeah, like know your path, have a destination, and refuse to get distracted. Like tell yourself, I'm not gonna get distracted, I'm not gonna do this, I'm not gonna do that, blah blah blah. Like have your days off, but make sure your days off are scheduled. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, or if you're overwhelmed, like yeah, take that, take that time off, but don't stay off track for too long because it's so hard to build up, you know, many things and they can all get destroyed in a day, whether this be relationships or reputations, like just all of those things, businesses, like build that shit up and keep it going.
SPEAKER_02:Absolutely. This is a very invest in your bliss kind of card. Make time for your healing, your love, your well-being, the things that bring you joy. And that seems so simple on the surface, but like you were saying, sometimes you gotta schedule that, or it's simply not going to happen. And it's your joy might be work, your joy might be rest, it might be a little bit of both. But the Ace of Cups is inviting you into a new phase of your self-love and your healing, you're in your healing era, and so this is a really beautiful card to start the new year off strong because it's the time to start it with love and compassion. I love the loving-kindness meditations that are really popular in some Buddhist meditation practices where you are imagining just being showered in love and contentment and safety and happiness. And then you imagine someone you love being showered in love and contentment and safety and happiness. And then you imagine someone you know, but you don't know really well, maybe like your barista or the person who fixes your car. You shower them with love and joy and happiness and safety. And then you think of someone you don't like, you actively dislike, and you shower them with love and safety and peace and happiness and comfort, and then you extend it to the whole town, the whole state, the whole county, the whole, you know, country, the whole world. And this is very much the energy. Like come into this year hard with love. And loving yourself also means having boundaries and standards and expectations and making promises and showing up for yourself and for others. It's not just this mushy, limitless, flaky kind of, I'll just say something sweet and that'll be enough kind of energy. It love is also commitment and the follow-through to yourself and other people. So start the year off with love and everything that entails.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, start the year off with love. That's our message.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:And we love you. Thank you so much for tuning in. We really appreciate you. We couldn't do this without you. And I always forget: if you're making donations in the new year, we are entirely donation run. So you can donate to our coffee, you can Venmo us, you can, you know, get a reading with us and tip us extra or whatever. It'll all go into the podcast, and we really appreciate it. And if you would like to book a year ahead reading, which a lot of people like to do around this time of year, you can book with Paulina at romaniholistic.com, and you can book with me at jezmina vontiela.com. We can look at your year ahead and give you some guidance and thoughts about how you can be your best self. And we can do this over Zoom or sometimes in person, depending, or over the phone, and it's a really fun thing to do.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, and I also actually want to ask you, our audience, or or our friends, or whoever you guys are, basically, if you you can't donate and basically even if you can't even listen sometimes, but you're listening to this somehow, we are having an enormous amount of hate because we are gypsy, I guess. That's literally it. There's no other reason, probably because we're also yeah, like we're not men, I guess. Yeah, um, I don't know what else to say about those things. But yeah. Uh-huh. And if you have just a moment, like go in some of our posts, you'll find people calling us, you know, gypsy rats, and we deserve to, you know, be off the streets and or be on the streets. I don't know, like just weird shit. People are coming up with anything and everything. It's a weird like hate thing. Like, people love to hate us. And I'm not talking when I say us, I'm not talking about even me and Jez. I'm literally talking about our community, our people. I'm talking about Roma from all around the world. So if you can please go into um our comment section and just yeah, I don't know, fight for us a little bit. Like sometimes we don't even want to delete all this stuff only when we feel like our audience can't feel comfortable listening or being there. But the truth is, like, we want the world to see how much this hate still exists and we want to push back.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, thank you. That really does help because uh sometimes people also want to ask, you know, how can we support you when you're dealing with all the racism? And that's such a good way of just popping in the comments and being like, hey, it's not okay to call people filthy rats who deserve to die in the streets. Like, by the way, that's what it was.
SPEAKER_00:Filthy rats who deserve to die in the streets. Yeah, that's what it was. Which is what we got. This is daily, yeah. You get hate comments every motherfucking day, okay? Every damn day that exists. So, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, and you can do that for anyone, you know. Um, I it's interesting because racist people think these things about every every group that is different, but I think feel more comfortable saying it about groups that are less represented or protected. And so Roma are definitely one of those groups. And um, if you're not the type to fight in the comments um but want to boost us other ways that are free, giving us a five-star rating and a nice little review, even if it's just a sentence long, makes such a huge difference for us. Like it really boosts the algorithm, it helps people find us, it helps us make helps make us eligible for awards, even sponsorships. And so um rating our book is the same thing. It really helps us with publishers and lists and all these things. So if you don't want to fight in the comments, but you do want to spread some love, uh, giving us positive reviews, or you know, reviewing Paulina on Yelp or reviewing me on Facebook if you get readings with us, it really, really helps.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, please do that, please. Thank you. Yeah, thank you very much. We have faith in you. You got this, we believe in you.
SPEAKER_02:Start the year with love. Yes, yay. All right, everyone. We are so excited to talk to you next year. Bye. Bye.
