Speaker 1:

Welcome to this episode of the Unstuck Podcast. I'm rather excited. We are getting a spa. We're getting a hot tub for the garden, which is cool because I'm just started training for the Queenstown Marathon later on this year and, as I said in the last podcast, I spend time with my coach Fletch, who puts me through the ringer at least four times a week, and the thought of being able to come home and climb into the spa and watch the stars at night. I'm excited Our spa should be arriving in the next few weeks. We've got the concrete laid, the garden's all prepared, it's cool. And we're getting the hot tub that I wanted.

Speaker 1:

You see, lizzie was quite happy with a smaller hot tub. There's only two of us now. The kids are all off on their adventures and, yeah, we're not the sort that would hold pool parties, sort would hold pool parties. So Lizzie was quite happy with a spa pool that would have two of us in there. Now I was keen on a slightly bigger one because you know, you can move around, you can sit in different places, you get massaged by the different jets and stuff. But Lizzie wouldn't budge, she was not. We only need the small one. So I walked in to the showroom and behind the spa that I wanted there was a massive thing. It was like a swimming pool, or like half a swimming pool, with the huge big jet that we yeah, you could create the resistance, you could swim in it. And I went and said I think maybe we'll have that one. Liz was shocked, dismayed. We don't need one that size. I thought we'd just get one for two people. So we haggled and in the end, lizzie accepted we'd go for the five person one, not the huge big pool that I'd asked for and not the little one that she'd considered the one in between. Well, what's this got to do with being unstoppable? Well, being unstoppable is an awful lot about the psychology. It's about the person that we choose to be. But there's an element of dark psychology in everything we do, just as there was when I chose the bigger hot tub, the swimming pool hot tub. The dark psychology was if I asked for something more than I really wanted, then in the end, lizzie, in this case, would commit to something smaller than I wanted but bigger than she wanted.

Speaker 1:

The art of negotiation. This is what's going on in the argument for Greenland. You know the President of the United States, what's his um, president Trump, and he said we want Greenland and we might use military force to get it. Likelihood of that? Well, I don't know. Just imagine if, in a few months time, instead of invading Greenland, trump turns around and says okay, how about we establish another couple of military bases in Greenland? Or how about we create some sort of partnership between the United States and Greenland? We're all sitting there going wow, well, at least he's not going to invade the country, but he's got what he wanted.

Speaker 1:

He got what he wanted by asking for something so huge that we were all shocked and dismayed, but then back down to something that was acceptable. But is it acceptable? The dark art of psychology? Sometimes we do have to just sit back and go. What's actually going on here? When people ask for really surreal and over-the-top things, is it because what they actually want is less than that? But they know, by asking for something huge, we'll be so relieved. We'll give them what they actually wanted a spa pool or Greenland. They seem completely different things, but the same psychology worked. I didn't really want a massive swimming pool filling up half of our back garden Huge, and we've got the sea just five minutes away. I can see the sea sitting here recording this podcast. If I want to swim, I can just jump in the car and go for a swim, as we quite often do. But by asking for something so big and making it seem completely surreal. When I asked for something that wasn't quite so far out of the park, guess what? I won the negotiation without it really even being a negotiation in the first place. So don't be surprised if, in a little while, there is an approach to Greenland that says can we establish some new military bases or can we have some sort of trade agreement that gives Trump exactly what he wants but doesn't require a full invasion, which the international community would hopefully decry.

Speaker 1:

Know what you're wanting, know what you're looking for and then think about how you're going to achieve it, and be smart. Dark psychology can work If you're aware of it. You know exactly what's going on, so take some time to consider it. What could you use it for? But then be aware of when it might be used against you. I'm looking forward to our hot tub I really am, and I did explain to Lizzie the whole concept of dark psychology and how we can use it in order to get what we choose out of life.

Speaker 1:

So, as you watch the media or read social media, just be aware of what's not being said. The media are very good at their opinions, and that's what our media does these days. They don't tell us news, they tell us their opinions for the most part. Take some time and listen to what's not being said, because in what is not being said is where the answer lies. Have a good one. I'll see you next time. That is it for today's episode of Unstoppable Force Living Beyond Our Limits.
