Welcome to episode 32!! Try not to share your germs when you share this episode, ye a smack cometh your way. This week’s topic is Compton’s Cafeteria Riot in 1966! Does this sound familiar? On a hot summer night, years of police harassment aimed at young trans and gay sex workers boiled over when the queer community fought back against their oppressors. This event in San Francisco, three years prior to Stonewall, was almost purposefully forgotten to history. Thankfully, elders and filmmakers came forward to share the stories of what happened that night, and we reflect on that importance while also mourning every other riot, protest, or fight that has been lost to time. In the wise words of Donna Persona, “Fuck that shit, gimme my rights”!
