Overcoming the Fear of Rejection

Overcoming the Fear of Rejection
Show Notes

No one likes rejection.  Some of us fear it more than others.  At times, it can paralyze us.  However, the reality is that in order to do anything meaningful, experience growth promoting opportunities or achieve anything requiring collaboration, which is nearly everything, we need to risk the possibility that we will be rejected.

There are many strategies on how to overcome the fear of rejection.  Yet, that's a bit like reading a book on how to stop your heart rate from accelerating during a 100 meter sprint.  Somethings are just unavoidable.  There are no shortcuts.

However, there are engagement based strategies and mindsets that can build your tolerance of rejection.

The key is to take measured risks.  Although these moments might feel uncomfortable (okay, highly uncomfortable) they do not present extreme consequences if they go wrong.

In this episode Tiff and I talk about my brief and hilariously tragic experience with open mic nights, as an example of how to put yourself in situations that help you grow, and progressively decrease the hold that the fear of rejection has over you.
