What Is a Peer Support Specialist?
Show Notes

The Local Lens is a public health podcast going inside one community's experience with the drug epidemic. Everyone in the town of Stanton, KY sees this drug issue differently from each other, either because of their personal lives or professional roles. This show aims to showcase those different perspectives by having honest, in-depth interviews.

After over 60 interviews, we have seen how important the Peer Support Specialist is. The job is important to people struggling with addiction, it is important to the person who gets to work as a PSS, and it is important to the whole community. Peer Support Specialists tie all the efforts of harm reduction together. They connect healthcare to the people who need healthcare. They build trust between groups that, historically, have never had trust.

In this episode, we have compiled bits from our past catalogue to summarize the incredible work and importance of Peer Support Specialists. These are our people, using our voices, telling our stories, because no one sees it like we do.
