Show Notes

The Local Lens is a public health podcast going inside one community's experience with the drug epidemic. Everyone in the town of Stanton, KY sees this drug issue differently from each other, either because of their personal lives or professional roles. This show aims to showcase those different perspectives through having honest, in-depth interviews with a new guest each episode.

In this episode, our host meets with Mrs. Jenell Brewer, who is one of the most active advocates in the region. At the time of recording, she had been running SPARK Ministries (Special People Advocating Recovery Kentucky) out of Stanton for 5 years, and the impact has been felt. Her nonprofit group works to connect people to the resources they need.

Jenell takes us back and tells the story of how and why she started SPARK, including her personal experience with her father and daughter. Instead of letting herself become too burdened by her experience, she let it motivate her to make a real difference in many lives across the state.

These are our people, using our voices, telling our stories, because no one sees it like we do.
