Hey mom, so welcome to another edition of the Life Unboxed podcast. I'm Jodi the mom, and normally I bring you information and inspiration on raising your kids, running a business, and keeping your sanity, because I want you to homeschool and work from home confidently. But for December, because it's Christmas time, we're going to focus more on the keeping your sanity part, and that means we're reading books. And so if you're just jumping into the series, I want to invite you to check out the other episodes in this series. So we talked about the five best Christmas books for moms, Christmas read-alouds, chapter books for kids, and now we are going to talk about the best cozy mysteries. All right, mom. So first on the list, of course, is coming from Agatha Christie and that's Hercule Perrault's Christmas. And of course, this is your typical master of mystery book with a locked door mystery who there's no possible way that anyone could have done it. You have people who do not see, who are not who they seem to be. So all the elements of a mystery are in this book. And if you want want to curl up in front of the fireplace with a nice warm cup of coffee, or maybe make yourself a peppermint mocha and read a good book, then I recommend this one. And number two on the list is Murder in Season. So I would totally live in Cabot Cove, except for the crime rate. It would be the perfect place to live. My husband always questions the murder rate there. Now, I grew up watching Murder, She Wrote, and I enjoy continuing the adventures that I used to watch when I was a teenager. So if I want a laid-back read, I usually pick a Murder, She Wrote book. And this one is a festive whodunit that's set against the cozy and occasional deadly backdrop of Cabot Cove at Christmastime. So small town New England at Christmas sounds good to me. So the brief synopsis is Jessica is almost done with restoring her house when human bones are discovered in the hole for her septic tank. One set is ancient and the other is more recent. And so she dives into another mystery of these bones. And then another murder occurs, of course, because it's chemical. And she must solve the deep secrets of the past in order to find the murder in the present. So despite the high murder in this very small town, I would totally enjoy Christmas time in Cabot Cove without the murders. Okay. And so our third book is The Cornish Christmas Murder by Fiona Leicht. I can never remember how to say her name. It's L-E-I-T-C-H. Okay. So this is book four in a Nosy Parker Cozy Mystery series. And this was the first book in the series that I've read and I thoroughly enjoy it. I mean, the main character is Jodi and the name is even spelled correctly. So as you know, a fellow Jodi. Jodi, who's had to spell her name every single time she's ever told anyone how to spell it. It's nice when there's a character in the book whose name they actually spell the name correctly. The style of writing is very easygoing and quite hilarious, and maybe it is my age, but I appreciate the heroines of the story are middle-aged, a bit round, and has a quirky sense of humor. So, Jodi is a former detective turned caterer and she finds herself snowed in at an old Abbey. So this mystery had me guessing for sure. With no way in or out and the police unable to reach them, Jodi must unravel whodunit amongst a cast of quirky characters. So if you're a fan of the Marlowe Murder Club or the Thursday Murder Club series, then you'll like this. book as well. So that is a wrap for our Christmas reads for this holiday season. So I'm wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. And be sure to like this episode, share it with your friends, and head on over to lifeunboxed.blog and let's connect.
