Moms working from home, we all want to get stuff done without losing our minds. Most days that happens, but it does take some planning.

I wish moms working from home could wave a magic wand and the birds would come and make the best, the mice would sleep the flowers, and the dog would wash the dishes. But, alas, we live in reality and not in a fairytale.

If you want a day without the chaos, yes, it is possible, then you need to have a plan and implement that plan. Your plan will probably look a lot different from mine, but there are things that we can all do to lessen that chaos and have a day without the stress…at least for most days. Yes, days get busy. Today did not go to plan, and it really did throw things off and maybe added a little bit of stress to the mix. You will have days like that. But if you are functioning at high-octane, the coffee is flowing like a broken fire hydrant, and you just can't seem to change it. Then you need to create a routine https://payhip.com/b/xmP9D that will chaos proof your day.

This post is going to give you my tops hacks for moms working from home. Is it possible to create most days that are stress free and chaos proof.

Let's get into the show.

Mom Working From Home Need a Routine

It is unsustainable to function at high-octane all the time. Running off a high stress level all the time can trigger a wide-range of physical and emotional responses in the body. These can include increased heart rate, muscle tension, and feelings of irritability. And chronic stress can lead to serious health issues.

Basically, if everyone is driving you crazy. Your to do list https://lifeunboxed.blog/to-do-list is overwhelming you on a daily basis, and you have zero time for a mom workout https://lifeunboxed.blog/workouts-to-do-at-home-a-moms-realistic-guide-to-working-out or even creative self-care. https://lifeunboxed.blog/self-care/

Then consider this your wake up call.

Our greatest assets are our physical and mental health, and we need to take care of them for the sake of ourselves, our family, and hopefully our future grandkids. It is time to stop running on high-octane and find a more manageable pace that lowers stress levels.

10 Genius Hacks for Moms Working from Home

  1. Plan Your Day

If you want peaceful days, then you need to stop flying by the seat of your pants and actually plan your day. Yes, you can still be spontaneous, if that's what you want to do, but you really need to know what is happening every day.

Most kids thrive on structure or knowing what comes next. And planning your day will eliminate the constant questions about what comes next because your kids will know.

I'm not talking about scheduling every minute of your day. That doesn't work for most of us, because life happens. But create a flexible routine https://payhip.com/b/xmP9D that will take the chaos out of your day.

Creating a routine will help you manage your busy days, or accept the fact that a lot won't get done on those days. And that's ok. You can still accomplish big things when your day is planned well.

2. Power Pockets or Margin

Somedays I crave an hour or three that will be uninterrupted, focused time. I could get so much done. But I don't live in a fairytale and my time is going to get interrupted. And that's ok.

Instead of looking for large chunks of time, moms working from home need to find the power pockets or maximize the margins of your day.

Stop waiting for a full hour of uninterrupted time. Instead, work in 15–30 minute bursts during:

  • Quiet time
  • Screen time
  • While kids are snacking
  • Before they wake up or after they go to bed

Stack these pockets and you’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish.

3. Workout

I know this is usually on the back burner for most moms, because, well, time. It takes time to work out. But here's the good news, you can work out at home. https://lifeunboxed.blog/work-out-routines-at-home-3-tips-to-stay-fit-working-from-home/

We are all going to age, but it is a choice on how well we do it. It is easier to build muscle when you are younger than to try and start when you get older. I don't want to run a marathon or do an iron man at 80 years old. But I want to know that I could if I wanted to. And that has to start now. Maybe your goal is just to be able to play on the floor with your grandkids. You still need to build the muscle now.

The most important thing you can do right now is to just start. Let your kids ride bike and you walk. They will love it. Or get some weights and start building your muscle now. Find some exercises on Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/LifeUnboxed/exercises-for-mom/ and get started.

Working out also helps manage stress, gets you to sleep better, and helps you unplug from your day. My favorite thing to do is to listen to an audiobook and walk. What are you going to do?

4. Time Out

If you want to accomplish big things, then you need to take a break https://lifeunboxed.blog/take-a-break every now and again.

I know your to do list is long, to the point of overwhelming, if you don't keep moving then everything is going off the rails.

But here's the thing. You need to recharge your batteries. It is impossible to accomplish anything if you are running on empty. You will get more done if you take time to recover.

This is your permission to take a break. Pick a day or a time of day, where you aren't going to do anything. You are just going to sit in your rocking chair, drink coffee (make it decaf, you need to be calm), and read a book. Set your to do list aside. Put a halt to all the ideas that are clamoring for attention. And just take a  break.

5. Meal Plan with Themes

I used to meal plan all the time, but it has been about five years since I did. Cooking is not a fun activity for me, and I was just tired of it. But there is still the expectation to be fed, so there needs to be some kind of planning.

At the moment, I cook, my husband cooks, and my three teens each have a day that they cook. So we have a pretty good split between everyone.

But when I was the one doing most of the cooking, I planned my days around themes. Although I didn't plan each meal, I had an idea what to cook on what day.

I always considered our busiest days, so I could plan easier themes on those days.

Here's what that looks like:

Monday: Ground Beef (Spaghetti or Tacos)

Tuesday: Chicken

Wednesday: Breakfast

Thursday: Crockpot

Friday: Pizza

Saturday-Sunday: Husband

6. Define Daily Priorities

This is going to be the one thing that makes your day go smoothly. What’s important to you?

If you created your routine, then you know what needs to happen each day and when. You can start fitting in the other things that need to get done.

Do you have a big project you are working on? Or a class you need to finish? Do you need to focus on something with your kids?

Identify these priorities. Pick 3 (or less depending on the size of the project) and slide them into your day.

You can’t plan your day if you don’t know what you priorities are. So identify them and find space for them.

7. Work on Habits not Goals

I know everyone loves goals in all their forms, but what if I told you there was a better way to get big things done?

It would break the cycle of starting with a whole of motivation just to feel like a failure in a few weeks.

Instead of brainstorming big goals, think about habits instead. Habits are going to take you from the frustration and failure of not achieving your goals to the engine that drives you forward to achieving them. Habits beat motivation every time.

If you want to crush your goals, then you need to work on your habits. Start with taking note of your good and bad habits. Then start creating new habits or build on your existing good habits.

8. Theme Your Days

Combine similar tasks, so you aren't switching between tasks often. You will actually save energy and time by batching tasks.

Here's the thing, your brain gets focused on something. You're in the groove and suddenly you wrench it out of focus to work on something else. It takes time to refocus and get in the groove on the new thing. This tasks more energy to do, and you lose time. Yes, I know it isn't a lot of time, but when your time margins are very narrow a few minutes become valuable.

If you batch similar tasks, then your brain is able to stay in the groove and you have better focus.

9. Delegate, Automate, Eliminate

Moms working from home, please listen to this, you don't have to do everything.

Involve your kids around the house. https://youtu.be/6NL1ZnLuj_E They can contribute.

Even toddlers can pick up toys. Older kids? Give them ownership of chores, lunch prep, or managing their own schoolwork checklists. This teaches responsibility and frees you up for work.

Plus, you're teaching your kids life skills is education too.

Automate repetitive stuff. We live in the golden age of apps. Find the ones that will help you automate and start using them. Your time is valuable, look for ways to set things on autopilot.

Eliminate those things that aren't moving you to your goals. I know we all want more productivity without saying no to anything. This isn't reality. If you need more time, then you need to eliminate something to make room for the new thing.

10. Declutter Your Mental Inputs

It is easy to by busy. But are you accomplishing anything? There are so many things that you do that will distract you from the things you need to do to move things forward or change things.

If you feel like you are running on a hamster wheel and going nowhere, then declutter your mental inputs. Carve out time in your day that is computer and phone free. Limit your social media to certain times in the day and for a set time.

It is easy to feel busy, especially if your mind is spinning, but you aren't actually accomplishing anything. Reduce the noise, so you can move your ideas forward and think with clarity.

Conclusion: Moms Working From Home

Mom, you are doing a lot, but the reality is that we can't do everything. Managing your time isn't about squeezing every minute of your day dry.  It’s about using your energy wisely, setting realistic priorities, and building routines that flex with your life.

Moms working from home, give yourself grace, find your rhythm, and remember: you were made for this. And if all else fails? There’s always coffee and a fresh start tomorrow.
