Welcome And Studio Chaos

SPEAKER_04

Hey everybody, welcome again to the boon show. This is the last time this year that we'll be sitting here in the studio.

SPEAKER_07

Last one of Steve.

SPEAKER_04

Did the sixth episode 20?

SPEAKER_07

20 times we've met to talk to interesting people throughout our community. And tonight is different.

SPEAKER_04

It is stacked show. Stacked. We've got all the principals here, except for one that notified director. He's on the phone line listening and tuning in, but he big timed us. That's all right. We'll uh we'll talk to him. We're getting a headphone situation uh taken care of here, too.

SPEAKER_17

He's no longer a principal. Well, that's true. He's one of them.

unknown

All right.

SPEAKER_04

Let me uh you got that? Sorry, you're you're seeing inside um inside the radio station here at the on the YouTube thing.

SPEAKER_07

You would have thought this would have been done ahead of time.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I that's what happens when you take for granted that the equipment works. I checked everything except my headphones because they always work.

SPEAKER_07

And mine is no longer working. So that's you gotta check every bulb, Clark.

SPEAKER_17

You gotta check every bulb. You know it's if our district had equitable funding from the state, we would have better equipment for the there we go.

SPEAKER_07

Right? Yeah. Hold on, Mr. Boone, it's me. I'm trying to fix this here.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, turn it up. I like it loud. Except it's kind of going into it.

SPEAKER_07

It's here.

SPEAKER_04

You gotta play with that. We'll edit this.

SPEAKER_07

You can't hear it though, I'm sure. There we go.

SPEAKER_04

Now I hear it. Now, okay.

SPEAKER_07

I got you. Just don't move, Mr.

SPEAKER_04

Bain. Oh. It's like the old uh antenna on the TV. Yeah. Uh all right, here we go. Sorry to keep everybody waiting. Uh we have all the principals with us, um, save one in person, but uh we have uh Dr. Kyle Whitfield on the phone. We'll be talking to him in just a minute. Robbie Roach from Palmetto, Dr. Adam Lanford from Powdersville, and Mary Bort from PHP. And later on in the show, we will be giving away our uh guest of the year, or at least making the announcement that uh been taking part in. And I wanted to say that now because Mary, uh, you would have won last year if we would have done this competition.

SPEAKER_05

Why?

SPEAKER_04

Because you had more streams of the show that you did than anybody else did.

SPEAKER_05

Oh no, mom and dad. Over and over, different computers.

SPEAKER_04

Um but anyway, we'll be we've had that going on over the last few weeks, and we'll announce the winner coming up. Um so let's let's just jump right right in. We want to get uh kind of a a chance for you guys to brag about your schools a little bit and tell us what all has happened there during the course of the year, and uh then we'll have a challenge going on in the second half of the project.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, yeah. We love challenges.

Wren Leadership Change And Legacy

SPEAKER_04

Last time we had a challenge, it was basketball, and Dr. Lamford won by hitting a three-pointer off the ceiling. Yes, and he defeated you because you only had a two-pointer. And of of course, uh Whitfield had nothing that day. No surprise. So hopefully he has more this day. How are your contributions as principals? I hope he can hear this. He can, he can. So let's uh is he up now? Can we go right to him? All right. Uh Dr. Whitfield, are you there?

SPEAKER_14

I am. Oh. I've been taking notes of all these uh you know comments uh directed.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, well, um you have good friends. Yeah. Um let's uh let's talk about uh Ren. And of course, the first thing that's at the top of the list as far as headlines go is uh you're wrapping up your time there. Talk about what brought you to the decision and how that's being carried out.

SPEAKER_14

Uh I mean it was a I'm not gonna pretend like it wasn't a tough decision. Like I I love Ren. Um I've enjoyed being there. Uh almost 10 years total, uh, five years as a censor principal, four years as principal, and uh just really enjoyed it. And uh, you know, I've always uh you know been kind of a uh a religious person, you know, like I think God opens and closes doors for reason. Uh prayed very fervently about this and he and he opened the door and um it it feels kind of like you know good timing. My son is a senior. I know Robbie's got one graduating as well. Uh so uh it's uh that that part's kind of bittersweet. Uh this year is uh kind of been, you know, I I like to pretend I'm tough, but I do love my kids. And uh, you know, spending senior year with him at times has not been easy because uh he's actually he's actually a good one. You know, we'll we'll keep him. Uh he's he's he's much different than his dad. It's uh he's a much better person. So um, but um definitely just an overall bittersweet experience, you know. It's uh you know, last of a lot of things. It was my last SIE uh um SIC meeting the other day. Uh you know, last uh uh senior picnic coming up, you know, and and so just trying to soak all that in and then you know trying to learn some things uh as I transition to the district office as well.

SPEAKER_04

Well, uh yeah, what else is when you go through a transition like this and you and you move on to the to the new principal? I mean, how much have you worked with him? And the new principal is is Daniel Bruce coming over from TR. Um, what have you done, you know, working with him for the the transitional process here?

SPEAKER_14

Uh so he's been over a couple of times. He's he's taken some time off from Greenville and uh come over. He's actually coming by again tomorrow, and uh, you know, he's uh uh he's a great guy. I'm excited to, you know, for him to take over, and I think he's gonna do some great things. But he he's uh we've spent some time together, but he's also spending time uh getting to know the faculty, so he's set up some you know time to meet with different uh groups or departments, and so which I think is a really smart move to kind of get to know the faculty and and kind of get a uh an idea of of his vision and where he wants to take the school. But uh I think it's I think he's gonna do incredible things and uh I think he'll be a good compliment. I would I mean I hate to say it's on the air because it's uh you know it's it's documented now, but I think he'll uh work really well with Adam and Robbie, who do a fantastic job. And so I think they'll compliment each other really well.

SPEAKER_15

We're looking forward to having him. Dr. Whitfield just wants you to know we're looking forward to him coming on.

SPEAKER_14

I mean, Mary, truth be told, Miss Bortz is my favorite in the room, and it's not there's no surprise, there's no surprise that she would have won last year, but you know, you guys are you guys are close uh seconds for sure.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, close seconds.

SPEAKER_17

Um so now that you are that first loser. He's number two to me, too.

unknown

Wow.

SPEAKER_04

Um, so now that you are leaving, what uh what are you most proud of that you accomplished during during your time there? What kind of legacy are you leaving?

SPEAKER_14

Uh man, that's a tough question. Um, I mean I mean I hate to get all serious because I, you know, uh Lord knows I love to joke around, but um, you know, I've always been wired just to to to like serve and make a difference. Um that's kind of how I've always got my fulfillment as a coach, as a teacher, and as an administrator. And so I guess just those moments of like, you know, I'm I made a difference, you know. Um maybe teachers buying into like, you know, we can be a better school, students buying into the idea we can be a better school. I mean those those moments, you know, kind of stand out to me more so than you know anything else. Um you know, just just uh you know, having kids come up to me randomly uh and saying, you know, hey, we're gonna miss you. I mean that's um I mean that's those you know, those are you know to me those matter more than you know some of the accolades and things that we've accomplished, you know, over the years.

SPEAKER_07

So tell us when you move on over to the new position, what specifically are you gonna be in charge of?

SPEAKER_14

Uh I guess everything that the other people don't want to do, to be honest with you. Uh it's it's all kind of stuff. Um, you know, uh when Adam and Robbie make somebody mad, I'll get those phone calls and um, you know, uh athletics, uh safety, uh operations, um, transportation, nutrition. Uh that's just kind of a general sense of things that'll kind of fall under me. Policy, board policy. So may have to write some some some board policies, you know, where principals can't go to the Bahamas, you know, during the school year, stuff like that.

SPEAKER_15

I don't know what you're talking about. Did everybody look over there?

SPEAKER_07

Well, we're excited to to have you go over there. I know uh I interact with you guys a lot. Um I I feel like I interact with uh Dr. Wilson just as much. So I'll I don't feel like our um my connection with you is gonna change a whole lot um in that, but I'm excited for you. I'm excited for the things that you're gonna do. I'm also excited for the new guy coming in. Um I haven't met him yet. So have Robbie, have y'all met the absolutely you have met on the book.

SPEAKER_16

Mr. Bruce's phenomenal, man. We're excited to have him on the team, be a part of our community. He's a he's a great guy, just great spirit, great for the community. He'll do he'll he'll take the work, I hate to say this on the record, the great things Dr. Whitfield's done and before him, Dr. Young, and just keep it moving and keep building greatness at Ryan. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_04

And um Kyle, is this kind of like a process for you career-wise? Is this what you're you know, you're you're trying to, you know, move on up in the uh, I guess, in the ladder? In the yeah, on the administrative level. Is this what you what you want, you know, what you saw yourself doing?

SPEAKER_14

Uh I mean honestly not not I mean I shouldn't say this is you know, Seth could be listening, but not I mean not really. I mean, I I've never been like the type of person that was like, you know, I I wanna, you know, I want to do this by this age or do this by, you know, like I want to be at this place. I mean, it just you know, um honestly I I didn't think doc you know, I didn't expect Dr. Wilson to kind of retire um, you know, when he did, and I think very highly of him and um you know, it just seemed like uh, you know, opportunity after prayer and talking to my family that I just felt right to at least try uh and see what happens. Um but uh but no, I mean I've never been, you know, I don't I don't have like this, you know, I want to be superintendent by the time I'm you know fifty or anything like that. I mean I've always been a very much uh you know um whatever door God opens is you know uh meant to be, like I said earlier.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Uh and by the way, you guys can jump in if you have any questions. Um but give it brag a little bit about what the school has done this year.

SPEAKER_14

Um, yeah, I mean it's it's been a great year. Um so we um athletically I think we've had a decent success. I mean, as that I mean, I think Adam would agree. Um maybe we don't agree on a lot of stuff, but you know, athletically being in 4A is really, really challenging. Um and it's you know it's a really tough conference, and so uh we I think we've done pretty good in 4A, uh had suc some success. Uh looking forward to moving into 3A um, you know, with uh with well I can't we Ren, because I can't be biased, you know, guys. Thank you, thank you. Yeah, yeah. So Ren will, you know, be moving back into 3A next year, which they're excited about. Um, you know, our our all of our fine arts programs, you know, they they reached a superior rating, which is awesome. It was one of the highest finishes our band had, you know, in recent years. I think they finished uh seventh uh in the state. And then academically, you know, we're um uh you know uh we won't have all our data till the end of the year with like ESTs and AP scores, but you know, I think we're all you know trending uh to have another good year. I mean, the one thing I'll say about just as a whole, not to make this just about Ren, but like it's very rare you have three excellent high schools. I mean Palmetto, Patterson, and Ren are um, you know, last year were able to achieve excellent in their school report car. There's not many districts that can say that they've done something like that. And and I I expect our our schools to, you know, um to do that again, um, which will be, you know, really, really awesome to see.

SPEAKER_07

That's great. That's great. Yeah, we uh even in and throw in uh BHP on that. We we are very fortunate to have all four schools.

SPEAKER_04

Well Mary's number one in her district. Oh I am number one high school.

SPEAKER_08

All of Honeyabat. That's right.

SPEAKER_07

We're very lucky to have all four school dis uh schools in our um in both of our districts that do very well in in all things academics, athletics, and arts. I mean, we we're really fortunate to have that.

SPEAKER_14

Sorry, I didn't mean to exclude you've got concerns.

SPEAKER_16

We knew what you were talking about so much for you being her favorite.

SPEAKER_04

All right, well, uh thanks for being on every year. You come on, we have a good time, and uh we can still do that. You can give us uh a show on a different perspective next year, that's all. So uh good luck to you. Congratulations on the new job, and uh congratulations on everything you accomplish at Wren.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, and thank you, uh uh John. Y'all you and Holly uh do a great job of the show, and Holly do a great job of the career singer. So I I would um I would absolutely love to be on next year.

SPEAKER_04

All right. That's Kyle Whitfield, the outgoing principal of Wren High School. Should we clap for him? Yeah, golf clap for us.

SPEAKER_05

I'm clapping in my hand, I'm clapping in my hand.

BHP Wins In Sports Arts Academics

SPEAKER_04

In your head. All right. Let's um now that we have uh Ren out of the way and the guy that couldn't show up, let's go to people who are here.

SPEAKER_07

That's right, the most important right now.

SPEAKER_04

And uh, ladies first, let's go to uh BHP. Um Mary, how are you?

SPEAKER_08

I'm good.

SPEAKER_04

Did you did you run all your half marathons?

SPEAKER_08

I did.

SPEAKER_04

All 12 of them?

SPEAKER_08

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

One of them? Remember she said that last year?

SPEAKER_08

That's awesome. That is 12 in 12 months. That's awesome. It's 12 more than me and Robbie can bond. And me.

SPEAKER_04

Add me in there in our labs. Was there any time you're like, uh, I'm not gonna do this, I'm not gonna make it. Uh skip a month.

SPEAKER_08

Some are harder than others, no, because once you pay for one, you're committed. I'm not not going backwards. So but it I'm it I'm glad it's over.

SPEAKER_07

Do you have a new goal this year? No.

SPEAKER_08

Um still gonna run once a month, or no, I've got a half next month, but that it's just local Greenbill. Um, but I don't have a necessarily a running goal. So I did it. Yeah, you didn't know. Check the box. Nice it was hard, but yeah, it's I did it. That's pretty awesome.

SPEAKER_04

My son started off doing uh 5K every month now, just getting started in that. So good luck to him. He's doing it with his wife and kids, and yeah, pretty cool. All right, so talk about the school this year. Uh what has BHP accomplished that you can brag about today?

SPEAKER_08

We've um we've also had a to echo some of the things Kyle spoke up with Ren, we've had a great year, um, several region championships with athletics, basketball, boys' basketball, football. You know, we came in second place in the state, two years in a row, football. Um our fine arts program are just blowing it out of the water. I'm so impressed. Um both had um superiors with distinction, both band and choir programs. Twenty-three of our choir students are all state. That is a school record. Um he's gonna be very angry at me that I don't know the band number, but we had a large band number as well. Um they both just won for the first time ever, both programs, outstanding performance awards, and they've never won that before. At the most recent competition that can be that in um on Saturday, both band inquiry. Um so they're really just pushing those kids and doing amazing things. Um academically, I mean we're rocking and rolling. We're also contingent on scores. We took our first DOC today. Um NAP testing is obviously coming up in uh next week, I think, actually. Um but things are trending well for us scores-wise. We got our first set back in December and they were doing great, and things are really just going well this year.

SPEAKER_07

It's good. It makes it makes it easy, doesn't it? Easier at least. So um what do you look forward to next year?

SPEAKER_08

Um continuing to grow, do better, be better.

SPEAKER_07

Anything new?

SPEAKER_08

Programs-wise, no, we don't have any big giant new things. Um we're really like we're really just trying to continue to do better. Um you've never arrived. So we're we're you're never there. Like we're always just trying to do better, be better in all areas. So uh we don't have any like big major changes or programs that we're adding or anything to that extent. Um we're just trying to continue to climb and get better.

SPEAKER_04

How how much is District 2 growing and as far as you know increasing numbers at your high school?

The Middle School Consolidation Vote

SPEAKER_08

Um so our enrollment is actually a little down right now. Um we had a couple of very small groups come through, and we're now getting those groups. So our ninth and tenth grade are just small. Um it was only a matter of time before they got to the high school. So um we are not down because they're necessarily leaving to go anywhere. They were just small groups that had were coming through for whatever reason. Um you know, we're waiting, we're eagerly anticipating what's gonna happen Saturday. The vote, the big vote.

SPEAKER_07

And that's a consolidation of the two middle schools.

SPEAKER_08

Correct.

SPEAKER_07

So there is a at a new location.

SPEAKER_08

Yes, so um there is a big election this Saturday to go out and vote. Um, whether it's one way or other, exercise your right to vote if you are in Anderson School 32 voting area. And um that is to determine whether or not we will be consolidating the two middle schools. Um both of the buildings are in lots of needs for improvement. They're all pre both the previous high schools, they're old. Um, so it's determining whether or not we're gonna fix up those two buildings and just keep them, or we're going to combine and have a belt in the Honey Path Middle School right in our backyard, right behind us.

SPEAKER_04

Um I'm not getting political here, but at the uh Chili Cook Off uh last week, there's a lot of people carrying signs around for that on that issue. And I'd just like to know what the other side is. Why are are the people that don't want it that are saying no? Why are they doing that? I'm just asking curious why. Because it seems like it would be a slam dunk to me.

SPEAKER_08

Taxes, I mean money.

SPEAKER_04

But but either way, don't they? I mean, if you fix up the other buildings, don't they have to I mean one way or the other.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. But there are there are pros and cons to both. That's right. Okay. Always is.

SPEAKER_04

All right. But that is a big thing. It is a big thing. Um you've about covered everything I have on my list. I will say this about um football since I'm a big uh sports guy. Um now your program has always been good. But being in the state championship two years in a row uh is pretty awesome. So now it's kind of like they arrived. Now next year, have you lost a lot of seniors after this year? Yes, sir. Yeah, that's what I thought. And you got a new coach. Yes, sir. Um so we'll see what happens. But um but it's almost like you've arrived on the scene and it's up to those younger guys now to to carry on.

SPEAKER_08

We've got a tough schedule, we just put it out publicly yesterday.

SPEAKER_04

Um and it but we're gonna fight it and we still the cool thing about the schedule this year is all of our ACTC schools are in the same region. Like it used to be way back when. But um so that'll be fun and give us some angles to work on uh as well and some really fun games as far as ACTC goes. Um because um you know in 3A I've got Lamford over there. Powersville's always good. Um in fact, they're way better last year than I thought they were gonna be. They did a good job. They did. They sure did. Just got beat by BHP, otherwise they would have been in the championship.

SPEAKER_15

Them Bears were still there. They came down to Powersville and put it to us.

SPEAKER_04

And I know Palmetto has been building, um, and we'll talk to Robbie in a minute, and and their JV did really good this year. So um uh it's gonna be fun having all those schools together. Um all right, is there anything else that's uh that we're missing here, Mary? Uh you have any teacher of the year, staff of the year type things you want to announce or anything like that?

SPEAKER_08

Um yeah, I mean I always will brag on our staff in teacher of the year. So Miss Ashley Hanks is our teacher of the year. She is a business teacher in my building, and we actually started together. We've both been at VHP for 18 years, so we started together. Um she's uh very near and dear to my heart, and then my um support staff member of the year, Mr. Ethan Hanna, and he this is actually his first year, but he is a student shadow and the man is a saint. He is with a unique student, and he is a saint, so he is very deserving. Um he's going to be graduating in one year with a SPED degree. So very cool. So maybe come back and work.

Break And Local Sponsors

SPEAKER_04

Those people are awesome. The people that do that, and there's some good ones in the district, certainly. Um all right. Thanks for sharing. We're gonna take a quick timeout, and then we'll talk about Powdersville and Palmeadow. And uh Zach will be along. Okay. And we'll announce our winner, the guest of the year, and uh do some other stuff. It's our year-end show with all the principals here on MyPulse Radio.

SPEAKER_13

Don't forget to stop by the Michael's radio booth for giveaways and a chance to meet the one and only fly balls. Bring the whole family, enjoy the fun at Mineral Spring Park this weekend.

Palmetto Growth And Community Support

SPEAKER_04

Yes, indeed, we'll be at Mineral Spring Park this weekend, hoping the weather holds off. I was looking ahead at the weather forecast for this weekend, and they said it will either be cold and rainy or dry and hot. So I'm glad that uh they were able to narrow that down for me so I can plan. Did you get that from Chris Justice? Yes, as a matter of fact. Um he says there's there's a weather war going on with this whatever front. And if it goes one way, it'll be warm and dry. And if it goes another way, it's gonna rain all weekend and be cool. So we don't want the rain. No. We've got a festival to go to. Yeah. But I was glad that they gave me a good planning forecast. All right, let's talk about Palmetto. Robbie Roach is here. Welcome. I don't have any uh eggs for you to eat today, any of those uh quail eggs. But uh maybe next time we'll jump back into that. We'll never forget that Willie Holly. I'd never quail eggs that uh he had us try one time when he was on the show.

SPEAKER_07

And he ate them.

SPEAKER_04

It was a good time. They're amazing. It's still the one time in my life for eggs.

SPEAKER_16

That sounds disgusting.

SPEAKER_07

But it smelled like they were not cheap. They were not cheap eggs. These were like special quail eggs. Who brought these?

SPEAKER_17

Who did bread? Well we found I might have I might have brought them.

SPEAKER_04

You might, yeah, I think you did.

SPEAKER_17

I did uh it's a staple over at uh over at the dairy over there near near where I live in Possum King. Yeah, the happy cat. Yeah, you live in prank bows. No, that's the other one. Right on the fringe of pro Possum King. Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_16

Sounds like a Possum Kingdom thing.

SPEAKER_08

Delicacy.

SPEAKER_04

The kingdom of possum. All right, tell us about uh Palmetto and what's going on over there. I was just over there the other night for your uh senior night for a girl soccer, yeah, and they are having a phenomenal year.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, they are. They're doing a great job. Um, lots of enthusiasm there. Uh we have some girls that have been playing for quite a few years that uh are are finally uh you know seeing the the results of being together for a while. So it's been a good thing. Um, you know, one thing I would like to say before we talk more about Palmetto's, congratulations to Dr. Whitfield on the new job. Uh I certainly appreciate the fact that uh through his tenure, you know, Dr. Young, Mr. Binneker, they all always have had a palmetto tree in their logo, which is appropriate. They pay homage to Palmetto. And I just want to remind everybody associated with Wren that Wren rhymes with sin.

SPEAKER_05

Never forget it.

SPEAKER_16

He brings up some very good points.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I've imagined you'd agree with some of us, yeah. Um yeah, back to what's going on at Palmetto.

SPEAKER_17

I would echo what Mary said. You know, we we've had a lot of success with a lot of things that uh uh j just like the other schools have talked about, uh good results in the arts. Our our Air Force junior RTC continues to do amazing things. You know, they they have uh I don't know how long they've been in existence totally, but you know, ever how long it's been, they've been exceptional every year and they continue to just you know be a bright, bright spot for us. Uh one of the best things we have at school.

SPEAKER_04

Um and you've been doing a lot uh academically. I I've heard some good things as well.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, our our math team's really stepped up and uh done a lot of stuff and and uh just working really hard. Uh both of the other principals have talked about you know how we're always seeking improvement. And you know, I think uh one of the best ways to say that is striving ever upward. That's our uh our logo, our I mean our motto there at school that's on all of our logos that we have around just reminding everybody that seeking that constant improvement. So that's what we're doing.

SPEAKER_07

So where do you guys see yourself next year? What is you have a goal you're working on?

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, just to continue in incrementally uh making some improvements, but we we want to see what math's doing translate into biology and and English and and U.S. history. We we we saw a little bit of improvement in in those areas, but not like math. So you know, kinda trying to translate some of those things they're doing into the other subjects.

SPEAKER_07

So is all the building done in your area?

SPEAKER_17

Like I know you had some renovations to baseball, like everything's pretty much what they're working on now is uh we are redoing the visitor stands and at the football stadium. Um just it was just old, didn't have uh handrails going up and kind of didn't have aisles going up, so it wasn't the safest situation. So uh luckily the district's helped us in taking the old out, and we're gonna usher in some some new safer options for that.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's another thing I noticed over there when I walked in the stadium. It's like there's something missing, and it was the whole other side. Yeah, so yeah, they're uh doing some big time improvements there. Um what can you tell us about uh fine arts over there?

SPEAKER_17

You know, every everything's going well with fine arts. Our our theater program just wrapped up uh doing another very successful musical. Um theater teacher actually is you know experiencing some difficult situations with his family and uh and some health issues, but everybody kind of came together to fill in. Uh you know, at first he felt like hey, uh, we're not even gonna get it done, but you know, we had some community folks, some other folks step in and we're able to have the musical, you know, the show must go on. And uh a lot of people stepped in and made sure that happened and it was a great success.

SPEAKER_07

You know, that shows us you're not just a school, you're a family.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Everybody steps in.

SPEAKER_17

And they and they really did, and you know, they did some fundraising and stuff for for our theater teacher and his family too. So it was a good thing. Yeah, that's awesome.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it was good coming out of what was a scary, bad situation, and still a ways to go um in that situation. But uh yeah, they pulled it off. They pulled the show. We had several students in in a couple of our classes that were in the show, and they they never wanted to quit. They wanted to, you know, carry through because it looked like, like you said, that it it might not happen um right before spring break there. And then they came back and worked hard and did make it happen.

SPEAKER_17

So I tell you, it's impressive every year. Not not just how they perform, but the work they do on their sets and stuff, it is impressive. Um I you know, things I look at and I'd be like, well, I mean, I might would build a wall there and put a curtain over there, and I mean they go all out. They they really do a great job with the technical aspect of theater as well as the performance. So it's it's been a good program that we've had there for a long time now.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, my son was in it when uh when he was over there, and that was when Ragland was still there. And of course, uh Jonathan Long's done a good job as well. Uh one thing I will ask of your athletic department. Can you please paint the goalposts?

SPEAKER_17

That that's apparently on the docket. I hope so.

SPEAKER_04

Because we have yellow anyway.

SPEAKER_17

We have a we have a community member that wants us to take those down and put up some like LSU has, but we're we're not doing that. It's about$20,000. Oh, that's a rounding air for Palmetto High School, the money y'all round around. Yeah. Yeah, our uh our booster club is uh stepping in to help get those things painted. They definitely do look awful.

SPEAKER_04

They're rusty. It's like every year I keep thinking this will be the year.

SPEAKER_05

This will be the year.

MLB Talk And WrestleMania Review

SPEAKER_04

But uh all right, Robbie, thank you. Um we need to go to the phone lines right now and uh talk to our sports guy. And again, you guys can chime in. Uh Zach, are you there?

SPEAKER_12

I'm here. How are you?

SPEAKER_04

Good. How are you?

SPEAKER_12

I'm doing good.

SPEAKER_04

What's going on? What do you have to share?

SPEAKER_12

Well, uh, can we talk a little bit of Major League Baseball?

SPEAKER_04

As long as you don't mention my team.

SPEAKER_12

Can we talk about can we talk about who still has their manager as of today and who doesn't?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, the Braves still have their manager, the Phillies do not. But that's what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_12

Hey, I wasn't expecting this. Let me tell you. I wasn't expecting this. I mean, half of our pitching staff is injured on the I. But it's not how you start, like I told you a couple weeks ago, it's how you finish. Yeah. So we'll you gotta you gotta get hot, you gotta stay hot. So Clemson's not worth watching, so I just decided to keep up with the Braves.

SPEAKER_16

He's not wrong, unfortunate point. Not wrong.

SPEAKER_04

The softball team's decent, right? Yeah, yeah, they're ranked or we're ranked.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, the softball team's decent.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Yeah, just go over there and watch the girls. Why not? Uh so what else you got there? Uh did we ever talk about WrestleMania? You got any wrestling news? Um, we gotta share some wrestling.

SPEAKER_12

Well, we we didn't because somebody texted me after 5 30 today.

SPEAKER_04

So a little typo in my text to him.

SPEAKER_12

You know, so and I'm like, well, you know, he's usually on the money about the 4 30 thing, and I just I was just waiting around until 5 30 and then he calls me and I'm at home.

SPEAKER_02

I can come on the show now.

SPEAKER_12

So you had you you had you had the uh feelings on your mind, didn't you? You just I doubt it. You're just kinda in a little bit bit of a hole or something.

SPEAKER_04

I've become a hockey fan now. I got the flyers on it.

SPEAKER_12

No, I was I don't want to say I was I was just disappointed in WrestleMania. That's why I hadn't really been hyped up about it because I've seen better. It just wasn't to me it just wasn't all that. I mean I I've seen I've seen a lot better um than what I've seen this year, but but you know, like we talked a couple weeks ago, it's it's it's entertainment for a reason and it's it's fun to watch and and and I guess I'll be watching it till my little girl quits watching it, but I don't know if that'll ever happen or not because my uh two-year-old seems to be getting into it. Look out. She seems to be doing some of the moves on her friends at school.

SPEAKER_04

So it might get her in a little trouble.

SPEAKER_12

It hasn't it hasn't it hadn't happened in a while, but you know, it's uh but but yes, you don't understand that the choke holes that she puts me in here at home don't you can't do that to your friends in school. Yeah, you know, because I mean I can't you know I can't put her in a chokehold, you know.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I would hope not.

SPEAKER_12

She can't go putting her friends in a chokehold. That's right. So but but uh but yeah, just uh really just really the only thing going on is Major League Baseball, and you know, we had talked about a couple weeks ago was the um the money that the Mets spent last off season, and and I don't I didn't really keep up with a lot of the feelings. I think they got everybody back but Castellanos and and it's just it's just crazy what you know what a year can do or one off season, and like I said earlier, and even a couple weeks ago, we talked about every one of the pitchers for the Braves is is injured. You got Sean Murphy and Spencer Strider. I just hope Spencer can bring it to the majors because he seems to struggle a little bit. Um but like my dad always says, it's not how you start, it's how you finish. They play 162 games and they can eat they're they're 20 and 9 now, but they can easily go 9 and 20 in their next 29 games.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that'd be nice.

SPEAKER_12

And I mean the Phillies in in in all seriousness, the Phillies have have time to turn it around. I mean, they they have time to turn it around. They've got a brutal lineup for sure. Um I wasn't expecting a sweep out in Philly, especially, and I wasn't expecting to take two or three because I said they're gonna come here and then they're gonna get their winning streak started. I mean, honestly, I thought that. And uh, but I don't know. It's just it's it's crazy how a year can turn things around because they won the league last year.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_12

They they won the uh divisions this year, and then you know, so but and it's like the Phillies, it's like when they get to the World Series, they just it's like they they they don't know how to win. So you don't know if they're if I I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

It it it's crazy how winning championships and being a good team.

SPEAKER_12

Well, you know, he he was summer winners correct. What wasn't he wasn't he the interim after they got rid of Joe?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_12

And then they went to the World Series being the manager and then led them to the division championship in the World Series next year.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_12

Because I think he's been to two World Series, hasn't he?

SPEAKER_04

Uh one. And the other time was the NLCS.

SPEAKER_12

Okay. So, you know, I don't know. I I guess they just don't put up with it up there, you know, going and not not being able to win. So But at least at least he ain't like the Braves were in the 90s where they won the pennant just about every year and uh never won the big one but one time. Yeah my dad always talks about how good Chipper Jones was and said he was on the 90s team with all with all three of those pitchers. Um Lavin Maddox and uh John Smoltz won one World Series out of like 15 or 16 years they went. So but that's why you play the game.

SPEAKER_04

That's why.

SPEAKER_12

We'll we'll we'll see.

SPEAKER_04

So well uh hey, thanks for another year of coming on with your sports wisdom.

SPEAKER_12

Yes, sir. I I I I appreciate this every I appreciate this every uh every week. I've I've just had a lot going on the past couple of months. Hopefully, hopefully the next time we talk, I'll have answers and I'll have you know everything's looking up and we just took out we just tore out our cabinets to have our kitchen floors replaced. So on top of all the things. Yeah, why not?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. Why not just add some more stuff?

SPEAKER_12

Hey, at least the Braves are doing good.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, I think you said that like six times.

SPEAKER_12

All right. So so anyway, but yeah, but hey, when we talk back in August, it'd be time to talk football.

SPEAKER_04

That's right. That's right.

SPEAKER_12

So uh well, y'all have a good summer. Yeah, you too. Y'all uh in just a few months. All right, we'll see you.

Powdersville Programs And Student Belonging

SPEAKER_04

All right, bye-bye. All right, that's Zach. His and you know, his wife is battling cancer and has another operation coming up in a couple of weeks. So uh yeah, he's been through some rough times, but uh he's he's making it. All right, uh, it's time to talk to Dr. Adam Landford, Pottersville High School. Um, speaking of athletics, uh you guys have been doing pretty good over the last couple of years over there.

SPEAKER_16

We've had a pretty good run. Yeah, a bunch of sports.

SPEAKER_04

A lot of banners on the wall in the gym there.

SPEAKER_16

There there are a few. There are a few. You know, we've got great kids that work hard and great coaches. I mean, Coach Brooke Bassini, shout out Brooke. She uh I think she just got her fifth state championship uh in volleyball this year, was able to take down some juggernauts on the way there and um has a great program running. You know, we've had great success. Football team ran into the bears, but uh but really got turned it on there towards about halfway through the year, really got on the right side of things. Coach Muster does a great job with those guys, the guys play hard for him. Um but you know, and across the board academically in great shape. We uh you know, we we've really been pushing our dual enrollments and I mean we had 150 kids, uh over 150 kids involved in dual enrollment on campus this year, which is which is huge, and it's been great, you know. And then I mean the fine arts are absolutely blowing up at the seams. We banned, of course, both OPA again this year. Um our theater program has they had put on an unbelievable show in the spring to strike the musical. I think there were about 70 kids, give or take, involved in that process. And it was I would I took my three-year-old with me Friday, but the Friday performance second week, and and they kept a three-year-old attention for two and a half hours, which is I was impressed as could be. And I mean, just incredible talent. Genevieve Langren does a phenomenal job with that group of kids, and like the community that's being developed among that group is just it's awesome to see across our system. It's just growth and all around, you know, academics were doing well, uh, trending in the right direction. But like they said, it's just chasing greatness continuously every day. As you know, I heard a statement the other day, excellence has no ceiling, and just trying to keep pushing the limits and and and do it, but also it's not just about ac academics, it's about the the whole child and make sure we're supporting kids and having opportunities for them. And it's been uh a great year for that, continuing those things, huge numbers across the board participating and being involved in the system. And I mean, new clubs we're adding every we I think we've added three or four clubs this year, and just really trying to get every student involved in something, find find their group, find their people, and really dig something great.

SPEAKER_04

And I've seen a lot of community service coming out of there too. So every time I look on social media, they're doing something in the community.

SPEAKER_16

Yes, I mean it you know, it's a it's an interesting thing because Powderville's uh is uh kind of a growing community, and but you could argue we're one of the few places left where the school is still the hub of the community. I mean we are the anchor community.

SPEAKER_07

Powderville, you definitely are.

SPEAKER_16

And the the the building around, you know, you have the 153 corridor of of things and and it's a commuter town without the you know centralized we're not a town, but our school is kind of the hub of all of that. And we've got you know partnering with uh with the chamber of commerce and partnering with our different groups. I mean Rhythm on the River is coming here May 4th. I don't know if that's free no free ads, but um really excited about that down at Dolly Cooper. I mean huge thing for the Powersville community and our our kids are providing a lot of the manpower for that, and that's a great that uh Connect Powersville puts on. So it's really going well. Springs going great. I mean, just we'll see where the numbers land in EOCs, but our people have been working the tails off again. Kids kids work hard, do a great job for us, and you know, just trying to see the what what we're trying to do. You know, that this is the the test is not the end, it's just hey, it's showing us where we are and and continuing to grow in that area and just supporting kids and and learning and and listening and trying to do what they try to provide opportunities for them.

SPEAKER_07

So is there something on track for next year specifically, or you're you're in the same boat everybody else is? You know, uh which is an awesome boat to be in.

SPEAKER_16

So so I'm finishing yeah, I'm finishing year five here. And you know, year one, we made the schedule switch. We went we went to the the four by four block. Year two, we went to the flex time, uh, middle of the day, early release on Wednesday thing. Year three, we really so we've really kind of stayed in place, not trying, you know, let's let's let's do what we're good at, let's let's not try to keep adding things in. You know, we're we're we're we're working with Leader and me right now to see if we can implement that in some of our systems. Um just to really grow again that whole child. It's it's about making kids have great and I still use the word soft skills, I know that's not the official phrase anymore, but really working through that. Um so that's really been good. And and I'm excited to see where our kids take it because we we want our students to have the voice, we want our students to to be the leaders that they uh the school school is for them and w adults need to facilitate that, and that's really been our our drive and our mission to hey students ask a question, I want to see a thing, and they provide great rationale and have a process to do it and then go. So it's really been good.

SPEAKER_07

You know, it it's so funny because I think we we all see this is that our students, when they're involved, it doesn't matter where they're at, whether it be involved with ROTC or a band or theater or athletics or even our programs here, as long as they're involved, you see that out. outcome from them. You see that they're always looking to see what's up next on the horizon. So I think I think providing those opportunities in all those areas gives that sense of belonging for everybody.

SPEAKER_16

Absolutely if you've ever been in a room with me, everybody thinks what they ask and the statement is you win from three to six. That's right. Eight to three goes better when you win from three to six. And that's not just winning in competition, that's just having the kids involved and having their place. I mean our winner ensembles of everything. It's just we want an opportunity to for students. And the more students you have involved, the better the better you can have.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Well we're excited that that we have all four well I know Kyle's not here but have all four of you guys to be able to uh take students from because you guys give us great students you really do. So you're doing good jobs. Kudos to y'all if we could support you in in any of in in any of it just just let us know because I know we're all in this together.

SPEAKER_04

And I did want to point out that uh a first for powdersville was you had someone make the major league.

SPEAKER_16

We did yeah Karen Troyer made the league I think he's I'm not sure where he is at this I think he's up at the he's up at the highest level now and maybe I was at I know he broke in it somewhere. Yeah he was in triple he started in low A and he was in double A starting the year I'm not sure where he is at this moment but I mean he was with the Yankees organization right yeah with the Yankees and pretty awesome you could go to not a bad place but um great family I mean that family was heavily involved in the Bashwood community for years and just he's a hard worker that does things the right way and I mean he was he he left the year before I got there but I mean I've heard enough great stories about him as a human and that's always you want to see good people do great things.

Festival Spots And More Ads

SPEAKER_04

I know uh PhD is at uh Bonnecroy and uh you know who's who's the other one yeah right off the bat uh Robert okay anybody make it yeah actually one of my buddies it was in my wedding really his name's Eric Moody he graduated in 89 a long time ago it's just really cool when you're Texas Rangers nice that's all nice so uh so yeah so that was a first for Powdersville um and uh I just wanted to say now uh we're a little biased because our sports network basically covers you guys correct um they chose the best I want that notion well you know we we do a little bit of Palmetto too um BHP tells us they don't have room so I get on to Lake Ray about that yeah yeah so there's there's still having been to eventually been to a couple events there I don't disagree with well yeah but uh powdersville has a has nice sight lines for everything that we do and all that and but and I'll tell you you talk about coaches and and all these school I I I don't envy you having to choose coaches and run programs because sometimes when you change coaches you have a whole bunch of people want to leave want to complain they don't even give it a chance which you probably run into with football um but your basketball coaches this year both of the teams started out a big hole and it was like oh my gosh how bad is this the girls' team almost the entire team was gone from last year and the boys team was very young um so both teams wound up being very young but I tell you over the course of the season there was such large amounts of improvement on both and um they made the playoffs and they did get one didn't they get one win out of playoffs. Boys got one round win girls got beat in the first round but made it made it a game I mean yeah I mean it was especially when you have to broadcast the games you want the teams to be good and we were like oh no because I mean the scores at the beginning of the year were not good and we're like a gauntlet open the year. Yeah and uh but man they worked hard and they improved I just got to hand it to the coaches there. They did a great job in their first year after you know a big turnover. So uh and that can happen in football this year. It's uh everybody's expecting nothing to happen because everybody's gone you got a new coach you never know just like the new coaches over at uh at Palmetto who came from Powderville has been turning around at Ryan I don't want to say anything about Ryan I don't I don't want to disparage that fine man on the air he is fantastic. He's he's definitely the guy we need to uh continue growing and it's you know it's a culture thing really winning is a culture getting over that hump to learn how to win is is a culture thing we were just talking about with Zach sometimes you have a bunch of players that don't know how to win and they'll just get to a certain point but if you build a winning culture then it it builds on itself and snowballs a little bit. All right um it is time for for Danica to set up today's challenges because we can't leave without being not serious. Right because we're serious we're like oh yeah what's the updates we want to know all that stuff but we want to play around a little bit with our with our principals here before we go. So uh we'll be setting that up we're gonna take a quick uh commercial break here and uh and then we'll we'll play a couple of games that are principal related that's coming up on the Boon Show My Pulse Radio.

SPEAKER_07

So we should have definitely uh put this on air because you should because the conversation yes so Mary's over here with her daughter trying to get her daughter to help her out. Robbie's building a fighter jet yes he's and he he has one done he's he's ready and Adam is still making adjustments over there. You gotta get it just right.

SPEAKER_04

All right so um the object here to make it simple is uh to hit somewhere in this middle area of the wall behind me okay it has to make it that far and um if we have a tie we'll figure out a way to break the tie brace that's right but sometimes they just go straight down and I and I'll move out of the way. That's probably a good idea Mr. Bain's hit but uh Robbie you want to go first do I need to move?

SPEAKER_08

Sure. Like does he need to stand in the center?

SPEAKER_17

Well he could stay in our seats I don't all right on the center that is the what's dead on the center follow that is the key to airplane airplane building I mean it might be connected to the Air Force junior ROTC. Yeah I mean 12 years you've been paying attention to that kind of stuff I was I was in the Marine Corps air wing much like uh much like Holly's husband.

SPEAKER_04

See yeah so maybe I I remember back when we had a class in high school I wasn't in it but I saw them out throwing their airplanes around and they would take a chunk out of near the uh near the front near the nose of the plane to change the weight distribution and sometimes that made it fly further. But now Mary's next and I will say right now she is not going to win but we will give her a chance to because she is the underdog with a strange looking well space shuttle's original my sweet 10 year old daughter oh Emma is this going to fly? You don't know you're not that confident shoulders hands down the coolest looking one though. I mean it is it's different that's more like a a cargo plan.

SPEAKER_08

We're gonna apologize in advance for what is about to happen here this might hit somebody so okay all right here we go try it out oh fail still waiting it dived it dived right beside you Mr.

SPEAKER_17

Boone it's okay it's all right mine's gonna be just as bad don't worry all right you can move towards the center if you want you just go right over the screen over it's gonna I don't think it's gonna make it past the table but we'll see a good start just dove down all right so rock I mean that was clear cut is you were confident going into the round uh that you would win and you did indeed you good job Emma if there was a bullseye there you would have hit it maybe my lack of focus on uh you know what I should have been doing in class became very evident when you were in high school uh college probably all grades yes all right um competition number two get out to footballs okay so Danic has got a bar we have made you a paper football already because that would have taken too long period making these now you know what you gotta do with that you gotta I could have made this in about three seconds well you are good at this stuff oh yeah you said you did nothing during grade school but these are all the things for doing this you know what else they did those finger things where you did the little categories oh yeah like you said that I can guess hook you up with that was a girl three one two three I'll tell you your fortune G-R-E-E and Robbie can you uh you can set up wherever you'd like to set up and see if you can hit the the bowl so do you thump it or do you just is that what you do thump it you want to go in I mean this is I gotta watch this technique that doesn't make a lot of sense because I mean really you're kicking a fill goal you're not well I know but I didn't have I gotta watch this technique just hold your arms up yes hold your technique I need you to record John you hold your arms up and I'll kick it right over your head. Hopefully I didn't hit that you are gonna get this I'm gonna go right over your head here you just gotta make you got to make it up here we go are you ready?

SPEAKER_03

I am ready are you sure? I am sure boom own it tonight I'm embarrassed for myself I'm a 56 year old child and I can admit it I'm I don't even feel comfortable doing this.

SPEAKER_04

Mary come on this I'm very I'm very I'm not should um show me what way you held it that is way better than I ever did school I can tell you that I can have it right on my head right now Mr.

SPEAKER_07

Boo do you need to have goggles on? Probably maybe hold this over your face do it Mary again still waiting still waiting embarrassed it's okay it's okay this could where are you going to do yours?

SPEAKER_16

From right here this takes me back I want to give a shout out um Miss Tollison who is our director HR uh we were in school together and her husband was also in school with us we sat in maybe a Spanish II class at Ran High School and may have played this game across the room from the beginning of the class so I just want to shout out I want to shout out the Tollison family for that.

SPEAKER_03

How are you gonna get through all this stuff?

SPEAKER_16

I got you don't worry about that.

SPEAKER_03

That's one of the only Spanish he knows now is uh good or was it it was right it was right in good job.

SPEAKER_04

Then we have to do a quick second you gotta make the physical post smaller now oh make your I'm an alphabet there same thing as the other contest there's a little post right there on the wall I'll slide to the right I had no idea we would have all this distance on these things.

SPEAKER_07

Is Robbie gonna come home with the metal whenever you're right.

SPEAKER_17

He's concentrating that was a little wobbler not as strong as the first eye hit in the middle straight in the middle of it in the way on his way is one again wide left way further clips and versus uh FSU there wide left I I think he had an unfair advantage.

SPEAKER_07

I think the distance that that Adam had I know but his distance was much longer even though he likes challenges.

SPEAKER_04

I do but here's the thing in the last challenge are you going somewhere? No no no no okay sorry the last the last challenge we will double the score okay okay so anybody can win this whole thing and it is the paper toss. Even Mary you guys want to run out of marathon real fast? No I wouldn't be real fast I'll tell you that I guess you would all right now two hours where do we want to put the bucket have we not basically been tossing paper the whole time?

SPEAKER_07

Yes. Oh what's happening here?

SPEAKER_04

Oh that's a lot because we're gonna give them a minute one at a time I gotcha to uh to see how many they get in the bucket.

SPEAKER_07

Danica is this all you did all class?

SPEAKER_04

Yes very productive on social media about these are life skills what she was doing in our class today was making paper footballs and rolling up paper. Not rolling paper that sounds bad um sounds real crumbling up paper for the post-retirement activity. Alright so um you now you get to get it in the face because they're gonna throw Robbie how many can you make in a minute is what we're gonna do. So this like you know a minute to win it kind of thing.

SPEAKER_07

So um I'll count if uh we can do it right with the clock shows okay you do the clock.

SPEAKER_04

Alright tell me when you're ready are you set? Ready?

SPEAKER_15

I suppose where are you standing okay that's is that good you're gonna stay seated yeah okay okay um go it's not said yet one oh my goodness yeah I'm out of the way one so far she was moving she was moving cheating for her principal I don't know how I feel about this one just come on Robbie one two different weight in these things yeah I was telling them when they were making them they had to make them a specific way oh that was close still have two moving them over for you one at a time there that was one of the rules I forgot to say grabbed too many that time we got ten seconds six I think you missed one seven five four three yeah she's the best cheating for ten we're playing this moving this is under this is under protest she was moving the trash cans to help her principal look out all right get all those uh those up data merit you have a chance to get right back in this competition that's probably a fact I don't have a lot of athletic that's harder than it looks very talented I'll help you next year we'll add a running category just for you fast but I can run farther than most people all you'd have to do is run down the hall or you beat us.

SPEAKER_16

Nope can I if we do a running contest can I carry the AED with me as I run as I'll make sure maybe we should do the hall because we have one of them in the hall.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah put them between them maybe I'll pass them down to him if that's right.

SPEAKER_04

Alright all right this isn't looking that great on video because the video keeps switching but hey we're having fun oh I'm off the camera now all right now let's see all right Mary Alright Mary tell me when you're ready to go and I'll give you a three count. Ready three, two one go.

SPEAKER_06

One you're moving the bucket this isn't a catch three four I'm not doing it look five sorry about that six we moved it again seven wow you couldn't see this I'm not playing ten oh man we still got time too we got a second one Mr.

SPEAKER_04

Roach how many did you get I can't remember ten okay twelve this is just dumb luck thirteen but my six year old son would be very on the wide shot we can't see where the shots go and we just see papers flying what's my time check oh yeah 17 3 2 1 17 I think it was 17 yeah very impressive very impressive that was very impressive Danica helped achieve all on her own my arms were just she was in she knew I was outnumbered by the I don't want anything yet in my fence um eighteen to win and if he wins he'll tie Robbie for the uh the challenge lead and we'll have to we'll do a little playoff all right so I don't know Mary if he doesn't beat you you are tied for the lead so he's gotta get 17 that was a good performance study now stop moving it around this is all worth whether you're a good principal or not right three two one go oh south palm just get in the range one oh she's not helping him at all no it's unbelievable three four five six six in the zone yeah yes nine ten wow eleven he just keeps making them in a row too like five in a row halfway through twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen what's time change 17 we got 20 seconds 17 18 19 I'm at 19 now so okay save your 10 seconds left pop a shot 20 energy yeah he won this is like you know the uh the home run derby you gotta save your energy save some swings I'm already sweating it's not good and my shoulders sore so he won that that challenge and it was double score Bobby you could have wrapped it up but now you're in a playoff so now you're gonna change the rules at the end you know once I won the first two I thought I have this wrapped he said that he changed the rules changed the rules on you that's what happens are you a South Carolina senator neither thank goodness um okay Danica I want you to put the bucket against the wall and this time not to stand up and it'll only be a 30 second deal and it'll be Robbie against uh Dr. Lamford to see who wins the entire challenge and the movement out of so give them the put the balls in the middle there. So they both can get it. Mary that was a good showing by you but uh unfortunately not enough Lamford got in the zone.

SPEAKER_16

You know I've I played middle school baseball and got cut as a ninth grader if you can't tell by that ability to throw. So

SPEAKER_04

Coach Thomas, put it right against the wall. So the good thing about that, and you guys can stand up if you want to, but put it right against the wall in the middle. Oh, that's a good idea. Put it on top of that. Actually, we don't have any time.

SPEAKER_07

I think I would move, Mr. Boone. Yeah, I am gonna move.

SPEAKER_03

All right, so that's too close.

SPEAKER_04

It's a 30-second challenge for everything.

SPEAKER_07

This is for everything. This is this is the winner of the 2026 principal challenge.

SPEAKER_04

Yes. Lamford's made to come back just like he did the last time.

SPEAKER_07

No, Kyle, Kyle technically has lost.

SPEAKER_15

Dr. Whitfield is in last.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna let you me going in. I'll change another rule. And do you want to go first or second? Since you won two challenges, you can have the you if he goes first, you'll know the score you have to beat. Which is yeah, I want him to go first. Okay. All right. So uh Dr.

SPEAKER_07

Lambert, do you need to move or you're good? Uh, I mean, I doubt two monitors.

SPEAKER_16

I'm a personal space person, so I don't like getting other people's personal space. You're good. I just want to get you.

SPEAKER_03

All right, you ready? Ready? I'm ready. All right.

SPEAKER_04

Three, two, one, go.

SPEAKER_15

Uh oh.

SPEAKER_07

One. That one went one more left. Ah we go three.

SPEAKER_03

Halfway through it. Nice terrible.

SPEAKER_07

That one rolled off.

SPEAKER_16

That one should have gone in. That one should have two. This is unbelievable.

SPEAKER_04

Five. Four. Four. Three. Two. One.

SPEAKER_06

There we go.

SPEAKER_16

Alright, how many? Four. Oh, that was pretty good. Four. Set the bar high for you, Mr. Roach.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, you did.

SPEAKER_08

All right. He's moving right in front of it. You had like some obstacles here.

SPEAKER_15

Oh, I'm good.

SPEAKER_07

He had a personal space issue. Obviously, Mr. Roach does not. He's all up in there.

SPEAKER_03

I've got a personal space. Alright, Mr. Boone, I cannot see. Two, one, go.

SPEAKER_07

You gotta arch it.

SPEAKER_17

I feel good about it. I don't need any coaching.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, one. One two. He's on a roll. Three. Oh no. Come on.

SPEAKER_03

Four!

SPEAKER_04

Alright, he avenges last year's challenge loss to Lanford.

SPEAKER_16

Well done, Mr. Roach. Thank you for the first time.

SPEAKER_04

Wins in the playoff. Alright. Finally.

SPEAKER_17

It's become obvious that I don't do anything as a principal or as a student.

SPEAKER_04

Obviously, sitting in his office shooting little footballs, too, papers that do have a little basketball goal and golf clubs. I mean, all kinds of always.

SPEAKER_07

There you go.

SPEAKER_04

That's what we need to do next time. We need to get a little putting grain.

SPEAKER_07

Okay, we've got some down in engineering. We will pull out a putty brain. Y'all know what the challenge is going to be. Maybe some cornhole.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we need to be we need to have time to practice next time.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, well I'll make sure you know ahead of time. Listen to it. We need time to practice.

SPEAKER_17

Adam plays golf all over the world. He doesn't need to practice.

SPEAKER_07

Does he do that just in the summer or during the school year too?

SPEAKER_17

He goes all over the world year round. Year-round. Yeah, that's what Kyle was talking about. Typically on a private jet. Oh. It's not accurate. A private jet? I didn't say it was his jet. I just said it was a private jet.

SPEAKER_04

I didn't know District 1 had a jet.

SPEAKER_15

All right.

SPEAKER_04

We're wrapping things up now. What we always do with our guests is fun to do at the end is to get uh some recommendations that uh a lot of people have tried, a lot of times me. Um as far as entertainment and food. So uh let's go around whatever you uh are watching or binging or movie that you've seen that you really like that you can recommend or um a book, whatever it is. Um let's get your entertainment recommendations, Mr. Roach.

SPEAKER_17

I'm very disturbed by the latest movie I watched called Apex. I mean, I would suggest you watch it, maybe not with kids, because it was it was a little bit dark. It's a pretty good movie. Charlie Steron's like a um in extreme sports climbing and rafting and all you know dangerous stuff. And it just takes a really dark turn and uh it's kind of rough at the end there. No. But it was good. On another note, though, I would highly recommend if MJ the musical is ever here again that you go see that because my wife and I saw that, and I mean we talked about it for weeks. It was amazing.

SPEAKER_07

I love Michael Jackson, me too. It was that good.

SPEAKER_17

But Danico got to see that on our New York trip.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm planning to go see the movie soon. Yeah. Very cool, very cool. Um, entertainment.

SPEAKER_08

I'm on the other side of nothing that um was that life-changing. We went and saw Mario Galaxy, that was pretty amazing. There you go. Um both of the kids enjoyed it. No uh no, the movie. Oh, the movie Mario Galaxy. Um, we haven't gotten to go to the theme park yet. Um and that was pretty funny. My husband and I were both laughing out loud. The kids loved it, we liked it. It was really funny.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, all right.

SPEAKER_16

Dr. Lamford? Yes, I've got a three and a half year old and an eight-month-old. So we're really into Zootopia right now, the bunny movie. Um really into Cars 3. Um we really like uh Jackson's Storm. You know, really into some high-level stuff around the Lamford House. It's really been some good stuff. I remember that. So I'd highly recommend uh Cars 3, which is older, but but Zootopia 2 with the with the new bunny and so we're a big Zootopia fans as well. And I mean if you look at my recent Spotify list, Zoopia Zoo from the movie Zootopia 2 is probably my top-played song over the last three weeks because my three-year-old's like he gets in the car. Daddy played the zoo movie zoo song, and we jam out. Yeah, we jam out. So that's how we roll.

SPEAKER_04

That's awesome. Yeah, I love it. All right, Robbie. Um, food recommendation.

SPEAKER_17

Uh let's see. Well, what is the recent uh I I may have already recommended Limoncello downtown.

SPEAKER_08

We love that place. That's why we're not been there yet. That's good.

SPEAKER_17

It's an Italian place, downtown Greenville, kind of behind the Peace Center. It's fantastic.

SPEAKER_07

So what do you eat? What would you recommend to eat?

SPEAKER_17

You know, I I typically get one of the chicken dishes, but on Mondays they do margarita pizza for five dollars. Nice. And that is a deal.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_16

So it is a good deal.

SPEAKER_08

What about you, man? We get the pizza, we get the spaghetti, we get the baked mozzarella, but then they also have a whole entire gelato area, dessert area. The kids love it, we love it, it's really good.

SPEAKER_16

We we made a or we had a coral recently downtown Grainville. Shout out half my powderville student body works there. Um went out on Friday with some friends, and we don't again, three-year-old, eight-month-old, not a lot of eating out. Um so yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we've gotten a couple recommendations. Yeah, we have all right, all right.

SPEAKER_07

Mary.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah, you didn't give yours, you just kind of back up.

SPEAKER_08

I I we don't go out to eat very often. We like live in we're in the cycle of kids house sports every day of the week. So we're eating at um Chick-fil-A. That we eat a lot of food from the concession stand at at the youth ball fields. Um so yeah, I don't know that I have a lot of great recommendations right now. Okay, but both of theirs were really good. Both of theirs are really good. My husband loves a good chili cheese fry from any concession stand, he'll never say no.

SPEAKER_16

So that I respect.

SPEAKER_04

All right, well, uh thank you guys, all of you, for first off, what you do. Um we obviously see your kids uh every day from your schools, and um they most all the time have good things to say about their principles. They do. Um and uh again, I appreciate it from a teacher's perspective all the things that that you do in running your schools. So thank you very much. And thanks for just coming in, giving this update, having a little fun to close out the school year. Really appreciate you doing that. So again, thanks to Dr. Kyle Whitfield, who was here earlier on the phone. Um Robbie Roach from Palmetto, Dr. Adam Lamford from Powderville, and Mary Borch from BHP, the best around. Um, next week we have no show. In fact, we have no show until September 1st.

SPEAKER_07

That's right, season six on a wrap.

SPEAKER_04

This is this is it. Um, but you can catch any of the shows as a podcast. They're on Spotify, Apple, wherever you get your podcast, and of course on YouTube. And remember, if you're listening, you want to sponsor, you want to be a guest next year, um, just email me, JBoon at mypulse radio.com, for more information. And uh, if you are a sponsor of the show, remember all the money that you spend to sponsor us goes right back to the kids so they can take their field trips. 100%. Oh, yeah. Thank you. All right, one last announcement is our winner of the guest of the year in April Anarchy is Tanya Dickerson. Oh, one of our instructors. Now, this year, I admit this year we got started late, and so a lot of it was centered around ACTC. But next year, even this show, will be included in the brackets for uh guest of the year, and we'll have some nice prizes to give away. This year, Tanya gets a$50 gas card, QT card.

SPEAKER_07

That's awesome.

SPEAKER_04

So she can get food or gas, whatever you want she wants. And uh the winning bracket. We had a tie. Oh so Holly, choose one. And who won the bracket? That shows Guthrie. Travis Guthrie. Congratulations to him from Student Services. Uh, he wins um a$50 gas card as well. So it's a fun little competition. And again, you guys will be seeing your faces when we do the brackets next year, and we'll seed you according to how many streams you have and all that. It's just a fun little thing we do uh for the guest of the year. So, again, thanks everybody for listening and thank you for your time. All these principals here who have to cut out time to drive here, do the show, drive back, and Kyle for doing a little bit of that. Um, we appreciate appreciate your time, and it's been a fun year, right, Holly?

SPEAKER_07

It has, it's been a great year. We appreciate you guys, we really do. Thank you, thank you. We appreciate you guys.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, well, thank you. We're appreciating everybody. There you go. Appreciate you, Danica. Yeah, good luck next year. She's going to full sale in Orlando. Good for you. Yeah. All right. See ya everybody. We'll talk to you again in September.
