SPEAKER_01

Thank you for tuning in to part two of Torture Terrors.

SPEAKER_02

Before we get into Scotty's segment, we want to pause one more time to give one more warning.

SPEAKER_05

This story is severely triggering.

SPEAKER_02

It contains very explicit and graphic content involving rape, molestation, torture, and extreme violence.

SPEAKER_05

If you are uncomfortable with any of these topics mentioned, please wait until next week's episode under the influence.

SPEAKER_02

We promised not to skim the talk, and we promised not to censor the details.

SPEAKER_05

We are holding true to this promise.

SPEAKER_02

This is real. This is rough. This case is brutal. Prepare yourself.

SPEAKER_00

As he raised Lois into the air, Jeffrey would yell at her and taunt her, repeatedly rubbing her nude body and fingering her. He would call her bitch, slut, and cunt. No one had ever called her those names before. Jeffrey began torturing her and assaulting her. First, he inserted something hard and pointed into her rectum. And Lois said it had to have been at least eight inches long. And he did something to make it start vibrating and moving around. So being the church-going woman she is, I don't think she knew what even a dildo was, but I mean, speculated. He inserted into her rectum.

SPEAKER_05

Then chain smoking. Is he wondering what I'm looking like? I'm chain smoking and shaking.

SPEAKER_00

So then he started hitting her. First, he used a small black whip with red tassels at the end. So like I'm assuming like some sort of like kind of like BDSM type whip thing. Then he switched to a longer bull whip. So like a bull whip, like what Indiana Jones and like fucking catwoman use. At some point, he used the end of a fishing pole. Oh my god. Oh my god. It's reported that he hit her everywhere, from her neck and throat to her feet and ankles and everywhere in between. He focused on her breast the most because that is what he discovered hurt the most and caused her to scream the loudest. What the fuck, Scotty? This is crazy. After the fishing, I know, and I had never heard of it until I watched Your Worst Nightmare on Hulu. Yeah. And they This is literally your worst fucking nightmare. It's literally like I would I would just be like, can you please just shoot me in the fucking face? Like at this point. Um after the fishing pole, he finished by shocking her repeatedly with an electric cattle prod.

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_00

During all this, Lois would scream out in pain and scream for help. Um, but Jeffrey lived literally in the middle of nowhere. Um, his closest neighbors were like five miles away. Um, he told her again that when he was through with her, she would not believe in God. She was on that deer skinning hoist enduring all of that for about three hours. Uh, when he finally lowered her to the ground, she could barely stand. However, he forced her to walk to the house with the electric cattle prod. Uh, Jeffrey walked her into the bathroom and told her to clean up. For the first time, she got a glimpse of herself in the mirror and got a glimpse of the bruises that were forming all over her body. Uh, her right eye was completely swollen shut. Um, he gave her some of his jeans to wear. They were enormous on her and they smelled like him. That night he took her into the bedroom. Uh, he chained her ankles to the bed, turned off all the lights, and took off her clothes. He began rubbing and licking between her legs. Lois had Lois had never even talked to her parents about sex. Like she had never taken a sex ed class. She was a 62-year-old virgin. She had no idea what he was doing to her. Um, but she did say it hurt. Uh, when she winced in pain and asked him to stop, he said, How would you like to go into the barn and get hung upside down on the device? She tried she tried to not make a sound after that. Uh, she was raped, sodomized, and molested for about half the night. And when he was done, he laid down next to her and cuddled with her. Go fuck yourself. Lois didn't sleep at all that night. Uh, every time she would turn to look in his direction, she would see his wide owl-like eyes peering at her through the darkness.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_00

It was her first night away from home in more than 40 years, and her first sexual encounter in her entire life.

SPEAKER_01

To say in her first night with a man.

SPEAKER_00

God, this is just like she'd never even kissed a guy. Like ever. The next morning, Jeffrey told her he had to go into town and started walking her back to the old barn. When they reached the inside of the barn, he said, I made something just for you. He then showed her a homemade wooden box on the floor of the barn. It looked like a coffin. She noticed the wood looked and smelled new. He shackled her wrists and told her to lie down in the box. Lois pleaded with Jeffrey to not put her in the box, and he told her, You can pick. You can go into the box or you can be lifted back onto the deer skinning machine. Her decision was instant, um, because she would have done anything to avoid going back up on the fucking machine. So she essentially picked the unknown and went into the box. When she asked Jeffrey where he was going, he stated he had unfinished business. He put a metal gag ring thing in her mouth to gag her and then strapped the like the back of the belt buckle strap behind her head. She laid down into the box and he put the lid over her, surrounding her in darkness. She then felt him slide the box several f several feet, and then she heard him leave. She waited for a few seconds, and after she heard the engine start outside to make sure the car was gone, she then tried to push open this homemade coffin as hard as she could.

SPEAKER_06

She pushed How does this poor thing have any energy?

SPEAKER_00

She's already 62 years old. She's, yeah. Um, as hard as she could, she pushed and kicked the lid of the coffin. Um, her knees were black from the bruising of just trying to get this lid off of this coffin. Um, she couldn't do anything more than lift the coffin lid, uh, the coffin lid a tiny bit. Um, she didn't know that he had moved the several feet that she felt. He had actually moved the box under a heavy workbench. So the lid to the coffin was just like banging against the bottom of this workbench. So like she couldn't even she couldn't even get her like pinky through like the gap of the lid in the coffin.

SPEAKER_01

Like the methodicalness of all this, I mean he had planned it for six years.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, it was okay. Like he must have been spending that six years like planning how am I gonna do this.

SPEAKER_01

How for just getting turned down and rejected by a woman would instill six years of six years psychotic fucking methodical planning. Oh my god, there are men out there like this, and it's terrifying. Okay, I'm sorry, keeping it.

SPEAKER_06

Well, and it's shit like this that like makes women feel like they need to be nice to men because it's like you know, like you don't fucking know what they're gonna do.

SPEAKER_00

Can't be mean. Smile, smile, beautiful. Shut the fuck up. Like have a penis, and I hate men. She stayed in the box for what she later described as possibly six hours, uh, praying the entire time. Suddenly she heard the bar the door to the barn slide open, and she immediately began pounding on the box and screaming for help. She felt the box slide against the floor and the lid come off, and she saw Jeffrey. And he said, Boy, oh boy, do I have quite the surprise for you.

SPEAKER_03

It's the worst.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. He escorted her back into the house and chained her to the bed again and gagged her with the same metal ring. He raped her again, and that night, her body exhausted, she finally slept for a few hours. The next morning, he yelled at her for wetting the bed. Um he mocked her and made fun of her for it, but at the same time, he was also like not allowing her to use the bathroom.

SPEAKER_05

Like she would say, when were she supposed to be fine?

SPEAKER_00

Like he would give her anywhere from like one to two bathroom breaks a day, but he would stand in the bathroom like with her, like right in front of the toilet. So, like almost like when like a parole officer is watching you, and like this is the same like a piss test. It's the same woman who's never even been naked in front of a doctor. Like, yeah, she's like never been naked, she's never been naked in front of a doctor, and yet she's supposed to piss in front of this guy. So yeah. Um, so he yelled at her for wetting the bed, mocked her, made fun of her for it, and then violently removed the metal gag ring. Um, and Lois had later realized that it actually cracked the front of her teeth when he did that. So now we're on day three. So she's endured this for about three days now. Jeffrey told Lois, Remember when I said I had a surprise for you?

SPEAKER_07

Oh God.

SPEAKER_00

He then escorted her to the living room and sat her on the couch. Jeffrey clicked on the TV and started the nightly news on his DVR. He looked at Lois, started chuckling, and said, Watch this. The news started out with reporting a house fire in Weatherford, Texas.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god, he burned her phone in House Island.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. As Lois watched the news segment, she realized it was her home that was on fire.

SPEAKER_01

What the fuck? Oh my god. The things that must be going through her head at this point now, thinking that he's probably trying to stage her death.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And like this is the same home. Like, she's born in this home. She really lives to where she lived in this home with her parents.

SPEAKER_05

She the absolute fucking we've heard fucked up before, but not to this extent.

SPEAKER_00

This is like pure fucking horror. Um, as Lois watched the news segment, she realized it was her home that was on fire. Her entire house was completely destroyed and nothing was salvaged.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

Lois fell off the couch.

SPEAKER_04

What about her cats?

SPEAKER_00

Lois fell off the couch and started crying hysterically, asking Jeffrey why. Jeffrey began laughing at her and said, Oh, Lois, you don't need that house anymore. You live here with me now.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my god. This sounds like a fucking horror movie.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, but definitely like typing typing that line, I was like, this could be said by like the jigsaw killer.

SPEAKER_01

This is some bloom house actually happened.

SPEAKER_00

However, as fucking awful and terrible and tragic as it is, burning down the home would lead eventually to Jeffree's demise.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, thank God.

SPEAKER_00

Um firefighters sifted through the ashes of her home expecting to find human remains. And when they didn't, that is when everyone finally knew Lois Pearson is a missing person. Oh, thank god. Like she lived such an independent life. No one knew she was missing for three days. Like of course not. So, like people were like, I mean, we go months without seeing her. So I mean, yeah. Um, so now she's a missing person. Um, she's now has her photo all over the news. People are looking for her, all the stuff. Um, so the next several days, Parker County authorities hung up flyers, billboards. They were even just like approaching because it was such a small town. They were even just like walking around, approaching people in parks and on the street, like passing out flyers, like looking for Lois. Um, they had no idea she was abducted and taken over a hundred miles away. Over the next week, Jeffrey and Lois fell into a routine. He would sexually assault her in the morning. She would spend the rest of the day praying. She had a regular prayer that she recited about every 10 minutes. Please, God, don't let Jeff kill me.

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_00

She'd say it again. God forgetting. Yeah, she would say it again and again. She would say it about every 10 minutes. Um, sometimes in her head, sometimes out loud. Um, as the routine went on, she noticed that he seemed less angry at her. And although the sexual assaults were still happening, happening, the physical and like violent assaults had kind of stopped at this point. He would smile at her as he would make her breakfast. And she said that that was one of the worst parts. Believe it or not. Because, like, yeah, it's it's it goes to what Brittany was saying, like about like psychological torture. Like, it's like, oh, cool. This guy that just whacked me to death on a fucking deer skinning device for three hours is now smiling at me like I'm his best fucking friend. Yeah, while he sleeps like a goddamn baby while I'm gross. Um, he began to trust her more. He kept her chained less and less around the house. One day she noticed that he left his cell phone in the bathroom. She thought about picking it up and using it to call for help, but she had never used a cell phone before.

SPEAKER_04

Oh gosh.

SPEAKER_00

She worried she would do something wrong and make it make noise, and he would hear, and not only would he stop trusting her, but she was she was also no, she was afraid that he'd put her back on the deer skinning device. Like she wasn't even afraid of death, she was afraid of that fucking three hours of and all the while her shoulders are still dislocated dildo fishing pole. Yeah, like she was terrified of that. So she left the cell phone alone. She she didn't touch the cell phone. Lois eventually asked Jeffrey if he had a Bible and he brought out an old one um and threw it at the back of her head for her to read. Oh my god. Yeah, that's right. Like, yeah, I have one. Here you go. Like, don't hand it to me like I'm a fucking human being. Like the fact that this man even has a Bible in his house blows when it comes to a little bit after so it doesn't surprise me. On day 11, so we're now 11 days into this hell, he brought Lois her purse from the closet, and he said, Look at what I grabbed for you right before I burned your house down.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, how sweet.

SPEAKER_00

Oh gee, thanks. Right. Uh, he demanded she write him a check for$500. He said, He said, It's expensive keeping you alive, and I'm and I need money.

SPEAKER_05

Fuck you. Fuck you.

SPEAKER_00

He told her to date it for February 2nd. We're in we're in March. Um, and so this is before her disappearance. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So he wouldn't get back for exactly pre-dated. So that way You sick methodical fuck.

SPEAKER_00

So he told her to date it February 2nd, so it was more than a month earlier. He said to write on the memo line, thanks for the loan, Jeff. And science.

SPEAKER_06

This is so thought out.

SPEAKER_00

It's like I mean, he had six years, so yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god. Like she just borrowed his fucking tra don't borrow anybody's tractors, you guys. This is bullshit, are we?

SPEAKER_00

Rent it.

SPEAKER_05

I don't care how much.

SPEAKER_00

Go to Home Depot where they have all your wood chippers and tractors and all your existential needs.

SPEAKER_03

Fucking wood chipper, bitch. Oh my God. Do not just your nice neighbor, they're not nice. Everybody is your enemy. Don't trust anybody.

SPEAKER_00

So from now on, when when people honk past me and Gavin's house, we're just gonna lock the fucking door and be like, nope. Okay. Um, so he chained her to the bed and he went out that afternoon and cashed the check. Back in Parker County, Lois's bank contacted authorities. Thank God. And informed them that a$500 check just cleared from Lois' account. Thank God.

unknown

Oh, God.

SPEAKER_00

When authorities asked who cashed this check, the authorities became unsettled when they heard the name Jeffrey Maxwell.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, you dumb motherfucker. You thought that shit would just slide.

SPEAKER_00

Because the police were very familiar with Jeffrey and all of his 900 escapes. Um, because of all of his prior discrepancies, um, authorities be then began the hunt for Jeffrey's location. On Saturday, March 12th, 12 days after being abducted, Jeffrey asked Lois, Do you forgive me for everything I've done to you?

SPEAKER_05

Oh is that a question?

SPEAKER_00

Lois said, I have to, because if you don't forgive others, God can't forgive you.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, baby. She's so sweet.

SPEAKER_00

She's sweet. I'm like, after all of all of that, after all of that, she's still has the faith faith, religion, mentality. Yeah. Jeffrey talked to her some more and discussed with her and tried to like confide in her on finding a way out of all of this. So, like, how do we make this to where like the past 12 days have never happened? Like, how can we just continue with it?

SPEAKER_05

You live, girl. But I don't want to go down.

SPEAKER_00

Basically, the Martha, it goes back to Martha Martinez. Like, yeah, I slit your throat, but like, how can we keep moving on? Like, you know, type thing. Um this behind us. Yeah, yeah. Um, he wondered if maybe they could get married.

SPEAKER_05

Um, yeah, that's the right idea. I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_00

What? Well, he said if we get married, for one, we could live happily together. Oh yeah. And for two, if she if he was ever prosecuted on these charges, she wouldn't be allowed to testify against him because you can't testify against a spouse.

SPEAKER_05

And is that just in certain cases though?

SPEAKER_00

Because I just watched a 48-hour I don't know if it's maybe a Texas I I didn't look into that, but I don't know if that's maybe like a Texas thing or if it is a nation thing. I don't I don't know.

SPEAKER_05

I was just watching this uh 48 hours, and this girl lied on the stand after this man burnt their house down and killed their three-year-old daughter and one-year-old twins. And she testified and was like, He's a great dad, there's no way.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, I don't know. I'm sorry, I didn't look into that. But if you know, annoy annoy Susie, Gavin, and Britney was a delusion in his head. Or yeah, I mean, or he could have just heard it somewhere, yeah. She asked him, you could always just let me go, and I won't tell anybody.

SPEAKER_04

Please.

SPEAKER_00

Um please. He told her I can't let you go um because of your bruises and your swelling. You would gossip about it. She promised him she wouldn't. Um, and for a good while, Lois would describe Jeffrey as changing and starting to become nice, but then it wasn't long before he would go back to mocking her in a baby voice and making fun of her for praying.

SPEAKER_01

Um that's the sick of shit.

SPEAKER_00

He would ask her sarcastically, how's the praying going? And then say, It must not be working since you're still here with me. Um, he laughed at her as she sat on the floor reading the Bible. Um, he sometimes would kick the Bible out of her hands um just for fun. Yeah, like you know. Um so it was actually one afternoon um that she was praying on the living room floor and he was watching TV when they heard a firm knock at the front door.

SPEAKER_06

Yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

He stood up, grabbed his gun, and quickly walked her into the back bedroom. He told her to stay quiet. Before he could cuff or gag her, they heard another firm knock. He said, If you make a sound, I will kill whoever is at the door and then come back here and kill you. He went to aunt he went to answer the door, and she heard him step out and close the door behind him. She could hear their voices outside, but she couldn't make out what they were saying or who was even at the door. She was for a brief moment, she was almost f fearing like it was like an accomplice, like a second guy who like wants in on all this, and he was gonna like paranoid. And he was gonna like share her. Yeah. Like at that point, you're just thinking everybody's about to get you like small phones. This is yeah, pretty much. So uh she crept out, she sneakily crept out of the bedroom and over to a window at the front of the house. Um, it was about 6 p.m., so there was still enough light to see the sheriff vehicles parked in the driveway. However, she contemplated what to do because she didn't want. Cause a scene and have a police officer murdered because of her and her actions.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, sweet baby. I would have been like, hey, hi, hi.

SPEAKER_00

Right. And like, and she she considered that, but at the same time, he said, I'll kill whoever's at the fucking door. So, like, this innocent police officer gets shot in the head if she makes the fucking scenes. She's she's a woman of God. So Jeffrey Maxwell is uh talking to the police. Um, he tells the police officers that his house is a mess, and so he steps outside and closes the door behind him and chats with them on the front porch. Uh Sergeant Ricky Montgomery and four other investigators had come to his modest modular house in Corsicana with questions about missing 62-year-old Lois Pearson. Jeffrey told Lois that she was his neighbor about six years ago, and he hasn't seen her since then. Police asked him if they still contacted each other, and Jeffrey told them, Well, yeah, last month she mailed me a check because she owes me some money.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, just a good neighbor. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, Sergeant Montgomery asked Jeffrey, you know, what does she owe you money for? And he immediately said, Oh, I let her borrow my tractor six years ago. No, not and fuck that tractor. And she's she she owes me money from that. And$500. She owes me$500 for using your tractor for a day. Um so at that point, Sergeant Montgomery starts to notice that like Jeffrey's fidgety, he's looking down, he's looking up, he's looking away, he's not making eye contact, he's like playing with his hair, like his body language is like profusely. Yeah. So Sergeant Montgomery said, you know, would you be willing to come down to the sheriff's office? Um, we we want to talk to you, you know, a little bit more privately and uh intimately one-on-one. Jeffrey's front door swung open and they heard the high-pitched voice of an older woman yelling, I'm here.

unknown

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_00

The woman was frail, hunched over, her unwashed hair and knots, her face covered with bruises, dried blood, and scars. She limped quickly past Jeffrey and ran towards the police officers. Even though Sergeant Montgomery was carrying a picture of Lois Pearson, she was so covered in so much bruises, swelling, and scarring that he didn't even recognize her and asked her, Who are you? She replied, I'm Lois Pearson, and Jeffrey Maxwell did this to me. Officer Bradford then pushed Jeffrey against the wall and put him in handcuffs. Even as Jeffrey cried out, he hadn't done anything wrong and she had done all that to herself.

SPEAKER_05

Oh.

SPEAKER_06

I'm sorry, what?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Fuck right off. Like, she's, I mean, she's unrecognizable, and he's like, oh, she did that to herself. Like, no.

SPEAKER_06

Piece of fucking trash.

SPEAKER_00

The officers then entered the home and found an assortment of chains, locks, and bloody sex toys. They found handcuffs and shackles next to an open jar of peanut butter and a loaded pistol, and something in the barn that they called a homemade coffin and a homemade deer skinning device.

SPEAKER_06

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_00

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler told the media, in all my years of law enforcement, I've never seen anything like this. This is a house of horrors. Dried blood was in almost every room. And they also found the whips, the cuffs, three three guns, four bloody sex toys of various sizes, and wads of duct tape all over the place. Police also found two tall file cabinets filled with bondage porn, filled with bondage movies, bondage books, and bondage magazines. And I just want to state like if you have a thing bondage, like cool. Like, fuck, do it.

SPEAKER_05

Well, just like last week, I mean, there's a certain few out there that run it for the rest.

SPEAKER_00

BDSM is a thing, and some people dig it, but this is a potential way you do it.

SPEAKER_04

Consent is a thing. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, the dresser in the bedroom was also filled with porn. Um, so was the nightstand, and so was the top shelf in the bedroom closet. Slave, yeah, right. Like the the the internet was around. Well, Pornhub. Well, yeah, maybe not Pornhub. Internet, yeah. Pornhub was nothing yet. But like, I think our mine was like manmex.com or something. Okay, Gabby. So um Sheriff Fowler told reporters, there's no doubt in my mind he was eventually going to kill her. Uh, he didn't have any other options. If our men showed up a day later, who knows what we would have found. Over three days of interrogation, Jeffrey admitted to almost everything. Jeffrey had told authorities, I got myself into something I couldn't figure out how to get out of. I just loved Lois so much.

SPEAKER_05

If enough love, then I don't want it.

SPEAKER_00

Oh shit. Yeah, fuck. Like, no thanks. Like, my boyfriend's loving me just fine. I don't want this love. Um, he also told authorities that he has rape fantasies and wants to fulfill them. However, he still pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, which were aggravated kidnapping and two counts of aggravated sexual assault.

SPEAKER_05

No torture? Nope, no torture.

SPEAKER_00

Nope, no counter. I'm sorry, those are the only charges that he got. Only charges he got was aggravated kidnapping and two counts of aggravated sexual assault. That's it.

SPEAKER_05

I just fucking hate the justice system. That's it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um, the trial started on February 14th, 2012. Uh, so like six years after all of this happened. Or no, I'm sorry, my math's wrong. I can't math like the rest of you. We full every episode. I am I am not a mean girls math lead by any fucking means. Um so uh even though the sexual assaults took place in Nevero County, the abduction occurred in Parker County. So the trial was held in Weatherford with Judge Trey E. Lofton presiding. In the months between his arrest and his trial, Jeffrey had lost more than 60 pounds and shaved his sideburns, so he now appeared lanky and like a ghostly figure in an oversized suit. In front of a jury of six men and six women, prosecutors Jeff Swain and Kathleen Catania laid out the case. Sergeant Montgomery and Ranger Bradford took the stand, along with several other investigators. The jury watched as prosecutors played the body cam tape of Lois bursting free from Jeffrey's house. Oh my god. And watched the DVDs of Jeffrey's confession. The state of Texas submitted more than 100 pieces of evidence. The coffin, the deer skinning machine, the shackles, and the guns all sat just feet from the jurors for most of the five days of testimony. Oh yeah, like everything.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, over 100 pieces in person.

SPEAKER_00

Over a hundred pieces. So like these jurors were just sitting feet from bloody sex toys and the deer skinning machine that they like brought into the courtroom. Well, I don't know if they actually like brought it into the courtroom or if it was just a photo that like um jurors heard from doctors and nurses that treated Lois afterwards. Um, and they said the extent of her injuries were some of the most severe that they've ever seen. Um, they also heard from DNA experts. They also heard from Lois Pearson herself when she took the stand.

SPEAKER_07

Oh my God.

SPEAKER_00

So this actually took a lot for Lois. Um, she has always been shy around crowds and people, obviously. Um, yeah. She can't even play the piano at church until everyone's leaving. Um, but she stood bravely before the court, uh, swore on the Bible to tell the truth, and she proceeded to describe everything in graphic and horrific detail. Like she did not skim the top.

SPEAKER_04

Is this how that how you got all of these details? Yes. Was from the court document?

SPEAKER_00

From the court documents and like from like actual interviews she's done with like uh journalists and stuff. And yeah, so most of everything I'm reporting to are her exact words. That's how she knew because she's oh my god, she's alive. She's alive, she's alive. So um, so she described everything in graphic and horrific detail. Um, they even heard from the woman Jeffrey raped two days before his wedding over 20 years ago. They heard from two of his first wife, Rita's daughters, who described how being molested all those years ago has affected them gravely. They also heard from a detective who in the 80s became convinced that Jeffrey wanted to live out a fantasy that involved keeping a woman as a prisoner under his total control. Lois took the stand several times, one time to talk about the pain she was still suffering more than a year afterwards. She described her fractured shoulder and the ligament damage in her fingers from the barbed wire. She explained that she can no longer haul water from her well. She also talked about the three cats that died in the house fire. The three cats that died in the house fire, Bluey, Blackie, and Bluey's kitten, which she hadn't got the chance to name yet.

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

The worst part of everything she said was that she had always believed that by remaining a virgin for all of eternity, she would receive her reward in heaven, and he took that from her. She said she tries not to think about those dark days. Her life is slowly getting back to normal, and she feels like the mere fact that she's alive is a miracle, and through her prayer to Jesus Christ. They took the jury less than an hour to give him three life sentences. The judge stacked two of the sentences, meaning that at the absolute earliest Jeffrey could be eligible for parole is when he's 119 years old.

SPEAKER_05

Good, you fucking asshole.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. When the proceedings were over, the crowded room watched as sheriff's deputies put cap put cuffs on Maxwell's wrists and ankles. Lois was apprehensive about testifying, but told reporters that she wanted her story to be known. She said she wants people to know that her faith in God is what carried her through the worst times of her life.

SPEAKER_04

She made it.

SPEAKER_00

After her 12 days with Jeffrey Maxwell, Lois was left with only memories of her previous life. He took so much. It wasn't just the house or her clothes or the car she loved that also burned in the fire, but all of her earthly possessions. Her old manual typewriter, her piano, all of her mother's sheet music, shelves of photo albums. She also no longer even owns a photo of her father. She struggles with forgiveness, but she goes to weekly counseling sessions and has said, I don't want to miss out on heaven because of that man. So I have to forgive him. Lois is now 71 years old and has slowly begun rebuilding her life. Her church raised more than$17,000 for her to buy a small trailer for her property. The church even gave her a brand new piano. A neighbor put in her septic tank. She doesn't have a car yet, but she does have a new cell phone and she gets rides from her friends and is now adjusting to having a social life as she now feels comfortable being around people and interacting with people. These days she gets calls from church friends all the time. She chats with her neighbors nearly every day. People are always stopping by to check on her or to bring her food or small presents. So that's Jeffrey Maxwell Mo Spearson, guys, and he's a fucking asshole. And that's my case, and all of you are crying, and I'm so sorry. I didn't come here to make you guys cry, I swear. And then I also do have one final tidbit, if y'all can handle it. Is it bad? Well so um Jesus Christ. Years later, police asked him if he had done anything that might have resulted in his second wife, Martha's disappearance and death. All Jeffrey said was not intentionally. And he didn't say anything else. Is he still alive? Uh he is still alive. He's 60 something years old. He's eligible for parole when he's 119.

SPEAKER_05

So you fucking sick fuck. I've never wanted to torture somebody in my entire life, but now you don't.

SPEAKER_00

I'm sorry, and I hope you've invited me back for more episodes. I would love to come back and not make you guys cry. Oh. I think we should change the subject for next week. Something like stupid crimes.

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_00

You gave that story some justice. Yeah, I had never heard of it. Like you would think something like that would be everywhere.

SPEAKER_04

SPEAKER_01

It's the most horrific thing I've ever heard in my entire life.

SPEAKER_00
