From Engines to Community: How Dakota Territory Car Club Transforms Bowman
When a small town decides to dream big, extraordinary things happen. The Dakota Territory Car Club's annual car show and auction in Bowman, North Dakota proves that community spirit combined with passion can create something magical that brings people together from hundreds of miles away.
What makes this event remarkable isn't just the 300+ meticulously maintained classics lining Main Street (though they're certainly impressive). It's the deliberate commitment to keeping everything accessible to everyone. Unlike most events of this caliber, everything here is completely free—from the professional concerts featuring tribute bands like 60s Mania and the East Coast's premier Bon Jovi tribute act, to the axe throwing station, bouncy houses, and kids' activities. The only things you'll pay for are food from the diverse vendors and any beverages you might want.
Behind this generosity stands a car club with 46 years of history and a dedication to service that extends far beyond vehicles. Throughout the year, these same members organize benefits for neighbors facing medical challenges, help neighboring towns with their events, and volunteer wherever needed. As Ryan Shear explained, "We're not just your average car club. We try to be more community oriented." This spirit attracts sponsors from across the tri-state area and as far away as Chicago, all eager to support an event that brings such joy to so many.
The Paul Mossberger Memorial Best of Show Award exemplifies this community-centered approach—honoring a beloved local resident known for always being the first to help others, with his brothers selecting each year's winning vehicle. The winning car then becomes immortalized on the following year's event t-shirts, keeping Paul's memory alive in a uniquely meaningful way.
Whether you're a car enthusiast, a family looking for affordable entertainment, or someone who simply believes in the power of community, mark your calendar for next year's event. Where else can you experience world-class cars, free concerts, and the warmth of genuine small-town hospitality all in one unforgettable day?

Ryan, can you talk?
Speaker 2:for a second. Can you hear me.
Speaker 1:I can hear you now, yeah. Okay, now I got so much feedback, so how do we? We've done this before, with one of them muted, I thought.
Speaker 2:Okay, mute yours, Ryan.
Speaker 1:You'll have to speak up. Okay, start talking.
Speaker 2:Can you hear me, Ryan?
Speaker 1:Can you hear me? Can you hear me Ryan? Can you hear me? Can you hear Ryan?
Speaker 2:Say something again, ryan, can you hear me? Yeah, you're kind of low, that's all.
Speaker 1:No, he's got a wimpy voice. We'll get him to speak louder. Okay, as long as he's talking in your microphone, I can hear him. Okay, yeah, louder. Okay, as long as he's talking on your microphone, I can hear him. Okay, okay. I'm just wondering would it be best if we just use my computer? And he sat next to me?
Speaker 2:or are you all?
Speaker 1:right with him on that side.
Speaker 2:Will that work or not?
Speaker 1:Can you guys both fit in the screen.
Speaker 3:Well, jim's pretty big.
Speaker 1:That'd be a problem, ryan, come over here, just stand here a minute.
Speaker 2:Probably not, probably not.
Speaker 1:Probably not.
Speaker 2:Okay, yeah, no, well, yeah, as long as he he, I mean he can sit in front of his computer, but he'll just have to talk up a bit.
Speaker 1:You want to turn around? Sit right here, yeah, and then he'll. He'll keep it muted, but he'll be right next to my computer. He's just going to move into a different spot. Okay, make sure we got All right, try it out, ryan.
Speaker 2:Go ahead, ryan. Can you hear me? Tess? Yep, I can hear you.
Speaker 1:Okay, that'll work good. Okay, kevin, you ready with the timer.
Speaker 3:Yes 1145.
Speaker 1:What'd you say? Mo 1145. Yep, 1145. He's going to give me one minute and then I'll go into our commercials that we have. Okay, perfect, I'll be a little bit better than last time. Awesome, all right, I'm going to hop off, jim, it's on you, okay, okay, okay, three, two, one.
Speaker 1:Welcome to America's Land Auctioneer. I'm Jim Sabby, your host for this weekend, and it is a beautiful Saturday morning out in southwest North Dakota. Today we're going to talk auctions, car shows and a lot of cars with the guys from Dakota Territory Car Club. I got Ryan Shearer and Kevin Hilton with me here today. But again, we want to talk about our upcoming sale.
Speaker 1:This morning at 11 o'clock, pipers will have a car sale in Bowman and our car show starts at 10 o'clock. We're going to have a lot of vehicles. There's cars lined up to get registered, but last year I believe we had over 300 cars in a car show at Main Street Full. Everything is going to be rocking in Bowman, north Dakota today. Come on down if you've got a chance. The car show goes until 4. And we've got a lot of vendors on Main Street and we're going to have Ryan talk about that here in a little bit.
Speaker 1:But you know. Good morning Ryan. I'm glad you could come out to Piper's here this morning. Everybody else is down working on Main Street, but we gave you guys a break to come up here and get this radio show going. So good morning. And Kevin Hilton, good morning to you. But let's talk about what is happening. And well, first of all let's talk about how did we come up with this car show and this car auction. You know, we've had the car show, I think for 30 some years here in Bowman and now we had a kind of new regime come in and a bunch of younger guys, and so everybody had this grand plan and last year was our first year. So tell us about last year and then how we got into doing this and hopefully an annual basis.
Speaker 2:Well, yeah, like I said, this is year number two, so last year went amazing. We had about 305 cars in the show itself. I think Pfeiffer's had 35 cars that they sold in the auction. It kind of came around. We just our first show after we took over the club was big and we always had it in the city park and it just overflowed the whole city park for us. So then we've moved on. We figured well, we need something bigger and then we took over main street last year and it was super successful.
Speaker 1:And when you say took over main street. It was from highway 12 all the way north um to the end of main street and that's along main street folks, and then we had a lot of people here. But I go ahead.
Speaker 2:I just wanted to emphasize it was along main street and it was modeled after a lot of the other bigger shows they do around and it just it was so successful and everyone loved it. I think it was a great change.
Speaker 1:You know, when we were all sitting around thinking how can we do this? How can we bring people? Our main goal is we want people to come to Bowman, north Dakota, southwest North Dakota, and enjoy themselves. Car shows bring a lot of people, you know. We had them from the Black Hills and out of Miles City and Glendive and they come from all the way around. But we wanted to be able to do something for the community and with the car show and all the hotels being full and all the places to eat here that we have on Main Street the big thing we always talked about we'd like to provide some great music at the end of the show and last year you brought in a band that played down in Cool Deadwood Nights and they were unbelievable. I mean, I've got a daughter that's 26, that's getting married. Her and her fiance. They wanted this band for their wedding and I said, well, can't quite afford that one, but they were good. I mean, all ages like this band yep, they did so.
Speaker 2:That's 60s mania and we actually invited them back this year, so they will be playing tonight after the show. Um, they're amazing. Like I said, all ages loved it. Last year there was all ages up there just dancing in front of the stage and it was.
Speaker 1:It was amazing you know, and and we thought we'd, uh, we'd try this for for one year, and we decided, you know, let's bring in two bands. Um, we've got some great sponsors that you know I'm sure you're going to talk about here after a little while, but some great sponsors in this tri-state area that are helping us out with this car show, trying to expand bowman into a different level with the car show. But the other band is out of Pittsburgh, pennsylvania, and they're called Bon Jovi and I know you've talked to them a little bit and and you know they've been talking to the sound guy and the lights guys. But go ahead and talk about them for just a little bit.
Speaker 2:So they're. I believe they were started in 95, 96, and they're noted as the first Bon Jovi and Journey tribute band, and from videos I've seen they do an amazing job too, so I think we're in for one heck of a show.
Speaker 1:They do and I watched the videos also. But you know, I had this booking agent out of New York and when I asked him I said what do you got for me? And he had a bunch of these guys. But he said this is the one you're really going to enjoy. They're the number one band on the East coast right now and they're based out of Pittsburgh, pennsylvania.
Speaker 1:So when you see the type of music we're bringing into Bowman, north Dakota, it's better than most fairs and I think people are going to enjoy it. They like being on Main Street of Bowman. And you know we've got businesses. The bars are going to be setting up, they'll have something outside and inside A lot of business will have sidewalk sales going on. But it's a big time in Bowman, north Dakota and we just want to emphasize that. We want everybody to come and enjoy this. It's a great time for all. It's a family event, you know, and it's going to be a beautiful day. And you know, let's talk a little bit about our social. We had last night. We had a social down at the fairgrounds so people could come register and we had a nice social going on. But what made you guys think about let's do a social on Friday night.
Speaker 2:I think we talked after last year to possibly start transitioning into a two-day event. This is kind of the start of it. This year We'll see how it all or we see how it went last night and how today all flows out, but I think that social last night, that just that's a great opportunity for everyone that's coming from near and far to get together and they can visit and meet new people.
Speaker 1:It was a great way to showcase a few of the vehicles that are going to be on the auction today. We brought some down there and people were coming in and out looking. We brought some down there and people were coming in and out looking. And you know, as we're speaking right now also, the Dollars for Scholars has got a breakfast going on in the Four Seasons down there. So make your way to Bowman folks.
Speaker 1:But so let's talk a little bit about we've got four segments here to work on, but the transition of. You know, how do we get new members and how do we get enough people to help put on a show like this, cause it takes a lot of people. Um, as you well know, uh, you and Kevin Hilton have done a lot of legwork for the last couple of years making this work. But how do you keep the retention of these guys? And and it showed the other night when we had a committee meeting and we had like 38 people there that come and said, hey, we're going to help volunteer and do a lot of this. So, um, how do we keep them? And and how do we get them and and uh, and why are they all in there?
Speaker 2:so our roster consists of probably 175 members right now, maybe more um and a lot of those. They're not just from our community here, but we get them because we go to all these car shows in the neighboring areas. So every weekend we got something going on as a club. Yeah, there are a bunch of cars and we all go as a group and show up and visit with people and that's how we've got most of our members from the outside lying area.
Speaker 1:You know people and I always say this, but last weekend Scranton had their community days. Our car club run the beer show or the beer thing, and beer garden and we helped with that. And then the community needed help. It was a rib contest also, so we put on the rib contest and had some guys judge that. But when it come to moving all the ribs over to the eating line, all of our car club members stepped up and helped transport all that. And the community we said, wow, you guys just come in and help out with all this. And we said, yeah, we're here to help support the community and they support us. And I know we picked up some new members that day.
Speaker 1:But everybody had a great time at the beer garden and the community days. But that the, the rib fest, um, I believe, uh, you know there's some good ribs again that that afternoon and and you guys judging it got to, uh, got to know it. But when we fed they uh did 200 pounds of ribs and there was one rib left for the last guy that walked through the line. So that shows we fed a lot of people that day and and thanks to the community of scranton. But the car club that day had a benefit going on, and let's talk about that, because we do a lot of different things in this car club yeah, and we're not just your average car club.
Speaker 2:I mean, we try to be more community oriented as well. Um, if someone's in having a rough time medically or such like that, we put on benefits for them. Last weekend we took and we had a benefit for a local guy here and did a walking poker run just down our local main street and we've raised a whole lot of money. I was very successful for him for his medical challenges.
Speaker 1:I've seen pictures and there's a lot of people at this and we appreciate everybody turning out and you know, it seems like small towns people would turn out to help support these people. But when you guys got done with that, then the car club brought a lot of vehicles over to Scranton just to have a show and shine.
Speaker 2:Yep, yep, and everyone kind of jumped in after they got there. We had probably 10 people there in the beginning just to keep everything rolling, but after that benefit, everyone jumped in and helped and it was yeah, it was a great day.
Speaker 1:And I know it was. It was nice looking at a lot of the vehicles and and sitting on on the street there in Scranton. But you know, again we're we're getting back to where we're more than just a car club, we're a community organization that wants to help everybody, but we also want to help our community by bringing stuff like this to town. We know it benefits everybody in the community, with the gas stations and the hotels and and the bars and the stores and then our vendors that come in on that, on that, well, for today they all were in early lining up on main street, so we have a lot of extra food vendors and a lot of things happening. So you know, bowman, north Dakota is kind of a happening way. You look at Highway 85 and 12 going right through town. There's always a lot of traffic, and so let's get back to the. We're going to tell you what we're about at the end of this segment here. So I want to get to some commercials. I'll come back with Ryan in the next segment and then we'll get Kevin Hilton talking here a little bit too. But you know what we are. Whether you're buying or selling land, equipment or real estate, trust a team that's built on experience and results. Piper Auction and Realty and Land Management their farm and ranch auctioneers, land brokers and land managers are the best in the business. Visit piperscom today because when it comes to auctions and land sales nobody does it better. And again, you know we're going to be back here for the next segment and see what we can handle here with Ryan and talk more about the car show and then we'll get into the auction a little bit coming up. So folks go to Piferscom, check out all the cars for today's sale, and that's Piferscom. Click on the equipment button and that'll bring you up to the Lynn Sadler Memorial Car Auction and we'll be right back. Three, two, one. Welcome back to America's Land Auctioneer.
Speaker 1:On this beautiful Saturday morning in Bowman, north Dakota, we have a car show and we have an auction going on here for cars. I'm Jim Sabby, your host for this Saturday morning. I have Ryan Shear with Dakota Territory Car Club and Kevin Hilton, who will be on here in a little bit. But we want to talk about, I would say, the meat of all this is the, the cars. Um, you know we get a lot of people coming in here for this, but uh, and then we'll get into all the the vendors coming in, but let's talk about some of the cars and and where people actually come from. To come to bowman, north dakota.
Speaker 2:well, that's something that we're doing a little bit different now bring that up this year too is we're doing awards, and one of the awards is the furthest traveled, the way it's looking right now. I mean I've got people from Colorado and there's one that came from Canada. I mean they're just, they're coming from all over to this. Throughout the week had phone calls from Montana and Wyoming.
Speaker 1:They just stream all over and it kind of helps with we when we go, or if someone's going to a car show, we just send out flyers and they hang up flyers as they go and it's getting attention from people you know and and uh, it is kind of nice to to see that people are coming a long ways and last year we just happened to get a few out of the Hills that didn't really know about it, find out about it late, and and they showed up and had a great time.
Speaker 1:Um, but now with all the car shows you guys are going to and putting out posters and and flyers all over, plus with our advertising and um, that's one thing that um Pifers and Dakota Territory Car Club have teamed up for this event because it takes a lot in advertising and so, and with our advertising and marketing, we said let us take this over and get this marketed out there. And we're getting calls from all over the United States on this car show and the car auction. So we appreciate working with the car club. We're all members here in our office. We're going to have some of our own vehicles in the car show and it's going to be fun. Even our office manager she's got a Camaro and she's going to put in this thing. But we appreciate everybody that's doing that. But when you talk about, you know the locals really support this by putting their vehicles in.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, Our whole club has their vehicles in it, and it's not even club members. There's some that are not club members at this point that they still show up and bring their vehicles. So I mean, yeah, it's great.
Speaker 1:It's a lot of fun to see who's there and you know it gets to be kind of like family when you're walking up and down Main Street and some of these people you see once, maybe twice a year or at other car shows. But they enjoy coming here and you know you guys have got a lot of vendors lined up up and down the street here and that's really helped out because you know when you get in like last year we probably estimated 1,400, 1,500 people that came to Bowman you can't feed them all, you know, and we will have free water all over on Main Street again, like we did last year, but you just can't feed them all with our local businesses. So we wanted to make sure, so you guys brought in a lot of vendors.
Speaker 1:Yep, we do, and I mean we have basically anything and everything that your heart could desire for food. We've got basic cheeseburgers and stuff like that, and then it goes to there's barbecue, there's Mexican food. I up here in the next half hour 45 minutes, but when you look at the main street it's kind of fun and you know you get to these towns where and I'm going to use the Mandan area or Deadwood it kind of looks like that, because the amount of cars we have and the amount of people that come in here and then the amount of vendors and and everybody enjoys it I mean everybody that was here last year, man, they wanted to come back and and we do have a guy out of minot that's, I believe, coming down again, but he used to teach in scranton and he's a retired teacher now, but he comes down and sells uh, merchandise, so you know jerseys and and stuff like that. So, uh, he's one that wanted to get back here and he enjoyed our community when he taught here. But uh again.
Speaker 1:So, bill fillion, thank you for being down here, and a lot of us still remember the guy. It was a long time ago, yeah, he hasn't aged any, but we have. But uh, so other things going on in main street. Uh, what do you have, ryan?
Speaker 2:well. So, like I've said before, this isn't just your average car show. Um, we have a whole block, that's your whole street, that's blocked off just for the kids. You got bouncy houses, kids games, um. Then, right to when you walk in there, you got snow cone vendor. There's cotton candy vendor there, um, that's just for the kids to keep them busy and that'll run all day.
Speaker 1:We don't run it just for a couple hours, it goes all day you know, there is one vendor that, uh, I'm glad it's in a cage, but it's axe throwing and, uh, you know, they've, uh, they've been working on that, getting him down here and now we finally got him, but that's going to be, uh, on main street and and how much does it cost for a lot of these things, for for people to go in and throw axes and and whatever you know? Um, what do you?
Speaker 2:what do you have on that? So basically all of our stuff. And this is what sets us apart from everything else Our concerts are free. The axe throwing is free to the public. There's no admission to get in to look at the cars. It's all a community oriented event that's free for anyone coming in.
Speaker 1:And that is it's unbelievable. People come up and just thank us. But this is how we do it, with great sponsors that we bring in. And you know what, if you want to help us for the next year, don't be afraid to get a hold of either Ryan or Kevin Dakota Territory Car Club or me at Pifers, jim Savvy.
Speaker 1:But we want to bring in big events and we want it to basically cost nothing for the people coming to it and to have kids for those kid games. You know, anytime you've got a lot of kids on main street and having fun, that shows you got a thriving community and that's what we want. And so with the cost, basically it's your food and your beverages are about all it's going to cost you. Other than that, it's a free event. Come on into Bowman, north Dakota and we're going to have fun. But you know, let's get back. We've got some awards that you were talking about earlier and what are you talking about with that? And why do we have this one special one like we're going to talk about here in a minute?
Speaker 2:So our best to show is in memory of Paul Mossberger. He was a local guy that loved in the community and he was very active in the community. We lost him a few years ago, so we've done this for three years now. It's called the Paul Mossberger Memorial Best to Show Award and that is picked. That car, the best to show, was picked by his brothers.
Speaker 1:That's who picks that.
Speaker 2:Um, it's just a great little thing to keep his memory alive and yeah, and then don't we put that on a t-shirt? We do so like you'll see the t-shirts that we have for this show. Um, they have the best to show from last year, and that'll be. That'll keep going, and they'll just every year, I'll have the best of show from last year, and that'll be. That'll keep going, and they'll just, every year, have the best of show from the year before you know it's quite a quite a thing.
Speaker 1:You know, everybody down here knew paul mossberger and and you're right, he was great in the community and and always fun. I mean he, he always put you in stitches all the time, but he was the first one always to show up and help whatever anybody needed done so again that that's a great award. And the brothers do a great job of picking cars. I don't know, I would have picked the same car they did last year. I mean it was unbelievable, but you know so we got other awards going on there too.
Speaker 2:We do, and this is our first year of actually doing other awards we have. It's the first, second and third and that's DTCC choice, so it's our car club's choice. I've got about five judges that will judge towards the end of today and pick first, second and third to get trophies. We also, like I said, we have the longest distance traveled as well.
Speaker 1:You know, and it's just kind of some fun events for people to kind of stick around with, and at the end of the car show at 4 o'clock we also put on a parade and talk about that parade for a minute.
Speaker 2:Our parade. It runs a route that used to be ran during the fair. Here. They changed it over the last few years, shortened it up, but we run that whole parade ride still. We have involvement from fire and cops and everything like that.
Speaker 1:So it's just, it's a great little thing just to end the show you know, and we'll get into that in the third segment as I'll get kevin hilton up here to talk here. This next segment. But again, I'm america. This is america's land auctioneer. I'm jim sabby, your host, and looking for professional auction services or expert land management.
Speaker 1:Piper's auction and Realty and Land Management delivers proven success across the Midwest With the best farm and ranch auctioneers and brokers in the industry. They'll help you get top dollar. Visit Piper'scom and see why nobody does it better. Folks you're going to love getting on our website. Take a look at what we have. We've got a lot of sales going on Albany, minnesota, next week we're moving from there and then up to Sherwood, north Dakota, and then down to Dodge, north Dakota. We have something for everybody. I know I've got to go look at some more machinery today over in that head interlogical area, but we want you just to give us a call.
Speaker 1:And again, this is Jim Sabby with America's Land Auctioneer, and nobody does it better than Pifers. And we'll be right back for the next segment. Three, two, one. Welcome to America's Land Auctioneer. I'm Jim Sabby, your host today, and we are talking about the car show, the car auction going on in Bowman, north Dakota, this morning and all day and into the night with the music we have. But now I've got Kevin Hilton. He's a member of the Dakota Territory Car Club and you know what is your title.
Speaker 3:It depends on the day and the hours. I've been called many things.
Speaker 1:A lot of them not good.
Speaker 1:But you kind of handle the secretary and all the funds that come into our account. Yes, and you're one of our main guy to go out and get these sponsorships. And we don't have to name all the sponsorships because we're probably going to not remember them all. But you know it takes a lot of sponsors to make this thing work and we try to work on this on a yearly deal. But we just get a lot of people that step up to the plate and say, yes, I'll give you some money for a sponsorship. So talk a little bit about that.
Speaker 3:Yeah, absolutely. I think a lot of this goes back to the history of both Pipers and Dakota Territory Car Club. So Pipers is having their 25th anniversary this year. The car club is on 46 years, but this is our 36th annual car show and we've both been around long enough. You know, we've got history, not only in these communities but states wide. People know who we are and that certainly helps with the fundraising aspect of this. You know people will donate to what we're doing. It brings a lot of not only locals in but people from hundreds of miles around who want to experience this car auction. They want to experience the car show, the parade, they want to see what we're doing. The entertainment in the evening is just phenomenal and it's all free, like you said. You know, and that's all because of the donations we get from people. We've got some big corporate sponsors and we got people that'll donate, you know, a hundred bucks or five hundred bucks, and that's all good, because it all goes to a good cause.
Speaker 1:It's what makes this free for everyone and you know it doesn't have to be, uh, monetary. But and I'm going to use there's a couple of businesses town that are donating like pallets of water, you know, because it gets off on main street, um, you know, so we have a water station set up all up and down main street and you know it's it's people like that and we got, um, you know, places that donate gas cards, um, to help out with. You know, we have some transportation costs that are going to pick up the bands and and bring them back, and but, uh, it's just, it doesn't have to be monetary, just something little like the water and which turns out to be a big deal. When it was 100 degrees last year and looks like we're going to be 89, 90 degrees today. We're we're hoping it's a little bit cooler than that. But you know, it just takes. It takes the whole community and the whole tri-state area to put on something like this.
Speaker 3:Yeah, absolutely, it certainly does. And people step in. You know that, thank goodness. You know some of our big corporate sponsors, professional out of body here in Bowman is a big one. We had a property tax firm out of Chicago Illinois that stepped in and sponsored one of our bands. So you know it gets around and people are willing to come forward and donate their time, donate their money and it makes us free for everyone, you know, because we want everybody to be able to experience what we can offer in Bowman, north Dakota.
Speaker 1:I think you know the and of course being right here, andy Murdoch, john Soraiti, allie Pierce, myself, jim Sabby. You know I've been a part of the car club for a while and my dad was one that probably not really the founder, but it was one of the first ones in the club. Him and a couple of my neighbors helped start the club. But we see a positive thing with this and kind of like with our business here. We bring people to town and we look out for the community. But now all of us in our Piper's organization this is an annual event where we're looking forward to from the day after the sale.
Speaker 1:You know everybody in the company talks about it. They all want to come here. You know from from all of our agents want to come out here also. So we bring in a lot of those guys. But they love it out here. And folks, if you ever spend any time down here in Southwest North Dakota, we have a lot of things going on, but I don't believe you'll you'll find any friendlier people and we like to have fun. There's no doubt about it. But when you combine with like us and your car club and then these other sponsors, we have something magical kind of going on that other places are jealous of.
Speaker 3:Oh, absolutely yes, you know, talking about our histories, the goal I think you know visiting prior conversations between us both with Pifers and the car club is to support our communities. You know we've both been in business long enough. We don't do this to certainly to make money off of it. It's, it's a service we offer, it's something for the communities to do and I think we've proven that with people coming for hundreds of miles to experience this, to bring their cars um, you know so. It's. So it's a free event, but you know, the businesses that support it certainly need to be recognized, but we don't do it to make a name for ourselves. It's to provide a service, something for the communities.
Speaker 1:You know, and just thinking of the people that are coming here, got a call yesterday from a guy from him and his wife from Albany, minnesota. They're coming out here prairie dog hunting. But they they were here last year for the car show and car auction and so they're going to combine their trip and get rid of a few prairie dogs and and uh and then hang around for the car show and the car auction and, and you know they just enjoy it. The albany if anybody ever been to albany, minnesota, it's a beautiful little town right along I-84. But they have the same attitude as us. Those people are farm and ranch people and they love it out here. They get along with everybody, but they want to come here because they don't get to see this all the time.
Speaker 1:Yeah, they can go into the cities or they can go into these other towns and it doesn't mean anything because no one really knows anybody Out here. Everybody knows everybody and people bringing cars. They all been at a lot of other car shows together. So they enjoy coming out here and I know we have some people coming down from the Canadian border and in Canada. So it's going to be a great show. It's going to be a lot of fun. But you know, going back to our sponsors and then our vendors, you know talk a little bit how the vendors have gotten involved from your aspect.
Speaker 3:Absolutely. You know, the first year we did this, that was a little bit more of a challenge to bring in the vendors. Now that, even though we're only on our second year of a show of this magnitude, the vendors are calling us, you know, and that's nice, that's one less thing that we have to worry about. This is a big activity for them for the summer and they know that we're going to get the crowd, we're going to get the cars. You know, one of the biggest compliments I hear is the personalization of this. You know everybody's so personable. You know you don't get a lot of attitude that I've seen at other car shows where it's very clicky groups. This is a very outgoing community and I think we've proven that and I think that's why we're seeing a lot of repetitive, not only vendors but people coming in for the show. Is they like what we do here?
Speaker 1:You know, and with Highway 12 and 85, we get a lot of traffic through here and you know we've had banners on Highway 85 going through Bowman, we've had the ads in the paper and we've had ads on the radio, and social media has been huge. I was just did a video here the other day I believe it was on Wednesday of the vehicles and kind of shipping out videos all over the country but get a lot of comments. I do know that. You know that one set of videos I sent out early. You know I've had 7,000 views on that and it's nice to see people know where we're at here.
Speaker 1:You know we're a community that kind of sticks out and you know you've got the community of Rehm and Bowman and Scranton. I tell you what it's a close-knit area but everybody's the same but they always want to help the community out. And you look at some of these vendors. I will tell you this If you go hungry today it's your own fault.
Speaker 1:There's so many food vendors here that you know you could probably you're going to probably need a golf cart to get out of here because you're going to be so full. But you know we've got beer vendors and we've got some good drink vendors on Main Street, then you have the snow cones and cotton candy for the kids. It's just going to be a fun day on Main Street and you know we'll get into this the next segment. But we'll talk about what we're going to do for everybody when they are coming in, you know, with tents set up in different locations and the amount of water and stuff, everything that's going to need. But you know, just let's talk about some of the cars that you know that are coming in right now that will be in Bowman.
Speaker 3:Yeah, there's some rare cars coming in, and there's not just cars, pickups, motorcycles, you know, professionally restored tractors Just there's something there for everybody. It doesn't matter what you're into or what vintage you're into. I do the majority of the pre-registration for this show. I think we've got around 150 or 60 pre-registered and usually that's less than 50% of what actually gets registered. So you know, this morning I think the registration booth is probably backed up like it was last year and I'm thinking we're going to be north of 300 cars, not including the auction cars. So don't forget folks. You know that's another 45, 50 vehicles there to look at. The auction itself brings in probably 300, 400 people minimum, and then you've got your online bidders. So that brings a lot of excitement in this show as well. So there's something there for everyone to see.
Speaker 1:You know and it is, and don't forget, you can bid on Piferscom, but go there and take a look at this Lynn Memorial excuse me, lynn Sadler Memorial car show, car auction, and take a look at the vehicles. If you've got any interest in anything, let us know. You know we'd like to thank the Cowboy Hall of Fame. They had a gentleman that donated a motor home to them and we're putting that up for auction right now and all the proceeds will go to the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Medora, north Dakota. Folks, that's a great place up there. Make sure you go when you're in Medora. Go in there and walk around and take a look at everything. They do a great job. But they like to promote small town America too, and Cowboy Hall of Fame has been great working with us and it's just been a lot of fun getting that one lined up. We get calls from all over the country on that.
Speaker 1:But you know, folks, today is America's Land Auctioneer. I'm right here in Bowman, north Dakota. I'm Jim Sabby, your host. We're going to continue this next segment coming up, but I got another commercial break first. When it comes to buying and selling farmland, ranches and equipment, experience matters. It's warming up outside and I hope everybody can show up here and give us a call, if you've got any questions about it, at 701-523-6283, and we'll be right back.
Speaker 1:3, 2, 1. Welcome back to America's Land Auctioneer. It's a Saturday morning here in Bowman, north Dakota. Got Dakota Territory Car Club members right here. We got the president and probably the secretary treasurer, but the president, ryan Shear, will be on here about halfway through this segment and Kevin Hilton's here. We're talking about a lot of things happening on Main Street. But you know, first list you have a list of what kind of vendors we have. I know we talk cotton candy and stuff for the kids, snow cones, but can you talk about a few other ones there, kevin, that we have?
Speaker 3:Absolutely. We've got some merchandise vendors in town here, anything from signs, sports memorabilia, t-shirts not just necessarily automobile related stuff here. So there's vendors up and down Main Street, the local businesses as well. You know several different food and drink vendors. You could order any drink you want. Kids drinks doesn't matter. You know snacks for the kids. There's just about anything you would want is here on Main Street in Bowman, north Dakota.
Speaker 1:You know, and these people are all pulling in right now and finding their spots and you've got them located at different spots on Main Street and again but let's talk about you know why we have this water set out up and down Main Street. Now we know it's going to be warm, you know, on pavement. But we had some local businesses that stepped up and said, hey, we will do this for you.
Speaker 3:Yep, absolutely. It's. All was provided to us. It's all free of charge for us. We've got a big grocery store in town, bronson's Grocery. They donated two and a half pallets of water. You know we've got a lot of compliments on that. Last year that was the first year we'd ever done this. It went over big. You know there's a lot of middle-aged, older people at these events. You know those are typically the ones that own these high-dollar cars and it's important to be rehydrated, especially when it's hot out. So we provide that free of charge. All day long there's people running around restocking those, putting ice in them. You know we got maps so everybody knows where everything's at on Main Street, whether it's a food vendor or they want to know where the water stations are. Everything is easily accessible and we make everyone feel as welcome as we can.
Speaker 1:You know, in a lot of these activities when we started this thing, you know, and a lot of these activities when we started this thing we start. Our main organizational place is out at the county fairgrounds, Bowman County Fairgrounds, at the Four Seasons Pavilion where we have registration. Last night we had the social and registration. Now today is registration in there, the breakfast is in there and it's right across from highway, right across from where we're going to be on main street.
Speaker 1:But one thing we have here in bowman and of course we love working with the fair board and we appreciate them but one thing we do have is if we have any storms come up, our community has enough buildings to put about every vehicle in. Uh. We have a couple of farmers with a lot of big buildings. We got the fairgrounds with their buildings. So we do have that ability to. If we see something coming, we can vacate and get into buildings and and and make sure everybody's car is safe. So that's why a lot of people do like coming here because we have that ability. Now, all the cars that have come in for the auction we've had out in our our auction uh site in buildings and then they've been moved to and some of them have been moved to another site because we filled up so fast. So I want to thank the fair board for letting us do all this, but all the other people around town that said has opened up their doors and say hey, if you guys need them, our buildings are available absolutely.
Speaker 3:That's a huge thing. I go to a lot of car shows. This is the only show I've ever been to where that is accessible. Any other show you know if you're going to drive your vehicle you're at risk of whatever happens. You know they've got no responsibility for it and they're not going to find any place to put it, so you'll see a lot of cars that get trailered. It's just not as fun as if you can drive it.
Speaker 1:So people appreciate the storage we're very fortunate that way, and and again, it's a community event and everybody wants to be involved and and uh, so we do appreciate everybody that's helped out with that and and you know, and again the with the fair board. I mean they got that big indoor arena. I don't know how many cars we could fit in there, but it wouldn't take long to put them in there probably twice as many if we stack them.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, that'd go over very well, but you know again, kevin, I want to thank you for being here this morning, and we're going to get back with Ryan and talk a little bit more about what goes on afterwards and how we're going to build for next year.
Speaker 3:So Kevin Hilton. Thank you.
Speaker 1:And again you're listening to America's Land Auctioneer. I'm Jim Sabby with Pipers. I've been here for on my 19th year and we appreciate doing this show every Saturday morning and we got Ryan back here Now, once this show gets over with. I know we're all kind of I shouldn't say looking forward to the end. But that's what you build for. But how are we going to try to top it for next year?
Speaker 2:Well, the planning will start right after this show. I mean, there's no lag in planning, that's for sure, but I guess we'll see where we can improve. That's the best thing to do.
Speaker 1:You know, and we do sit back and say, okay, you know, we need to improve on this and you'll never get better if you think that you've done it right all the time. I mean, we've got little things that hiccups even in now that we're working through and trying to get done. But we want to make it as easy on the vendors, on the car people that come in to show the people for the auction. We want to just be a breeze for those people. And so we've been working behind the scenes for you know well, since last July or I'd say early August, on how we can make it better from last year and I believe we've done that. Last night or a couple nights ago at our meeting, it went smoothly. I mean it was before. We were kind of panic mode every meeting last year. Now it just went smoothly. Everybody knows what they're doing, everybody's willing to step up and help, and when you get people say you know, if I'm not doing anything in this time period, I'll go over here and help over here.
Speaker 1:And so we're going to shut down Main Street early. We're going to have our stage set up. Folks get on down here for the music, but you can eat supper on Main Street. You can look at the vehicles during the day, go to the car auction at 11. And the reason why we're doing that at 11 is it got a little warm last year and we started at 1 o'clock and ended up at 3. So we're hoping we'll be starting at 11, and we should be done by 12, 31 o'clock for this auction. But we want to keep everybody there and we know it gets hot on Main Street with pavement and everything. But let's talk about the tents that we're going to have up.
Speaker 2:So last year we had four tents up there, big, big tents with picnic tables and stuff under them, but this year we'll I think we've got eight of them set up out there right now. It's just a good spot for people to go to get out of the sun. Like I said, it's hot on pavement, no matter what. It could be 90 today, I think so, but it's a good, good way just to get people cooled down and but they can still stay on main street, so that way they can just rest and and continue on.
Speaker 1:You know, I noticed, like last year, that everybody was gathering underneath the tents or or going in inside the businesses and you know, and we want to see that, we want to see people go into businesses and spend some money and and have a little fun. But you know, this is our one big event of the year but we do a lot of and let's just go over a few things what the car club does before we close out this segment. But there's a lot of things we do by doing the benefits for a lot of people.
Speaker 2:But there's, you go to a show and shines you, we go all over the country yeah, we do, and actually next year, the way sounds, we're going to be putting on show and shines in at least one town. That's probably I don't know it's probably 60 miles away. It's just, it's what we do. We travel and go visit with people and just it's getting a lot of attention.
Speaker 1:It'll be fun. But again, folks, I want to mention the auctions. At 11 o'clock, go to Piferscom, check out the car auction. Go to the equipment tab there, click on that and it's a Len Sadler Memorial car auction for today at 11 o'clock. Check out the vehicles and you know, folks, you're going to have a little fun with this, but we've got some really nice driving cars. We've got some other cars that they're probably going to be sitting in a building for a while. I mean, they are very nice. You know that Mustang Cobra is unbelievable, shelby, it's what 2,030 miles on it or something like that 2008. So, just remember, we're going to have a great time here in Bowman, north Dakota, and I want to thank the Dakota territory car club for putting this on. We all work together, but there's two guys here that's worked harder than anybody and that's Ryan Shearer and Kevin Hilton, and they've done a great job and and they have a lot of fun at this. You know, sometimes it gets pretty stressful, as we all know, but they have a lot of fun.
Speaker 1:So, again, I'm Jim Sabby with Pifers. I am on American Land Auctioneer here this morning, saturday morning, bowman, north Dakota. But you know what? Nobody does it better than Pifers. Just remember that. So if you need anything, just go to piferscom. Check out our website, whether it's a land sale, machinery sale, car sale, upcoming gun sales, we're going to have Get a hold of us and we'd be glad to talk to you. So I'd like to say thank you and everybody. Have a great weekend, be safe and again, jim Sabby, with America's Land Auctioneer, will talk to you soon.
