COLLEGE SPOTLIGHT: SMSU's Malayna Hemmen
MARSHALL — Malayna Hemmen is currently a sophomore on the Southwest Minnesota State University women’s cross country team. Hemmen was a standout multi-sport athlete at Elkton-Lake Benton. This past weekend, Hemmen ran for the Mustangs at the Dordt University Classic in Sioux Center, Iowa. She recorded a time of 29:38 in the women’s varsity 6,000-meter race, and SMSU placed 16th in the Gold Division with 443 points. Minnesota State was the overall champion, and Bellevue’s Grace Steinmetz took top honors in 20:40.
