Show Notes

Welcome back to Our House, a podcast brought to you by award winning social landlord, EastendHomes.

In today's episode, Helen heads to the Bernie Cameron Community Centre in Mile End to chat to the Girls Friendly Society - one of the longest standing charities for young women and girls in England and Wales!

In this warm, inspiring episode, we hear from the various people who make up the weekly Tuesday Girls Club at the centre and create a safe, single-gendered space for young women and girls to grow and develop. It runs every Tuesday during term time from 5.30-6.45pm.

We begin by chatting to Jessica McKenna - the group coordinator. She shares why we need single sex spaces for girls to develop their confidence and how volunteers have a crucial role in shaping this nurturing space. We also learn about the values and statements that make up a GFS girl before talking to the volunteers who make the club possible.

To end the episode, Helen interviews the brilliant girls who come to the Bernie Cameron Centre weekly. They tell us what they enjoy about the club, their dreams for the future and even give us a special rendition of a popular song that sums up what their club means to them!
