Show Notes Chapter Markers

Welcome back to Our House, a podcast brought to you by award winning social landlord, EastendHomes.

In today's episode, Helen is joined by Jo Wilson, Shazna Hussain and Sajna Miah of the Women's Environmental Network and Dr Elaine Swan of the University of Sussex. They discuss their new, collaborative project - Food Stories Tower Hamlets. This programme is all about the important role food plays in our history, culture and communities. It's being run on the St George’s Estate in Shadwell.

In this lovely episode, we hear more about the project from the various perspectives of the research team. Elaine and Jo tell us more about how this East London based project is understanding how communities buy, grow and share food, whilst seeking to challenge injustice within the current food system.

Helen also chats to Shazna and Sajna, two local resident researchers of the project. They discuss why they got involved in the project and how they think it's helped their local community.

Food Stories Tower Hamlets is part of a 5-year research programme funded by UKRI and led by University of Reading, FoodSEqual. It involves many universities, communities and food companies working alongside communities to create a better food environment. UKRI convenes, catalyses and invests in close collaboration with others to build a thriving, inclusive research. To find out more about UKRI, please visit www.ukri.org
