And certainly,"},{"startTime":188.9,"endTime":190.309,"body":"back then, I mean, that was the idea"},{"startTime":190.31,"endTime":191.749,"body":"of what a missionary meant, was"},{"startTime":191.75,"endTime":193.171,"body":"being overseas. But the doors"},{"startTime":193.58,"endTime":195.47,"body":"didn't open for various reasons and"},{"startTime":195.71,"endTime":197.66,"body":"it kind of sent me spiraling"},{"startTime":197.99,"endTime":200.05,"body":"a bit, and kind of questioning God,"},{"startTime":200.06,"endTime":201.499,"body":"not so much about my calling,"},{"startTime":201.95,"endTime":203.26,"body":"but just wondering, All right, Lord."},{"startTime":203.27,"endTime":204.887,"body":"Well, if not overseas, then what?"},{"startTime":205.35,"endTime":206.149,"body":"And where?"},{"startTime":206.15,"endTime":208.52,"body":"And so I couldn't really see myself,"},{"startTime":208.82,"endTime":210.049,"body":"back then, you know, in some"},{"startTime":210.05,"endTime":211.324,"body":"traditional pastoral role."},{"startTime":211.61,"endTime":212.61,"body":"So I felt"},{"startTime":213.71,"endTime":215.089,"body":"like my spiritual wheels were"},{"startTime":215.09,"endTime":216.707,"body":"spinning a bit and there wasn't a"},{"startTime":216.83,"endTime":218.779,"body":"lot of traction. So I remember"},{"startTime":219.05,"endTime":220.579,"body":"getting down to business with God."},{"startTime":220.58,"endTime":221.58,"body":"It was"},{"startTime":225.65,"endTime":226.999,"body":"late 1992. It was either December of"},{"startTime":225.65,"endTime":226.999,"body":"'92"},{"startTime":227.78,"endTime":228.78,"body":"or January of '93."},{"startTime":229.52,"endTime":230.892,"body":"And I had finally completely"},{"startTime":231.8,"endTime":233.172,"body":"surrendered, and I made this"},{"startTime":233.18,"endTime":234.919,"body":"commitment to Him and I told the"},{"startTime":234.92,"endTime":236.488,"body":"Lord, I said, I am willing to go"},{"startTime":237.02,"endTime":238.02,"body":"to literally any"},{"startTime":238.97,"endTime":240.218,"body":"place where there's a need."},{"startTime":240.219,"endTime":242.389,"body":"And I said,"},{"startTime":243.02,"endTime":244.58,"body":"The next door that opens,"},{"startTime":245.49,"endTime":246.59,"body":"I'm going to walk through it."},{"startTime":248.27,"endTime":250.034,"body":"And so I said, you know, if it's not"},{"startTime":250.1,"endTime":251.766,"body":"your will, Lord, then you're going"},{"startTime":252.02,"endTime":253.49,"body":"to have to be the one that closes it"},{"startTime":253.91,"endTime":255.129,"body":"because I'm committed to go."},{"startTime":255.59,"endTime":257.359,"body":"And so, long story short,"},{"startTime":257.66,"endTime":259.219,"body":"within that same year, within that"},{"startTime":259.22,"endTime":260.85,"body":"same timeframe, a"},{"startTime":261.41,"endTime":262.41,"body":"few weeks even,"},{"startTime":263.66,"endTime":266.149,"body":"through some various godly"},{"startTime":266.27,"endTime":268.009,"body":"appointed or"},{"startTime":268.21,"endTime":270.139,"body":"divine appointments, I"},{"startTime":270.14,"endTime":272.029,"body":"really, I found myself,"},{"startTime":272.36,"endTime":274.21,"body":"along with my wife of"},{"startTime":274.216,"endTime":275.784,"body":"- it was just a little less than"},{"startTime":275.93,"endTime":276.97,"body":"three years at that time - we"},{"startTime":277.82,"endTime":279.47,"body":"were pastoring in a small"},{"startTime":279.77,"endTime":281.387,"body":"fly-in First Nations community in"},{"startTime":281.66,"endTime":282.67,"body":"Northern Ontario."},{"startTime":283.13,"endTime":284.13,"body":"And so to this day,"},{"startTime":284.99,"endTime":287.179,"body":"I continually find myself saying"},{"startTime":287.18,"endTime":288.619,"body":"yes to indigenous ministry"},{"startTime":288.62,"endTime":289.62,"body":"opportunities."},{"startTime":289.85,"endTime":291.739,"body":"Yeah, so talk to us about"},{"startTime":291.74,"endTime":293.214,"body":"where that fly-in place is,"},{"startTime":293.6,"endTime":295.189,"body":"because I think most people are"},{"startTime":295.19,"endTime":296.269,"body":"like, oh, you know, it's probably"},{"startTime":296.27,"endTime":297.569,"body":"close to Toronto or something."},{"startTime":297.57,"endTime":298.57,"body":"Right? It was a fly-in First"},{"startTime":309.92,"endTime":311.749,"body":"Nations community called"},{"startTime":311.75,"endTime":313.318,"body":"Weagamow Lake, formerly known as"},{"startTime":313.43,"endTime":314.279,"body":"Round Lake."},{"startTime":314.28,"endTime":315.28,"body":"They"},{"startTime":316.31,"endTime":318.41,"body":"now have - this was"},{"startTime":318.65,"endTime":320.513,"body":"after our time there -"},{"startTime":320.521,"endTime":322.519,"body":"they now actually have"},{"startTime":322.52,"endTime":323.589,"body":"a full-season road that"},{"startTime":326.51,"endTime":327.585,"body":"kind of connects with the all-season"},{"startTime":328.94,"endTime":330.829,"body":"road that ended at"},{"startTime":330.83,"endTime":332.839,"body":"Wendigo Lake just north of Pickle"},{"startTime":332.84,"endTime":333.84,"body":"Lake and"},{"startTime":334.82,"endTime":336.819,"body":"lookout area in"},{"startTime":336.83,"endTime":338.089,"body":"there. But"},{"startTime":338.96,"endTime":340.381,"body":"following that, we then moved"},{"startTime":340.85,"endTime":342.709,"body":"to - because apparently that wasn't"},{"startTime":342.89,"endTime":344.708,"body":"far enough north - we"},{"startTime":344.762,"endTime":346.579,"body":"moved to Rankin Inlet, Nunavut."},{"startTime":347.24,"endTime":348.24,"body":"And"},{"startTime":349.31,"endTime":350.6,"body":"we were there for ten years"},{"startTime":351.35,"endTime":353.229,"body":"pastoring with the Inuit"},{"startTime":353.27,"endTime":354.27,"body":"there. I think the last"},{"startTime":506.66,"endTime":508.326,"body":"stat that I saw was like six times"},{"startTime":508.61,"endTime":510.109,"body":"that of the national average."},{"startTime":512.33,"endTime":514.094,"body":"This is, of course, referring to the"},{"startTime":514.159,"endTime":516.139,"body":"indigenous population, community."},{"startTime":517.039,"endTime":519.169,"body":"Drug and alcohol abuse also"},{"startTime":519.38,"endTime":520.459,"body":"is often a problem."},{"startTime":520.47,"endTime":522.529,"body":"You've got domestic abuse,"},{"startTime":522.53,"endTime":524.389,"body":"which then is, I mean, that's"},{"startTime":524.39,"endTime":526.579,"body":"often associated with the substance"},{"startTime":526.58,"endTime":527.58,"body":"abuse previously."},{"startTime":528.53,"endTime":530.374,"body":"There's also -- there"},{"startTime":531.62,"endTime":532.943,"body":"is a family dynamic crisis,"},{"startTime":533.9,"endTime":534.919,"body":"I guess you can call it, if you"},{"startTime":534.92,"endTime":535.92,"body":"will. Because"},{"startTime":537.05,"endTime":538.05,"body":"half of"},{"startTime":540.53,"endTime":542.283,"body":"the foster children --"},{"startTime":542.72,"endTime":543.72,"body":"I'm trying to recall"},{"startTime":544.82,"endTime":546.44,"body":"it. I just read it recently"},{"startTime":546.74,"endTime":548.989,"body":"-- that half of the foster children"},{"startTime":549.14,"endTime":550.669,"body":"under the age of 14"},{"startTime":551.24,"endTime":552.85,"body":"in Canada are Indigenous."},{"startTime":554.09,"endTime":556.099,"body":"And so you've got over half"},{"startTime":556.1,"endTime":557.539,"body":"of First Nations"},{"startTime":558.05,"endTime":559.645,"body":"children in particular in Canada,"},{"startTime":559.646,"endTime":561.559,"body":"they actually live in single"},{"startTime":561.56,"endTime":562.85,"body":"parent homes."},{"startTime":563.45,"endTime":564.45,"body":"And so, but"},{"startTime":567.08,"endTime":569.209,"body":"I say those things"},{"startTime":569.21,"endTime":570.778,"body":"and we hear those statistics and"},{"startTime":571.16,"endTime":572.809,"body":"it helps us kind of quantify some"},{"startTime":572.81,"endTime":574.639,"body":"things, but really, in essence,"},{"startTime":574.64,"endTime":576.71,"body":"those are just symptoms."},{"startTime":577.49,"endTime":578.49,"body":"And certainly, you"},{"startTime":579.44,"endTime":580.763,"body":"know, with the geographical"},{"startTime":580.91,"endTime":583.01,"body":"isolation, we've got covid,"},{"startTime":583.46,"endTime":584.539,"body":"you know, there have been some"},{"startTime":584.54,"endTime":586.549,"body":"struggles because indigenous"},{"startTime":586.55,"endTime":588.02,"body":"people are such social people,"},{"startTime":588.38,"endTime":590.479,"body":"so the restrictions with social"},{"startTime":590.48,"endTime":592.04,"body":"gatherings has had,"},{"startTime":592.58,"endTime":594.019,"body":"certainly, an impact."},{"startTime":594.38,"endTime":595.801,"body":"And then being geographically"},{"startTime":595.88,"endTime":596.88,"body":"isolated. Relatively,"},{"startTime":600.32,"endTime":601.643,"body":"our communities, indigenous"},{"startTime":601.76,"endTime":602.936,"body":"communities, have stayed"},{"startTime":603.59,"endTime":604.59,"body":"relatively safe.
