We live in a time of dramatic change, in music as much as anything else - what we listen to, how we collect it and how we consume it. The Walkman and the iPod have come and gone, and the record collection is a thing of memory. The boys look at how much has changed during the rock era, for good or ill.
Our “Before You Die” album this episode is “The Madcap Laughs” by Syd Barrett, ex-Pink Floyd. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) said that the sessions “were pretty tortuous and very rushed." He got very frustrated that Barrett wouldn’t get his finger out and do something. It shows! Mick’s conclusion? Despite a great cover by Hipgnosis, the album is terrible.
Jeff's Rant takes a look at back-masking and tries to uncover Satanic messages in some of our most popular music. Pink Floyd takes the cake with, “You've just discovered the secret message!” and asks us to send our answer to “Old Pink, care of the funny farm”.
