Community Therapy delivers values-driven community, aged and disability allied health services across the Hunter and Central Coast regions of NSW.

 Today’s Guest

It’s OT week and we have the pleasure of speaking to Karen Brown.

Karen is the NSW & ACT Divisional Manager for Occupational Therapy Australia (OTA).  She has worked as an occupational therapist for the past 20 years in South Australia and New South Wales in a range of clinical, project and health management roles.  Adult rehabilitation and aged care are her primary areas of interest which have seen her work in emergency departments, acute and rehabilitation hospitals, transition care and in the community.

Occupational Therapy Australia is the peak professional body representing, promoting and fostering occupational therapists and the profession across Australia.

Karen joined OTA earlier this year and is enjoying the opportunity to represent, support and advocate for occupational therapists and the profession.

The theme this year for OT week is participation, inclusion and independence to celebrate the role on OT plays in supporting people of all abilities to engage in activities they find meaningful.

Things you will learn

  • what is OT week
  • what is the OTA (member numbers, key member offerings and advocacy focuses at present)
  • what new graduate OTs can expect from the OTA in support and offerings
  • how exciting the diversity of OT scope of practice is
