In this episode, we talk about aged care wage increases, positive news for CHSP meal providers, a continued focus on NDIS fraud and updates to the NDIS board and IAC. Welcome to the Community Therapy podcast. name is Scott Lynch, founder and managing director at Community Therapy. In this week's bite-size episode, we dive into the previous week's Aged Care and NDIS news. Firstly, for Aged Care, it's been reported via a media release that from January 1st, 340,000 aged care workers in residential and home care will receive an increase in their award. wages. For some workers, this is the first award increase with a further increase commencing from the 1st of October 2025. Specifically, this applies to direct care and general care workers covered by the aged care award and aged care workers covered by the sheds award. The aged care sector will have access to funding to pass on this award wage increase with the government's$3.8 billion investment over four years on top of the $11.3 billion already committed in 2023 to fund the previous award wage increases. This is obviously very positive news to make sure that aged care workers are appropriately remunerated for the wonderful work that they do supporting older adults living at home or within residential aged care. Very positive news for CHSP meal providers as well to ensure their ongoing sustainability. From the 1st of January, all CHSP meal providers will receive a 10 % cost of living top-up of their meal funding to alleviate costs, pressures and reduced impact on service delivery. This will increase funding to CHSP providers by $37 million over the next three years. Updates across NDIS, there's a continued focus on fraud with Bill Shorten reporting via media release that over the last six months, the Fraud Fusion Task Force, commonly referred to the FFT, has executed around 20 warrants and there are currently more than 500 active investigations. In 2024 alone, the NDIA has reported that it has implemented Integrity interventions estimated to save the NDIS over $200 million in forecasted non-compliant or fraudulent payments. The NDIA board has announced two recent appointments as well as the National Disability Insurance Scheme Independent Advisory Council, IAC, has announced five new appointments as well.
