BEACH CORNER with Dianna Chycki - November 26, 2024 - ALEX BIRD
Born in Romania and raised in Canada, Alex Bird has been immersed in jazz since he was a toddler, with early exposure to the music of legends like Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson, Mel Tormé, and Ray Charles at Toronto clubs.
Alex along with his song writing and piano partner Ewen Farncombe, gained national recognition with their song “The Sweetest Moments”—celebrated as Canada’s official Thanksgiving anthem, backed by a national ad campaign and major interviews on CBC and CTV.
Now, Alex and his band, The Jazz Mavericks, have set their sights on the holiday season with the release of Another Christmas Day, a vibrant 10-song album available on YouTube and Spotify. This album was recorded live at Toronto’s Canterbury Music Company, capturing a raw, classic sound by forgoing headphones and studio monitors.
In their short but impressive career, Alex Bird and The Jazz Mavericks have been nominated for Best Vocal Jazz album at the Juno Awards in 2022 and 2024.
An album release party is scheduled for Thursday, November 28th at the Jazz Bistro in Toronto.
Dianna was delighted to welcome via ZOOM Jazz singer, songwriter, actor and two-time JUNO nominee, Alex Bird.
