00:00:04.065 --> 00:00:07.065
You feel that?

00:00:07.133 --> 00:00:10.132
That was a second gone.

00:00:12.066 --> 00:00:16.932
Another one gone.

00:00:16.932 --> 00:00:20.399
Life is happening right now.

00:00:21.132 --> 00:00:22.332
And you?

00:00:22.332 --> 00:00:25.332
You're in it.

00:00:25.800 --> 00:00:27.932
But here's the truth.

00:00:27.932 --> 00:00:30.932
You don't get a replay.

00:00:31.500 --> 00:00:36.232
Opportunities missed them and they're gone.

00:00:36.432 --> 00:00:37.365
Look carefully, then.

00:00:37.365 --> 00:00:38.966
How you walk.

00:00:38.966 --> 00:00:44.765
Not as unwise, but as wise as the world says.

00:00:44.765 --> 00:00:46.232
Live for yourself.

00:00:46.232 --> 00:00:50.732
But wisdom says live for something greater.

00:00:52.299 --> 00:00:59.665
Because time you can waste it, or you can use it.

00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:04.000
Don't waste your life.

00:01:10.332 --> 00:01:11.266
Well good morning church.

00:01:11.266 --> 00:01:12.266
How are we doing?

00:01:12.266 --> 00:01:13.766
Morning.

00:01:13.766 --> 00:01:15.733
It's great to be with you this morning.

00:01:15.733 --> 00:01:17.299
And thank you for coming in.

00:01:17.299 --> 00:01:19.733
Despite the fact that we had daylight savings time.

00:01:19.733 --> 00:01:23.200
This is the cursed Sunday at Daylight Savings time.

00:01:23.200 --> 00:01:24.433
We got the blessed Sunday.

00:01:24.433 --> 00:01:26.233
When we fall back to.

00:01:26.233 --> 00:01:30.299
This morning is the cursed Sunday when we spring forward. It.

00:01:30.299 --> 00:01:34.933
And this whole idea of Daylight savings time is kind of weird to me.

00:01:34.933 --> 00:01:35.865
Maybe to you all.

00:01:35.865 --> 00:01:43.033
But you know, it's an attempt to try to save some daylight by moving the clocks of the hand back an hour.

00:01:43.033 --> 00:01:45.832
But really, how much does it actually help?

00:01:45.832 --> 00:01:55.933
I'm not sure, but I am certain that there are some things that don't adhere to the time change.

00:01:56.400 --> 00:02:02.900
And one of those things would be my four month old son, Ezra.

00:02:03.766 --> 00:02:12.966
It doesn't matter what time it is, it doesn't matter what the clock says, what my phone says, if he wants to wake up, he's going to wake up.

00:02:12.966 --> 00:02:14.500
I was with him last night.

00:02:14.500 --> 00:02:18.699
He's been sleeping in little stints, and I want to go and give a shout out to my wife.

00:02:18.699 --> 00:02:19.599
She made it to the building.

00:02:19.599 --> 00:02:21.733
I don't know why she even made it to the building today.

00:02:21.733 --> 00:02:26.866
He'd been under the weather, but she has made it taking care of two kids all week.

00:02:26.932 --> 00:02:27.765
Thankful for her.

00:02:27.765 --> 00:02:30.032
She makes it possible that we can do weekends like this.

00:02:30.032 --> 00:02:31.699
I'm so thankful for her.

00:02:31.699 --> 00:02:36.966
But with this whole DST, the daylight Savings time, my son really, really could care less.

00:02:36.966 --> 00:02:48.265
But you know, if my son did adhere to it, if he would adjust his sleeping schedule around it, I would come up with something called CST, a new CST that would be Colby Sleep Time.

00:02:48.265 --> 00:02:52.733
I would keep pushing that clock back over and over and over again till I got some sleep.

00:02:52.733 --> 00:02:54.233
But that don't happen.

00:02:54.233 --> 00:02:57.665
And this whole idea of daylight savings time is as simple.

00:02:57.665 --> 00:03:03.733
It is a simple attempt to try to manipulate our clocks to kind of gain more hours.

00:03:03.733 --> 00:03:09.532
But you and I both know that's not really what daylight saving time can do, because time goes on.

00:03:10.099 --> 00:03:12.466
Time is fleeting.

00:03:12.466 --> 00:03:24.532
And as we looked at that, this series or this this weekend with our students, how important is it just for us who are even older than teenagers, that we need to value our time more and more?

00:03:25.332 --> 00:03:32.400
Because the older I get, the less time I have, and certainly the less time I feels like I have. The days get shorter.

00:03:33.432 --> 00:03:48.566
But something interesting Moses wrote in Psalm 90, verse 12, he says, Lord, teach me to number my days, so that I will have a wise heart.

00:03:49.165 --> 00:04:02.233
Lord, teach me to know how long I've got left on this earth, because time is precious, and because of that I need to live appropriately, purposefully.

00:04:02.265 --> 00:04:06.599
And so our theme verse this this weekend was Ephesians five 1516.

00:04:06.599 --> 00:04:12.000
It says, look carefully then, how you walk, not as unwise but as wise.

00:04:12.000 --> 00:04:13.466
And here's our kind of our key verse.

00:04:13.466 --> 00:04:25.665
Making the best use of the time for the days are evil, that we would value our time as something greater than just what we see on a digital clock.

00:04:26.365 --> 00:04:27.199
But it's interesting.

00:04:27.199 --> 00:04:31.833
Today we we've kind of lost this sense of fleeting time.

00:04:31.833 --> 00:04:34.165
And I think there's different factors that lead up to that.

00:04:34.165 --> 00:04:36.833
But I think part of that is our technology.

00:04:36.833 --> 00:04:40.932
Part of that is our mechanical clocks and our clocks on our phone.

00:04:40.932 --> 00:04:44.065
But there is a device, iconic device.

00:04:44.665 --> 00:04:45.865
It's on stage with me.

00:04:45.865 --> 00:04:49.899
That kind of helped you see how fleeting time is.

00:04:50.065 --> 00:04:51.399
And it's an hourglass.

00:04:52.399 --> 00:04:55.399
So if you bear with me.

00:04:56.165 --> 00:04:56.500
You're.

00:04:56.500 --> 00:05:07.533
I'm assuming you know what an hourglass is, but the lower bowl, the sand fall, or the upper bowl that the sand falls down into the lower because of gravity.

00:05:07.533 --> 00:05:13.399
And as it's flowing, you can visually see second flowing.

00:05:13.600 --> 00:05:21.533
But what's interesting, and what we do know about an hourglass is that at some point this sand is going to be empty.

00:05:22.333 --> 00:05:28.966
And we don't get that luxury with a phone, with a, with a watch, with clocks, because we don't see that the time is ticking away.

00:05:28.966 --> 00:05:30.966
Eventually it will be gone.

00:05:30.966 --> 00:05:33.699
But we see this here.

00:05:33.699 --> 00:05:39.300
And so we've used this this weekend as this image to know that your time is fleeting.

00:05:40.365 --> 00:05:44.199
It's not forever or time on this earth.

00:05:44.199 --> 00:05:44.932
It's not forever.

00:05:46.233 --> 00:06:00.833
And so the main point we're going to see today is that we must remember God and our purpose, or else we will waste our time through distraction and idolatry.

00:06:01.932 --> 00:06:07.033
How crucial it is that we remember God and His purpose for our life.

00:06:07.033 --> 00:06:08.132
And we're going to see that today.

00:06:08.132 --> 00:06:11.665
In Deuteronomy chapter eight, we've got some scriptures.

00:06:11.665 --> 00:06:13.266
Turn with me to Deuteronomy chapter eight.

00:06:13.266 --> 00:06:14.632
The words will be on the screen.

00:06:14.632 --> 00:06:17.033
I hope you can follow along with us.

00:06:17.033 --> 00:06:19.600
We got some scripture to get through.

00:06:19.600 --> 00:06:25.233
We're going to look at as a couple big chunks of of Scripture, a handful of verses back to back.

00:06:25.233 --> 00:06:26.165
So bear with me.

00:06:26.165 --> 00:06:29.766
But I promise you, there is gold in this message.

00:06:29.766 --> 00:06:32.266
The Lord has so much to say.

00:06:32.266 --> 00:06:37.966
This Deuteronomy chapter eight Moses is writing to Israel.

00:06:38.065 --> 00:06:41.132
And if you don't know this story too well, they just got out of Egypt.

00:06:41.132 --> 00:06:43.199
They just been saved, redeemed by God.

00:06:43.199 --> 00:06:46.665
So now they're wandering in the wilderness.

00:06:46.665 --> 00:06:49.865
They've been complaining, they've been disobeying.

00:06:49.865 --> 00:06:54.065
They have been running, running and doing things that God has not told them to do.

00:06:54.065 --> 00:06:56.533
And so God has said, you know what?

00:06:56.533 --> 00:06:59.165
This generation isn't going to go into the promised land.

00:06:59.165 --> 00:07:00.800
You're going to wander for 40 years.

00:07:00.800 --> 00:07:16.600
And so Moses is writing this book as a charge and with instruction that as the people of Israel head into the Promised Land, there's some things you need to know and there's some things that you need to remember.

00:07:16.699 --> 00:07:22.600
And so he writes here in chapter, chapter eight of Deuteronomy, verse one, this is what he says.

00:07:22.600 --> 00:07:28.665
He says, the whole commandment that I command you today, you shall be careful to do that.

00:07:28.665 --> 00:07:36.533
You may live and multiply and go in and possess the land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers.

00:07:36.533 --> 00:07:41.665
So right off the bat Moses says, and this is God speaking, actually Moses just right.

00:07:41.665 --> 00:07:45.899
And God says, if you obey me, you're going to multiply.

00:07:45.899 --> 00:07:47.132
You're going to be successful.

00:07:47.132 --> 00:07:49.699
And it's implied the opposite is true as well.

00:07:49.699 --> 00:07:54.665
If you don't obey me, you're going to get destroyed.

00:07:54.665 --> 00:07:59.865
And so from the very beginning, obedient to set before them that they need to obey God.

00:07:59.865 --> 00:08:04.733
Verse two says, and you shall remember, here's a really important word for this chapter.

00:08:04.733 --> 00:08:19.899
You shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these 40 years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

00:08:20.932 --> 00:08:25.466
So Moses says, you need to remember where you come from.

00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:35.066
You just got out of hundreds of years in Egypt, and because of that, you've been blessed by God to be redeemed and saved.

00:08:35.066 --> 00:08:41.133
And now you're heading into this promised land where you're going to have all of these wonderful things to you.

00:08:41.133 --> 00:08:45.332
But listen, don't forget where you just came from.

00:08:46.500 --> 00:08:52.166
And he used this whole process with them as he as as God says here to humble them.

00:08:53.100 --> 00:08:57.200
And how often do we need to be humbled by God?

00:08:57.899 --> 00:09:07.432
And so you all probably know this just as well as I do, that God will test you to expose what is truly in your heart.

00:09:07.633 --> 00:09:10.500
This was the whole point of this 40 years of wandering.

00:09:10.500 --> 00:09:15.865
God was wanting to see if their love for him and their obedience and faith to him was real.

00:09:17.033 --> 00:09:29.066
And that's why we go through seasons of testing and being tried and going through difficulties, because it's not wasted time, but it's purposeful time that God wants to test our hearts.

00:09:30.700 --> 00:09:52.332
He goes on in verse three, God says, and he that this is now Moses speak, and he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

00:09:52.332 --> 00:09:53.533
Lead the scripture up here for us.

00:09:53.533 --> 00:09:55.633
I'm going to break this down.

00:09:55.633 --> 00:09:58.832
So manna was the bread that came down from heaven.

00:09:58.832 --> 00:10:02.832
It was literally the first instance we have of Uber Eats and DoorDash.

00:10:02.832 --> 00:10:08.432
This was the heavenly dash, the Heavenly Eats, the best delivery service you can imagine.

00:10:08.432 --> 00:10:10.633
God said, bread from heaven, here it comes.

00:10:10.633 --> 00:10:12.166
And they get to pick it up and eat it.

00:10:12.166 --> 00:10:16.066
It had a little sweet taste, but they even complained in where's our meat?

00:10:16.066 --> 00:10:17.332
God, they still at it.

00:10:17.332 --> 00:10:18.566
They had reasons to complain.

00:10:18.566 --> 00:10:21.633
And so God fed them and gave them food.

00:10:22.232 --> 00:10:25.466
And yet even through this process, he was humbling them for a purpose.

00:10:25.466 --> 00:10:35.966
What it says he was humbling them because he wanted them to know that you can't live by bread alone and by bread.

00:10:35.966 --> 00:10:38.299
This is literally meaning bread in this scenario.

00:10:38.299 --> 00:10:44.299
But the Bible applies this to so many areas of life that we can't live on anything alone.

00:10:44.299 --> 00:10:47.299
We simply need God.

00:10:48.365 --> 00:10:54.432
So if you know the story in Jesus's life, when he gets baptized, Holy Spirit sends him into the wilderness.

00:10:54.432 --> 00:10:57.066
For how many days, 40 days?

00:10:57.066 --> 00:11:00.832
How many years was Israel in the wilderness?

00:11:00.832 --> 00:11:07.399
You see the picture Jesus is kind of mimicking a little bit of what Israel was doing.

00:11:07.399 --> 00:11:10.200
And so he's now in the the wilderness.

00:11:10.200 --> 00:11:13.265
Jesus is and he is fasting for 40 days.

00:11:13.600 --> 00:11:15.799
And don't you know it?

00:11:15.799 --> 00:11:23.899
Here comes the enemy comes up to Jesus tempting him when he is as hungry and says, listen, Jesus, see those stones over there?

00:11:23.899 --> 00:11:25.100
Just turn them into bread.

00:11:26.166 --> 00:11:27.666
Bread.

00:11:27.666 --> 00:11:36.899
Jesus looks at them and says, let me quote you a verse that I know man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

00:11:36.899 --> 00:11:40.232
Jesus is saying, I can do without that.

00:11:40.332 --> 00:11:41.200
I can't do it.

00:11:41.200 --> 00:11:43.633
That obedience to God.

00:11:43.633 --> 00:11:46.332
Jesus is saying, I am the true Israel.

00:11:46.332 --> 00:11:49.299
I'm the one who's doing what Israel didn't do.

00:11:49.299 --> 00:11:52.299
I don't need the bread, I need God.

00:11:52.765 --> 00:11:56.133
But before we can say, okay, Colby, I'm with that.

00:11:56.133 --> 00:11:57.765
I mean, I can I can fast from bread.

00:11:57.765 --> 00:11:59.232
I'm in fact, I'm gluten free.

00:11:59.232 --> 00:12:00.432
I don't need any bread.

00:12:00.432 --> 00:12:02.232
I can do that.

00:12:02.232 --> 00:12:03.100
But there's more than that.

00:12:03.100 --> 00:12:04.033
It's more than just bread.

00:12:04.033 --> 00:12:12.865
Because when he says, you cannot live by bread alone, he's talking about food or pleasures or luxuries or things of this world.

00:12:12.865 --> 00:12:16.932
But instead you will live by the word of God.

00:12:18.533 --> 00:12:21.500
So, friends, this morning, the point is this you.

00:12:21.500 --> 00:12:25.732
You can't live by the things that can be blessed to you.

00:12:25.732 --> 00:12:34.033
Your bread, your food, your houses, your comforts, your luxuries and friends.

00:12:34.200 --> 00:12:38.566
You can be the poorest person in this country and be the richest person in the world.

00:12:38.566 --> 00:12:46.200
Because of where we live, we are highly blessed materially.

00:12:46.200 --> 00:12:57.332
So imagine the Israelites are going in to a promised land and God saying, listen, don't forget where you came from because you can't live by bread alone.

00:12:57.332 --> 00:12:58.700
You need something more.

00:12:58.700 --> 00:13:09.732
If we don't have the Word of God, if we don't have God's presence, if we don't have God's protection, the bread don't matter, the luxuries don't matter, the comforts don't matter.

00:13:09.799 --> 00:13:25.765
Because here is the thing about our modern culture the world promises instant, fleeting gratification, but God promises delayed, eternal satisfaction.

00:13:26.566 --> 00:13:31.932
Listen, you can easily go find something in the world that will give you your quick fix, I can assure you.

00:13:31.932 --> 00:13:38.700
You can go to your screens, go to your fridge and go have your experiences.

00:13:38.700 --> 00:13:51.666
And this isn't to knock on all of those things as being bad, but when those things become the main thing, that's when we get in trouble because they provide you with something that is fleeting and won't really gratify you long term.

00:13:51.666 --> 00:13:57.299
But God promises something to you and I that will satisfy you for eternity.

00:13:58.932 --> 00:14:00.000
But you know what you got to do?

00:14:00.000 --> 00:14:03.265
You have to delay the pleasures of this life.

00:14:03.265 --> 00:14:05.600
Sometimes.

00:14:05.600 --> 00:14:07.332
But it's easy.

00:14:07.332 --> 00:14:11.566
I see something, I'm gonna take it right here.

00:14:11.566 --> 00:14:13.533
What we see from Jesus and what we see.

00:14:13.533 --> 00:14:13.832
What?

00:14:13.832 --> 00:14:16.600
What Moses is saying to the Israelites.

00:14:16.600 --> 00:14:17.500
It's all too humble.

00:14:17.500 --> 00:14:19.865
It goes on in verse four.

00:14:19.865 --> 00:14:24.966
Your clothing did not wear out on you and your foot did not swell these 40 years.

00:14:24.966 --> 00:14:25.566
Verse five.

00:14:25.566 --> 00:14:33.399
Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his Son, the Lord your God disciplines you.

00:14:33.399 --> 00:14:42.566
So you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God by walking in his ways, and by fearing him just like a good father would.

00:14:42.566 --> 00:14:48.666
God the Lord disciplines us like his kids.

00:14:48.666 --> 00:14:50.899
If we are the children of God, he is our father.

00:14:50.899 --> 00:14:55.765
He's going to discipline you and we need it.

00:14:57.732 --> 00:15:05.133
So recently, with all the snow and the rain a couple of weeks ago, or like three weeks ago or so, we had some water damage that happened in our basement.

00:15:06.100 --> 00:15:10.133
And so that required a quick phone call to some friends in the church that came over.

00:15:10.133 --> 00:15:15.432
And we swiftly pulled up carpet ripped up the pad underneath.

00:15:15.432 --> 00:15:18.265
So my basement looks like a frat house right now.

00:15:18.265 --> 00:15:20.265
There is furniture everywhere.

00:15:20.265 --> 00:15:23.200
Things turned up, upside down, carpet rolled up here and there.

00:15:23.200 --> 00:15:25.799
And so we have no basement pretty much anymore.

00:15:25.799 --> 00:15:28.466
And so we got to get some things figured out first.

00:15:28.466 --> 00:15:33.932
But you know, it's kind of frustrating because that place sort of became a semi man cave.

00:15:33.932 --> 00:15:35.700
I don't know if anybody's got any of those.

00:15:35.700 --> 00:15:43.966
And especially with having kids, two kids, three and under, you need a quiet place to go sometimes, but I don't have that anymore.

00:15:43.966 --> 00:15:45.500
And so that kind of disrupted my comfort.

00:15:45.500 --> 00:15:47.200
And I didn't like that.

00:15:47.200 --> 00:15:49.033
I didn't like those disruptions in my life.

00:15:49.033 --> 00:15:51.200
And so obviously, I got frustrated.

00:15:52.332 --> 00:16:04.332
But, you know, the more and more I've thought about it, God uses those types of things to disrupt the comforts of our lives because he needs to humble us.

00:16:04.332 --> 00:16:06.100
I need to be humbled.

00:16:06.100 --> 00:16:24.166
If I get too comfortable with my things, in my possessions and my stuff and my experiences, I can so easily if I if I wanted to, I could try to do life without God and just live off my luxuries and comforts and experiences and just say, God, I'm good. I got this.

00:16:24.166 --> 00:16:29.666
But sometimes God needs to disrupt my life to listen.

00:16:29.666 --> 00:16:39.566
God will withhold comfort, to discipline and redirect us back to obedience, and sometimes we need that.

00:16:39.566 --> 00:16:41.966
We need to be redirected back to God.

00:16:41.966 --> 00:16:48.932
And so my first point this morning is this we are called to obey God by following him in his ways and fearing him.

00:16:50.966 --> 00:16:58.232
To obey God and to follow him and to fear him, and sometimes to get us back on track.

00:16:58.232 --> 00:17:01.232
God's got to flip our world upside down.

00:17:02.533 --> 00:17:03.700
And I know where you're at in the season.

00:17:03.700 --> 00:17:05.232
Maybe God's doing that with you.

00:17:05.232 --> 00:17:10.665
But listen, it's all for a purpose, okay? Go.

00:17:10.665 --> 00:17:11.799
So he goes on your verse seven.

00:17:11.799 --> 00:17:13.732
This is Moses writing on behalf of God.

00:17:13.732 --> 00:17:34.165
Verse seven, for the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land full of brooks, of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the valleys of the hills, a land of wheat and barley, a vines and fig trees of pomegranate granite, a land of olive trees and honey.

00:17:34.165 --> 00:17:38.865
A land in which you will eat without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing.

00:17:38.865 --> 00:17:48.032
A land whose stone eyes are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper and keep getting better.

00:17:48.099 --> 00:17:55.665
You shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.

00:17:58.000 --> 00:18:04.000
Those are wonderful things to be blessed by God with all of these things.

00:18:04.000 --> 00:18:06.066
And God blesses us with these things.

00:18:06.066 --> 00:18:09.165
But there is such a great danger.

00:18:10.432 --> 00:18:19.365
So there's a dangerous temptation to forget God when your life is full of ease, comfort and possessions.

00:18:20.099 --> 00:18:23.633
Because everything we purchase and buy has a cost.

00:18:23.633 --> 00:18:25.599
You buy a new car.

00:18:25.599 --> 00:18:27.732
There's a temptation associated with him.

00:18:27.732 --> 00:18:29.000
You buy a new phone.

00:18:29.000 --> 00:18:32.000
There's a temptation associated with it.

00:18:32.333 --> 00:18:43.032
When we get new things and we we enter new seasons, there is a temptation to live up for those things and forget the one who gave them to you.

00:18:43.299 --> 00:18:47.732
See, we can make good things into God.

00:18:47.732 --> 00:18:56.633
Things that is, we take the blessings that God has given us and we make them bigger than what they actually are.

00:18:56.633 --> 00:19:01.432
So instead of to worship the creator, we worship creation.

00:19:03.799 --> 00:19:06.799
By hitting home yet?

00:19:07.032 --> 00:19:19.799
There was such a great temptation in our modern, rich society for us to get so sidetracked, to forget God, and to live for this life, and the possessions and the luxuries and experiences we can get.

00:19:19.799 --> 00:19:25.432
So second thing I want to express to you this morning don't get too comfortable in this world.

00:19:29.232 --> 00:19:33.066
I'm thankful God doesn't let me get too comfortable.

00:19:34.032 --> 00:19:43.400
But if you feel yourself slipping into a life where everything just becomes easy and God just starts drifting into the background, you better watch out because God may be coming for you.

00:19:43.400 --> 00:19:46.400
He may be stirring up your life.

00:19:46.799 --> 00:19:52.865
And certainly I would rather live without God's discipline, and I'd rather just follow Jesus 100% of the time.

00:19:53.032 --> 00:19:55.900
But I'm I'm doing this, and I'm making this as a warning to you.

00:19:55.900 --> 00:19:57.665
Just as God was warning the Israelites.

00:19:57.665 --> 00:20:02.133
And for us, we have just as much temptation as they did when they entered the Promised Land.

00:20:04.133 --> 00:20:06.965
Don't get too comfortable.

00:20:06.965 --> 00:20:08.432
Verse 11.

00:20:08.432 --> 00:20:12.665
We're going to read a handful of verses here. So? So buckle up. Y'all ready?

00:20:12.665 --> 00:20:13.599
Take care.

00:20:13.599 --> 00:20:15.766
Lest you forget, here's our word.

00:20:15.766 --> 00:20:17.465
So he says to remember.

00:20:17.465 --> 00:20:19.432
Now he's saying, don't forget.

00:20:19.432 --> 00:20:21.133
Don't forget the Lord your God.

00:20:21.133 --> 00:20:32.566
By not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today, lest when you have eaten and are full, and have built good houses, and live in them.

00:20:32.566 --> 00:20:59.066
And when your herds and flocks multiply, and your silver and gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied, then your heart be lifted up or filled with pride, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, who led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground, where there was no water?

00:20:59.066 --> 00:20:59.766
Who brought you?

00:20:59.766 --> 00:21:04.066
Brought you water out of the flinty rock who fed you in the wilderness with manna?

00:21:04.066 --> 00:21:10.066
That's your fathers did not know they they might humble you and test you to do you good in the end.

00:21:10.066 --> 00:21:12.099
In verse seven, we gotta slow down here.

00:21:12.099 --> 00:21:24.400
Verse 17, here beware, lest you say in your heart my power and the might of my hand have gotten me this well.

00:21:24.865 --> 00:21:29.200
It was the phrase that I got at work that's got me here.

00:21:29.299 --> 00:21:32.299
Come on, me.

00:21:34.532 --> 00:21:36.700
It's me that's got me to this place.

00:21:36.700 --> 00:21:39.400
I made those good financial decisions.

00:21:39.400 --> 00:21:41.465
I was able to do this or do that.

00:21:41.465 --> 00:21:42.400
I'm really smart.

00:21:42.400 --> 00:21:46.133
I'm really gifted me.

00:21:46.133 --> 00:21:49.133
Look at my life.

00:21:49.133 --> 00:21:53.732
I got the watch, the car, I got all I've got.

00:21:53.732 --> 00:21:56.232
It.

00:21:56.232 --> 00:21:58.066
And God thing even back then.

00:21:58.066 --> 00:21:59.900
Beware.

00:21:59.900 --> 00:22:00.799
Bless your heart.

00:22:00.799 --> 00:22:08.965
Get to a place where you're so prideful that you think this season and everything that you got in your life right now is because of you.

00:22:09.133 --> 00:22:20.732
Verse 18, you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant, that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

00:22:20.732 --> 00:22:32.400
The only reason he blessed the people of Israel is because it was supposed to point back to him, God doesn't bless us so that we could get the glory.

00:22:32.465 --> 00:22:40.000
God blesses us and lifts us up so that we can point back to God and say, look what God did for me.

00:22:40.232 --> 00:22:41.432
Look at my life.

00:22:41.432 --> 00:22:42.500
I'm so blessed.

00:22:42.500 --> 00:22:43.532
I'm so thankful.

00:22:43.532 --> 00:22:44.766
And it's not because of me.

00:22:44.766 --> 00:22:47.232
It's not because of what I've done or what I've said or my gift.

00:22:47.232 --> 00:22:50.232
It's because God has blessed me.

00:22:52.333 --> 00:23:05.299
Verse 19 and if you forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish.

00:23:05.299 --> 00:23:06.400
Are you listening?

00:23:06.400 --> 00:23:09.400
This morning, Valley View Church.

00:23:09.865 --> 00:23:21.133
If your life is built around what you own, what you can experience, if it's built around the luxuries of this life, you will perish.

00:23:21.365 --> 00:23:23.599
May not be now, may not be tomorrow.

00:23:23.599 --> 00:23:25.932
May not be in a month or a year.

00:23:25.932 --> 00:23:28.633
But eternity is coming.

00:23:28.633 --> 00:23:31.633
Verse 20, the last verse for our main passage this morning.

00:23:31.633 --> 00:23:41.066
Light the nations that the Lord makes to perish before you sow shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God.

00:23:42.400 --> 00:23:52.232
Now if I can take what we've kind of talked through here and pointed towards our theme for the weekend, we will waste our time.

00:23:52.232 --> 00:23:59.032
If it is aimed at comforts, possessions and worldly experiences.

00:23:59.032 --> 00:24:14.400
You will weigh out your life if it's all about what you can attain to the job that you can have, the luxuries that you can possess, the experiences that you can accumulate, if that's what your life is built around, you are going to waste it.

00:24:17.165 --> 00:24:24.133
And that's so crucial for our students to hear that, for our students to know that now and not figure it out when they're 50.

00:24:24.133 --> 00:24:27.732
I want them to live the most fruitful life possible.

00:24:27.732 --> 00:24:30.165
That is full of meaning, and they make an impact.

00:24:30.165 --> 00:24:37.266
But for us as adults, some of us are already halfway there to the finish line.

00:24:38.099 --> 00:24:42.700
How how important it is that we use our time that we have left wisely.

00:24:42.700 --> 00:25:01.465
And if you use it for all of these things, you're going to waste it toward Jesus says in Luke 923 through 24, if anyone would come after me, they must deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow me.

00:25:01.465 --> 00:25:04.400
For whoever would save his life will lose it.

00:25:04.400 --> 00:25:09.232
In other words, whoever clings so tightly to their life that they won't give up anything.

00:25:09.232 --> 00:25:10.599
I gotta have my comforts.

00:25:10.599 --> 00:25:12.799
I gotta have my Sundays to myself.

00:25:12.799 --> 00:25:14.333
I gotta have all my possessions.

00:25:14.333 --> 00:25:15.165
I gotta have all these things.

00:25:15.165 --> 00:25:16.333
And I'm not giving it up.

00:25:16.333 --> 00:25:20.500
This is what we look like before God with our hands clenched.

00:25:20.766 --> 00:25:22.032
I'm not giving up my life.

00:25:22.032 --> 00:25:22.965
God, this is mine.

00:25:22.965 --> 00:25:24.799
You gave it to me. I'm keeping it.

00:25:24.799 --> 00:25:25.599
That's what it means.

00:25:25.599 --> 00:25:29.066
If you would save your life, keep your life, you're going to lose it.

00:25:30.599 --> 00:25:32.000
What does he say after that?

00:25:32.000 --> 00:25:38.200
But if you lose your life, you'll find it.

00:25:38.200 --> 00:25:39.865
You'll save it.

00:25:39.865 --> 00:25:48.000
So, do you look like this before God or this before God?

00:25:49.266 --> 00:25:56.500
See, when we become full of the world, we won't have the desire to enjoy God.

00:25:57.932 --> 00:26:02.599
My daughter, three years old and she is smart.

00:26:02.599 --> 00:26:05.599
She is clever and she's cute.

00:26:06.000 --> 00:26:18.599
She has three really good weapons, and she will enforce all of them so that she can have sweets before dinner.

00:26:18.599 --> 00:26:24.232
And I'm telling you, it takes everything in me to say no.

00:26:25.465 --> 00:26:27.865
But she wants the candy, the cookies.

00:26:27.865 --> 00:26:29.532
She wants the gummies. You.

00:26:29.532 --> 00:26:31.299
She'll even want the healthier things.

00:26:31.299 --> 00:26:34.299
You'll want fruit and all of those things like.

00:26:34.299 --> 00:26:37.133
And to say no to that is important.

00:26:37.133 --> 00:26:40.099
Because if she fills up on that, she ain't going to eat dinner.

00:26:43.066 --> 00:26:52.965
Listen, this morning, if you are snacking and filling your life up in this world, you think you're going to be hungry for God.

00:26:53.000 --> 00:26:55.299
If you are on your phone and by.

00:26:55.299 --> 00:27:03.932
And just as a side note, statistically the average American spends seven hours per day on a screen.

00:27:04.465 --> 00:27:09.266
And if we're only awake 16 hours, we get eight hours of sleep on average.

00:27:10.133 --> 00:27:13.500
That doesn't give you very long the rest of the day.

00:27:13.500 --> 00:27:14.833
Seven hours on a screen.

00:27:14.833 --> 00:27:18.133
If you fill your life up from there, guess what?

00:27:18.133 --> 00:27:21.500
You think you're going to be hungry for God's Word.

00:27:22.333 --> 00:27:29.400
If you still live your life with watching football all day on Sundays and spend and then listen, we got March Madness coming.

00:27:29.400 --> 00:27:31.400
I get it.

00:27:31.400 --> 00:27:38.833
If we spend all of our time focused on the screen of our TV for all the things that we can consume and eat up, you think you're going to be hungry for God?

00:27:40.333 --> 00:27:40.833
Students?

00:27:40.833 --> 00:27:46.900
You think you can spend hours and hours upon video games and social media and swipe and swipe and scroll and scroll?

00:27:46.900 --> 00:27:48.566
Do you think you all are going to want God?

00:27:48.566 --> 00:27:52.532
If you're filling up your life with all of those things?

00:27:52.965 --> 00:28:03.932
Because the flashing lights, the experiences that you're going to get, they will instantly they'll provide a little bit of gratification, but it's going to be gone in a second.

00:28:04.099 --> 00:28:06.700
You go to God's Word.

00:28:06.700 --> 00:28:09.700
You get filled up for a lifetime.

00:28:10.400 --> 00:28:17.900
So my third point this morning is we need to enjoy the creator over his creation.

00:28:18.165 --> 00:28:21.432
Enjoy the blessings that God has given you.

00:28:21.432 --> 00:28:29.299
We are not a church that's so legalistic that we say you can't have technology, you can't have the experience, you can't enjoy life.

00:28:29.299 --> 00:28:31.633
No, we want to enjoy life.

00:28:31.633 --> 00:28:34.700
You can ask our students, we've been enjoying things this weekend.

00:28:34.700 --> 00:28:37.133
In fact, we fit just to give out a little glimpse.

00:28:37.133 --> 00:28:46.333
We fit 70 refrigerator boxes in that chapel, and we literally made a cardboard box maze in which students have to climb through above.

00:28:46.333 --> 00:28:48.066
It was pitch black.

00:28:48.066 --> 00:28:48.799
Super fun.

00:28:48.799 --> 00:28:50.932
We had tons of stuff we like.

00:28:50.932 --> 00:29:01.900
We like fun around here. But listen, me, if you fill up your life with all of the pleasures and luxuries and things and it becomes the main thing in your life, you're going to forget God.

00:29:01.900 --> 00:29:07.532
So my point here is this Enjoy God and more than what God can give you.

00:29:10.500 --> 00:29:12.865
Y'all, I promised y'all something.

00:29:12.865 --> 00:29:13.932
I promised y'all some gold.

00:29:13.932 --> 00:29:16.633
Y'all ready for the gold?

00:29:16.633 --> 00:29:30.700
I want to take us through a couple verses here in John chapter six, and it's really important something is going to set up in in this really well in John chapter six, Jesus just fed the 5000.

00:29:30.965 --> 00:29:33.965
And if you remember what Jesus fed the 5000, he put them with bread.

00:29:33.965 --> 00:29:38.432
Fish kept putting things out the basket, hand, hand and pass it down.

00:29:38.432 --> 00:29:44.232
Then he goes on the water, walks across the water, through through the storm with his disciples.

00:29:44.232 --> 00:29:45.266
They get to the other side.

00:29:46.965 --> 00:29:55.900
And then this chapter records that crowd, that 5000 crowd that was filled with all that they could eat with their bread.

00:29:55.900 --> 00:29:57.365
You know what they do?

00:29:57.365 --> 00:30:03.266
They notice Jesus is gone, and they run all the way around the lake to find Jesus.

00:30:03.266 --> 00:30:04.633
Look at these verses.

00:30:04.633 --> 00:30:05.333
Y'all ready?

00:30:05.333 --> 00:30:07.732
Y'all ready?

00:30:07.732 --> 00:30:18.799
John 625 when they found Jesus, him on the other side of the sea, they said, Rabbi, hey, when do you come here?

00:30:18.799 --> 00:30:21.799
It's good to see you.

00:30:22.532 --> 00:30:24.133
Look what Jesus says in verse 26.

00:30:24.133 --> 00:30:26.432
I think Jesus is hilarious.

00:30:26.432 --> 00:30:35.500
Jesus answered them, truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me not because you saw signs, but why you ate your fill of the loaves.

00:30:36.732 --> 00:30:39.732
I know what you're doing.

00:30:40.133 --> 00:30:42.432
I know what my daughter does when she comes up to me.

00:30:44.032 --> 00:30:46.032
Hi daddy.

00:30:46.032 --> 00:30:49.032
I know what that means.

00:30:49.965 --> 00:30:51.165
I got some parents in the room.

00:30:51.165 --> 00:30:55.266
I know when your students are coming up to me and say, hey, Kobe, what's up?

00:30:55.266 --> 00:30:58.266
What do you want?

00:30:59.099 --> 00:31:03.133
I can't tell you how many times I had to say that this weekend.

00:31:03.133 --> 00:31:04.633
This is Jesus.

00:31:04.633 --> 00:31:07.000
I know why you're here.

00:31:07.000 --> 00:31:10.000
You want more bread?

00:31:10.099 --> 00:31:12.400
You see where I'm going already?

00:31:12.400 --> 00:31:12.633
Where?

00:31:12.633 --> 00:31:16.700
We just want where we just talked about in Deuteronomy eight.

00:31:16.700 --> 00:31:29.900
And Jesus said to them, he keeps going, do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life.

00:31:29.900 --> 00:31:35.599
Are you hearing value church, which the Son of Man will give to you?

00:31:35.599 --> 00:31:40.465
For on him God the Father has set his seal on the job.

00:31:40.465 --> 00:31:43.732
And verse 32, because here's where it comes to a center point.

00:31:43.732 --> 00:31:44.066
Look at this.

00:31:44.066 --> 00:31:51.900
Verse 32, truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my father gives you the bread from heaven.

00:31:53.532 --> 00:31:56.532
For the bread of God is the one.

00:31:56.732 --> 00:32:03.400
It is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.

00:32:07.799 --> 00:32:10.799
So they asked the good question.

00:32:11.232 --> 00:32:15.965
Sir, give us this bread always.

00:32:15.965 --> 00:32:18.965
We want it.

00:32:19.365 --> 00:32:20.900
Isn't it funny how they're missing it?

00:32:20.900 --> 00:32:23.200
And it's standing right in front of them.

00:32:23.200 --> 00:32:26.200
Y'all see that?

00:32:26.299 --> 00:32:27.900
I think we can laugh at them.

00:32:27.900 --> 00:32:28.700
And it is funny.

00:32:28.700 --> 00:32:34.965
I've laughed plenty of times, but do we not also miss it too?

00:32:36.432 --> 00:32:44.365
We have the bread of Heaven in front of us, and we keep going to the bread of the world.

00:32:44.700 --> 00:32:46.633
Y'all see that?

00:32:46.633 --> 00:32:47.799
So look what Jesus said to him.

00:32:47.799 --> 00:32:53.032
Famous words I am the bread of life.

00:32:54.099 --> 00:32:55.900
Whoever comes to me shall not.

00:32:55.900 --> 00:32:58.965
Hunger means you'll be satisfied.

00:33:01.700 --> 00:33:05.900
And whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

00:33:08.066 --> 00:33:12.099
If I can bring all this to a point this morning.

00:33:12.432 --> 00:33:21.766
Jesus offers himself as the bread of life, who saves and satisfies us for all eternity.

00:33:23.766 --> 00:33:28.133
There is not a bread of this world that can do that for you.

00:33:28.133 --> 00:33:30.766
There is not a screen that can do that for you.

00:33:30.766 --> 00:33:42.965
There is not a relationship, or a marriage, or a child, or a degree, or a job, or a car, or a device, or a 401 K, or a house or a wardrobe.

00:33:42.965 --> 00:33:47.432
There is nothing that can offer you what Jesus offers you.

00:33:47.432 --> 00:33:53.833
He is the bread of life to give you eternity fully satisfied in him.

00:33:53.932 --> 00:34:00.932
And though the lie of the world is to say, there's something better for you here, don't buy that lie.

00:34:02.799 --> 00:34:04.032
So, fourth and final point.

00:34:04.032 --> 00:34:07.400
Come enjoy the Bread of Life.

00:34:09.266 --> 00:34:12.266
For some of you, that's this morning.

00:34:12.733 --> 00:34:15.932
For some of you, your time is run.

00:34:16.032 --> 00:34:16.632
It's getting.

00:34:16.632 --> 00:34:17.865
It's getting close to running out.

00:34:17.865 --> 00:34:20.233
And look saying out.

00:34:20.233 --> 00:34:22.900
All of us don't know when our time is up.

00:34:22.900 --> 00:34:33.833
But this morning, maybe tonight or this morning is, is is your opportunity to come enjoy the Bread of Life because you've been snacking on the bread of the world.

00:34:34.800 --> 00:34:40.666
My challenge for you is simple are you snacking on the world or are you enjoying the Bread of Life?

00:34:40.666 --> 00:34:43.666
This morning?

00:34:44.432 --> 00:34:51.766
Prince Valley of You is here not to just put on services and have activities for your kids.

00:34:51.766 --> 00:34:54.766
We want salvation.

00:34:55.199 --> 00:35:00.333
We want to see people to come to taste and see that the Lord is good. Amen.

00:35:02.065 --> 00:35:05.233
This weekend we had a student give their life to Christ.

00:35:05.233 --> 00:35:19.800
Praise God, praise God! What's to say that's not supposed to happen right now?

00:35:20.199 --> 00:35:21.300
You.

00:35:21.300 --> 00:35:22.333
You're here this morning.

00:35:22.333 --> 00:35:23.432
You don't know Jesus.

00:35:23.432 --> 00:35:25.666
You've never tasted and seen that the Lord is good.

00:35:25.666 --> 00:35:28.833
You've never taken the bread of life for yourself.

00:35:28.833 --> 00:35:31.000
Today's the day.

00:35:31.000 --> 00:35:32.833
It's not tomorrow.

00:35:32.833 --> 00:35:37.300
You don't know when you're saying is going to end.

00:35:37.632 --> 00:35:45.965
Because here's what Jesus does Jesus and the gospel by believing and taking part in the Bread of Life.

00:35:46.865 --> 00:35:52.932
When your life expires, Jesus flips over your life for eternity.

00:35:54.532 --> 00:36:00.532
But it's a sand that will never, ever end.

00:36:00.532 --> 00:36:02.833
This could be you this morning.

00:36:02.833 --> 00:36:10.432
So if you're here this morning and you want to accept Jesus, don't hesitate and leave without finding one of us because we want to introduce you to the Bread of Life.

00:36:12.065 --> 00:36:13.800
Let's pray.

00:36:13.800 --> 00:36:15.932
Father, we thank you for your word.

00:36:15.932 --> 00:36:27.432
We thank you for the beautiful story, the gospel story that brings in so much truth, the father.

00:36:27.432 --> 00:36:32.132
It redirects us back to to you and father.

00:36:32.132 --> 00:36:39.532
Some people may be in the room this morning, and they've been going through a season of discipline because they've kind of fallen off track.

00:36:39.532 --> 00:36:48.465
They've lost their sense of obedience and following you, and they've been settling for the bread of this world.

00:36:48.465 --> 00:36:54.865
But maybe this morning, father, there are people in this room that need to take a step of faith and say, I want the bread of life.

00:36:54.865 --> 00:36:57.865
I'm coming back to you.

00:36:58.266 --> 00:37:08.333
And, God, there may be some this morning who have never tasted the sweetness and the goodness and the satisfaction that comes from you.

00:37:08.333 --> 00:37:18.199
So if that would be them, God, that you would move, that you would bring them forward, that they would believe, and we would get to see more people come to Jesus today.

00:37:19.766 --> 00:37:31.132
But, father, wherever we're at in our path, in our journey, in our life, the the theme of this weekend is a humble reminder that our time is short and fleeting.

00:37:33.032 --> 00:37:38.266
May we not put off the decision to follow you.

00:37:38.266 --> 00:37:53.099
May we not put off the decision to obey you and to love you, and to seek you and pursue you, that we would make our life count, that we would live our life in such a way that it would brag about you.

00:37:53.099 --> 00:37:57.932
It would lift you up, it would glorify you so that other people would hear and believe.

00:37:57.932 --> 00:38:07.532
Our coworkers, our family, are the people we meet in the grocery store, the people that are surrounding us, that we would be an influence to them, and we would live a life that makes an impact.

00:38:09.565 --> 00:38:22.333
So this morning, father, wherever we're going to respond, I pray that, father, we turn our eyes to you and we turn our eyes to the bread of life, because you alone can satisfy.

00:38:22.632 --> 00:38:24.900
In Jesus name, Amen.

00:38:24.900 --> 00:38:25.432
Y'all stand.

00:38:25.432 --> 00:38:26.333
We're going to sing one more song.
