Tuesdays for Hope with new directions right now on the Liz Callaway show with Nick Summers. Talk for the entire Grand Strand.

SPEAKER_01

All right, we have a big party tomorrow, Nikki. It might be Cinco de Mayo today, but it is a seven-year-itch, movers for mom's party tomorrow.

SPEAKER_03

It is.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I've heard the rumor. And no, I'm not wearing a stupid llama outfit. Quit telling people that.

SPEAKER_01

You're wearing one in the flyer.

SPEAKER_02

But the pictures shows that you are. That means you are. Pictures show that you are.

SPEAKER_03

It shows Liz is too. Yeah, I know, but she made hers a little more flattering than mine.

SPEAKER_01

Uh uh.

SPEAKER_03

I look like some weirdo creepo.

SPEAKER_01

You're warm and fuzzy, Nikki. And speaking of warm and fuzzy, Kathy Jenkins is here, the CEO of New Directions. It is Tuesdays for Hope, and she brought another great guest with her today.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, Liz and Nick. I brought a really special guest today. We are in our, I believe Greg and I decided we were in our 11th year of this partnership with Two Men in a Truck. And I'm not gonna spill the beans. I'm gonna let Greg talk about what it is and how he, Two Men in a Truck, and New Directions are being featured at the seven-year-et party tomorrow night. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And by the way, I wanted to just let you know that it is a Conway Ford Talk Lama Lodge event, so it's official that we're doing warm and fuzzy things for the community.

SPEAKER_03

Presented by HTC.

SPEAKER_01

Which Greg is going to explain, presented by HTC, who is offering a free iPad. And you'll get a raffle ticket for just attending the event tomorrow night, Wednesday, May 6th at 5 30 p.m. at Voodoo Brewing Company at Broadway at the beach, uh right across the street from Dave and Busters. Uh welcome to the show, Greg.

SPEAKER_00

Well, thank you. I appreciate you having me again. And uh I really think Nick needs to wear a llama outfit because I think it's false advertising.

SPEAKER_03

Here's the deal. Nobody asked you. Okay, Nick, why are you being such a boy? So cranky.

SPEAKER_01

Isn't he cranky?

SPEAKER_03

The whole llama thing just grates on. I think you should dress a little crown. It's a little better to be a llama.

SPEAKER_01

Well, there's that. Well, they spit a lot. So they might fit.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, Lizzie. That was me. Do you see what I mean? This is, you know. And see, oh, poor Lizzie. Back to Greg.

SPEAKER_01

Back to Greg.

SPEAKER_03

Greg, you got you got a truck and another guy so we can get out of Dodge? Absolutely, absolutely. Just for you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so as Tell us about movers for moms.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yes, definitely. This um, it's uh, you know, a thing we've been doing here for, as Kathy mentioned, eleven years. Um, you know, it's an initiative that started with our corporate office in in Lansing, Michigan, and we we do this at all of our 350 locations, but um we got up with new directions uh as I mentioned 11 years ago, and we try to collect items for primarily for the ladies in the shelter, you know, and their kids so that um you know they could have a better Mother's Day. Um you know, we try to we try to get items of need, you know, clothes, you know, um you know, deodorants, shampoos, things like that. Um chocolates.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, what are what are some of the things we can get? What are you missing? Because now we're getting down to the wire. So what did your wife say you need more of? Because she is the really the primary person that creates these beautiful baskets.

SPEAKER_00

This is true, and she does put the baskets together, so that's more you know, the baskets are more for you know just like a nice gift on Mother's Day. So that's pretty much covered. I think it I would probably defer to Kathy on what they need.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you have all the baskets filled already?

SPEAKER_02

She was working on that yesterday, which she and and she does a beautiful job. I mean, these are great big baskets filled with all kinds of goodies.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but what items do we need to put in there? Do you have enough items for the baskets?

SPEAKER_00

For the baskets, we're good. I think it's more about you know, we we also try to collect items, which is the primary goal um for the entire year for a new direction. So we've been collecting items. We we've we've actually we have uh daycares um helping us out, uh some churches, things like that, collecting with boxes there collecting items, which they help everyone.

SPEAKER_01

You have a lot of items.

SPEAKER_00

We do have a lot, but we could always use more. I'm sure we're gonna do it.

SPEAKER_01

All right, so what are we what should we focus on for the people didn't shop yet? Um that maybe, you know, they maybe there should be gift cards instead, or what should we be getting?

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I think I think that gift cards are always nice if you know the gift cards are for something specific. And any kind of personal items. Moms out there, think about what you would want for Mother's Day. One of the things that we always have on the list is journals and pens. I think that that things like that, um stationary things that the women can use to um to document their journey is always a good thing. Um personal care items um the you know they they all have phones, but uh but uh you know the earbuds earbuds are always nice. But just um again, think about things that uh you enjoy. You know, we're really good about being able to provide them with all of the the real personal care items. They do enjoy body wash and we get a lot of soap donated, but we don't get body wash. Things that are specialty kind of items, hair gels, hairsprays.

SPEAKER_01

Now, do you are you looking for full size, travel size? What do you prefer?

SPEAKER_02

I you know, uh for the baskets are probably the smaller size things, right, Greg?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that would be good. But you know, obviously we have the boxes, so full size is good too. I mean any any contribution is great.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, any anything is great. And and they are so famous for pulling in with a truck and having these boxes and boxes of things that um that again, like Greg says, we have them for all year. Sunscreen is always nice. It's not something that we generally get donated. But your basic hygiene items, we do generally get donated for all of our people.

SPEAKER_01

Many of these items are not covered under any type of SNAP program, so right.

SPEAKER_02

You know, razors, yeah, yeah, shaving cream, uh, you know, any kind of specialty item for women.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. All right, sounds good. Now, while I have you here, Greg, uh tell people a little bit more about what you do. And um, do you do you have a big announcement for us yet?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I I I think I do. Yeah, so basically we're obviously if you don't know, Two Men of a Truck is a moving company, and now we are getting into storage, which we should finally be in our new building in the next three weeks. So it's been uh it's been quite a journey. Um we are very excited. Uh my office is filling up because we've we've done some some storage there, but it's pretty much filling up with furniture and boxes. So I'm kind of getting pushed out of the building right now. So we are definitely excited and ready to get into our new building.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Now, did you ever pair up with Garage Kings?

SPEAKER_00

Um, you know, we did have a discussion, but we have not done anything yet.

SPEAKER_01

But that's because a lot of people, when they do renovations, that's something else that they do. Is they need to move stuff out and then do the renovation, you know, have it in storage and then have it all be moved back in.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we do that all the time. We do that all the time. We'll move things into the garage, back into a house if they're doing the floors. Um sometimes they'll have pods on site, we'll load it and then come back a few days later. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

So you uh you do things without a truck as well.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And that's really uh what's important is because the some of these items you need leverage. You need to know how to leverage your, you know, the weight of these massive items and navigate stairwells and elevators and steps, uh out the door in you know, I mean Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

It is definitely a skill, and I know not everyone can do it. Right. So yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and everyone's professionally trained and uh and tell us what is the scope of your service, because I talk about you know, you do move people out of state if they need to.

SPEAKER_00

We do we pretty much do moves. Obviously, we primarily we're a local mover, but we do a lot of of interstate moves too, and it's kind of an expedited service. You know, obviously we don't have tractor trailers, but we do have box trucks and we do take people, you know, we've been as far north as Maine and as far as far south as you know, Miami. So we've been as you know west of you know, Texas and Minneapolis. So Wow Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Because there are people that are moving from there. Do you get ever get a call from there to here?

SPEAKER_00

We do, and sometimes we do. Sometimes we will pick somebody up. Yeah, we've we've moved people down from Maryland and things like that. So we absolutely will do that. So for anybody listening in the New York, New Jersey area right now.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, a lot of people are visiting and they're thinking, uh, we need a mover that we just we got a text just a few moments ago, Greg.

SPEAKER_03

That's great. Uh it's from Bill in April, celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary. Said we just called, and two men in the truck are going to move us to North Myrtle Beach tomorrow, thanks to hearing it all about here on the Liz Callaway show with Nick Summers. Awesome.

SPEAKER_00

You guys are awesome. I get so many calls. I think I've told you this in the past. They're like, you know, we've we heard you on Liz and Nick, and that's the only reason we're using you.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm like, Well, Liz has personally used you about a hundred times. Seven and a half. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Seven and a half. Seven and a half times.

SPEAKER_03

You know the half, don't you?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And actually, you know, Greg answers that call in the middle of the night where I'm crying and I'm like, I gotta move down like in two minutes. And um, and that that happened a couple of times actually. Um, once when my garage was overflowing and I couldn't close it. And you guys had to move stuff to the storage because I'm like, I I can't even get to anything. And so then um, because my son was supposed to move out and take his stuff and his stuff was supposed to go. And uh, but no, it ended up in the garage.

SPEAKER_00

That's pretty common. If I driving around as I do, I drive through a lot of neighborhoods on the Grand Strand and I see garage doors open with that are no no room for any vehicle. It's not possible. It's not even a person, yeah. Yes, no.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. And um, you know, and if you are getting a renovation or having garage kings or revive the hive coming over, um you guys will move that stuff out. Some people have the room in the garage to move everything there and keep it safe during the renovation. Um, or if you're doing the garage, move it out of the garage into some kind of storage or pod. Yep. Um, and you can help them with that too. So that's pretty cool. All right. So with this um movers for mom's thing, I you know, I also wanted to thank you for helping us for all of our initiatives that we do with the food drive. Um, you know, we're like, hey, you guys want to be yes, okay. You know, so it's kind of like that. So and you got to meet uh uh Todd over at Voodoo Brewing Company. Um did you go there? Were you the one who went there?

SPEAKER_00

I did not go there. No, so I'm assuming he's gonna be there tomorrow. So I will meet him tomorrow.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, all right.

SPEAKER_00

Because I will be there for sure.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and he's uh a veteran. Uh signed up to serve uh after 9-11, he and his brother. So Todd's a great guy that you're all gonna meet at the Voodoo Brewing Company, at the Voodoo Brew Pub at Broadway at the Beach. Uh we're gonna be there tomorrow, 5.30 p.m. There'll be a uh a happy hour buffet out there. We're gonna have uh chicken wings and pretzel bites and bang bang shrimp uh that you can enjoy free. The whole event is free. Uh you can order uh off the menu, and of course, that's uh extra, extra uh for menu items or cash bar if you want to uh enjoy some libations while you're there. So the seven-year itch anniversary party is honoring uh movers from moms. HTC is presenting it and giving away an iPad. Uh April is gonna be there from Conway Ford because it is an official Conway Ford Talk Lama Lage event. Kathy Jenkins, are you gonna be there? I'm gonna be there. All right. So um I haven't missed one yet. Okay. How many uh two men in a truck people are we gonna have?

SPEAKER_00

There'll be two for sure, possibly three.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Hence the name. Hence the name. Two men in a truck.

SPEAKER_00

Sometimes we use three.

SPEAKER_01

Four guys in a pickup truck. What? So we have to put those down, Nikki. We got another five or six there. Um we want to make sure we have a good accurate headcount for viewers. I figured that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, my wife too.

SPEAKER_01

So sorry. Sorry. No problem.

SPEAKER_03

So put like we didn't realize you were doing a headcount. Yeah, no. So how many, you plus how many? Probably three. So total? Probably four. Four. Plus four.

SPEAKER_02

All right, thank you. And I think Danielle is gonna be there from the family shelter.

SPEAKER_01

All right. Well, hopefully we'll have some celebration because I'm going to cat court tomorrow.

SPEAKER_02

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

I'll go and be ready to celebrate. So I'm hoping I'll be having a margarita. Or actually this is a signature drink. Yes, it's the seven-inch.

SPEAKER_02

We gotta try one. And it's seven bucks for a margarita? No. No.

SPEAKER_01

It's a seven-year-itch signature drink of some kind.

SPEAKER_03

I think it's vodka based, which is fine.

SPEAKER_01

And it has elderberry syrup in it.

SPEAKER_03

It's healthy.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. See, it's healthy. It's for your immune system. Yes. So we so just everybody knows that there will be a uh seven year itch drink that you can. Is elderberry berry also good for an itch? Yes, you're right. You can rub it on. So is the alcohol, by the way.

SPEAKER_03

All right. Until the next morning you wake up and your hair hurts and your teeth itch. Yes. Too many, too many.

unknown

Right.
