SPEAKER_08It is 607 on the Liz Callaway Show with next summer's May 7th, 2026. It is Thursday, the day after. Oh my gosh. What a day yesterday. You guys turned up, turned out. It was amazing. We had so much fun at the Voodoo Brewing Company at Broadway at the beach. How did you guys like that venue? Everybody seemed there. Uh yeah, I asked people. They loved it. They said the wings were delicious. And uh I didn't get a chance to eat anything from the buffet, but Javi and I stayed after everybody left and we closed the place down. Uh he was starving because he was working. He was the roving photographer. Yes, he was. Yeah. Um Grady the intern. He's so cute. Yeah. He came uh even gave me a hug. Oh yeah, I gave him a big hug too. So nice, Grady. Thanks for showing. Yeah, he's a sweetheart. So he's graduating. Holy sorry. And so he invited me to his graduation on Tuesday. So I'm gonna head on up there on uh Tuesday. So congratulations to Grady on his graduation. He's so excited. My goodness. I just loved I could feel it. Um, his excitement. And he gave me that ticket, and I said, I on the top of my head, I couldn't think if I was so I texted him when I sat down at the bar to eat, and I said, I can make it. And he's like, Oh, so I I just felt like you know, he saved that ticket and gave it to me. It was very sweet.
SPEAKER_06So he's really interested.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, exactly. Um, and so uh had to make sure because I I can't think I can't think without my calendar, you know. So um, so congratulations to Grady and all the graduates that are out there. It's graduation season, which is awesome. Mother's Day is coming up Sunday. I loved Melania's speech. Oh my goodness, she gave such a great speech um at the Mother's Day uh celebration there. I have a little clip.
SPEAKER_06You do a little clip. You want to hear it?
SPEAKER_08Oh, yeah, there's a couple of little clips. You don't you might don't don't you have more than one?
SPEAKER_06Uh I'm on rapid response right now.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, they had a couple.
SPEAKER_06Let me see. They had a couple. If um there's a well, it looks yeah, they have three clips.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you gotta play her clips. They're so good. So good.
SPEAKER_06You want to hear them? Yeah. Okay. Let's start uh with the first one on our honoring the military moms. I have not previewed any of this, so here we go.
SPEAKER_00I often think about the brave people who make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. When I went to honor the Fallen Service members from the 103rd Sustainment Command at Dover Air Force Base last March, I realized that words cannot comfort the all-consuming grief that family members and mothers in particular experience. The loss is overwhelming. Although I understand the deep pride these families feel in their loved ones' service to our great republic, I cannot fathom the depth of their sorrow. A mother is awestruck when she welcomes her child into the world. After nine months, the miracle of life creates a fascinating bond between mother and child. With each breath, day by day, this bond deepens, bringing forth emotions never felt before. Quite frankly, these are emotions understood only by women. Only a mother can carry this type of powerful connection with her child, which is also too profound for words. This is a time of military conflict for America, and whereby we honor our selfless and valiant service members regularly. Today is the day we hold their mothers in the highest regard. It is these military mothers who find themselves alone, awake their thoughts in the darkest hours of the night. Of course, we must also remember the mothers with a spouse overseas, praying for a safe return so their family can become whole once again. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And then these these last two are shorter. We can toss these in here. Uh this one. Oh, look at this.
SPEAKER_00Most know my husband as the strong commander-in-chief, but his empathy transcends the role and shape a caring leader.
SPEAKER_06He's looking at it, it's cute, actually.
SPEAKER_00Who constantly remembers each and every American soldier is someone's child. Distinguished guest, please join me with a warm welcome for our president John Clayton.
SPEAKER_08And then he pays her lots of compliments as well.
SPEAKER_06That was a really cute moment. Wow.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. I thought that was really good. Um, there was another clip, and she talks about the bond between a mother and a child. Maybe you could just play that one. That's the last one. I think I found it. That is it.
SPEAKER_00At the very heart of America's strength lies the boundless love and quiet power of mothers. We are the most devoted teachers, gently nurturing empathy, inspiring dreams, and guiding our children towards goodness. We help them rise with courage when life grows difficult. In every hug, every story read at bedtime, and every sacrifice made without complaint, mothers build the moral foundation of our families. In doing so, America's mothers help build the soul of our nation.
SPEAKER_06That's a good line.
SPEAKER_00I pray you find enduring strength as your loved one serves in defense of our freedom.
SPEAKER_06America's mothers build the soul of our nation. Wow.
SPEAKER_08And she talks about how they're the moral, you know, backbone of the family and the bond that you have with your child and the moment you give birth and all that. Um, and so I feel bad for you guys. You guys don't get to feel that. You guys will never know what it's like to give birth. But I will tell you, it is a uh for me, it was a very spiritual moment. And maybe you guys feel that way too, like witnessing it, but actually carrying a baby for nine months and then giving birth is just you just cannot even explain like you it's inexplicable, and you will not feel anything close to that.
SPEAKER_06I will say this from a man's perspective, I have a newfound respect. No, seriously, for my wife. Yeah that that I didn't realize, you know, it's not that it was missing before, it's just something brand new on top of already what I feel about her. Yeah. When I watched her give birth to Nicolina, and that was a really strange time because we evacuated hurricane. Everything was that we had nothing, you know. Everybody knows the story by now, but you know, we're hundreds of miles from home and we're in a strange hospital, strange environment. None of those people, doctors, nurses that we met, we went through the whole no but the whole plan out the window. The whole plan is out the window because God says I have a sense of humor. Exactly. But watching her go through it, and oh man, she was tough. Not a peep the whole time. And I just oh, she was screaming on the inside. Maybe, but I didn't know this. And I just looked at her, and and then when they laid the baby on her on her chest, and and just that that look in her eyes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Let me tell you, I I my wife is, and I know all women are that when they you know giving birth, but I'm just from my perspective, my wife, she's a warrior and and a and a great mother. So, yes, that's all I can say. Because no, I didn't go through it.
SPEAKER_08Well, actually, um Trump talks about Melania as a as a mother.
SPEAKER_06Well, he says she's an incredible mom, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Most importantly, and uh most importantly to her, she's done an incredible job as first lady. And uh she's an incredible mom. She has a little boy who's quite tall. He's a little boy to us, but he's quite tall, right? And he's great, Baron, and uh she takes great care of him.
SPEAKER_03Nice thing to say. Excellent.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah. And uh he was saying this funny thing. He was introducing all these like very strong women um that are moms, and he told all these stories, and I listened to everyone. It was so great and inspirational, a lot of these. But one of the women he was talking about, you know, some of them are like pilots in the Air Force and all that. And one of this one of the women's names was Melody. And he says, I have a funny story about your name.
SPEAKER_06Well, let's see. Hold on. This fire, my fault.
SPEAKER_01We're also honored to be joined by a military mother who sacrificed far more than most. That's Melody Wolfe. And uh, you know, I love the name Melody because for a long time, you know, they have spell correct and word correct on these crazy machines that we use to put out truths, or they used to be called tweets, and every time I wrote Melania, it would correct to Melody. So I'd do things and I work very fast. Very fast. And I'd talk about it, and I say, and Melania is fantastic, and happy Mother's Day, Melania. Our great First Lady Melania, but it would spell correct and word correct to Melody. And sometimes I wouldn't proofread it, and I'd say and I would get just absolute desperated. These people would deserve it. He said he didn't know the name of his wife. He keeps calling her, and I said, What the hell is wrong with this machine? I didn't know about that little feature, but I got that corrected eventually. You know who corrected the military. I said, Come here, you gotta correct this. You're killing me. I took more abuse. She's been called Melody a lot. Anyway.
SPEAKER_06He's so funny. He is funny. He's great. He's naturally funny because he's he's human. Yeah. He's real. Yeah. You know, people, these politicians that stand up there and you know, it's that's what I mean. I just I I feel like I can believe what he says, and you know, even if he's wrong, he doesn't really admit it very often. But you know, there's times he's wrong, but he's you know, he's human.
SPEAKER_08I like him. So uh not only that, but he had the four top MMA fighters um there on another event to talk about the June fourteenth big match. And one of the things they said was, you know, and he says these are the toughest guys in sports, you know, there's no one tougher than them. But he said this will never happen again. This is like the one and only time this will ever happen where they're bringing the MMA fight right to the White House. They're gonna have like four thousand seats set up in the White House wherever. I don't know how they're setting up this cage match or whatever, but they'll have thousands, tens of thousands outside and and jumbotrons all around. They redid the Washington Monument. So it's um, you know, it's all new and beautiful, and it's just gonna be a wonderful event. And, you know, that's Flag Day, that's Trump's birthday. Uh, that's the birth of the Army Day. So uh that's June 14th. That's gonna be a big day. And so uh the one of the fighters, the champion of all, uh, he said that they never got the respect they deserved until Trump was president. And he said, you know, like all the other get all the other sporting events get uh the teams get to come to the White House and get recognized. And he said, This is the first time we've ever been recognized by the White House. Um, and so when you think about that, you know, like when you're sitting on the sidelines and all these other sports are are coming to the White House for their achievements in sports, and you're the toughest people, hand-to-hand combat, you know. I mean, it's really like those those guys are and women, the the men and the women, they're just tough as nails.
SPEAKER_06It's gotta be disheartening when you're watching, you know, fifth grade lacrosse team in Division VIII go to the White House and we're like, hey, I'm the world champ and I don't get to go.
SPEAKER_08So I get their point. Hey, did the uh Kentucky Derby people get to go to the White House? I don't know the answer to that. Because that's like the biggest thing in sports, right? That's like a pretty big Kentucky Derby's a huge event.
SPEAKER_06I would imagine that if somebody wins the triple crown, they'll get invited.
SPEAKER_08But did you ever um did you ever have a chance to listen to the jockey interview after that race?
SPEAKER_06Uh I saw a clip somewhere. He was praising God. Yes, it was beautiful. I saw a clip and then I kind of we were going through everything on Monday, I just kind of spaced that out.
SPEAKER_08He was so emotional. Yes, and he was saying how thankful he was that his mom and his grandparents, he's from Puerto Rico. He and his brother were both in the race, and he was just overwhelmed with emotion, and just I mean, everybody was in awe of what happened in that Kentucky Derby race.
SPEAKER_06And I from last to first it was crazy.
SPEAKER_08And we I I I came home. Um I had I went to I I know what it was. I went to the movies and I missed the race. And I don't like horse racing anyway. But Javi and I were home, it was like eight o'clock. I said, Oh, go see if we can get it on Peacock, you know, like go back and start at the end because it's like 10 hours of coverage. So we we started it.
SPEAKER_06It's worse than a silver ball.
SPEAKER_08No, it's literally I know it's literally 10 hours of coverage. So because it's like multiple races or whatever. So we went to the very end. So if you haven't done this yet, go to the very end. That you know what happened now, but we didn't know what happened. So we went to the very end and we watched it like from when they started warming them up and getting them in. Then the horse that reared up and fell backwards, I was like, oh my gosh, look at this. And that horse was gorgeous, gray horse. And then we watched the race after they reloaded everybody, and it was tremendous. And then the interviews like the trainer, the f first female trainer to ever win.
SPEAKER_06She was so excited, so emotional.
SPEAKER_08It was cool. But the camera that was on them when they realized, like, oh my god, she's coming from behind.
SPEAKER_06She's bouncing higher and higher. I saw that. And then you watch that they do the split screen as the horse, and you can see her, and her energy gets and then she's riding the horse.
SPEAKER_08That's what she looked like. She was like pushing the horse to go.
SPEAKER_06She was so cute. It was great.
SPEAKER_08It was very cute. And her older daughter was so proud of her mom. Yes. And she was holding her little boy, and it was just beautiful. Yes. And I hate horse racing. I know. But I mean, it was just beautiful, the whole excitement of it. And then the owners, they they they never knew that, you know, Golden Tempo would, but the whole thing was uh really unbelievable. And I think his brother was right next to him. You know how there was another horse right there?
SPEAKER_06Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_08That was his brother, I believe.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I know they did a fist pump that you can see it on the field after the uh race was completed. They they showed that. He came from nowhere as well. Yeah, he did great. And and you gotta give credit. I mean, yes, the trainer, and yes, of course, the horse. Of course. A horse is a horse, of course, of course. Anyway, but you know, obviously the the jockey sometimes gets forgotten. I mean, he that's a skill too. It's not just some short little skinny, very, you know, whatever guy.
SPEAKER_08I mean, he's gotta do train for that. Yeah, yeah. And those horses are going so fast. And those horses, like those guys stay steady. It's so wild to watch, and the horse is moving like crazy, and they're like a straight line, you know, right around the um the track. Yes.
SPEAKER_06Best text of the morning. And I know it's early. It's great, it's just for you. Are we late? No, well, of course we're late. We're always late. But I gotta tell you this Mike the AR guy. You know, he's funny. He said, I know why Liz hates horse racing so much. Why? The Kentucky Derby is pretty much Amish Amish NASCAR.
SPEAKER_04This is the Liz Callaway show with mixed numbers back in a bit.
SPEAKER_08It's true. Actually, harness racing. That's for sure.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that that would be closer than that's closer to Amish.
SPEAKER_08Or is it Amish? Amish, Amish. Let's call the whole thing off.
SPEAKER_06Well, the Amish are an acron. But the Amish are in Pennsylvania.
SPEAKER_02We're back. Got a comment for the show? Message us on the budget blinds text line, 843-798-Talk.
SPEAKER_04The Liz Callaway show with Nick Summers.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_08629. I want to thank everybody. Did I do that yet? Because I know I did it on Facebook.
SPEAKER_06Uh, no, not on the air.
SPEAKER_08All right, Nikki.
SPEAKER_06Go ahead.
SPEAKER_08I want to thank everybody for coming to the HTC Conway Ford Talk Lama Lodge event last night. We celebrating seven years. A lot of people were happy for us, and they were like, I was there from the beginning. Um, and uh, we love you guys. And you guys turned up, turned out, filled the van uh for two men in a truck for movers for moms, and and forked over cash donations as well to new directions so that they could buy the things they need for the moms there at the family shelter to make it a really nice Mother's Day. Um, they make more than 60 baskets for uh two men in a truck. They make these baskets for the moms, and it's just an amazing event. We want to congratulate Chrissy for winning the HTC iPad, Voodoo Brewing Company for doing an amazing job with the buffet and the seven-year itch drink. It was so popular that they sold it. They sold out. Yeah, they ran out. Yeah, it was good. Yeah, it was really good. And the wings and the pretzel bites and the bang bang shrimp. Javi and I stayed for dinner. I had a great hamburger afterwards, and it was just a fabulous event. So we want to thank all of you for making it fabulous. We had a great turnout. Uh, it felt like the old days, you know, and uh we just love seeing you, and we met many first timers um and uh some repeat offenders as well.
SPEAKER_06It was interesting because we met a few people. It's like I listen all the time, but I never text him. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So I or never came to an event.
SPEAKER_06Right. Never get a chance to meet them or even know about them because they're just out there listening.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, Sandy was a prime example. Mike came back. He went over to the um he went over to the Vets Cafe to get the Orange Heart medal for his dad, and then he came to the event. Um, and I thought that was cool. And we saw Mark. Mark gave great pontificator.
SPEAKER_06Oh, he was great, always brings a prize for us and Nicolina.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, so uh he's uh he's a sweetheart. Um, and so we just uh love seeing the bou blaze and Magadon and Patty and Chrissy was there, and oh my gosh, help me out. Gordon the golf guy.
SPEAKER_06And his beautiful wife with her hair. We had uh, let's see, Paul showed up.
SPEAKER_08Yes, Paul was there.
SPEAKER_06Hold on a second. Um Lisa the Football Mom. Lisa the Football Mom, absolutely, she brings me.
SPEAKER_08Lisa M.
SPEAKER_06Her godson uh Noah, so that was great. Lisa M and the family. Yeah. And um um yard signs, greetings.
SPEAKER_08Um, Laura Inkpen. Oh, actually, that's not her last name anymore.
SPEAKER_06No, I think it is. I think she's kept it?
SPEAKER_08I think so from yard greetings of the grand strand.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I think we're messing that up. No, I think it is. Is that right? Anyway, I know we're terrible. Why's she got all these names? I can't remember.
SPEAKER_08I want to thank Javi for taking all these.
SPEAKER_06And their family, the hubby, the new newly married Laura Inkpen.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Uh Javi did a great job. Yes, the I will post those pictures later.
SPEAKER_08We haven't had a chance to uh uh my mom through them came, which was nice. Uh your mom came.
SPEAKER_06I know Nikki's mom was there, both my kids were there. We had Doc Dallas was there. Yeah, it was great. It was great, thank you. We had a great turnout. And if we forgot, don't worry. We'll as the morning goes, oh yeah, we saw you.
SPEAKER_08Yes, yes. Um, by the way, um, speaking of um Nicolaya, oh my gosh, Nikki posted this video. I just love it. It's the best minute in the internet right now. Um and I want to post it on our Facebook page. I think I send it to your messenger. Okay, I'm gonna try and post the link also, see if that works.
SPEAKER_06What I did was listen, I I'm I'm up at two every morning. So, you know, as soon as I get off the air here, I'm home by 10 30 at the latest. I have to take over daddy duties because mom has to go to work. I don't get my nap. I'm tired. So when it gets to be mid-afternoon, both her and I are looking at each other, what do you want to do? What do you want to do? What do you want to do? And she was a little like silly, but kind of cranky, like I don't know what it was. And I just think of the craziest thing. So I picked up a guitar and said, let's hit, let's do a concert. Because she likes to sing and scream, you know, and make noises when I'm playing. She doesn't scream. Not a scream thing, but it's just like kind of like a Howard Dean thing. No, it's not that obnoxious.
SPEAKER_08Oh, I posted it. You guys gotta see it. You have got to see it.
SPEAKER_06I can I'll play a little bit of it. Just because it's just to the part where she starts, whatever. So it says, here's my post. Mom is at work, time for a jam session with the baby girl. What do y'all think? She got the goods or what? Hashtag dad life kids rock family jam. Here's a snippet.
SPEAKER_03Okay, let's do it.
SPEAKER_06And she's smiling the whole time. Just doing this little blues thing. Listen to her. Singing. Listen to her. Let's add a couple of good ones.
SPEAKER_03It's like right on time. And she's smiling too. Yeah. She's getting like so excited. I know. And she like wants to do something. I just love it.
SPEAKER_06She's kicking her feet. She looks at me. Here we go.
SPEAKER_05So cute.
SPEAKER_03That little ending. She is so cute. I love it so much. What's funny is I Just listening to it makes me laugh. I know. Me too.
SPEAKER_06And watching her while I was doing it, I was you couldn't get the smile off my face. Because I kept looking at her and she's, like you said, so her face was so such a smile. The whole time. The whole time. So I post some random picture of some stupid guitar I'd like to own someday, and I got 5,000 likes and views, and people are commenting. I post a beautiful picture of me and my daughter.
SPEAKER_08Well, it's literally yet. Isn't it? How long ago did you?
SPEAKER_0612 hours ago.
SPEAKER_08Oh, I well, I didn't see it either. You had to show it to me. Well, I put it on Facebook now. Wow. So you guys have to watch it. Alright. Hey, guess what? We're late!
SPEAKER_04The Let's Show with Nick Summers. Stand by. We'll be back in a few.
SPEAKER_08It's always your fault because you control the buttons.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, well, because I have respect for you, I don't just shut your mic off and say, we gotta go. Give me the hook music and send like get in the club!
SPEAKER_07And there's Liz going, you hear the thing. I gotta keep talking. Something I want to get my face peeled off, and and then I had to go over here, and then the doctor stuck a thing in my butt. And then me and Javi went and had Mexican food and to watch the sun went, oh we gotta go! That's new every day.
SPEAKER_08Pooped. Um, but for some reason I feel energized today. I feel energized today. We had a really great day yesterday.
SPEAKER_06I was dragging this morning, but when you got in, then it was like my energy went up.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah. I feel energized, and um I think we had a really great day yesterday, and Cat Lady Court is done for good. Um, and so that was dismissed with prejudice. Amen to that. So thank you for all your prayers and support. The cats are in a much better place and they're happy, they're thriving, they're well, they're getting muscle tone, they're getting the right food, getting lots of love and a bed to sleep in at night. And um, and we we did the right thing and the and a good thing. And um, for those of you who don't actually know what happened, but um I offered uh a woman who was homeless to uh take care of her cats while the storm was rolling in last uh 4th of July weekend. I remember you text me from the grocery store. Yeah, from the grocery store. And um, because I was trying to find a home for her to or a shelter for her for the storm, but none of the shelters take animals. So I said, Hey, listen, I'll take your animals for the for the day, um, and you can get yourself into an emergency shelter. Um, could not find a spot for her. Um, and so I said, Well, um, here's my number. If you ever need help with the cats, let me know. I will help you. I will also be able to get you into um a shelter situation to get you on your feet and, you know, get you to work and all that and thriving. And she gave me a whole bunch of lies, and I found out they were all lies uh later on down the road. And then what happened was she called me five days later and told me she she uh someone stole all her stuff and she can't keep her cats anymore because they stole everything she uses for the cats. The playpen, because they because cats have to go to the bathroom and they run away very quickly, right? So she uh kept them in a crate all the time, they never walked around. One of them had chronic diarrhea, it never got better, it smells horrible, and the cat was so sick and skinny, everything he ate went right through him, but I didn't know that until I had him in my house. Um, and so she called me up and asked me to take the cats for her. A couple of days later, I got her into New Directions, women's shelter with the help of Danielle and Kathy, and then she failed a drug test, which she told me, I don't do drugs, uh, I'm not a drug addict. So she failed the drug test and they offered her to go into recovery program, which is six months long. And she didn't want to go into the program. So they said, Well, you have to leave and you can't come back for 30 days. That's their policy. If you don't want to, you gotta you gotta you gotta participate in order to be a new direction. Yeah, you can't go in there and just take up space.
SPEAKER_06Why would you continue to repeat the same thing that got you there in the first place? Exactly.
SPEAKER_08So she never told me she failed the drug test, she never told me she got thrown out of the shelter on her own accord, um, because she wouldn't comply.
SPEAKER_06She had a Honda Accord.
SPEAKER_08And she also refused help. She refused to participate in the program and refused drug recovery. She disappeared. So I'm trying to text her because I brought the cats to the vet. The the cat needed to be sedated in order to like check them and blah, blah, blah, both of them. So anyway, uh, she had mentioned her father to me. I called the father. I found him in Manhattan. I found him, I said, Hey, is this your daughter? I've, you know, I'm oh my gosh, you're the lady who's trying to help her. I said, Yes. He proceeds to tell me the true story. That's eight years long. Um, not two months long, like she told me. And the drug problem and how awful and lying and all these things that the drug addiction has made her become. And so he said, Please, can you go find her? She's not answering my text. I said, Well, she's not answering mine either, and that's why I'm calling you. I found out she's not in the shelter anymore, and she's out of the program, and I'm hoping she's not on some kind of binge somewhere. I said, I wanted to tell her that the cats were were cared for and we have medicine now, and we're gonna try and get them on track or whatever. So I go out looking for her for hours. It was so hot. I remember I had to catch a flight at like four o'clock because I had to go to a funeral service um and in Pennsylvania, and I went out and I looked for her for hours, could not find her at every typical homeless camp in the area. Couldn't find her. So I texted him, I said, I can't find her. I said, if I don't hear from her by the time I get back, I'm gonna have to do something with the cats because I was gonna hold them for her during her drug rehab, but she's not showing me any effort to stay in the program. And I that means I can't, I'm gonna be keeping them forever. I can't. I got four cats, I got four dogs. So he said, you know what? I I talked to my son, and we were both he now mind you, the man is 84 years old and dying of cancer. And he said, uh she's been doing this to us, and he said that um my wife on her deathbed, all she did was worry about her daughter, and my do and my daughter treated her horribly. So I wasn't a big fan of this lady at this point, and all the lies. And um he said, you know what, you have permission, I'll pay you the for the vet bills, and you have permission to find her a permanent home. Because I was having trouble getting the medicine in the cats. A couple said to me, I used to be a vet tech, I'm now a nurse. I could get I could give him the medicine. You want me to take take it from here? They ended up adopting both of them. They only wanted to help the one, but I was like, here, they gotta go together, they're a pair, they're a bonded pair. And so um they're Bengal cats, and they're old. They're like nine and eleven. And one of them needed a lot of medical care, acute medical care. Anyway, long story short, um, the lady comes out of the woodwork, wants money for the cats, twenty five hundred dollars. She tried to have me arrested, that didn't work because she gave me the cats. She disappeared, so she abandoned the cats. I went to her dad and said, What do you want me to do with these cats? She's not going in the drug program. The deal was I'll keep them until you get an apartment. She never got an apartment, that was a lie, that she was gonna get one April fur uh August 1st. And she said she would go, she wasn't on drugs, that was a lie. Uh, she was offered a drug recovery program, she didn't go into it, and she didn't, she didn't, she lied to me that she was still at the shelter and dropped me back off at the shelter. She was already out of the shelter, so that was a lie. And so I said, Well, this is gonna go on for eight years with me and the cats. I'm gonna hold these cats indefinitely. I was trying to help her for a a day. Right? And and so he said, Absolutely, if you can find a good home. So I did. She sued me, and the first time she didn't show up, the second time the judge said, You can't just sue her because she doesn't have the cats anymore. You have to sue the new owners. And uh she sued me again, but she did it wrong. She didn't include the new owners in in the way that was supposed to, the way the judge instructed her, and I knew walking in that didn't seem like she did it right, but I was like, maybe she did, I don't know. And so we get in there and the judge is like, what the hell?
SPEAKER_06Same judge, by the way.
SPEAKER_08Same judge. She's like, and I know she's got her number because I felt the energy from the judge. Like, are you kidding me? I specifically told you this is how you need to do it. You cannot keep bringing this woman back into court. She does not have the cats. What are you doing? I dismiss this. And I and I said, Judge, may I say something? She said, Yes. I said, How many times have um can she do this? And she says, No more. It's dismissed with prejudice. She can no longer see you on this topic. And that was it. And then uh the woman, the cat lady, went outside and was raisin hell at the window for the people that work there, but they can't they can't they they're not gonna do anything. The judge's decision is final. Right. And so I don't know if she's gonna sue the new owners on their own. But you know, the judge can't prevent them from doing that. So I told them that I will have their back. And so I want to thank Margaret the lawyer for navigating the ship for me because she did a lot of paperwork and a lot of stuff and um and defended me um pro bono because she did it for the cats. But it gave me so much um confidence and calmness. And also one of the attorneys in her group had told me the the concept of why I I I wouldn't it what I did wasn't criminal because when she wanted the cats back, I was like, oh, I'm sorry, they're in the you know, you you were gone for five days. So that that's abandonment. And so now they're mine by de facto uh they're mine. And now what do I do with them? So if I give you something and I never come back to get it, I don't respond to you to come get it, you know, like it was the best thing that ever happened to the cats, even though the whole thing was a pain in the neck since July 5th. Yeah, it has been a pain in the neck almost a year's months. Yeah, um, it was the best thing that ever happened. I would do it again 10 times over, but it caused me a lot of stress and annoyance. And I don't care because we all did it for the cats. And it it, you know, it was stressful on the new owners, Margaret, you know. Um, and so I want to thank her uh so much because she calmed me down by knowing she knew what the heck she was talking about, right? All these codes she was bringing up, and you know what? All these people doing these frivolous lawsuits, oh my God, I had to sit through so many things. And you know how many people are getting evicted left and right? Like people can't get people out of their rentals, you know, and I feel bad because that person may not have a way to pay the bill and maybe they need help, maybe they don't. But then you listen to their story and you're like, my gosh, you know, you're just sabotaging yourself every step of the way. Like, get your stuff together. And and I would be the worst judge. Because I'd be like, what the are you kidding me? I mean like Judge Judy.
SPEAKER_06Or Judge Janine.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, or Judge Janine, right. But I mean, I I just can't, and and Judge, the judge there, Judge Clayton, she kind of was like, do I have to ask every why do I have to pull everything out of you? Just tell me the story. He's like, I need them out. Okay, and she's like, they didn't pay. Well, for how long didn't they pay? Two months. Well, how much money is that? She's like, What do I have to keep asking you these questions? Tell me the story. And then I'm sitting there.
SPEAKER_06Did you literally have a little faith in humanity at that point?
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Well, uh, Margaret, the lawyer, leaned over to me and she goes, This is why I'm not a landlord. I go, amen to that. Because I thought about it for five seconds once. And I was like, Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_06Well, it's the laws here that make it really difficult.
SPEAKER_08I don't know. All these people got thrown out, so so I mean, they have five days, some of them have 24 days. I mean, you're not paying the bill for months on end. What do you expect? You think you could just stay in someone's house?
SPEAKER_06As somebody who owned a property back in the day, yeah. And rented it. Yeah. And we every once in a while you come across a derelict, but not often, who didn't pay. Yeah. You literally paid a small fee, went to the sheriff's office, they would stick a note on there saying, You got this many days to pay up or get out.
SPEAKER_08Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_06And it was immediate.
SPEAKER_08That is insane.
SPEAKER_06It there was no none of this nonsense. Yeah. Now, if you wanted to get your money, you may have to take them to court, but getting them off the property, yeah, not a problem. Sheriff was right there. Wow. So it is really convoluted here.
SPEAKER_08Like the maximum is five D's and I don't know. Some of them have 24 hours. I don't know what the rules are.
SPEAKER_06I talk to people who've got like a roommate that they don't want anymore, and they've said many times, please leave. You're not paying me, you're not doing nope. It's as simple as if my toothbrush is in your residence, I can call that my residence. And you gotta get a court order to get me back. That's horrible. Well, first of all, what kind of person stays there? No, you're not wanting.
SPEAKER_08One guy had his stepson move in. He's like 40 something years old. The guy doesn't work, he won't go get a job, he won't pay a bill, and he won't leave. And and the man's like And you have to get the courts involved here. Over there, you don't like 60, 70 years old. Like, he doesn't need this freeloader staying in his house, making a mess, and cause such a happy.
SPEAKER_06It has to be some updated laws here because normally you just all right, well, guess what? As soon as that person leaves, I'm changing the locks and done. Stuff is on the front porch. Now that person can take you to court and sue you for kicking you out of their own house. Yeah. It's great messed up here.
SPEAKER_07But anyway, I hey, guess what? Oh, I know.
SPEAKER_06Everybody says you're a saint. I'm not a saint. What you did. No, I'm here to tell you, Liz is no saint. But great what? But great what you did.
SPEAKER_08What do you mean, what? What?
SPEAKER_06Great what you did for the animals. Yes. They're also safe.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we all we all went the extra mile, and um, yeah, it was a village.
SPEAKER_06But and even the current owners are saying on the text line uh thanks to Margaret the lawyer and you, of course.
SPEAKER_08Yes, yes. I gotta go. All right.
SPEAKER_04The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers is coming back. We are WTK. You know, I love it. I was just kidding.
SPEAKER_08I know. I know. My Halo
