Yeah, actually um heavier rain later this afternoon. Um boy, we got some good rain yesterday in areas. I drove through a little bit of it. Um but yeah, all week long. It uh we really uh the best the best chance of of rain is today, but uh until Friday, we've got that's when we only have a couple of storms, and then Saturday and Sunday a couple of storms. So it's gonna rain all week. We need it though, so bad.

At Myrtle Beach at Yacht Club. Remember the man, he was like in his seventies and he got dragged into the pond and killed by the gator a few years ago? Do you remember that? Myrtle Beach Yacht Club?

I believe he was like weed whacking or something along the pond and the gator just took him and killed him.

Um and uh I I want to say that was like 2017. Anyway, so a woman in uh the same community uh she was out there with her one-year-old and two-year-old. And while they were out there in the backyard, this gator came charging and took her 55-pound dog and dragged it into the pond and killed it. And she went running with her kids into the house. Um, so I don't know what triggers them.

I don't know if if they're nesting or why any gator does any particular thing. Um, and I'm not an alligatorologist, so I don't know anything about them. Uh all I know is that people say, Oh, they're more afraid of you than you are of them. And and I'm like, Yeah, not really. I don't think they're afraid of me. I'll just say. So uh I don't want to tempt fate. So yeah. But I will tell you this. I have the snake chaser coming in. And uh he's not coming in today, but he will be here, I believe, Thursday. Awesome. Um, and so I, you know, uh let me see here. Yeah, eight o'clock on Thursday, he'll be coming in. So we'll ask him. He knows a lot about alligators and actually all creepy crawler types um of things that are out there. Um and uh he did he did let me be less afraid of bats because I I had this little bat issue in like a you know, um the gutters, and there was like this like this little like triang tiny triangular opening in the gutter and we're hearing a lot of little things going on at night. And then I was afraid they were in the roof, but they weren't, they were like far from the house, and but in the gutter, and um I heard beep beep and I was like, What?

So I I took yeah, and you know what? You could have a lot of babies with bats. Um he's like, You could have 60 or 70 in there. I was like, What? You know, and then um just for like a week or so there was activity and they were like all flying around and then they were gone. Um and he said, They'll they'll leave on their own. I said, They will. So uh, but I did scroll through his um social media and I saw that the way they kind of have to do it, if you get like if you get them in their in your attic, I mean you could have like hundreds. Oh yeah. As uh they make a way that you once they leave, they can't get back in. And then they kinda leave and um you got all that poop to clean up, which is really bad.

Yeah. So you have to have like all that remediation done and whatever. So yeah, so bats are are good and they're bad.

So my my sister was selling a home in New Jersey and uh had a bat problem in the Oh man. Yeah, she now lives in Ohio.

I'm never hot here. I'm always like freezing. Um so it says here that uh I believe we're having a debate. And let me see here what's going on. Um, because uh says here candidates eyeing the late Senator Lindsey Graham's seat of power in the Senate will get a chance to define themselves on the debate stage today. Untested fresh blood, lawmakers eager to ascend, and candidates who have failed to launch are set to share the same stage and will get an equal opportunity to convince South Carolinians that they have what it takes to take over for Lindsey Graham. Um nine candidates jumped into the race, and uh only a few are qualified for the debate. And uh let me see here. Um the key candidates to watch are of course Darlene Graham, who was appointed to take the brother's seat, her brother's seat uh by Governor Henry McMaster.

Um Ralph Norman, the representative from the North State, of course, Congressman Russell Fry and former governor and congressman Mark Sanford, and Mark Lynch, who ran against uh Lindsay Graham before. Um and so I just wanted to get this. I don't know what's wrong with me today. I can't find anything I am looking for. Um I can't I really I cannot find what I'm looking for. Okay, let's let's get this information. Uh because I did hear that that Darlene Graham is not participating.

Exactly. Boy, that is participating in Senate South Carolina debate. So I just want to get this right. Uh top five candidates announced for geopas South Carolina Republican primary. The candidates invited to participate are Darlene Graham, Russell Fry, Mark Lynch, Ralph Norman, and Mark Sanford. Um it's happening tonight. I believe there's a watch party somewhere. It's gonna happen at 7 p.m. tonight. I definitely have to see this tonight. This is gonna be amazing. But I don't believe she is participating. She said she has um Senate business. So let me look. Let me look. I heard that last night. Um is she or is she not participating? Someone helped me out here. Uh did Julie 12 minutes ago. Is she participating? I think I I think I heard she's not. My goodness, I cannot find out whether or not she's participating. Alright. I'm gonna have to keep looking. I'm getting conflicting reports, so now I'm not sure. Um the debate is going to air on all next door stations in the state. It's gonna happen at 7 p.m. from the Mount Pleasant studio. It's moderated by News 2's Carolyn Murray and Queen City News' Alicia Barnes. Uh the forum forum will focus on topics that are most interested, uh most important to voters. Invited candidates are Dar Dolene Graham, Ralph Norman, Russell Fry, Mark Sanford, and Mark Lynch. Um are they all participating? I guess uh I guess they are. I don't I don't know. I thought I heard she wasn't participating.

Did you say I did mention um who that's going to Carolyn Murray and Alicia Barnes. Um I think they're both from that area, Mount Pleasant. Okay, uh Charleston area. So um I can't believe it's so hard to I I uh heard yesterday who made the cut, okay, but who's actually participating? You can't figure it out. Umerson polling shows uh this is from Thursday. Let me just make sure. Um, yeah, so the Thursday polling, let's see where that is, because that was the other thing I was looking for. Um among lightly Republican primary voters surveyed July 28th through the 29th, Ralph Norman received 22 percent. Then it was Senator Darlene Graham, 19%, and then Russell Fry at 12%, and Mark Sanford at 11%. 25% say they are undecided. The poll found the economy is voters' top issue. 60% said that that should be the next senator's main focus. The majority, 53%, said that President Trump's endorsement has no impact on their vote. Um and 88% said that the debate is very or somewhat important. So this debate is gonna weigh heavily. So people who are interested in finding out more, we didn't have a lot of time to get to know the candidates. We happen to know Ralph Norman because of the fact that he ran for governor, so we learned a lot about him. Um we also personally in this area know a lot about Russell Fry because he's our congressman. But Mark Lynch, you know, he we know him because he ran against Lindsey Graham, and uh, he'll be joining us later this week for an interview. So the other candidates people know of Mark Sanford, but we have a lot of transplants here that don't even know the whole story, and they may find out the whole story about him and the Appalachian Trail and all that. Uh, and then they might say, Oh, I didn't know that about him, and that's news. He thinks it's um when I interviewed him, he's like, That's old news. We've moved on. That was years ago. We make mistakes and we move on, but someone might hear that for the first time, that story, and be like, I don't want a guy like that running for gov uh for senator. But you know what? He finished out his term as governor despite the Appalachian uh scandal. And if you don't know about it, just uh search it online. But uh people were wondering where he was. He said he was uh hiking the trail, but he was actually off with a lover with a woman he shouldn't have fallen in love with. That's what he said to me. Um, and was in Argentina or something like that. Uh so he lied about his whereabouts because what do people do when they're in an affair?

They lie because that's what it's all based on. Yeah. Um I I should have asked him, did you marry that girl? I don't know if he ever did. Um but, you know, uh so people may know him. So there are a lot of names that are familiar, but the person that we really don't know a lot about is the person who's actually senator right now, Darlene Graham. We don't really know anything about her. Uh so I I just think that she has the biggest the the run one thing going for her is is that you know, Lindsey Graham, we we know him pretty well, and we also know that uh, you know, she has campaigned for him and been in his ads. So we know that she aligns with Lindsey Graham, and Lindsey Graham did win by 57% the nomination just in uh when was it, June? So the question I have really is what about the people that did not vote for Lindsey Graham the first time? Who are they voting for? Are they gonna vote for Mark Lynch or somebody else now? I mean, if you think about it, you had all those people voting for Mark Lynch, and now that group is divided. They have choices. They have choices. So now they have Darlene, they have Ralph Norman, they have uh Russell Fry, they have Mark Lynch, Mark Sanford. So anyway, I I just think that's really going to be very interesting to see what happens. Um, but the early voting begins Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and then we vote on Tuesday, August 11th. Um, so if you're if you know who you're voting for, uh text us on the budget blinds text line. We we are just uniquely situated here because we know Russell Fry really well. Some people are like, never Russell, he's a rhino. And I'm like, based on what information? Uh none of that seems right. Uh I think he's been doing a great job.

Yeah, he's very conservative. And I I just why wouldn't you want a homegrown hometown candidate uh representing us in the Senate? I mean, to me, that's such a gift that we have that ability to get that kind of attention, I think. Um and so for for me it's a no-brainer. I mean, we're we're used to losing all sorts of attention to the upstate. Why would we want to do that on purpose to ourselves? So um anyway, it is 624. We're gonna take a break. I have to figure out whether or not she's in this debate. I have I heard last night that she had Senate business, so she cannot attend.

Um, but I don't see any indication of her not attending or attending. Oh, yeah, here it is, right here. She will be in Washington for Senate business and will be unable to attend. So attending will be Congressman Ralph Norman, Russell Fry, uh former governor and congressman Mark Sanford, Greenville businessman Mark Lynch.

Yeah. Convenient, right? Yeah, and then um when she was going in uh to vote in the Senate, people were asking her questions and she did not answer. She just quietly, stoically walked by. So, why is she avoiding media? I mean, that's completely opposite of her brother. Yeah. So if you want it, if you want to vote her in because you want more of Lindsey Graham, you're not getting that. And she even complained a lot about him, about his hawkishness. And, you know, she said, you know, you're not, you're not, you know, you need to focus more on local issues, the economy. A lot of people are talking about just paying the bills here. Sure. You know, as we're seeing cajillions of dollars heading off to Ukraine and going into Iran. Trump was talking about Iran too. We have some clips of that. We'll be back in just a moment.

Uh this is a report on what happened at the Lexington Republican Party um Senate stump. And all candidates spoke there. So I wanted to play this for you so you can get kind of a prelude into what we're gonna hear tonight.

Two years later, I became student body president and the vice president of the FCA. Then I went to Boys State. I went back to Boise State as a counselor. Um so I encourage you, who knows? Maybe y'all will be up here one day in 47 years, and you will be met like Miss Graham. You will be the senator.

I'm right academically. I have undergraduate degrees in chemistry and physics. Sam Shepard. I have a bachelor's of science in chemical engineering. I have a master's in biochemical engineering. I went back because of the conflict between my faith and science and got a doctorate in divinity, specializing in biblical studies and systemic theology.

Yeah. Well, uh I was just looking at the Trafalgar group. Right now, uh Darlene Graham is uh leading 27. So Ralph Norman and Russell Fry are both at 17. Sanford is at 15, Lynch is at eight. But they had other names in the race that people are even running, Evit and Mace. They're not even running. So why are you muddying the survey? You know, I never understand that. Um here's the Emerson poll that I mentioned earlier. This one is uh L um uh Norlene Graham at 19. Uh she is losing to Ralph Norman at 22, and then Russell Fry was at 12. This was at on Thursday. So as um these candidates start crisscrossing through the state, we'll we'll see where they end up. All right, we're gonna take a break right now. We'll be back in just a few moments. From the WMBF newsroom, I'm Jake Reas. In Oray County, a crash involving three cars hurt three people in the Longs community. Firefighters rushed to Highway 90 and West Shore Drive Sunday afternoon, where crews blocked traffic while they worked the scene. The victims went to the hospital. South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating. Staying in the Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach is getting new sand fencing along its coastline, and it could benefit the beaches in more ways than one. The city posted pictures showing workers installing new fences that trap wind-blown sand and boost dune growth. Stronger dunes mean better protection for the beach and buildings, especially during storm surge. The project should be done by the end of summer. Okay, sorry, I don't know. Maybe you can find it. Um Hey, listen, um happening on Wednesday, there's going to there are going to be primaries happening all around the country, by the way. Um and happening Wednesday, there are primaries happening in Michigan, Kansas, Missouri, and Washington. And um the Senate primary in Michigan has really gotten a lot of attention, uh, mainly because of this Abdul El Sayed uh running against this um Senator Haley Stevens. Um this El Sayed is really gaining a lot of I don't know attention, not for the right reasons, but re surveys are showing he's pulling ahead. Um and he's very controversial. Um it says here in a non-partisan Emerson poll this week of likely Democrat voters, 54% intended to vote for El Sayed compared to 39%. And when you look at what he is supporting, uh between him and the other guy, uh you know, remember we were talking to L everybody was talking about Graham Plattiner? Okay, but this other guy, Hassan Piker, this is crazy because he's running in New Jersey. Uh between these two, like left people like the El Sayyed, and when you look at what they're supporting in the way of socialism, and I think they're trying to sell it like that it's socialism, but I I feel I can't help but feel like they're trying to like dupe the people, the young people, because they have such a following on social media. So these kids, they they they want some sort of change, they want to be taken care of. You know, they they want this type of socialist concept where the government gives you what you deserve just because you are in the country. I don't really know. Do you get it? Do you get why kids want socialism?

I mean, what what do they want? They want everything for free and they want to divide up when you run out of all everybody else's money, it's gonna be really bad. I guess it the government just prints more money, right? No, no. That's not how it works. No. That's not how any of this works. That's not how it works. Yeah, I mean, uh you really have to really think about uh How this is going to work out with the the they're calling this a litmus test, pretty much. So this Hassan Piker is drawing thousands of young voters to campaign events. It says here, um, he reaches an audience that traditional political advertising misses. And that's because in Michigan there's a lot of like lefty, loosey socialist type of people there, I guess. Um, and this Piker, I mean, James Carville said, you know, these people are taking over the party. So now we'll have to see how these primaries work out. And it's really gonna determine what the races are obviously what these races are gonna look like in November and how these Democrats are gonna push the conversation, you know, when they're running against a Republican. There's just gonna be a higher contrast. Because I don't really think we're picking Republicans that are like far right. The Republicans running are just regular Democrats. There's no talk about, you know, these far right type of people. Right. Um we'll have to see. They're saying that these lefty, left-leaning socialist type of Democrats are really alienating the Democrats, the centrist Democrats, the normal, everyday Democrats. Uh I don't know. I don't know how it's going. I think it just sets up the Republican Party for success. But the reason why socialism speak is working is because they are corrupting the minds of younger people or people who are glued to social media.

And if you ever watch Social Dilemma, and I always talk about this documentary about how social media works, when you have masses of people tuning in day in and day out to whatever's on social media, and if they just move the needle ever so slightly to one side, whatever side that is, that's a lot of people. It's a lot of people, and that's all you need. You need to just push that quote overton window a little bit. And people think that that's normal, then this is what we should want. They're making sense out of it, they're talking about economic issues, and they're giving these socialist explanations as to why this works. And, you know, we've had conversations here on the air, I don't want to mention any names, but when you listen to what their mentality is as to why they think why they think, I don't really blame them, but it's because of what's being fed to them, not only on social media, in schools, and in other in their own circles of friends. And um, you know, when I was younger, you know, most kids in high school didn't even know who was president. Yeah. I mean, nowadays it's so it's so much of in social media. So if you can move the social media people, millions of people, to one little notch to one side, the impact is can impact el elections.
