SPEAKER_22

Good morning. Welcome back. Hey.

unknown

Hi.

SPEAKER_22

Well, Glenn Dye Radio did a great job, but but uh we definitely missed you, Nikki.

SPEAKER_10

Only you can have you back.

SPEAKER_22

Only you, I said I said we. Who's we? Who else in this building? Oh, wait. Me and they them.

SPEAKER_09

They them? Oh. I know Glenn miss missed me. Now he's sleeping in.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah. It's tough. It's it's a tough job. Um and you know, all the issues that you have where you click on something and it doesn't play, yeah, he was having that problem.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, it happens.

SPEAKER_22

I don't know why that happens to our computer.

SPEAKER_09

Uh well, the computer?

SPEAKER_22

Yeah, when you click on it and it doesn't play.

SPEAKER_09

I know. Why does that happen? It's just a laggy weird thing. It's like you click on it, it sits there and looks at you like, Mahaha! You expected me to work! And then, you know, you click it again, and then sometimes you punch you at kick it in the nads, and then anyway. How you doing? What's going on?

SPEAKER_22

I'm doing well. Today is election day, and Javi and I are gonna head out to vote, and and I know that you're gonna head out to vote.

SPEAKER_09

We are take the whole family, it's a tradition.

SPEAKER_22

All right. Well, you just uh came back from a family tradition.

SPEAKER_09

Yes. We always go on vacation around this time of year, ever since Nicolina went to school. Uh, like full time. So it's like early birthday. So we kind of did the birthday thing. I dressed up the hotel room with birthday balloons, and you know, and she got all excited and it's you know special. They gave her a little birthday button the first day we were there at the uh amusement park. Okay. Go to Bush Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia. Our resort is literally across the highway from the amusement park. So you can see the tippy top of the ride, and you can hear people screaming when you're outside. That's kind of fun. It's cool. So anyway, she loves doing it. She she had the opportunity to go to Dollywood again, and she goes, No, I want to go to Busch Gardens. That's her favorite. So every year she finds a new ride that's her favorite, and this year it's the uh the big bad woof. Revenge of the woof.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah. That was pretty scary. I I I play. I haven't been on a roller coaster like that for years, and I can't wait. Um I can't wait to go back on one of those rides. So every year she gets I'm more likely to do that than go roller skating. So we'll have to talk about that.

SPEAKER_09

Oh, about the surf guy. I'm writing in Liz for Senate, and Liz probably bought a new house while you were gone. No, I don't think so.

SPEAKER_22

Well, that could be true. So who are you voting for? Go to the budget blinds text line, stump for your candidate, 843-798-talk, 798-8255. Uh, or call us. Call us if you want to stump for your candidate. Um, yeah. 843-903-2945. You're not. No. Don't bother. Just text in 843, just speak to the text, you know. Uh 843-79824. We put on this call the show thing on me. I don't know. Nobody, it was supposed to be calling shows.

SPEAKER_09

Nobody calls anymore. Everybody texts.

SPEAKER_22

Uh so uh I did get a couple of texts. Um, you know, somebody, somebody I hadn't heard from in a while texted me. Um, great guy. And he says, Who am I who who should I vote for tomorrow? I go, Russell Fry. We I I to me it's such a glaring choice. Um I mean, I I'm just telling uh you how I feel. Uh, you know, just knowing him personally, and uh, you know, I just I've known him for years, uh for like I guess about 13 years of doing radio. I've always known Russell. Uh and so I just um I I think there's no other choice. Actually, out of all the candidates, I trust that he's going to have the right um the right information, the right knowledge, a steady hand in the decision making because and and be and it's it is because I personally know him. I mean, I don't personally know any of the other candidates. So it's different when you personally know someone and you've worked with them and dealt with them on a professional level, right? Uh you have a a different feeling about someone, right? And so I'm letting you know that my spidey senses tell me just from knowing this person that I mean there really is no other choice. Um, Darlene, I I listen, I'm I'm not too confident in her abilities, and I don't think she gets, you know, the prize of being a senator because her brother passed away who was in the spot. It's just a weird sense of of uh like what do they call that? It's it's not even nepotism, it's it's kind of it's something else. It's you know, uh I understand she was appointed to hold his uh place as you know as a placeholder.

SPEAKER_09

Well, when they initially announced that, I was like, oh, that's cool, but then it morphed into something else. Like, no, no, no, that's not cool.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah, oh, she's meeting with uh the president. I'm like, wait, what? I thought it was for something else, right? But no, no, it was for that. Um, and and Trump doubled down again for Darlene, and and a lot of people um are saying, Why do you keep meddling in our politics? And look at what happened last time. You picked one candidate and then uh everybody went for the other candidate, and then you had to come out and say, Um, hey, I I endorse that person too. That was kind of yeah, it's kind of a bad look. So yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

I agree. And as far as him meddling in our politics, uh who says who?

SPEAKER_22

You know what we all have our Henry. We all have all on Henry.

SPEAKER_09

We all have free will. You d take it with a grain of salt. You know, if you if you really like Trump like you and I do, we disagree with him. News flash, we're not mind numb robots. And it's like we disagree with him on this. We did with the last one.

SPEAKER_22

You know, I played a clip of a woman yesterday, and she said, Trump is a smart man, but I'm a smart woman, and he doesn't tell me for whom I need to vote. I saw that clip, yeah. And and I was like, Amen. Um, and that's exactly how I feel. Like, okay, I I I get and you know how I see it? Trump literally loved Lindsey Graham because he knew him well, and Lindsay was a lovable guy, very charismatic, uh, and he they used to play golf together all the time. So out of loyalty, and um I guess he's he's met Darlene multiple times. But I mean, you know, I I'm sure Trump uh knows Russell Frye really well. Russell was on stage with him multiple times. He's endorsed Russell for Congress and all that, right? I'm pretty sure about that. And so, you know, I think uh Trump will be fine if Russell Frye gets in as senator. Now, Ralph Norman seems like a good guy. I mean, you know, the biggest problem is he endorsed Nikki Haley over Trump. He said that was because he personally knew Nikki Haley for a very long time. A lot of people question his uh quote unquote conservativism, uh, which I think is kind of weird because he was in the Freedom Caucus. So sometimes um sometimes that kind of goes wonky with um like the caucus people because it's kind of borderline libertarian.

SPEAKER_09

I've been watching all of them and the infighting and all these conservative voices in South Carolina.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

All the infighting, all of it, and they all say basically the same thing, but attach those same things to their particular target. Okay. Either it's Russell Fry is part of the good old boy network, and here we go again. I'm just telling you what they say. Yeah, no, I'm I'm just wondering Darling example. Darlene Graham is, you know, the good old boy network with a girl. You know, it's just it's like you people have the same talking points and you're all pointing the arrows at basically the same group of people. Yeah. It's like not all of that can be true at the same time. Some of it, and I get some of it, but they've overblown, and it's just like, you know.

SPEAKER_22

You know, Mark Lynch came in.

SPEAKER_09

He actually came in the studio. Yeah.

SPEAKER_22

Excellent. How was it? Well, he was uh he was a very um um very nice person and uh met his wife. She came in with him also, and I did not know he was coming in. I mean, in the past he always called in. Yeah. So all of a sudden there's a knock at the door, and I was like, wait a minute. So uh so he came in and and I really appreciated that he actually made the effort to come in. Yeah. Um seemed like a nice guy, you know. Uh was saying the things he said uh that were right on point.

SPEAKER_09

I interviewed him when you had to take off. And I thought, yeah, I liked feeling I liked what he was saying. I felt that he was honest, I felt that he felt and feels the things that he was talking about. Yeah, left me with a good impression.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah. So uh and Mark Sanford interviewed him a couple of times. Um you know, he's Mark Sanford is kind of a one-trick pony. You know, he's always talking about the fiscal part of it, which is great, but I all I I kind of worry about like when we need the money for something, we're not gonna get it. A vote for it with him. And I just feel like it'll be just like button heads all the time. Um, and especially over the next couple of years with Trump. So I just need someone who's going to be an ally to American f first policies, right? America first policies has his head on straight in making decisions, and may we may not always agree or question will question a vote, but at least we'll get an answer, accessibility, uh, accountability, explanation. You know, I feel like that that is really important. Um, and I also wanted to tell you that I I saw uh Governor Alan Wilson over at the Autry Benton event, the second annual How was that good?

SPEAKER_09

Um good event?

SPEAKER_22

That was phenomenal. Excellent. Uh because Jason Redman, the keynote speaker, gave basically a motivational talk. And it went a little long. I was out a little later than I thought, um, you know, which is hard on a Sunday night before work, but I don't regret it at all because it was just a great event. And Russell Fry was there, um, our congressman, and our attorney general, who's the GOP nominee for governor, Alan Wilson, was there. And um, you know, Alan's been crisscrossing the state as well. Oh, yeah. Uh, because he's campaigning for November election. And I spoke to him, and uh, I've known Alan Wilson for quite a long time.

SPEAKER_09

Had him on the show a couple times here, and I know you interviewed him.

SPEAKER_22

Well, he said, You have my my cell phone number, text me anytime you want me on. He he says, I'll connect you with uh the person who does all his scheduling. I think her name is Claire, he said. And so he's like, Yeah, he's like, Text me. You want, you know, something comes up and you want to talk to me. And he goes, and you'll be able to do that when I'm governor too. Oh and I said, Well, then you would be the first one to ever say that and actually do it.

SPEAKER_09

I like hearing that.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah, I do too. And he's like, I would like to come on on a regular basis when I'm governor. I said, Well, yeah, that would be great. Um, and so I I am um I'm excited about that for uh for us that we're going to be able to have that that type of um that inroad into the state. Um because right now we have none. We have none. Uh we uh except for Val Guest, our state representative Val Guest. Um and Russell used to come on all the time, just like Val Guest does. Um and so Russell always came on uh and still does. And still does as a congressman. Uh so I said, Hey, when you're congressman, are you gonna still come on the air? And he's like, Yes, uh, which I love. So I can never get Tim Scott on the air. Never. Never. That's why I laughed. I laughed when when I was get I was handed a business card of someone from someone who works in Tim Scott's camp and said, Oh, call them up. He wants to get on, really? I mean, now, like, you know, all these years I try to get Tim Scott on. Um, and and I even saw him on an airplane one day flying into Charleston. We were on the same plane, and I said, I was like, hey, I was like, remember a long time ago when you were running for office?

SPEAKER_09

Before you met your Canadian girlfriend.

SPEAKER_22

Remember, and I said, We um I said I interviewed you, you know, when he ran for office long ago. Well, and you know, now he's supporting uh Darlene, of course, because you know, Lindsey Graham was a dear friend of his, and he says that uh, you know, he supports her. Listen, politics is a dirty business, but you know what? I'm always gonna fall on the side of us. And people are talking about this, you know, this uh the fact that Russell's running for two spots. It's just the way it happened. Nobody planned this. This uh was not planned at all.

SPEAKER_09

Of course not.

SPEAKER_22

No.

SPEAKER_09

And like I said, I stand by what I said initially. I thought that the pick for her to just fill his seat temporarily is a feel-good thing, you know, there's not a lot of damage she can do in six months. You know, she'll just vote a little bit.

SPEAKER_22

How about six years?

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_22

How about the next 30 years?

SPEAKER_09

I I don't know. I don't know anything about her. She doesn't automatically get the job because her last name is Graham. Now, again, whatever.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah, what do you call that? I I was saying, is it nepotism?

SPEAKER_09

Or it's like a nepotism, but I don't know.

SPEAKER_22

I'm not digging that. I want someone who's gonna who's going to fight for us.

SPEAKER_09

Tim Scott's getting beat up in the uh inner circle of South Carolina politics because he uh left DC to go hang out on a beach and say happy birthday to his Canadian girlfriend now, white.

SPEAKER_22

And not do the Save America.

SPEAKER_09

Oh yeah. Hammered. It's like, what are you doing? Get back to work, you bums. Well, it's not only him. No, it's not. I said all of them. Bums.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah. Disappointment. Disappointment. All right. Let's go.

SPEAKER_08

The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers. Stand by. We'll be back in a few.

SPEAKER_22

Look at you keeping on time.

SPEAKER_09

What? Me? I think we're still a little late. No, here's the thing. I always try to keep us on time, but then you talk way past the hook music. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. 14 subjects.

SPEAKER_22

It's gotta be illegal in some countries. No, it's not. I found out. I checked. It's not illegal.

SPEAKER_09

No, it's not. It's just annoying.

SPEAKER_22

Well, that's good because otherwise then it wouldn't be me, right? I have to be annoying.

SPEAKER_09

Change a thing, Trump.

SPEAKER_22

See, see. It's all worth it in the end.

SPEAKER_09

It is.

SPEAKER_22

So I say. Hey, listen, speaking of the end, we're coming to the culmination of the Grand Strand Gas Giveaway with Circle K. Every week, we draw a winner for the $100 Circle K gas card.

SPEAKER_09

I missed it last Friday. Who was the winner? Do you remember? Did you write it down on a little sheet of paper like I do every week? No, you didn't!

SPEAKER_22

I told Glenn to write it down. Okay, I'll look. Look, look on Friday and see who the winner is. Now you can win a $100 Circle K gas card. You can visit. I told him to write it down. Who was it? Uh Anthony Leveric?

SPEAKER_09

Leveric. Does that sound right? Anthony Leveric, congratulations. Yeah.

SPEAKER_22

He won a $100 gas card to Circle K after scanning the code inside any Georgetown or Ory County Circle K store. They do it twice a day. Every day, you can do that. And uh every winner we pick, uh every Friday we pick a winner of that week's entries. But at the end of August, all the entries from the beginning of May get thrown into a pot, and we choose a winner from there.

SPEAKER_09

That's right. You get gas for a year. It's the Grand Strand Gas Giveaway with Circle K. Make sure you go to their website, circle K.com, find a location nearest you. They're everywhere. Also download that app and become an uh inner circle member, and you get uh advance warning on all kinds of deals and things like that, and even contests like this. So keep listening, keep visiting Circle K. You got some time, but yeah, we're getting to the end here. This is the last month. And then we'll announce the grand prize winner on September 2nd, right here.

SPEAKER_08

The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers.

SPEAKER_03

Hold on, Liz and Nick are coming back.

SPEAKER_00

I'm Ralph Norman running for the United States Senate as the proven conservative. In South Carolina, your word is your bond. Too many people campaign as conservatives, then change once they get to Washington. Not me. You've watched me fight, you've watched me vote, you've watched me keep my word. I'm not asking you to trust what I say. Judge me by what I have already done. When you choose your next senator, you shouldn't have to guess. You should already know. Every time Washington spends more, you pay more. To me, there's no greater fight than the one to protect your money. I stood with President Trump to secure our border and to strengthen our economy. That's why conservatives trust me to take the fight to the United States Senate, where we need a proven conservative to end the filibuster and pass the Save America Act to secure our elections once and for all. I'm Ralph Norman and I ask for your vote. I approve this message, paid for by Ralph Norman for Senate.

SPEAKER_06

Are you awake now?

SPEAKER_22

All right. Hey, guess what? Seaside Furniture Gallery in Accents is celebrating 25 years of being a family-owned business, serving your home and your family with beautiful furniture, indoor or outdoor furniture, mattresses. Um, even, you know, if you want to go in there and ask about leather furniture and uh recliners and dining rooms and and bedrooms. I even bought a Murphy bed in a box, which I love. It's super comfortable too. Um, and it's so convenient because you don't have to have a big old bed taking up the whole space in your spare room. You can use it for other things. That's what my daughter slept in.

SPEAKER_09

She loved it.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah, it's real comfortable. My mom loves it too. And uh it's great. And it's great when you have company. But anyway, long story short, they have a lot of in-store furniture that's on sale right now during their sizzling hot summer sales event.

SPEAKER_09

That's right. 15 to 65% off their everyday low prices on all in-store furniture only. They've got the largest selection of lamps, pictures, and accessories as well, where you can save 40% off their everyday low prices. So stop on in there because the sizzling hot sale event ends on the 31st. So stop in there. Two locations, you know, that one that has like a gazillion uh square feet, and that's the main showroom and mastress gallery. How many square feet again? 30,000. Wow! And then the other location, which is uh great because let me tell you, that's where I started because I had this relationship with them as well, and I started doing live broadcasts there.

SPEAKER_10

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, and then they expanded and we got bigger over there, and then of course they moved to the other one. But what is the the actual address of that uh second, that first location, really?

SPEAKER_22

It is um Highway 90 in Little River, or the coastal uh decor gifts and more store is on Highway 17 in North Myrtleby. That's the one! Check them out online. That website is Shopseasidefurniture.com.

SPEAKER_06

The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers is back. Good morning.

SPEAKER_22

All right. Actually, I'm looking at uh Seaside Furniture right now.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, what you see in?

SPEAKER_22

Well, I'm looking for a Um an 84-inch entertainment center. Here we go.

SPEAKER_14

Good gender tower in hell.

SPEAKER_09

Because it's gonna be today. Like it. I know. A lot of practice. What does this button do over here?

SPEAKER_22

Just kidding. I want to tell you a little bit more about voting today because it's so important that all of you go out and vote and who is eligible and who is not. Uh if you voted in the Democratic pro primary in June, stay home. Oh, you don't have to go in. You stay home because you can't go out and vote for this. I'm not trying to suppress the vote. No. Saying you don't have to go. You're not eligible. Correct. Um, if you didn't vote at all for any primary, even if you're a Democrat, you can go. Um, and if you voted in the Republican primary, you can go and vote. That's who can go and vote. Now the polls are open, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. You got 10 candidates to choose from. Uh you have Duke Buckner, Danny Ford II, uh, Congressman Russell Fry, Senator Darlene Graham, Mark Lynch, Mark McBride, Congressman Ralph Norman, Glenn Gail Parker, Mark Sanford, and Sam Shepherd. Isn't that a singer?

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_22

Sam Shepherd. Is he a one that sounds like the crying cat? Uh no, that's Sam Smith. Oh, I was getting confused.

SPEAKER_09

They them.

SPEAKER_22

Anyway, uh, and you knew exactly who I was talking about. Oh, yeah, exactly. He's always crying, that guy. Yeah. Like, is he always so sad?

SPEAKER_09

Uh so annoying. Sam Shepard became the prime suspect on the fugitive. So that's that's I knew I heard that name besides. Okay. Yeah. I was just saying.

SPEAKER_22

Anyway, just go out and vote. Get dressed, get up, head on over there. They open at 7 a.m. Vote, vote, vote for whoever you think will do the best job and represent us well in Washington. I'm voting for Russell Fry.

SPEAKER_09

We're getting you had asked on the uh Texan Linux.

SPEAKER_22

I am now. Well, we can say it. We could say it. I have lots of opinions. I have lots of opinions.

SPEAKER_09

Let's see. Uh yeah, a lot of people voted Fry. A lot of people said they already did early. Uh some people say they're voting today, and not one person has said that they're voting for somebody other than Fry.

SPEAKER_22

Oh.

SPEAKER_09

So okay.

SPEAKER_22

Sounds good. Wow, she Seaside Furniture has a lot of selection.

SPEAKER_09

I know. Hold on. Here we go. Here's your whiny guy. This is his whiny song, too. Wasn't this his first hit like 12 years, 13 years ago? It's not bad, but it is whiny. And he was like all smelt and looking good, and then he bloomed out and decided to dress in makeup was the way to go.

SPEAKER_22

Pudge muffin.

SPEAKER_09

Pudge muffin!

SPEAKER_22

No offense.

SPEAKER_09

No. Is that whiny? Put the proofs in the way it is. That is kind of whiny.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. He's talented though. Is he?

SPEAKER_09

Did he write this song? That's what I want to know. Alright, that's all I got.

SPEAKER_22

I know, but he's always sad and begging people to stay. Like, like, if someone doesn't want to be with you, why beg them to stay? You know what I'm saying? Am I missing something?

SPEAKER_09

No, I'm with you on that.

SPEAKER_22

And so any songs like that, they irritate the crap out of you.

SPEAKER_09

There's a lot of people that identify with that. They feel that in the heat of the moment they can change that person's mind from I hate you, get away from me, to, oh, you're right, I love you. I'm gonna hang out with you longer. No. I I've been guilty of that much younger, where it's like, you know, at the end, it's like, ah, come on, let's give it another try. And they're looking at me like, what? No, with you? No. And then it kind of rings a bell in my head. It's like, yeah, why would I want to be with this person? This person has decided no. And if they're playing a game, well, then that shows me even more that this is not the right person. You know, the game playing? Yeah. It's like, well, I'll make you chase me. Yeah. No. No.

SPEAKER_22

Not buying it. No. Not buying it.

SPEAKER_09

So anyway.

SPEAKER_22

Alright, that's it. Do we have any uh clients that um sell TVs?

SPEAKER_09

Sell TVs?

SPEAKER_22

None of our clients sell TVs. I don't know, I don't think so. No. Conway Ford gives them away.

SPEAKER_09

Right. I was gonna say you should go to Conway Ford. I know the perfect time on my birthday.

SPEAKER_22

So I've been I've been hearing a lot about TVs and stuff like that. Um so I want to talk about that when we come back. I need people's recommendations. I'm gonna have to buy a new TV. What's wrong with the one you got? Um we're gonna put that in another room. So we want to get a new one in the living room. And I want to make sure I get the right size entertainment stands.

SPEAKER_09

Third world problems. I got it.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah. So what? Everybody gets a TV now and then.

SPEAKER_09

The first movie. TV? Well, you know, we got three of them. What are you nuts? Nobody's got three TVs. And now look at us. It's just like a TV in every room.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah, I carry a TV around. But here's the thing. The thing is, I have a TV that's on the on the wall, you know, and I I I don't know where the pedestal is for it. And I don't want to hang this one on the wall. I want to Those are cheap.

SPEAKER_09

I had to buy a new one because I threw away. Where did you get them? I got it on Amazon.

SPEAKER_22

It was like 12 bucks. Oh, really? I could buy a replacement. I gotta see how this TV has a stand.

SPEAKER_09

Just put the name, the brand in, and then say TV tabletop stand or whatever. And it'll pop up. I mean it's under the replacement. I had to because I had to switch. I flip-flopped. TV.

SPEAKER_22

I know, but So you pick on me, first world problems.

SPEAKER_09

But I and I was like, oh, I lost the thing. So I threw it away and I got a new one. It was like there's day.

SPEAKER_22

So um, you know, so we wanted to get a little bit bigger TV, and we heard that um well I read that the mini LED light or whatever. The mini LED TVs are really great when you go larger as opposed to whatever the other one is that it they have now. But you know, there are TVs that are ridiculously priced. Like Q LED and I know I really don't watch that much TV to really warrant it.

SPEAKER_09

There's something else that there's another thing out there. It's like, nah, I don't need it that bad. Yeah, I've got a high def defined definition TV that we purchased as a present from my mother over ten years ago.

SPEAKER_22

Oh wow.

SPEAKER_09

And it works and uh it's perfect. That's that big one that you come in.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

It's above the fireplace. It's like 68 inches, whatever. Right. It's huge. Yeah. The only place it can go is right there above the fireplace. And that's that's fine. Okay. That's good enough. I love it. It's a Sony.

SPEAKER_22

And that's the thing. The thing is, is like what brand, but I heard the Mel Mini LED has like a very black black color, which gives it a very uh uh strong picture. And um there's um like the TCL brand. I heard that's good. Um, but I don't know. I was just wondering, does anybody have an opinion on TVs? Text us and we'll be back in a moment.

SPEAKER_09

And in North Myrtle Beach, now on 106.7. From the WMBF newsroom, I'm Jake Reyes. Continuing coverage with the emergency landing at Myrtle Beach International Airport after a bird strike. Passengers aboard the American Airlines flight described the scary moments that happened shortly after takeoff. The plane bound for Charlotte had to return Monday morning after the crew reported an engine issue. Some passengers say the plane started rattling and saw smoke coming from the engine. Once it landed safely, first responders arrived to help. The airline will do a further inspection before it returns to service. Georgetown County officers arrested four men this past weekend for breaking multiple fishing laws. The men were stopped in the North Inlet area and found to have 15 flounder over the legal limit, six undersized flounder, one undersized sheep shed, along with an expired vessel registration. All four were booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center, and the illegal fish were donated to the Georgetown City Fire Department. For more information on these stories and more, visit WMBFnews.com or download our WMBF News app in your app store. From the WMBF Newsroom, I'm Jake Reyes. The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers.

SPEAKER_21

Liz and Nick, we'll be right back. I'm Darlene Graham, candidate for U.S. Senate, and I approve this message. July 11th, I lost my brother, my rock, and South Carolina lost a great leader. If I could trade this moment to have Lindsay back, even for a minute, I would do it in a heartbeat. But I can't. Soon after he passed, I was asked to continue the work he loved. After a lot of prayer and with the encouragement of so many, including President Trump, I said yes. I can't replace Lindsay. What I can do is carry forward the values we grew up with, faith, service, and hard work. I'm a conservative Republican. I'll bring my own life experiences, my own voice, and my own priorities. I know every life is precious. Prices are too high, and men don't belong in women's sports. I may be new to the job, but I'm ready to serve, and I'll never stop fighting for the people of South Carolina. Paid for by NRSC.

SPEAKER_22

And joining us live is Jared Dillion. Good morning.

SPEAKER_02

Good morning.

SPEAKER_22

You're a little early.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there's there's like no traffic. It's weird. Like usually, usually in the summer, like even at six in the morning, there's traffic, but there's like I just get here fast. I don't know what's going on.

SPEAKER_22

So well, um, I don't know about you, but I'm just wondering. Uh, have you noticed in your part of the world and you're down in that Georgetown area, do you feel like there's a lot less tourism? A lot less tourists.

SPEAKER_02

I mean this year, yes.

SPEAKER_22

You do feel that, right? I feel the same way.

SPEAKER_02

It could be the Canadians. It could be that.

SPEAKER_22

They're mad at us.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, still. Um but um yeah, it's it's definitely quieter this summer. Like significantly. Yeah.

SPEAKER_22

I mean, it was like that last year, and people were saying they were down twenty percent, and I feel like there's even less this time.

SPEAKER_02

We were down twenty percent last year? Mm-hmm. Interesting. Yeah Well, that's not all because of the Canadians.

SPEAKER_22

Um Do you think it's inflation that everything costs more?

SPEAKER_02

Do you d do you want to hear my unpopular opinion about inflation?

SPEAKER_22

What it's good for us?

SPEAKER_02

No, that no, it's certainly not good for us. No, I would never say that. Um No, I mean this you know, this the words that people are using right now, the affordability crisis.

SPEAKER_13

Is that even a word?

SPEAKER_02

There is no affordability crisis. Let me get let me tell you something.

SPEAKER_13

All right.

SPEAKER_02

And maybe you can have people guess on the budget blinds text line.

SPEAKER_13

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Have people guess where inflation is. Like what what the rate of inflation is right now. Just have people guess, right?

SPEAKER_10

Right?

SPEAKER_02

And I will tell you that inflation right now is about the average of where it has been the last 40 years.

SPEAKER_22

But what about the baseline?

SPEAKER_02

Well, that's the thing. You have to distinguish between the level of prices and the rate of inflation.

SPEAKER_10

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Right? So people, when they go to the grocery store, they fill up their cart, and it costs 150 bucks, and they say, gee whiz, you know, five years ago, seven years ago, this used to cost a hundred bucks.

SPEAKER_13

Right.

SPEAKER_02

So they're very upset. But as of right now, the rate of inflation is only three and a half percent. Like I said, which is about the average of the last 40 years.

SPEAKER_03

That's what you want.

SPEAKER_02

And it's coming down. Like, so tomorrow we're getting CPI. It's supposed to come in at 3.4. I think it's gonna come in below that. Um, and I we we just have like this mind virus about the affordability crisis. The other thing is is that incomes have risen faster than inflation, right? So in real terms, we are actually better off. But people are stuck on the fact that, you know, it inflation went up so fast in 2021 and 2022, you know, they go to the grocery store and it's just way more expensive than it was back then. So they think we still have raging inflation when we do not. We do not. It's actually okay right now.

SPEAKER_22

So what is really uh playing into the concept that it is uh a crisis? You know, is it a narrative that's false that they're pushing that? Um or is it the socialists that are trying to get the young people to feel like there's no more American dream that they can reach?

SPEAKER_02

That's part of it. Um, I mean, let me put it this way the inflation that happened in 2021 was for two reasons. One was because it was the pandemic and we went three trillion dollars into debt and just handed out stimulus money and PPP money, right? Right. So that was a massive fiscally driven inflation. The other reason we have inflation is because the Fed, under Janet Yellen, was actually trying to create inflation because it was very low, and they were more worried about deflation rather than inflation. So because of the fiscal stimulus and because of what the Fed did prior to 2021, that is what happened five years ago. That's why we had nine percent inflation or more, and you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. Prices generally don't come down unless we have a huge recession. Like in 2008, prices went down. We actually had deflation for a period of time. So I think people want prices to come down, but what they don't understand is that in order to get prices to come down, it is going to be very, very painful, and I don't think that's really what you want.

SPEAKER_22

So you know, uh looking at the prices of houses right now, it's really uh they haven't those the prices on houses have really not come down. Basically, they've stopped going up, which is good. Uh, but you have an issue with a lot of builders giving a lot of amazing deals on brand new homes, and you have that going against the resale market, which I think is kind of keeping the resale prices down. I I don't know, I'm or or steady, I should say.

SPEAKER_02

Not this that's part of a I like I actually have kind of a broader answer to that question. You know, housing prices. Here, anyway, yeah, same as anything else. If you're a policymaker, if you're Russell Fry, right, if you're going to Congress or the Senate and you want to do something about this quote unquote affordability crisis, you have to have a supply side solution. If you want to get prices down in anything, the only good way to do it is to increase the supply of that thing. Yeah, yeah, right? So more houses. What does that mean for food? How do you get grocery prices down? Well, you want to increase the supply of commodities, corn, wheat, soybeans, stuff like that. Like that's that's the way to approach it. But the problem is that most politicians use demand side solutions. So if you remember during the campaign, Kamala Harris was saying that she wanted to give $25,000 to first-time home buyers. Well, what's that gonna do? It's just gonna make houses $25,000 more expensive.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know, that's a demand side. I do remember that. Yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_22

That is true. And you know, I was talking with my son because, you know, he's trying to think, you know, he's getting ready to prepare to buy a home. And we're going through the motions about how much you need for closing and down payment and all these things. And um he can't believe that the mortgage price that he would pay monthly is lower, significantly lower than what he'd be paying for rent. And yet there is this massive push in the narrative out there for people not to own homes, but to rent and invest money that they would put down on a home or whatever they'd be they'd get more in return on their money in the in the stock market. I don't know. If you've seen that, but there is this big battle of the financial minds between renting and buying. And there might be a time in life that that makes sense.

SPEAKER_02

That's a that's a reasonable discussion to have. I mean, here's the facts the stock market on average for the last 100 years has returned about 10% a year. Houses usually return about 5% a year. So stocks do better than houses. Okay? That's a fact. But the thing with a house is that even though it's not the greatest investment, it does turn out to be a very good investment because people have a tough time saving and investing. But what they can do is make a monthly mortgage payment and amortize that loan and build up equity over time. Right? That that is something that people can do. Now most people aren't cut out to invest, right? So, you know, we have a lot of people in Myrtle Beach that come from New Jersey, that come from Brooklyn. They bought their house in 1979 for $90,000. And they lived in it for 30 years and they paid off the mortgage and they sold the house for $900,000. And they come down here and they buy a house for $400,000 and they live off the rest. Like that's the magic of living in a house, paying off the mortgage, and building up equity over time.

SPEAKER_22

People really don't do that anymore.

SPEAKER_02

You don't think so?

SPEAKER_22

I don't think they stay in a house for decades like they used to. They don't stay in the same job for decades. You think so?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think I I there's that's that's a whole discussion about mobility.

SPEAKER_22

Um I mean, I know I don't, and maybe that's just for my Well, you know, when I see a good investment and I can live in it and enjoy the benefits of it, then I I'll move. But like I I can see me living in this new house now for five years.

SPEAKER_02

Five years, that's it.

SPEAKER_22

Wow. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Wow. Yeah.

SPEAKER_22

I I mean the My Life's gonna be very different five years from now.

SPEAKER_09

I'm sure.

SPEAKER_02

The house I just built, that's my last house. I'm staying in it forever. Yeah.

SPEAKER_22

And you built it that way.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_22

Yeah. Uh mine's an up and up and down, so I'm I'm not gonna be able to stay there forever. Yeah. So it's kind of um, you know, when you think about it. But I think of it as an investment. It's the market's really weird here.

SPEAKER_02

It's weird everywhere.

SPEAKER_22

It is it's a buyer's market here, but in New York, back in um my mom, I always check the market where my mom's house was, even though I already sold it a long time ago. It's a seller's market.

SPEAKER_02

What town is that?

SPEAKER_22

Farmingdale.

SPEAKER_02

Which is where? Long Island. On Long Island. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_22

All right. Uh take a break, we'll be back in a moment.
