SPEAKER_00Oh, are you done with the pre-show?
SPEAKER_03I am. I'm a little distracted because my headphones were in the wrong Jack.
SPEAKER_00Huh?
SPEAKER_03Jack? Hey! Well, Jack, moved my headphone, Jack. What's that song again? Uh Hit the Road, Jack. Yeah, we used to play that every time at the end of a show.
SPEAKER_00Uh oh. DJ show. Oh, oh that.
SPEAKER_03Hit the Road, Jack. Yeah, that song. Don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more. Yeah. That's a good song. It is? Yeah. Alright. Good show. See you tomorrow. You know, we should play that today.
SPEAKER_00We should play that today. I do. I do think that's enjoying it.
SPEAKER_03I guess I miss Music Friday. And since it's Trans Friday, we might as well um play some old music.
SPEAKER_00I almost typed in Music Friday. Google would have had a connection.
SPEAKER_03They'd be like, no. All right. Yeah. Uh yeah, I got nothing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, me either. Great.
SPEAKER_03Good talk. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Wonderful. Yeah. It's International Left Handers Day.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's good for you.
unknownYeah, for me.
SPEAKER_03International.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, international.
SPEAKER_03So I'm And what is it that left handers are good at? That's great songs.
SPEAKER_00A lot of things. You would love to know.
SPEAKER_05Don't you come back no more, no more, no more.
SPEAKER_00It's only it's only in one channel, the singing.
SPEAKER_05And don't you come back no more?
SPEAKER_00Everybody may not be able to hear that.
SPEAKER_05What you say? And don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more. Hit the room, Jack. And don't you come back no more.
SPEAKER_00Hit number one for two weeks. Billboard Hot 100, 1961.
SPEAKER_04Treat me so mean, you're the meanest that I've ever seen. I guess give you shit. I'm gonna have to pick my things and go. That's right. Hit the room, Jack.
SPEAKER_05And don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more. Hit the road, Jack. And don't you come back no more.
SPEAKER_03Great song. She's tossing him out. I know. Usually uh those songs are like, please stay, please stay, I'll be better. I'll be better. Alright, it is Thursday morning, or is this oh no, I mean it's this Thursday. Trans Friday. Sis Thursday, Trans Friday.
SPEAKER_00Do you see how confusing that is?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's it's Thursday the 13th, though.
SPEAKER_00What does that mean?
SPEAKER_03Anybody look at the meteor shower that was going on?
SPEAKER_00Nope.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, me neither.
SPEAKER_00I was told to play this for you.
SPEAKER_03What is it?
SPEAKER_00Uh it's ACDC. The song is called She's Got the Jack.
SPEAKER_02That could be the beat. She's got the Jack.
SPEAKER_01She's got the Jack. She's got the Jack.
SPEAKER_00And who knows what else? She's got the Jack.
SPEAKER_04Alright, there you go. That's it.
SPEAKER_00What is that song about?
SPEAKER_03Uh poker playing, as far as you know. Oh, oh, oh, oh. What what what do you what is the double entendre? Probably S E X. Well, I don't get it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It doesn't matter. You don't have to get it. It wasn't written for you. She's got the Jack.
SPEAKER_01She's got the Jack.
SPEAKER_03She gave me the queen. Yeah. She gave me the king. She was wheeling and dealing, just doing her thing. Oh. You know, that reminds me of I think there was a uh there was some little bluesy solo here.
SPEAKER_00Such a great hold on. That's great. People bag on uh Angus Young. Really a great guitar player. That was a good one.
SPEAKER_03Wait till you see me rip my guitar. I can't wait. Is that a guitar you can rip on? Face with her nature. Sure! Absolutely. It looks too like pretty.
SPEAKER_00No, you wouldn't believe you wouldn't believe guitars like that? Yeah. Some players that can just jam on us. Really? Jazz players, blues players.
SPEAKER_03I wonder if I got it in me.
SPEAKER_05I don't know if you close her eyes.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna try them. One day when I have nothing else to do. When is that gonna happen? I don't know. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00So here's the deal.
SPEAKER_03I'm so stressed out.
SPEAKER_00I know you are. I can tell. I can tell. I'm waiting for you to start humming Amazing Grace. It's coming any moment.
SPEAKER_03And poor Javi, he's so um cool as a cucumber, but um until he's met me, he's like, can we just relax? We're probably like you gotta see what my house looks like. I can imagine. There's boxes every empty boxes. I haven't even filled them yet. And we had uh Keith from Two Men in a Truck come over yesterday, and I think he started to cry. Then I was like, Don't you cry too? No, he didn't cry. He's like, I got you, no problem. How about we do this over the course of five days? See? No, it's gonna be over the course of two days. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, because two men and the truck. Yes two days. Two days.
SPEAKER_03No, the reason why we're doing it that way is because the our problem is the garage, we're gonna have garage kings do the garage before we move in because we have no storage in the house and nowhere to put anything. So everything will just be piled up on the floor and what then I have to take it all out again and then have Garage Kings come. So I said, how about we just move the contents of the home? Well, actually they suggest it because I said to them, Garage Kings is not gonna come until the middle of September. Um I you know, I'm pushing it till the middle of September because I don't want to order everything until I know I have a closing date.
SPEAKER_00When do you think that's going to be?
SPEAKER_03So the closing date is most likely I didn't get the d definitive of August 26th. Okay. Um and don't they have something? No, the 28th. So we're moving on the 29th. Okay. But the thing is, the the thing is, is that um, you know, I have to You know the thing, man. I have to sign off on Garage Kings, and I said, listen, I don't want to sign off and have you order everything, and then the date is not there. You know, it's not happening. So I said, I just I just need to I don't want to jump the gun. So it and but that pushes everything off a little bit because I'm ordering all that um whatchamacallit? Um you know, the storage. Right, right. Yeah. So you know that you have to order that. And they and then it has to come in, and then you know, you schedule a date and all that stuff. So I don't want to put everything in the garage and then have to move it all out. You know what I mean? And I and if if I'm my house will be up for sale at that point, and you know, it's not gonna be a big deal if there's stuff in the garage. The rest of the house will be empty. Anyway, so I'm stressed out. I know.
SPEAKER_00I can tell. I'm just gonna do my best to stay out of your way.
SPEAKER_03Highly stressed. Oh, stay out of my way. That's not gonna help me.
SPEAKER_00That is. Well, I mean, I'll do my thing here and keep it, you know, try to keep as less pressure off of you as possible.
SPEAKER_03Hey, hey. Because you don't you don't need the extra stress. No, but you know what I need? I need time.
SPEAKER_00I thought you were gonna say breakfast. Because I was gonna say I agree.
SPEAKER_03My son gave me a Panera gift card for uh my birthday. Oh, well don't use it on me. We should cash in and get some bread.
SPEAKER_00You and your no, you and your hubby should have that.
SPEAKER_03Uh it's kind of out of the way. Panera bread's like far away.
SPEAKER_00How far away is it?
SPEAKER_03Is it like way up in North Myrtle Beach? No, it's like all the way to 544.
SPEAKER_00All the way up.
SPEAKER_03So crowded nobody goes there anymore. Right. How is that um Trader Joe's doing anyway?
SPEAKER_00I have no idea. I've never gone in. I you know, I was going to, and then it was like, I'm not going in there. It's like all a million people. I'm not going in there. Every time? Well, the one time I don't go there. The one time it was a moment. One time. Listen, I don't do anything. You know what I do? I go home and I get, you know, I'm dad. And then I come here and I'm like this radio idiot. And then I'm back home doing dad idiot stuff. You know, that's all I do. I don't do anything else. I went to Virginia. I was like, what am I doing with myself? I'm out of state. I'm five miles outside of my radius.
SPEAKER_03You know? Did you learn anything new?
SPEAKER_00No. Well, yes, yes. There are stupid people everywhere.
SPEAKER_03That's like that's I learned that. Yeah. Well, they say if you know, if you don't learn anything new, that your brain starts to shrink.
SPEAKER_01Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_03So you need to be constantly, um I I I learned a couple of things. Like you have to learn something new. So let's say, like, playing a different instrument or learning a language. Um, and you know, you know that OLI program we have. The uh did you ever hear of the OLI program? It's kind of a great thing. I I try to tell everybody about it. I wish I could take advantage of it. But um the or the Ollie program, if if you haven't heard of it, it's O L L I. Um, it's um, I don't know what it stands for. OSHER LIFE LONG Learning Institute. OLI. OLLI. And uh they have one like everywhere. Um, like every county has their own thing going on, and CCU has something to do with it, something like that. They have lots of programs and activities, clubs and interest groups. They even go on trips, which is awesome. They have lectures and special events, courses. Um I can click on browse courses here. Uh registration begins uh um let me see a membership. Oh, if you're a member, it begins August 19th. And if you are just a regular person just try checking it out, it'll be August 25th. By the way, that's the day of election day for the special election. That's right. Runoff. That's right. Yeah. Um, and there's there are classes on the main campus at HGTC, North Strand, via Zoom, or go to Osher Online. Um, and so you can click on whichever button and uh see, you know, if you only want to attend classes in a certain place, you can do that as well. You know what I mean? So you don't have to worry about it. And by the way, I I think there's that program where like what is it, over 65, you get to go to college free or something?
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_03You never knew about that?
SPEAKER_00No. I guess I gotta wait quite a few more years.
SPEAKER_03You have to tell a hobby to start. Um it's uh here it is. Uh senior citizens age 60 and older who meet the South Carolina residency requirements may be eligible to attend classes on a space availability basis without payment of tuition. Excludes the required course course fees. You may have to pay some fees, provided that the applicant meets the regular admission requirements and other standards of the university. Senior citizens must complete either the non-degree student application or freshman or transfer application, depending on the status of enrollment that is desired. Senior citizens may register for classes under the free tuition provision the day prior to the first class, first day of class for the current term. Did you know that? I did not. You're pretty close. You're almost 60. So are you, Grandma? You're almost 60. How old are you gonna be? Are you gonna be 58 this year? I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Important to you to keep bringing up ages.
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm just saying, are how close are you? I don't know. Javi's gonna be 64.
SPEAKER_00People are telling us there's a Panera in Carolina Forest. Too far. It's too far. I'm not going all the way.
SPEAKER_03Panera in Carolina Forest?
SPEAKER_00Too far.
unknownWhere?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Too far.
SPEAKER_03It's too far. I don't drive around. You know, like when you don't go a certain way for a while?
SPEAKER_00Uh 501 across from Kroger. Too far! Really? You can't go. Really? If it's not around the corner, less than 100 feet away, it's too far. That's a lot closer. Well, I know, but we got this whole thing going on. Neither one of us can go.
SPEAKER_03Do you think that's a lot closer than 544 from here?
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I'd have to look on a map.
SPEAKER_00Pay attention.
SPEAKER_03I d when do they open a Panera there?
SPEAKER_00It's probably been there for 50 years. You have no idea. You're dirt.
SPEAKER_03No, I just I haven't gone up that way in so long. Um, let me see. South Commons, Debo Drive. Oh, I guess there's one in North Myrtle, too.
SPEAKER_00I told you that one's really far away. I mean, we need at least a day of vacation to go.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, look at that. There's one right on Debo Drive.
SPEAKER_00It's next to Krispy Kreme. Yes, closer, says Chrissy. Wow. There's a Krispy Kreme over there? I never looked to the left and I'm going north on 501. I never looked to the left.
SPEAKER_03But you saw the food lion on 544 and I did it.
SPEAKER_00That's different than 501. I saw the food lion and it saw me.
SPEAKER_03Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00Uh Julie says it's been there a long time.
SPEAKER_03What has?
SPEAKER_00The Panera.
SPEAKER_03Really? Yeah. Why does it only have two stars and Yelp?
SPEAKER_04I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Because nobody goes there anymore.
SPEAKER_00It's on the wrong side of the road.
SPEAKER_03It's on the wrong side of the road.
SPEAKER_00Is it?
SPEAKER_03Well, for me. Oh, it is on that side of the road.
SPEAKER_00I don't look over there. You know what the first time I looked over there? It's like, what's being built? Oh. That's what's being built. Remember? What's the name of that place that just went up there?
SPEAKER_03Where?
SPEAKER_00Over there. You know? All the way over there.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it's just past Carolina Forest Boulevard on the left. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Wow. What is the no, there's one closer. Krispy Kreme. That's not as far as Carolina Forest Boulevard.
SPEAKER_03No, I'm saying It depends which way you're coming from.
SPEAKER_00Oh. Well, yeah, yeah, it's over there. It's kind of across diagonal. What is the name of that discount store? It's across from the Bojangles. What's the name of the discount store? It just opened up. No, it just opened up. BJ's? Yes, thank you. Yeah. Here's that. That's the right over there by the Krispy Kreme on the other side. That's the first time I looked in that direction. 501. Going north. Going away from the beach on the left for left hander's day.
SPEAKER_03Okay, south side.
SPEAKER_00South side, yes. 501. First time I looked in the side.
SPEAKER_03Same side Panera Bread is on. Right, but I didn't notice that.
SPEAKER_00I only noticed what's going up over there. Oh, pretty cool. I said to my wife, we're gonna become members. No, we don't.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, that's before.
SPEAKER_00Right. Mm-hmm. All right, that's it. I am so confused and I have a headache.
SPEAKER_05This is the Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers.
SPEAKER_03Better than talking about news.
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_03There's news? Yeah, there's news.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's news to me.
SPEAKER_03Well, yes, it is.
SPEAKER_00People are gonna tune in for this on YouTube to watch all four hours of it.
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm telling you, it's like what are we gonna talk about? They're mad at Trump, once again. There's fraud, so what? We have sexual exploitation of minors, multiple stories.
SPEAKER_01That's not good.
SPEAKER_03Um, we have what else? We have car wrecks, we have people arrested for murder. I feel like I talk about the same thing every day. And it's like, why is that happening? All these horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible things. That's the news business. I disagree. Good news. Why don't we do a good news show? Okay. How about only good news today?
SPEAKER_00Hey, here's my piece of good news. What's your good news? Kamala Harris is not the president. That's all.
SPEAKER_03All right. How do we talk about nothing and still be late? Speaking of Jack, we won Jack in the uh Powerball Jackpot. Nobody won? No, somebody won. We won Jack.
SPEAKER_00I forgot to buy a ticket.
SPEAKER_03Uh one billion dollar ticket.
SPEAKER_00Well, at least I don't have to buy one on Saturday or Friday.
SPEAKER_03Sold in Illinois. Illinois? Illinois. Oh, wow. Illinois. The high V gas station in Quincy.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I know what I mean. You know where that is? Yeah, I do.
SPEAKER_03Uh the winner can choose the estimated one billion dollar annuity. Annuity? Or a 450 and a half million dollar lump sum cash option before taxes. And uh after months of rollovers, the prize became one of the largest jackpots accent on Jack that Powerball has ever awarded. The last jackpot winner was on May 2nd. You got a problem with Jack. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You don't know Jack.
SPEAKER_03It's a very vi versatile name.
SPEAKER_00It is. Jacked up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean, you've got the Jack. I mean, there's so many things that you can talk about. When you mention the word Jack.
SPEAKER_00How about our afternoon guy? Look at that.
SPEAKER_03Just banana.
SPEAKER_00Banana, which you have. Jack. Jack.
SPEAKER_03Which I have. Yes. Look at that.
SPEAKER_00You got Jack.
SPEAKER_03I got banana Jack. And you got a banana. And I don't have to have banana jack.
SPEAKER_00Does his wife know? She really wouldn't mind. Take him! You can have the jack!
SPEAKER_03I don't want jack! It happens all the time, actually. What's that? Oh my gosh! You want to know the winning numbers?
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_03It's really like interesting. Okay, go ahead. 426-66 6769. Isn't that wild? That is a wild number. And the and the Powerball number is nine. Niner! Isn't that crazy? It's like there's like four sixes in the middle.
SPEAKER_00I'm glad it's four, not three.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's four twenty-six sixty-six. That could have been someone's birthday. I'm assuming. 6769. And then the Powerball is nine. Did that person buy the Powerball? I wonder. Oh, someone in Massachusetts won two mil.
SPEAKER_01Ooh.
SPEAKER_03You know, my my son showed me that um at his gas station where he he always goes. That person, there was a person right in their community won eight hundred thousand dollars.
SPEAKER_00Holy smoke.
SPEAKER_03That's like you know, that's like life-changing money. You're good. Yeah. You're good on eight hundred thousand.
SPEAKER_00We had someone locally win something like that. Put it in the bank.
SPEAKER_03Put it with Andy Hazel of Every Jones.
SPEAKER_00Yes. We had somebody locally win something like that just a couple days ago. 800,000? On a mega millions uh thing. I don't remember what the uh 800 they won?
SPEAKER_03No, no, no.
SPEAKER_00More than that, I think.
SPEAKER_03More than that?
SPEAKER_00Hold on. Now before we go, I I I brought it up, so now I gotta I gotta talk about it. Hold on. So now that we're late, it's your follow up. Two million dollar mega millions ticket sold in Florence. Dang. Two million. So somebody did win some big stuff kind of in our area, not listening area, but certainly in our uh this was posted 18 hours ago.
SPEAKER_03Which which um mega millions. Mega million. Okay, this is powerboard.
SPEAKER_00Right, right, right. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_03No, no, I I I was I didn't see it listed here.
SPEAKER_00Someone who purchased the Mega Millions ticket in Florence for Tuesday's drawing is now a two million dollars richer. It was sold at the Yana Food Mart on Palmetto Street. Lottery officials said the ticket holder matched all five white ball numbers with a two times multiplier to win the two million.
SPEAKER_03Why did they have to specify white? What does that mean? White ball.
SPEAKER_00I'm reading the story.
SPEAKER_03Why do they have to say white ball?
SPEAKER_00Because if you're blackballed, you don't win nothing. You don't get jack. That's it! You got a black ball? Forget it!
SPEAKER_05The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers.
SPEAKER_00Stand by.
SPEAKER_02Why do they have to make it so like racist?
SPEAKER_00It's not only you make it racist. Nobody was thinking that till you brought it up. What are you, a liberal?
SPEAKER_02I'm just saying! Why do they have to say the white ball? Why do they have to say that?
SPEAKER_00Because they are. That is a factual statement. The particular balls involved in this lottery game. They're gonna be in lottery colors. No, they don't.
SPEAKER_03If they do them yellow, where?
SPEAKER_00Sometimes they have blue, but I don't know if that's associated with lottery.
SPEAKER_03Is it kind of Pennsylvania name that?
SPEAKER_00There it is? Yeah. I am going to Blue Ball, Pennsylvania. What are you getting there? White balls.
SPEAKER_04Oh weird.
SPEAKER_00No? Hey, Seaside Furniture Gallery and Access. Oh, they are. Ken's is like you.
SPEAKER_01He's like, great. I know. Sizzling hot.
SPEAKER_00Sales this August. As you know, they've been uh celebrating the 20 250 years of uh the birth of this nation and 25 years in business here locally in the Grand Strand. So, oh, we're out of time. So I can tell you 15 to 65 percent off their everyday low prices on all in-store furniture, and of course, always lamps, pictures, accessories, the largest selection you'll find, and you can save 40% off their uh their in-stock stuff there. So stop on in there, their main showroom and mattress gallery, that's in the little river. And then the other location is Lizzie.
SPEAKER_03It's on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach. You can just go to shopseasidefurniture.com.
SPEAKER_00I'm being informed that the extra ball in the mega millions is red, so that's why they the distinction of matching all five white balls is there. I didn't want to tell you because as I was telling people on the budget blinds text line, it's more fun to let you think the racists that they're in charge of the lottery.
SPEAKER_03Well, it was just the way you said it, I think. I read it.
SPEAKER_00Get off me.
SPEAKER_03Well, um, the other thing I want to tell you that there's Amish people in Blue Ball, Pennsylvania. Yeah, the Amish.
SPEAKER_00The Amish in Acron.
SPEAKER_03They are there, that's for sure. Um, so in case you ever go to Lancaster, um, do you ever take your kids to Amish country?
SPEAKER_00Uh no, because my kids were born here. Amish country. No, my kids were born here. Uh-huh. So the last time I saw I don't know any of Amish people around here.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_00But we have plenty all over in Wisconsin, so you can see them, and they set up their little roadside little sales and stuff like that. So but no, I have not. Uh.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_03Well, I wonder if you want to, you know, take them there, if they would enjoy that to see how the Amish live. You can actually stay at the Blue Ball Hotel. Nice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Wow.
SPEAKER_03I heard there's a lot of happenings there.
SPEAKER_00I I heard. By the way, Conway Jack uh has decided he's going to change his name.
SPEAKER_03Really? Why?
SPEAKER_00Because I don't I don't think he likes the connotations coming from you.
SPEAKER_03I don't have any connotations. Uh-huh. I'm just being told what that song means.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03I looked it up. I think you're right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um, I'm trying to order for you. What are you ordering? I don't want. No, don't order from Panera. They're too far away. I just did. Oh no. Oh, it says wrong.
SPEAKER_00There's towns called. Thanks for your delivery order. There's a town called Climax in uh Minnesota. I know there's a town called Hell, too. Wow. So like when you say hell froze over, it actually does pretty much almost every year.
SPEAKER_03Okay, it went through. I use the card. You're not um, and uh, you'll get breakfast in like, I don't know, two hours because so far away. It is so much. They're gonna have to pack a lunch to deliver your breakfast.
SPEAKER_00I think I think our delivery driver, Doordasher, probably on a bike. Remember that one we had?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I never got my money back.
SPEAKER_00No, I I it was like $40.
SPEAKER_03Never got my money back. Not surprised. They said they delivered it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And they insisted they delivered it. I said, but did you see the picture?
SPEAKER_00And it was open. So what did just something wrong with any of it? Yeah. It's so annoying. There's Amish in intercourse, too. I did not know that.
SPEAKER_03Yes, that's true. Did not know that. Intercourse, Pennsylvania.
SPEAKER_00There you go. Art Ruffelicious is from the region, so.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I used to go to do you ever take your daughter to Hershey Park?
SPEAKER_00No, that's something that's on the list, though.
SPEAKER_03Oh man.
SPEAKER_00Pastor Danny took the grandkids there.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it's so awesome.
SPEAKER_00I know, we gotta go.
SPEAKER_03Do they have rides and stuff? Oh my god, yeah. That's where I got stuck on the ride. Um, what was that called? Fahrenheit. I got stuck on Fahrenheit. And uh remarkably, I remained calm. And I think it was because some other lady was freaking out in the heat, locked in. And uh, thank God we weren't upside down. But she was freaking out, and I was just like, Shut up! You're freaking me out! Like she just kept freaking out. Um, but yeah, because you know, these rides are supposed to be over in 90 seconds, so you can put up with being strapped in um like that. It was one of those rides where your feet dangle and the big Yeah. Yeah. And um did you see those two girls that were stuck upside down? I did for like seven minutes. I did. Oh my god. They were rescued. Yeah, I know they were rescued, but they were upside down for seven minutes. That's fine. Um I mean that's scary. She was like, I just felt like I was gonna slide out. You know, could you imagine all your body weight pushing you through, like, you know. Oh my god. I I get like uh anxiety thinking about it. Did you go to any Space Mountain used to get stuck all the time in Disney? I think that's why they took it down.
SPEAKER_00See, we didn't have any big amusement parks near us, so we relied heavily on the traveling carnivalslash circus that would come to town. Oh god, no, I don't like it. So do you do you remember a ride called The Zipper?
SPEAKER_03No. Oh I think that guy got arrested.
SPEAKER_00It was great. I don't know anything about that. It's a joke.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_03He had a ride called The Zipper.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, not funny.
SPEAKER_03The zipper, I don't know. Does it go up and down?
SPEAKER_00It well, it it goes around like this, and then it has these little like things that you're locked into that spin. So as it's going around, those things spin, and it kind of looks like a zipper. That's what the creators of this ride, who by the way it was invented in 1968. I've seen that ride. I would never go on that. They had some deaths associated with it because here's the one thing they say is never trust a ride that's like in a carnival? That's yes. No, that you can pack up in a truck in 19 minutes.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. Yeah, but it's like that's all we had growing up.
SPEAKER_00You know, our city fairs, county fairs, whatever.
SPEAKER_03That's all we did. And you know who who's in those, working in those carnivals, right?
SPEAKER_00Well, back in the day, back hold on, back in the day, yes, you had criminal underbelly, if you will, but a lot of these people were former military, former engineers that lost their jobs due to drinking and things like that. So they would, or run it on the run. No, they did a study, or on the run from child support.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00So they would get these cash jobs that would take them all over the place. Now, fast forward to nowadays, yeah, it's nothing but meth addicts and foreigners, and you know, it's it's horrible. I've seen them. Really? I wouldn't go on a zipper nowadays. Back when I was a kid, uh huh. Even though they've made improvements, they made it much safer. They slowed it down, they have a locking mechanism. I did this whole deep dive on the zipper. I saw a post on it, and I was like, I gotta learn about this again. Why is it so dangerous? Because we never we never gave it up. I the part of the appeal was wow, this was traveling down the highway at 60 miles an hour just yesterday, and now I'm in it.
SPEAKER_03I know.
SPEAKER_00So I was kind of I yeah. Well, you're 13 years old.
SPEAKER_03That's like no, I know it's cool, but but thinking people don't, you know.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's what I'm saying. Now I wouldn't go on those things.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But because the I don't trust anybody setting them up and the people that are setting them up. Yeah. I mean, you know, whatever. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03All right. All right. Well, that's interesting. I I don't yeah. We have um we have rides here, but we don't have any major, we used to have a major amusement park. I wonder why that never took off. People said it was too expensive. Family Kingdom? No, the one that used to be here.
SPEAKER_00Oh, the Hard Rock one.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh too expensive from what I heard. They never acknowledged this. Is what I heard because I came to visit before we moved here, and I was like, oh, that looks so much fun. But we were so busy because it was like the third time we were here and we were looking for jobs. My wife, of course, got a job immediately, and I got, you know, hey, yeah, let me know when you come back. And uh anyway. And then then when we finally moved here, guess what? Closed down. But we stared at that thing because it was left up for quite a while. And then it got sold to, I believe, a South Korean company. Taiwan, yeah. Okay, there you go. I knew it was in Taiwan the Led Zeppelin Yeah, but it's been rebranded and you know, different colors and schemes. But yeah, and and I always wanted to go there. Interesting little side note, Joey from Sound Systems Incorporated, he set up the entire PA and all the loudspeakers and all that. I know. And he's like, I wonder where all that went.
SPEAKER_03Well, they sold it all, and I'll tell you, it's really kind of funny. Um, I think the when long ago, I guess it was uh 2016, 2017, whenever the first market common ball drop, going back to balls, um for New Year's Eve, the Southern Times Square, remember that? Uh that ball came from that park. And they told me um the woman that worked there that I was kind of helping kind of plan a little bit and MC it. Uh, she got that ball, and she's like, what about what if we hang this from a crane and do a ball drop with this? And it's a big giant disco ball that she got from Hard Rock Park. I was like, that's cool. Let's do it. And that's how, and then the next thing you know, they get we had a crane there and holding the ball over by the movie theater. I don't even know what they do now for New Year's Eve.
SPEAKER_00I think they still do something like that.
SPEAKER_03I think I haven't been in years.
SPEAKER_00Southern Times Square, they still call it that. I know they advertise it. I'm just sad we never got to go because by the time we moved here, it was closed down. And we heard from the locals, I say that because we were newbies. Yeah. They said, oh, they never acknowledged the locals. They didn't give us locals discounts. It was too much money for too little, it wasn't worth it.
SPEAKER_03And it's yeah, because they didn't, I I think what it was was they didn't finish it yet. So they had that could be part of it. It like it wasn't um, you know, it wasn't uh created, um, like it wasn't done being built built up so people were paying for it and it didn't have all the rides in it yet.
SPEAKER_01That makes sense.
SPEAKER_03So, but they were trying to I I get what they were trying to do, which is open and start generating revenue so that they could keep building, but what they should have done is probably made an introductory rate because not everything was installed yet.
SPEAKER_00And generally they will. It's like, hey, this is a work in progress, but we want you in on it. You know, they market it that way, and we're giving you a half-off type thing, and it just gets flooded with people because they want to check it out, they want to see what's being built, they want to experience what's done. I know they had a great soundstage because all the equipment, sound systems, put it all in there, great gear, and they were planning on having great concerts, rocking otherwise. And I know they had a few from what I was told, but then it just never Yeah, too much money, you're right.
SPEAKER_03And I also think we just don't have enough people.
SPEAKER_00Well, we do now, I think. This was back then when we got here, they were still rolling up the streets.
SPEAKER_03You know what? They have for the season. You know what Myrtle Myrtle Beach is is missing out on. This is what I honestly believe. The only thing we're really super great at is the beach, and we need to do more for the beach. We are known for the beach. I went to Canada, I asked the people in Canada, and I said, why do you go to Myrtle Beach? They didn't say golf, they said the beach. So a lot of people come to be at the beach. We need to do that. And as I said, our biggest export is sand in your shoes. That should be it. We should just focus on one thing, one thing that we do great, and you know what? We really kind of don't do the beach great. We don't have like, you know, bathroom facilities, we don't have all the alpha projects done yet. Um, you know, it it's you know, we don't allow tents on the beach, so and there's no other shade, there's no concessions, there's no like we don't have these kind of things. We have a couple of peers, but we don't really uh we'd haven't doubled down on the beach experience. And we used to go to the beach all the time uh on Long Island, because you know, you're on an island, uh, and we would go and see bands all right on the beach. You know, we used to go and dance and go to the beach and hang out, and all the community was there. They had a band shell on the beach, they had country line music dancing nights in the audience. I mean, we would all go to the beach, walk the boardwalk, we had a beautiful board. We're just not using it, and we just leave it there for, you know, just uh you know, we're for Africa to hang out on. So I don't think we're embracing what we're really made for. And I think that's the biggest miss step that we take as as the beach. We have the Ferris wheel, what is it? What's it called? Skywheel. Um we have that. We we we got everything kind of there, but we're just not bringing it over the finish line. And I don't get it.
