"The Longing For Presence" | Christmas Eve 2025

Merry Christmas!!!

What are we really longing for at Christmas? Drawing from Matthew 1, this message explores the deep human ache for presence...not independence. From the garden to the manger to the cross, Scripture reveals a God who doesn’t stay distant but comes near. Jesus, Immanuel...God with us...was born to close the distance sin created and to dwell with us forever. If you’ve ever felt alone, this Christmas message offers comfort, hope, and the good news that because of Jesus, you are never truly alone.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Where do you most feel the ache of “being alone” right now? Is it tied to loss, disappointment, fear, or something harder to name?

The sermon said, “Sin isn’t just about what we’ve done...it’s about distance.” Where do you sense “distance” in your relationship with God right now?

What difference does it make to hear that Christmas means “God came to be with us,” not just to forgive us? How might that be different from how you usually think about Jesus?

The sermon ended with: “You’re not home alone.  And because of Jesus, you never will be.”  What would it look like if you chose to believe this fact over whatever feeling comes your way?

Take a moment to reflect and rest in the presence of Jesus.  If you struggle with this, ask Him to meet you right now and to teach you what this means.  He is the most interested party in this relationship.
