Honoring Seth Irving

Today, we recognize Seth Irving, a proud Lakota elder celebrating his 103rd birthday. Born and raised on the Oglala Lakota Nation, Seth is not only a cherished family member but also a distinguished World War II Navy veteran. Seth's remarkable journey began in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he served aboard the USS Newcomb (DD-586). His early education took place at a boarding school, now known as Mahpiya Luta, and he graduated from Oglala Community High School, where he earned All-State honors in basketball.
