Speaker 1:

A good martial artist does not become tense but ready. Essentially, at this point the fight is over, so you pretty much flow with the goal. Who is worthy to be trusted with the secret to limitless power?

Speaker 2:

I'm ready. Hey, jt, you know when times are good on the mats, you're kicking ass. You're fucking dominating. You are running game on fools, let's go. You're putting it on them, you know. You put it on like pesky blue belts. You know they're getting stronger and then you're just like fucking shut down, boom, hit my arm, but whatever it is right, suckers no. And you're the menace. He's the fucking thing that people aren't realizing. One day, that person's going to be the big dog. Oh, one day, that blue belt's going to be a big, scary brown belt and you're going to be a tired black belt and they're just going to be remembering every beatdown you put on them and they're going to go. Hey, old man, this is the new fucking thing, like I'm knocking, yeah.

Speaker 1:

It's some kill bill shit.

Speaker 2:

And it's like you're like man. I thought this day would never come. We have that 1% better every day. Just stay ahead, I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I trained with a guy called Ollie. You know Ollie, I know Ollie well. Ollie's a great brown belt. Yes, he is Great brown belt. I think I pretty much always had Ollie's number.

Speaker 1:

I just want to quickly say I think there's been a change in Ollie.

Speaker 2:

The way he was at purple is not how he is at brown. Yeah, well, he went on this journey of, uh like deep half guard, right, and he just, and we would just fucking smash him.

Speaker 2:

He pulled deep half guard and then you just fucking smash him from there you know, and then he'd pull deep half guard again and then maybe smash him a bit, but then he got the sweep. You're like, motherfucker the sweep. And then he hit it again and then, nah, smash him. But incrementally he turned that deep half guard into a fucking formidable weapon.

Speaker 2:

Yes, to the point where if ollie pulls deep half guard on you, you're getting swept. You're done right, and so I've kind of always kept that in mind. But being that I haven't been training that frequently in recent years, I still just fall back into that same thing of like go on, pull your deep half, and then I'm going to try and like cross collar, choke you or do some shit you know, and, uh, invariably for a long time he would get the sweep, but then I'd be able to like counter sweep and then fuck him up with something, cause we wouldn't be in the deep half anymore. Sure, anyways, last year I spent a bunch of time coaching Mount to the guys at Vantage and we spent maybe three months on it.

Speaker 1:

Yep.

Speaker 2:

And I taught really just like three techniques and we just I just repackaged it in different ways every week for like three months so the guys would get it and we had an armbar in there really nice armbar. And Ollie has consistently said to me since then, bro, that armbar you taught us and the whole mount thing last year has become such a strong part of my game Like he's really super grateful for it. So nice.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, great, like I love to hear it Right. And he's like, bro, I'm fucking hitting it on like other brown belts and shit, like I'm I'm mounting them, controlling them. And then he's like, like it's, it's so good, bro. And you know, and anyway, I went to training last week on like tuesday night, for you know a bit of a one-off and, um, ollie pulled some deep half bullshit on me and uh, but it was a little bit different, had a bit of a different flavor, you know.

Speaker 2:

And then I noticed like there's a fucking, there was a worm, the hook, he like weaved in a bit of worm guard and I'm like, what the fuck is this? And then I try, and then he went and I don't know what the fuck he did, but can't sweat me. So he's on top and I'm like, and I'm like, I'm like he's on top, but I'm like, it's good, I'm gonna fucking get out. And then he mounts me. And then I'm like, oh, shit, I'm in mount. But I'm like, no big deal, right, it's all, I'm gonna fuck him up, that's fine.

Speaker 2:

And then fucking arm bars me. Oh, with the same fucking armmbar that I taught him last year. Oh, the audacity. And I'm like, bro, you did that so well and he's like thanks, bro, you taught it to me. Thanks, I told you, man, it's been, he was super. And you know how you get, when you tap the person that you don't get to tap that often, that you become like really appreciative because you're aware of the gravity of the situation. That's huge and I think both Ollie and I at that moment felt, we felt that there had been this transition, a shift. It was like a universal law that always was ceased to be and it was superseded by a new law and uh, and I and I, you know, and I was like bro, I'm super happy, that was great. Like you know, I try not to make too big a deal of it, cause I'm like, whatever, bro, you caught me.

Speaker 1:

No, big deal but.

Speaker 2:

I'm also like bro, you fucking caught me. Well done, it was a good get Like, it wasn't like a. Oh you, you jumped on a straight ankle lock and you know it's tough, but it's great because obviously the lesson it's.

Speaker 1:

It's the hardest form of you knowing that you did the right thing, as the, as the teacher, in terms of you taught him the lesson well, because he fucking used it against you. And I had a moment like that at my black belt grading, where two of my most savage students who I've always well, one of them was a student, one of them was not One of them was just a training partner, but a lower rank guy stuff I'd shown them they used on me and they fucked me up Like they they kind of injured me and I was like fuck, do I deserve this? Like, is this how I've raised my children? You know? Like, are the chickens coming home to roost?

Speaker 1:

Like, is that what this is Cause? Is that my karma for teaching them to be savage, tough, unrelenting, mean, bad motherfuckers? And I'm like they were being unrelenting on me. How, how dare they Like I, I deserve this? Like they learned their lesson? Well, this is like some fucking kill bill shit. Like, oh, just standing there with the samurai sword cutting people's limbs off. You're like, fuck, it's my time.

Speaker 2:

Jiu-jitsu, karma's real. It comes for you, it does, and I honestly like I mean I've you know, I've been aware of this, I've accepted this, but still, when it's there in your face, it's like I've spoken about Ari Tabak. For those who don't just run the Rome open or the, but yeah for those who don't just run the one, the Rome open, the Rome IBJJ.

Speaker 1:

He is on the. Recently there was a Mount Rushmore of like undefeatable guards, Like there's a meme which is uh, uh, your son can't play guard, Send to Australia, Forget for three years Send to. Australia for three years. Forget him. Yeah, you know like. And it's got Lachlan Giles, levi, ari, tabak and Kaya, no, no, no, old mate with the heel hook, he heel hooked-. Oh, lucas, lucas Cannonard. They are the four faces on the Mount Rushmore of unpassable guards.

Speaker 2:

Dude, and I remember as it became that and you're showing up and you're like, no, it's going to be like it always was. And it's like, wait, this is different. Wait, I can't pass his guard. Wait, he keeps sweeping me. Wait, I just got tapped mine repeatedly. You're like, and you and you know, you just have, we're so reluctant to just be able to yeah, and to be able to, like, look at this beautiful thing, but it is so um.

Speaker 2:

for me, having accepted it, it's not that traumatic, but I but I do know that there's a lot of grapplers out there who need to hear this because they don't anticipate that that point will come someday and when it comes, if you haven't ever thought about it, it can really fuck you up when you're at jujitsu and you get thirsty.

Speaker 1:

you need a hydration solution, and I've got the one for you. Ladies and gentlemen, it is Sodi, the sponsor of today's show. Potassium, sodium, magnesium electrolytes the stuff you need in your blood so you can roll hard and feel good. Speaker 2:

I remember, I remember a black belt that I met back when I was maybe purple or brown and actually met him at the outdoor gym.

Speaker 2:

Lovely bloke Got chatting to him and he was like you do jiu-jitsu? And I was like yeah, I do. And I was like you. He was like yeah, and I was like, oh, what about you? He was like I'm a black belt and I was like whoa, and this was at a time when there wasn't a lot big deal, you know and, um, I was asking what he was doing. He's like um, I'm here like working on the muscle up.

Speaker 1:

Um, because I keep getting bashed by these young cunts of jiu-jitsu and I need to fucking smash them again, right and I was like, wow, tell me more about that.

Speaker 2:

And this guy had this, was carrying this thing of like he was in that transition, right, and he was no longer able to be the fucking. He was no longer able to shut the little dogs down. He was no longer the hammer, nah, and and he and he was, and his, his approach to it was well, I gotta become a bigger hammer, so I can, but he's in his 40s, he's busted up classic black belt, like he was. You know, I'm like, and I told him man, it's not gonna happen. Like, I'll teach you to do a muscle up, but you're not gonna. You're not gonna stop those young cunts I.

Speaker 1:

I love that Joey Guy comes to you like how can I be better, joey, give up mate you don't got this.

Speaker 2:

I'm like fucking accept this.

Speaker 1:

You are fucked, my son.

Speaker 2:

Because it's just the law of the jungle fam.

Speaker 1:

No, to a certain extent. There is a point at which, in the lions, the lion who's the head of the fucking tribe gets ousted by the younger, more dominant lion. Sure, that's what TRT is for. That's right, apparently.

Speaker 2:

But the young cunts are on the TRT too, bro, you don't want to get a fucking deal with that. No, of course, and this isn't like just giving you green light to be like, just get on the gear, oh well, or yeah, but just be like oh well, I'm fucking. You know the guy's fitter and stronger than me. He's 10 years on me. No, no, no, Like you can be a savage for a long time and you can strategize and you can place and do all those things.

Speaker 1:

But let's put a little bit. Any great revenge movie right, Any great revenge saga, the burning desire for the person coming for revenge is so much greater

Speaker 1:

than the person who thinks they've won right yeah, you thought you killed so-and-so no their child. They fake their own death and they're coming back Right and they've been training in the shadows and you don't know. Ollie has been fucking on one Like. I rolled with him early last year and he was coming at me and I didn't. Did I pass? I don't know, I don't, it was an even roll. You know like it was. I mean, I don't even know what his current incarnation and aura level is like right now. He'd been sleeping like a baby ever since he tapped Big Joey. But I'm saying that what you I think what people have to observe, as the context here is, you have been in a more contented state, which is you got the black belt, you got a business, you got a family like you're in a really good place in your life. I don't know what place Ollie is in, but he is fucking. He's about to have a baby, oh, okay.

Speaker 2:

It's going to change. It'll all change. I'm biding my time. I know what that first few years is like. You'll come back on him when he's like sleep deprived. Yep, I'm on the uptick. He's not eating, right, you know? Yeah.

Speaker 1:

But the context is you've come from a place of not. Priorities are different.

Speaker 1:

His life priority is I gotta fucking tap joey, I'm gonna get that guy I've been, he's been smashing me from, I'm gonna fucking that revenge mentality is such a different level of intent and energy driving force compared to you just being like, ah, you know, I'm good here. You know, yeah, and I think this is what we you know they talk about mamba mentality and staying hungry, all this stuff, like. I actually feel like maybe he might lull a little bit now. You know he's like, oh, I did it. Oh, thank god I've killed joey, but then no, you did it.

Speaker 2:

Well, I mean, I'll be there, right, you'll come back, yeah, as soon as he lets his guard down, you know joey will be there. Yeah, I'm fucking, I'm not letting him pull that guard. The reverse de la worm. I'm gonna look watch an instructional on what even the fuck that is he plays reversed. I was like I know that was reverse della worm.

Speaker 2:

I was like get the fuck out of here, don't even fucking tell me what you keenan, cornelius um, but yeah, no, that's right, you know it's an, it's an undulating thing and and you know you, we, we're patient animals and we bide our time, but, uh, but it is also a thing of beauty, and so I suppose the message here in for the, for the listeners, is there is a time that's going to come, where, where those that maybe you were once dominant over will perhaps become dominant over you, and I think if you cannot accept that that is the the law of things, you will struggle in those later years of jujitsu. Yeah Right, but if you can accept, then you can continue to enjoy this thing and make it a part of your life going forward.

Speaker 2:

Yes sir, there it is Big. Shout out to Ollie Shout out.
