00:30 - James Quinn

Hello and welcome to Episode 1 of Series 4 in the Relaxing Piano Playlist, with your host, James Quinn here at the piano, thank you very much for joining me.

I hope you enjoyed the third series of this podcast with all the music that was on offer, and this fourth series will of course continue in the same manner. Before we go on with the music of this episode, I will quickly highlight some forthcoming details of what will appear in this series. You can expect to hear some wider range of music from more additional composers as well as the familiar names that we all know and love. Later on in the series there will be a special episode where you will get to hear some of my own original piano compositions. On top of this, there will also be an episode or two where you can hear a variety of contemporary composers with their own music as well as some exclusive pieces that have been written for me to premiere in the podcast. With all that aside, let’s go on with the music in this episode.

In this episode, you’re going to hear a number of pieces ranging from a wide variety of composers, covering the Baroque, the Classical, the Romantic and the 20th Century periods.

The first piece that you’re going to hear, comes from the Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach, and the piece that you’re going to hear is the opening movement, the Prelude from the first Partita Suite in B Flat, which was published as BWV 825.

We then return to the Classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for our next piece, and in this instance you’re going to hear the second movement, set to the speed of Adagio from his second Piano Sonata in F, which was published as K.280.

The next set of pieces come from the Romantic period. The first of these comes the composer Frederic Chopin, and the piece that you’re going to hear is his Nocturne No.2 in E Major, which he published as Opus 62.

The next piece that follows is by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, and in this instance, you will hear a movement from one of his collection of Lyric Pieces. In particular you will hear the Elegie, which is the last piece from the cycle of Opus 47.

Afterwards, we make another return to the Russian composer, Alexander Scriabin, and in this case you’re going to hear Prelude No.13 in G Flat, which comes from his early set of Preludes that he published as Opus 11.

Finally, we make another return to the 20th Century French Impressionistic composer Claude Debussy, where you will hear the second movement, the Sarabande from his larger work, Pour le Piano.

So to recap, here is the order just once more: the Prelude from Partita Suite No 1 in B Flat by J.S Bach, Movement 2 from Piano Sonata K.280 by Mozart, Nocturne No.2 in E Major from Op.62 by Chopin, Elegie from Lyric Pieces Op.47 by Edvard Grieg, Prelude No.13 in G Flat Op.11 by Scriabin, and finally the Sarabande from Pour le Piano by Debussy.

So sit back, relax, and I hope that you all enjoy the music. Thank you.
