00:30 - James Quinn

Hello and welcome to Episode 3 of Series 4 in the Relaxing Piano Playlist, with your host, James Quinn here at the piano, thank you very much for joining me. In this episode, you’re going to hear a number of pieces ranging from a wide variety of composers, covering the Baroque, the Romantic and the 20th Century periods.

We start with the Italian Baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti, and the piece that you’re going to hear is his Piano Sonata in F minor which was published as K.481.

Our next piece comes a new composer added to the podcast in the form of the Italian Tomaso Albinoni, and you’re going to hear the Adagio in G minor that was attributed to him. This was in fact composed by a 20th musicologist by Remo Giazotto, who catalogued the composer’s works. The solo piano arrangement that you’ll hear is by none other than yours truly, and I hope that you enjoy my own interpretation of this gorgeous work.

The next piece that follows is by the returning Spanish composer Enrique Granados, and the piece that you will hear, which from it’s Spanish title is translated as “The Maiden and The Nightingale”. This comes from his volume of piano pieces known as the Goyescas.

Afterwards, we revisit the Russian composer, Sergei Bortkiewicz, and in this case you’ll hear his  second Prelude in B, which he published in a cycle of 7 Preludes, as Opus 40.

We also return to the likes of Sergei Rachmaninoff, where you will hear a movement from one of his piano works known as the Morceaux de Salon which he published as Opus 10. From this, you will hear the fifth movement known as the Romance.

Finally, we come back to the 20th Century French composer Debussy, where you will hear a short work of his known as The Little Shepherd which comes from his Piano suite entitled, Children’s Corner.

So to recap, here is the order just once more: Piano Sonata in F minor K.418 by Scarlatti,  the Adagio in G minor by Albinoni and Remo Giazotto, and arranged for the piano by your host James Quinn, The Maiden and The Nightingale from Goyescas by Granados, Prelude No.2 in B Op.40 by Bortkiewicz, the Romance from Morceaux de Salon Op.10 by Rachmaninoff, and finally The Little Shepherd from Children’s Corner by Debussy.

So sit back, relax, and I hope that you all enjoy the music. Thank you.
