The Lead Candidate
In science we are taught how to become competent researchers. If you are talented and lucky enough to build a strong research profile, you become a leader in your field. This does not, however, automatically make you leader of people and yet so many roles that use science require real leadership. This podcast aims to understand what qualities and experiences make a great leader in different fields of science. What are the differences between those that fall into the role, versus those who were made for it?

Episode 16
Today we have Dr Will Jorgensen on the show! Will is the Lead Medicinal Chemist at the biotech company Psylo. He is here to talk about his recent move from a leadership role in academia into industry.
He’s sharing his thought processes as he navigated this decision and how he finds the two different environments. If you’re trying to work out whether to move from academia into industry this episode is for you.
*Disclaimer I misheard Will in the episode. You can apply for an ARC DECRA within 5 years of completing your PhD but it runs for 3 years FTE*
