SPEAKER_01

Not that I'm trying to rush through Memorial Day, although maybe I am, because now the weather forecast looks like ass. Um I'm sorry. I you know It does. I the whole all right, let me let me clarify. The whole weekend does not look terrible. Actually, the temperatures are not the worst in the world. I mean, you're gonna be mild enough. It's just how much rain we see on Saturday. And it's like, come on, couldn't you get that out of the way on Friday?

SPEAKER_02

I know. And you know, the rain doesn't start till Friday evening after seven. And I remember Memorial Day last year, this exact same thing happened.

SPEAKER_01

This is the new pattern that we live in. This is our lives now.

SPEAKER_02

Which super sucks. Is it because Memorial Day is earlier? Doesn't it feel earlier?

SPEAKER_01

Uh yes, it does feel earlier. It feels like it should be a weekend later, but it also feels like when you hit Memorial Day, you should begin to be consistently good. You know, uh you're gonna get rain all through the summer. There's gonna be days. That's fine, but do we have to like, you know, install 57's not warm?

SPEAKER_02

I bet you on the the final final weekend of May, the 30th, that one it'll be 100 degrees and perfect.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. Sunny sunny. Just like what we came out of. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

All right, I want to play you a message from our on our app. Again, people can either text us or we I had a lot of voice recordings yesterday, but we did have some traffic incidences while you were out.

SPEAKER_01

We'll get to that.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, for sure, for sure. But um, yeah, so this guy sent us a voice message. Here you go.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, so here's my deal. Um, so about six months ago, my wife asked me to give up drinking and smoking. She didn't give me some big ultimatum or anything. She just said she wanted me to.

SPEAKER_02

Was that a tomatum?

SPEAKER_00

Tomatum.

SPEAKER_02

Sorry. The most twin tears. I think it was supposed to be ultimatum.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, seen a tomato. And to be fair, I know she's right, so I went ahead and quit both. Um, pretty much cold turkey. The problem is, ever since then, I've kind of just been miserable.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because that's boring.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I'm not craving it every second, but I just feel, I don't know, bored, I guess. Like after work, I used to have a couple drinks, maybe smoke, relax, and that was kind of my routine, but now I just sort of wander around the house opening the fridge for no reason and staring at the TV, you know. Um, my wife seems pretty happy about it, but I just feel grumpy a lot of the time, and I honestly don't know what to do with myself. So, yeah, I guess I've been thinking about going back to my old habits and just like dealing with the consequences later. And I know going back would probably cause like a huge fight, and more importantly, it isn't great for me, but I don't know. I don't want to spend the rest of my life feeling like a bored, cranky old man, you know. I guess I haven't replaced those habits with anything meaningful yet, but I don't know what to do. So, yeah, just curious how other guys got through that stage and found something else to like fill the gap.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, there's always the stage of I want you to live forever.

SPEAKER_01

Oh God, right? No, I you know, here's the thing. I think this is my hunch on this. She is hoping he would have picked up doing things that she feels either needed to be done with prompting. I'll give you an example. Like maybe he would have come home and mowed the lawn. Right. Uh I'm not saying he doesn't mow the lawn, but I'm thinking like maybe The get up and go would be there because there's nothing else to fill the time. Right. Like he's wandering around opening the fridge. Which why does that happen?

SPEAKER_02

Why is that the I do it here? I'm like, why am I looking at everyone else's lunches? Like, what is happening?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. Uh but no, I think that's what it was. Is I don't necessarily know it was as much the smoking. It didn't sound like he was like a raging drunk. Uh-huh. It what did he say? He came home and it would have a couple drinks after work. Yeah, yeah. All right, there are people that unwand like that all the time. Unwind holy crap, I just did it too.

SPEAKER_02

I think yeah, I think he means smoking weed, not cigarettes.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you were thinking that? Yeah. Oh, I was thinking smoking- Oh, I thought it was Yeah, like because he's relaxing. Man, you know we live in New York State nowadays when you think that. I totally thought it was the marbs.

SPEAKER_02

No, no, no. I think because he said relaxing. So I think he's coming home and and Oh, I totally went the other way with that.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't think Okay, well then I could understand.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe Oh my gosh. Now you're gonna change your mind.

SPEAKER_01

You're stinking up the house with that crap. So yeah, Margaret wasn't going to be able to do that.

SPEAKER_02

I know.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh. I think what she was what she's trying to do without actually I think this is the subtle demand. Mm-hmm. It really you just sit there and agree.

SPEAKER_02

That's well, yes, but I think that what he should do is is kind of like well, it's kind of like what I do is during the school nights, no, no, no. You don't touch any of that. Sure, sure. No drinking, no smoking, no nothing. And then you just one night a week. And then it's like not terribly bad for you because if you do it every single night, then Oh that yeah, that's a bad pattern. Right. And you're not getting things done like lawn work and whatever. But if you just do it like on a Friday night, then I feel like that's a good compromise.

SPEAKER_01

I don't disagree with that. But am I also in the does anybody else agree with me that I think what her real mission was, not so much that, you know, he did what he did, it was more so she's like, Well, I'm gonna lay this ultimatum down and now I'll get him to do these. He'll mentally switch over and go, Oh, I'll do the lawn. Oh, wait, you know, I've got this little project downstairs and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_02

But he's been out of that pattern for so long because he's been having cocktails and smoking every night after work that I think that once you get out of the pattern, you're not jumping right back to it.

SPEAKER_01

I that could very well be. All right, I don't know. That's just my thought on this, because uh, but I would say you're right. Don't go back to every single day.

SPEAKER_02

No, even like the the whole blue zone thing that I always preach about, they still drink in moderation.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, sure. All right, what do you guys think? Do you guys think that she's just subtly trying to get him to do other things? Now he's just opening the fridge.
