Why do baseball managers wear the uniform too?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
I mean you could be a Yankees fan, you could be a Guardians fan, a Mets fan, but this is really the question when you're watching baseball. Oh, take a listen. Oh, sorry. That's okay.
SPEAKER_00Silly answer for why baseball coaches also wear the uniform. Because no other sport does that. I know historically they did it, but they don't have to still be doing that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, why do the baseball coaches wear the uniform?
SPEAKER_01I honestly think it's just tradition. I was watching a little bit of the Knicks game last night. Uh-huh. Um, which I'm not a huge basketball guy, but there was an energy.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh, there totally is.
SPEAKER_01Especially with playoffs and all that stuff. Same thing with Stanley Cup and hockey. Like, I don't watch hockey. I'm it's not my sport. But when you get to that hot, it's like World Series and all that. You you can't not kind of pay attention. And you're right, baseball, because hockey coaches don't wear a uniform. NBA, he was in a suit. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02They're always dressed so nice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh I really think it's just the it's the tradition. I know his she says historical. I think it's just tradition. It's something they've always done.
SPEAKER_02Unless. But like it doesn't seem like not that it's uncomfortable, but doesn't seem also the most comfortable thing to wear either.
SPEAKER_01The hands are so tight. But they also have uh but they also have um they don't have to wear like the cups and all that stuff. So that's true. So wait a minute. But the maybe there is a story behind this. Why do baseball uh I'm wondering if there's uh oh my god, this is this is something that's Googled frequently. All right. It says baseball coaches wear uniforms primarily because they are required by league rules to be an official team to be in official team attire in order to be in the playing field or in the dugout. The the uh satorial uh tradition, whatever, uh also stems from the game's early days when infield uh leaders were players and managers. Oh I had a feeling that it was that. So there was a time pulling double duty. You were pulling double duty. Okay. Okay, so it yes, the tradition stu stuck, but you know, because 90% of the managers now are not gonna go on the field and play, but right, right, especially by the looks of it.
SPEAKER_02And also when you're watching like an NBA game, those coaches in suits on the sidelines, they're always like the shortest white guy. They're never gonna, they're never gonna get in the game. Oh, right, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so on field access, that's part of it. Uh, let's see, camaraderie is another piece, historical tradition. So there was originally a reason, it just stuck.
SPEAKER_02I wonder if people who are well, I guess men who are playing baseball, I'm gonna use that for right now, if they feel a closer relationship with their coach versus an MBA player who their coach doesn't dress like them.
SPEAKER_01I don't that's a good idea. Because can you imagine the question? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Imagine an NBA coach wearing a jersey and those the just the the gym shorts. The shorts? No.
SPEAKER_01It would look kind of ridiculous now that you mention it. Totally.
SPEAKER_02All right, let me play you this. What does it sound like when a truck carrying fireworks explodes on the highway?
SPEAKER_01Oh, I saw this video last night. You gotta hear this.
SPEAKER_02It sounds like this. I'll tell you what it sounds like.
SPEAKER_01It sounds like uh party in the park. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So wait, hold on. I got it's locked.
SPEAKER_01The amazing thing about this, when that truck caught uh, you know, fire and and and exploded like that, the fire department said, although cars were lined up on the other side of the highway for a show they've never seen before like this, a fireworks show, amazingly nobody got injured.
SPEAKER_02That's fantastic. Well, this is the people are laughing. That's fantastic because we have Somebody's yelling.
unknownWoo!
SPEAKER_02Woo! You always cheer for a firework show. There's always somebody. If I don't hear oos and ahs at a fireworks show, I start it. I'm like, did you not do this when you were a kid? Ooh and on for every single one. So the first one goes up, right?
SPEAKER_01Was that too much?
SPEAKER_02Scared. You're supposed to be ooing and eyeing, Scott. Let's try it again. Okay. All right. Oh my God, you're really terrible at this. It's supposed to be oo. Yes, didn't you always do that when you were a kid?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02We always ooo'd an eye. And the whole crowd.
SPEAKER_01At the end, after the finale, everybody's like, that part I had.
SPEAKER_02Which you also do June 27th. That's right.
