Good morning! Good morning! You know how yeah You know how yesterday you and I were like uh wow, your hair is really high. That's distracting. What's happening?
SPEAKER_00It kind of looks like uh pebbles, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_01Yes, it's uh way up there. What are you doing?
SPEAKER_00I put on I put in some dry shampoo and it gave it- You sure wasn't glue? It gave it a lot of volume. A lot.
SPEAKER_01It's like this huge it I it's like a skyscraper in the middle.
SPEAKER_00It looks like a hair bow. So I only put my hair half up, half down. And I really like this look. You don't like this look.
SPEAKER_01I I I'm not gonna say I don't like it. You look half finished if you really want the truth. What? No, this is adorable. Well, it's just this is a really cute hair. It's gonna throw me off all day. My eye's gonna catch it. I'm gonna be like, whoa, what is going on? There's a bird, there's a crow on Allie's head.
SPEAKER_00Well, you know what they said.
SPEAKER_01Yes, a higher the hair.
SPEAKER_00Closer to God.
SPEAKER_01Amen, sister. So I uh I I was gonna start with this before that distracted me. So yesterday, you know how we were, we've been half joking. We're like, uh, anybody knocking. Anybody working today? Anybody with us, you know? I mean, we've got some of our regulars here. In fact, Natalie's gonna start us off in a minute. I have a text I have to read from her. Okay. But you know, it was I don't want to say it was quiet. It it just it was one of these things we're like, okay, uh, we know that we're right after the fourth. A lot of people take vacation and you know, it seems quieter. So I left here yesterday. What time do we leave here? It was like one something, right? I mean, it wasn't uh or somewhere around there.
SPEAKER_00That's what time you left, but yes.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you were here longer? I was teasing your hair, I see.
SPEAKER_00Teasing my hair, trying to finagle this stupid podcast that's been taking way too long to upload.
SPEAKER_01Computer issues.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I've got computer issues.
SPEAKER_01But then as I'm driving home, I'm like, oh, this is weird. It was real quiet driving home. Like even intersections where I'm like, oh, normally there'd be people, it just didn't feel as busy. So I think we are in a vacation week for a lot of people.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it was dead, dead this morning. But do you remember during the pandemic when no one was on the road? Oh, weird, weird flex. It was the most glorious commute to work. I loved it. Going home. I just wanted to gun it to 160.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, you probably could. That would have been the time to do it. All right, so I do want to start with Natalie. Uh, and she goes, good everyone. Summer of uh a World Cup. What? No, bummer. I'm sorry, bummer of a World Cup game for the U.S. last night uh as we were eliminated. I'm I'm just gonna play them for here you go.
SPEAKER_02Defeat of the U.S. is heads and take it to the Belgian bummer picked up in the box. There's a man like him behind the wall.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, I have no clue what's going on. I don't know either. Four to one was the uh was the and I I have kids in soccer, and I'm like, what is this?
SPEAKER_00I know one of my best girlfriends always we always went to her games, and I just never got into it.
SPEAKER_01Never understood uh recall. Anyway, four to one. So I say this. At this point, since U.S. is out, the rest of FIFA can leave. Go. Get out of the U.S. We're done with you. Get out, get out, pack your crap, get your balls, and go.
SPEAKER_00You know what? You can now look towards the Gus Macker next Friday. I'll be playing I'll be playing in the Gus Macker. On Friday or Saturday? It's on Friday. I'm the kickoff celeb celebrity. I'm the kickoff celebrity.
SPEAKER_01Keep that hair high.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Uh well, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You can alley oop with that thing.
SPEAKER_00I've got. What is Allie Alley ooped? That'd be amazing. So now you guys can come watch me next Friday, 6 o'clock, downtown Elmyra, right, but right in front of Empire Sports, shooting some hoops.
SPEAKER_01Are they shutting down the roads?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they always do. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is a huge thing. It's shut down the road.
SPEAKER_01Oh, nobody's out anyway, so what's the problem?
SPEAKER_00Who cares about FIFA?
SPEAKER_01That's right. Get out, FIFA. You were done with you.
SPEAKER_00Come to the Gus Macker next Friday.
SPEAKER_01All you've done is bore us for the past God knows how many weeks that you've been doing this.
SPEAKER_00I I have uh I have a message in my inbox about the Gus Macker, and then I'm supposed to be going to some volunteer meeting. They're like, you don't have to next Tuesday, and I was like, well, if I don't have to.
SPEAKER_01I don't know why we're screaming there.
SPEAKER_00I really don't want to go.
SPEAKER_01By the way, Natalie goes on to say, only four weeks until NFL preseason.
SPEAKER_00Hey, not yet. Gus Macker, next Friday.
SPEAKER_01Okay, you know what? Not yet. How about the Halloween store signs already up next to McDonald's on Chambers Road? Is that up alright? How about not yet? Okay, if we're gonna talk not yet, you can't let me have NFL preseason. Not yet. You can't have your GD Halloween yet until you know what? It's September.
SPEAKER_00Not until after I play this basketball game.
SPEAKER_01Oh, is that the that's the over the hump of summer? Yeah, I'm gonna be able to do that. We thought the days were starting to get shorter because summer solstice hit. Nope. It's after the Gus Smacker.
SPEAKER_00I just meant after uh, as far as sports go, it has to be after my event.
SPEAKER_01And who's Gus? And how did he get the nickname of a smacker?
SPEAKER_00No, not not smacker, macker.
SPEAKER_01Macker.
SPEAKER_00I don't I have no clue.
SPEAKER_01Because Mackin has a different meaning now than it did years ago, I feel like, you know? Hold on.
SPEAKER_00Don't you?
SPEAKER_01You know, you Mac on somebody. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And is Gus like really a player?
SPEAKER_00Is Gus Macker around?
SPEAKER_01Not like a basketball player, like just a player.
SPEAKER_00Let's see. Uh Gus Macker is rooted in Michigan. The famous three-on-three basketball tournament was founded in 1974 by Scott Gus Macker. Oh, well, he's good guys.
SPEAKER_01Scott.
SPEAKER_00In his mother's backyard. This went from his mother's backyard to Elmyra, New York.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that sounds right. Weird. Uh, by the way, you might be playing against uh Gavin's soccer coach, Coach Collins.
SPEAKER_00Oh, wait, hold on. I'll tell you if I am or not. I know which team I'm I I know who's on my I know who's on my team and I know who's on the opposing team.
SPEAKER_01Because like I said, this is the who are you playing with? Well, let's hear that.
SPEAKER_00On my team is uh it's Allie Payne, local radio personality.
SPEAKER_01Excellent.
SPEAKER_00James Perry, Elmyra Express Boys JV head coach, school counselor EDA. Do you know what?
SPEAKER_01Okay, that no, but that's a good sign. I mean, if you got a head coach there, he's gotta have some skills.
SPEAKER_00Uh then there's uh Zachy. Zachy!
SPEAKER_01Zachy.
SPEAKER_00I don't know who I don't know if that's how to say his name is Z-A-K-H-I, or is it Zakai?
SPEAKER_01It could be Zakai.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Zakai or Zaki. I like Zaki. Let's go with that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, unless his name's Zakai and he's like, man, you're annoying.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, he's the founder of Shar Studios. Then we have uh my pastor, Jahara Shaz uh Shazer, which is lead pastor of City of Light. The other team, Team Marshall. Boo! Come on, boo too. Boo. Marshall uh Frere from Director of Downtown Development. Remember, we used to work with him with Gaffer. Oh, sure. Uh Faith McNich, third grade Hoop Prodigy from Horses. Hoop Prodigy, look out. Third grade.
SPEAKER_01You're done.
SPEAKER_00Guess who's gonna lose Faith? I got the faith that Allie Payne's team is gonna win.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I don't.
SPEAKER_00Willie Owen, really? What? I have like a six foot eight black guy on my team. I think I'll be all right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but that third grader can take out knees. Who else is in there?
SPEAKER_00Willie Owens, founder of the Program for Peace, and Emmy Sofley, uh founder of Runway for a Cause.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So you also know Emily, don't you? Emmy Emmy?
