Why are there no pools left in Corning? 2

Now, I love the text from 2878, but it's a can of worms. I'm only gonna walk around. I'm not gonna dive deep into it, but I do love the point that's made. They uh Emily says, I'd love to see funding thrown into kids. We don't need another gas station or corner store. We need the mall to become a giant children's center. Now, two points. One, the gas station on the corner. That's private business. That's private company. But you know what they do do? Do, do. What do they do do? They pay taxes. And I'd like to know where some of that tax money could go in order to be able to fund something that could go to that. As far as the mall goes, that's another whole topic. I don't have a problem spending literally a segment of the show on what I believe the Arnett Mall should become. And it's not a vicious attack on the mall. It is a building standing that I have an idea that I think would work fantastic. I don't want to do that right here. We'll do that at some point, though. And because I'm not looking to dog anybody.
SPEAKER_00No, we just wanted to make it more beautiful. And that's exactly what Zach and I were saying yesterday when we've noticed pools are closed on a 100-degree day, and there's not a lot of options for kids as far as swimming. And you also have to think about this parents aren't rich.
SPEAKER_01So for We even got a text on one parent, one kid, one person that said, I grew up not ri you know, I was poor.
SPEAKER_00Yes. And so as far as somebody said, Oh, well, there is um what's that one place out there and come on. Aaron, it's out in Aaron. What is the name of the thing? Park station. Park station. Thank you. Sometimes it's a matter of you have a pay to get in.
SPEAKER_01Right. You've got, you know.
SPEAKER_00So that's why when we were talking about even just any outdoor activities, pools especially, but we even when we were talking about Spencer Crest, uh as far as making changes, it's hard to get a lot of people to get on your bandwagon to say, I'm gonna do something about it, even as even as far as just having your voice heard or signing something.
SPEAKER_01Well, is there nobody that knows how to write uh request grants in Corning to put this towards the pool? And I I'm I mean that's that would be if if you don't have a way to divert any money that is coming in from your budgets, the other way to go about it is request a grant. Has that been I'd like to know, has that been done? Has anyone attempted it? Is it not in your wheelhouse? Because look at Thorn Street There's a lot of people that can just chalk it up. I'm lazy, I just take my paycheck.
SPEAKER_00Because Thorn Street is doing a fantastic job as far as getting a renovation. Yeah. So somebody wrote or grant money, you said. I don't know if it's all grant money, but somebody wrote a grant to get a lot of money dumped into Thorn Street Park. Good on you.
SPEAKER_01Well, that sets the ease for the rest of the taxpayers, even if it's a portion of it.
SPEAKER_00And that's how I I go, well, then I know it's I know it's possible.
SPEAKER_01It is possible. I see many people have uh texted in that Savona now has a splash pad. We call that the town shower. Oh, by the way, we do have one in Elmyra. Somebody texted that. It's at Eldridge. And it seems that they got a lot of the bugs worked out of that. I know when it uh I think about a year or so ago, there was a a couple issues, but it was running the party in the park.
SPEAKER_00It was fantastic.
SPEAKER_01It was a nice cool off. Lydia loved it. But a splash pad, I'm gonna tell you a splash pad is not a pool. Right. Being submerged and jumping off a diving board or the side of a pool with your buddies or all your friends up until a certain age, uh, yeah, and that certain age continues because in West Elmyra they have the uh geriatric hour at six, but uh literally kids out of the pool. Welcome, Scott. Yeah, I'm going in. Um but you know, there's nothing like that. I mean, a splash pad does help, but it's not the same. And if you have the pit in the ground, Denison has the pit in the ground.
SPEAKER_00What's the problem? Here's another text. Get a grant. Y'all missed the Elmyra is crazy post where someone complained the pool was closed due to lack of lifeguards. Someone mentioned to go apply, but several parents said their kids did, and they never got called back either.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I don't know that detail on that. I don't know number one which pool. I don't know uh, you know, how the hiring goes. Uh I know my pool, I call it my pool, uh, is staffed, you know, uh on the regular, but I have my complaint there too. They close it down before the end of the heated hottest part of the summer because they always say, Well, the kids got to go back to college. Oh, God, get four adults in there to do it. Everybody doesn't somebody want a part-time job.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just a little volunteering even our.
SPEAKER_01There's some training that goes into it, I realize.
SPEAKER_00Sure, but I feel like a lot a lot of gener our generation, you know, mine and yours, we're in two different generations, but close enough that we both know how to swim. Yeah. I could save a life.
SPEAKER_01I probably could pass the course pretty quick if I needed to.
SPEAKER_00And get a tan at the same time.
SPEAKER_01Damn right. All right, I know we've gone a lot of different places with that. It's nice to see that a lot of people are are in the same sentiment. And honestly, it comes down to this who you want to vote for. You need to ask these questions. See, we all do this, we all talk about it like this. Who goes to the actual meetings when somebody's standing up there going, I want you to vote for me, and actually asks, okay, you want my vote? Then um Give me a damn poll. What uh what are you gonna do for the kids, you know, and stuff like that? Because you said it off air a minute ago. Quit bitching about the light posts and corning and start doing something productive.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I mean, don't get me wrong. I love that Market Street is lit up and it's beautiful, but I also want something in the summer too. I you're not wrong. This is doable.
SPEAKER_01All right, we're gonna we'll we'll leave it there.
