We are almost back to school season. Uh we are what about a week away from Pennsylvania hitting back to school. It'll be nice to have you guys back on our crazy schedule with us so uh you can uh have more fun with us.

Yeah, I know. Uh you're you're a ways in New York, though. New York, at least for Gavin and Lydia, they don't go back to school till after Labor Day, which is the seventh.

We're gonna deal with back to school supplies tomorrow because I've I've got to get into this. There was uh some reports out that people are really starting to feel it, and I have something I want to talk to you guys about with that, but I'll save that for tomorrow. Okay. Obviously, we're leaning into back to school, so we're gonna have different conversations about it. This is a little bit heavier. I want to be really clear on this. Uh, is I'm not trying to be a downer. I'm not.

But you know how people's emotional well-being is very important. Uh and uh, you know, I I think we overlook something with kids, and I think it comes from the over the top parents. If you have a parent that loves to embarrass their kid as they're getting ready to go into school, you might be sitting there thinking to yourself, oh, it's all in good fun, it's great, this is, you know, it's just for fun and laughs, and I love it. And I'm that fun mom or dad that likes to do it. There's a problem with it. I'll explain. Listen to what this mom did.

Okay. So it's I get what she's trying to do. She's trying to be cute, she's trying to be funny, and this is an age-old thing where you do a little something to embarrass your kids on the way to school.

Well, it is kind of funny. I mean, I'm not gonna lie, it is kind of funny. But does anybody stop and think, man, school is tough, especially when you get to middle school and then you get to the uh high school?

Oh my god, unless you are one of the most popular kids in the school and everybody knows your parent and everybody knows it's a total joke, and everybody has fun with it. For a lot of kids, that is just a nightmare when it happens, and I legitimately feel bad.

And you know Well, I guess because you did as a parent, do you really know what's going on in those walls, like behind the scenes behind the scenes?

Oh, I think if you got the really yeah, if you got the cool kid, I think you uh, you know, if your kid's well accepted and you have the cool kid, I think it's a totally different atmosphere, and you are oblivious because you don't have the kid that has any sort of emotional struggle going into school.

Right, right. But I'm saying for everyone else, do you really know? I mean, I love my parents, God bless them, but they really didn't know what was going on.

Well, that too. Don't let the car door hit you on the way out. Yeah, pretty much. But uh in all reality, my parents didn't know everything that was going on behind the scenes. How I was really feeling, they didn't know where my mental health was in school whatsoever. I'm they barely showed up for anything. Come on.

I mean, here's this mom thinking, I mean, admittedly it was kind of funny, but here's this mom doing this. And now, what if this kid just hasn't told his parents? Because not every kid wants to tell their parents. Yeah. Hey, I'm having kind of a crappy run here right now. Or or I'm I don't feel how many kids really come forward and go, I'm really not fitting in well. It's pretty rare conversation. Oh my god. They quietly kind of go through it, and then you add that to it. I wish parents would stop being kind of inconsiderate to that. If your kid wants to be dropped off 50 yards from the school and they want to walk the rest of the way, it's not because of you. It's just they well, maybe it is if you did that.

Well, that, and I think it's whatever's going on at school too. Like they uh and for what reason that they're embarrassed, I don't know. But I know at one point when I was much younger, much, much younger, I did have a hard time fitting in at school. I did tell my mom, but I was really young at the time. She had her best friend's daughter talk to me, which really was a big confidence booster. And then later on in life, it was my cousins that I was really close to and was able to bounce stuff off of them. You're probably not gonna bounce stuff off your parents. Well, not for a while.

You do eventually, I think eventually you do. Yeah, but I'm just saying, you know what? Any parent that decides they're gonna do something to have quote unquote fun and embarrass their kid, think before you do it for just a minute to what is that really gonna make them feel like in school? Some people they're just laughing off and you know, and it's fine and they move forward. Other people, it doesn't hit them like that.

Oh, he'd be so mad at me. Yes. But then he's actually uh he's very blessed. He is a kid that is pretty well accepted. Yes. And a lot of people gravitate towards him. So I think it'd be kind of funny. But you know what? He would be like, Dad, come on. But I wouldn't do it to him because I'm like, you know Which is shocking. You don't need I know, but you don't need they all know who I am, but I'm not gonna do it to them because I don't need to lay that extra layer of stress on the kid. And that's what so many parents don't realize.

You just laid an extra layer of stress on a kid going into middle school or the early years of high school because you're trying to Right, because you're trying to go to vi you're trying to go viral while your kid all they're trying to do is stay under the radar.
