One new Screwworm case, a topical drug, is now approved
Recently, there were two developments in the spread of the New World Screwworm in Mexico. First, a new case was confirmed in the northern state of Nuevo León, Mexico, about 120 miles from the Texas border on Dec. 2. The animal was part of a group of cattle being taken from southern Mexico to a feedlot in Nuevo León. Mexico’s recorded animal infestations (mainly cattle, horses, and pigs) of New World Screwworm since the start of the outbreak in November 2024 is now over 11,000.
