Show Notes Transcript

KG in Vegas, Steve in Mexico, John in North Minneapolis retrieving his stolen car. A big, fun week for 2/3 of the KC Crew. Also, "Galentine's Day!" It is an annual event. Some lovely stories of  kindness  from which we can all learn and be inspired. Enjoy.

Welcome to the Kindness Chronicles, where we hope to inject the world with a dose of the Valentine's love that it desperately needs. It's Galentine's Day! It's another episode of listening to middle aged women tell us stories. But first! Watch it. That's one of them right there. But first, KG! You're on the road. Where are we finding you at today? Beautiful Tempe, Arizona, where it is 68 and sunny and everything you would hope for on a day off, um, in the middle of winter. That's fantastic. Have you gotten your steps in? I did, I went out this morning and uh, got a little three mile walk in Oh wow. My favorite, uh, fantasy golf podcast on and, uh, had the time of my life. Well, this is fantastic. And you were in Vegas on Super Bowl Sunday. Tell us what that was like. Well, I'll tell you what it was. It was cool to be there, knowing the game was just like. Literally a mile away from our hotel, but I gotta I gotta tell you the old guy in me. It's just too much. There's too many people There's nowhere to move. There was nowhere to go eat, but while did a really smart thing. They got us a room At the hotel we were staying at and had a big screen TV with volume, open bar, a bunch of appetizers. So we sat and uh, and watched the game there and, and had a ball. Then after the game we kind of walked around to see all the people and it was just crazy. Oh, I bet. I bet. And I would imagine that there were a bunch of Minnesota Wild fans that were down there for the Super Bowl that made it a, a two for one. Yeah, you know, typically when the Wild play the Golden Knights, it's about half and a half. I think because the game was on a Monday last night, um, there were a few less Wild fans, but we did see You always see the wild jerseys and t shirts walking around that city when Minnesota plays out there. They do go back out there, I believe, the same weekend of the Masters, so early April. So I think you'll see a lot more Minnesotans then. Okay. did your team win in the Super Bowl? Do you care? I didn't have a dog in the fight. I um, I will tell ya. I do appreciate greatness. It's why we love sports. It's why I love sports. Well that's why we're friends. Isn't that? Well you're a great character. I'll say that. Wait, what were you going to say about Mahomes? Yeah, before I interrupted you rudely. Well no, I just think it's um, It's fun to watch players like that, Mahomes, compete. He would play the game in my eyes if he wasn't getting paid. He just seems like a kid at the playground, running around, throwing the football, smile on his face the whole time. Like I really do appreciate the way he goes about his business. So it was fun to see him when I kind of was pulling for Brock birdie. Me too. Yeah. Great story. I always say last kid pick. Yeah. Um, there was no reason for me to have. Too much passion on either side of the ledger, but in the end it lived up to the hype after a terrible first half. Uh, the third and fourth quarter in overtime were just spectacular, so it was fun. Brock Purdy just looks like a 12 year old, and you just, you just love the kid, he just seems so, he doesn't have a hair on his face, like I don't think he could grow a beard if he needed to. Well, Mahomes is only 28 years old, for God's sake. That's true, and he can't grow a beard, but he's trying, that's okay. And Steve. Yeah. You're back from Mexico. Hola. Was it muy bien? Yeah, muy bueno. And where in Mexico were you? We went to Puerto Vallarta. And it was a beautiful wedding, fireworks, the whole thing. At the end, my, my, uh, niece, Gabi and Nick. What does he to me, but Nephew in law. Yeah, it was beautiful. We saw whales on the ocean. Very nice. I bet you saw some whales at the pool. Well, that's not very kind. No, in the ocean. That was, it was a great trip. Very fun. Great to be back, but Well, good. And, um, I have big news. Uh, the last episode that we posted was, uh, they stole my car. Yeah. Uh, they returned my car. Like, not to my house, but, uh, it was, uh, discovered a couple of days later in North Minneapolis. Not a scratch. I think they may have gotten it detailed and you went back to the same gas station I went back to you know, cuz guy. Yes, that's good. Good for you I did have running shoes on this time Yeah, if you you parked in the same spot And it was really fun as the guy Victor who was working at the gas station was working there. He goes wait Where'd you the guy? And I was like, yep. Here we are again. And he goes, and you came back here? I'm like, yeah, you know, I'm gonna bring it down. I can find your car. Uh, so apparently the Minneapolis Police Department has this technology where when they drive down a street, it recognizes License plates. And it mainly recognizes license plates for people that have like warrants out for the rest while they're out driving around. And apparently somebody drove by this house in North Minneapolis and there was a ping. And there was the car and they towed it and I got it out of, what do you call that place? The, um. Impound lot. Impound lot, yeah. For 138 bucks, which is probably more than it would've cost to get the, uh, the criminals out on bail. But that's a whole nother podcast. That's, that's great though that you got your car back and it's, it's in okay shape. And it was, it was clean. I had just gotten it washed and I had gotten it, you know, it's cleaned out and it, it just fantastic. So I That's good story. That was my moment of fame. Yeah. Which is kind of pathetic. You got a new, and you got a new story, which didn't. Two news stories. Two multiple news stories. W-C-C-K-S tp, you were fantastic. That's right. I want very, that's looking good. Those new glasses. Yeah, the new glasses. I gotta tell you, the Harry Care collection the car gone. The podcast will only grow from here when we can have, you know, some links to your No kidding interviews on the news to tee up folks to come watch us here or listen to. On the Kindness Chronicle, that was really well done, John. Yeah, your, your, uh, unfortunate incident is really good for us, so keep it going. Yeah, I, I do want to tell, um, a quick Don't Be That Guy story that's unrelated to the car being stolen. But, uh, I was at a function over the weekend and one of the, the gentlemen there noticed that I was wearing new glasses and he said, Are those from the Elvis Presley collection? Or the Elton John collection. Oh man, did you know this guy? I knew him a little bit. That's pretty rough. So he mentioned that to me in private. And there was about 80 people in the room. And I tried it out again. I just decided to say, you know, I appreciate the concern that some of you have for my vision impairment. You know, my diabetes has kicked in and I'm no longer able to see like I used to. And I'm just, I'm grateful. But to be clear, these are not from Elvis Presley. collection. They are not from the Elton John collection. These glasses are part of the Harry Carey collection. What do you say? What do they they I just said, if my, disability is your playground, have at it. Go crazy. You're never gonna be invited on the Kindness Chronicles. But who we have invited Yes. on the Kindness Chronicles today is Ms. Kindness. KG's special friend. Oh, dear God, Oh, yes, that's correct. In studio, we've got Ms. Chrissy Bailey, mother of, uh, Brooks and Fenner's. and, uh, mother of, Kevin Gorg. Yes. So Chrissy mother, put that mic up to your, uh, up to your yapper. There. There you go. Very good. Tonight is a big night here at the Schitz House. It's the third annual Gallant Times's Day Festivities. Yes. Yes. And we, um, we've interviewed you gals in the past. And I think it was post cocktails because there was a little bit of slurred speech going on. So we wanted to get you early on in the evening. And we asked each of you to think back over your many, many years of life. And share a story of kindness that will inspire the crowd and provide for that dose of oxytocin that we all need. Let's, can we just do one, go back a little bit and explain a little bit of the history of Galentine's Day. It's just so our listeners who maybe didn't listen a couple years ago. So I'm gonna, I'm gonna give my version of Galentine's Day. So there's this group of gals. There's a whole ruckus upstairs. Seventeen of them. Yeah. I think 12 or 13 of them will be here tonight, but it is a group of gals that, uh, has figured out a way to spend just about every non working hour with each other in some capacity or another. And it's fantastic for those of us that are, partners with those people because it just allows us more time on the couch. Right? We give and we give. You give and you give. Like, for example, one of my favorite things is when Becky goes away to Tahoe with Chrissy and Terry and Jenny and sometimes Linda and sometimes Resur. And they spend a whole week out there, and let me tell ya, the couch gets a workout that week. So, I'm, I'm grateful, but they, they do get together probably once a month for some special occasion. Is this a college gang of girls? Mostly. Early college, yes. Early college, okay. And, there's a couple of, uh, You know, hangers on. My sister's a gusty. She's still a good person. A hanger on. And then there's a couple of University of Minnesota people up there, isn't there? Isn't Carrie from Minnesota? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. My bad, my bad. I always think of her as St. Thomas. Yeah, because she married a Tommy. Which is rare for those girls. In fact, I think only, only two of you are with Tommies. Other than Carrie, who's not a Tommy with Tommy. And that's you and me, KG. We're the lucky ones. KG, would you like to, do you have any questions for Ms. Bailey? Did the dogs get walked? Um, how are the dogs doing? But in all Oh, that's fantastic. Um, I gotta tell ya, the hardest part of traveling is being away from those dogs and, um, so Chrissy is nice enough to share pictures, um, they got the fresh haircut, um, they got a couple of good looks today as she was trying to work from home where they were looking for more, uh, more treats and more, um, quality time with mom, so no, it's been, I've been getting lots of updates and feeling the love out here. Just do you feed them out of your hand like Kevin does? No. You don't? No. No. No. So why do you do that, Kevin? Why do you, Kevin? Again, let's just qualify this now. Mealtime now, they get their little soft food and little miniature meatballs spread over these little pizza plates that are triangular because the littler of the two brothers is Brooks, and when we put it in the bowl, he was bashful. He wouldn't stick his snout in there. And the big guy, Fenway, Would just take all his food. That's why he's the big guy in the bowl. Yeah. I sometimes though, in between meals, if they want like a little meatball snack, we'll feed them from my hand. That's what you saw me do. I think you stopped by last year and you were laughing about me, uh, getting down to that Joe Maurer, uh, catcher's position to give them the meatball out of my hand and they were. Nearly taking my fingers off as they enjoyed their snack. It was a good look. In fact, before we get to you, Chrissy, I have one more comment. So, it's kind of like when we've got a plate of appetizers in front of us and I'm going Brooks about it and you're just all Fenway, aren't you? Just pounding the apps. I'm trying to choke down the first rib and where did they all go? Yep, they're gone. Anyway, so Chrissy I'm over the quick face. You, you have a, a story for us, hopefully I do, but I don't think I read the instructions closely. So my, you can tell us. You can do whatever you want is a re I thought we were supposed to come up with a recent one that's free form. Yeah. Whatever. So I'm gonna, yeah, I'm gonna just go with that. I probably would've dug a little deeper otherwise. And it ties into the puppies ironically, which is sort of funny. Yeah. Uh, we have had, since the. Puppies were born at whatever, they're 10 years old now. The same person who walks them when we're gone and takes care of them and that kind of thing. And she's delightful. Well, she started working with me in our neighborhood and now she takes care of, I think, every dog in the neighborhood. Oh, wow. She's in my neighborhood more than I am. And, um, I should say our. neighborhood. Um, we know how it is over there. K. G. Is just a tenant. Yes, exactly. Exactly. Uh, squatter, squatter. Um, and so unfortunately she was in a bad car accident a couple weeks ago and she She's not, you know, financially real well off. She has had some, you know, challenges financially, so she totaled her car. Oh, man. And, uh, one of the women in my neighborhood was so fantastic, she texted out to all of us that, um, you, you know, have Karen help us out, and Karen's really like a family member, and asked if people want to chip in money, and she had no idea how much she would end up getting, and so she, Karen was able then to use that money for a down payment on a new car, and she came driving in this cute little red car, and she was like beaming with happiness. Kevin, you can probably add a little bit to that, but she was just so grateful and so appreciative and I think it made her feel really good. That's pretty wild. That's, that's pretty cool. Yeah, it was. Pretty generous of a neighborhood. Well, they do live in Minnetonka, so it's, you know. Well, I, but a little bit earlier, I had to live in. I know, I know. I do not live in Minnetonka. Well, I gotta get to the rest of the story, John. Um, you know, our dog walker, Karen, is such a sweet lady. She's been unbelievable to our, to our guys. And so she's really a part of our family and she does not like crowds and does not like a lot of attention. So when they were originally getting this, this gathering together on her behalf, Chrissy kind of stepped in and said, you know, we should really just get the funds together and and either just present it to her. In a quiet space, but let's not have like 30 people there crowding around her and that to me made the whole thing kind of brought it full circle because Chrissy was intuitive enough to kind of direct it in a different way and make sure that she felt a little more comfortable and just hearing her responses after and really pretty amazing that Colleen and Chrissy kind of put this whole thing together and I know Chrissy likes to So, Be a little modest when it comes to some of the things she does, but um, it was remarkable to see the impact that had on Karen's life. I mean, the fact of the matter is, is if all those gals that are upstairs, Chrissy is probably the sweetest one of all of them. And I mean that sincerely. She is starting with the best. I know. Let me finish. Comma. She is until she isn't like we've got high highs and yet some, uh, you know, I've seen the look. I've seen the look. I've seen the look. I get it daily. So even when I'm out, even when I'm in Arizona, I got the look earlier because, uh, apparently my phone connection wasn't good enough and, uh, I could feel the look even from Minnesota. I'm Bill Bailey's daughter, so you don't get by without having the look. Heaven help us. Well, anyway, Chrissy, thank you for, uh, sharing your, uh, your story. Could you find the next victim and send them down here? I will send them down. Thanks for having me. And we will review your, uh, your story. We're going to grade you. I thought it was very nice. Excellent. All right, we should have a chart here and we show them when they come down where they rain, you know, that's that's for the fourth anniversary Yes Thank you guys. Thanks Chrissy. So KG, um, she looks fantastic as she always does. Of course. You know, of course she's got the perfect outfit for the occasion. Little, you know, heart icon on her shirt. I mean, she's just, she's top notch. There, yeah, there's like a dress code a bit. There's a, there's a Warm, cozy, uh, hearts and pink. There's a lot of, there's a lot of people that have bought into the, uh, into the shtick, as they say. So, what is, this isn't something that they've invented, I have heard the term before, but what is it, just a, it's a decision to get together with your gal friends? With your gal friends. They have little boxes up there that you put your, like they have little kids, like, uh, valentines cards. And you know. Wow. Is that your stomach, Kevin? What was that noise? A guy's decided he didn't want to have a muffler on his truck. Oh. And for what it's worth, I can barely hear that other mic, the one that Chrissy was on. The one that Chrissy was on? Can you turn up that mic there? Which one? Pull up a chair, Jennifer. Which one? Uh, I think she's number two. Okay, we're gonna try this. She was looking at John, so She talked sideways. Yeah, so we need you to talk right into the mic if you could. That'd be terrific. Next we have Jenny Maddox. Yeah, you put those on. Those are headphones. And, uh, we're gonna invite you to talk right into the mic. So, welcome to the studio, Jenny. Here's my introduction of Jenny. Yeah. Um, Jenny is, I'm going to whisper this, but she's probably Riley's favorite. She was Riley's, um, confirmation sponsor. This is your daughter Riley. This is my daughter Riley. She's so good to Rye. She's good to all of us, but just, she and Rye have a very special bond. They're both blondes. Um, we don't know where that came from. She's my blonde haired daughter. She's the blonde haired daughter. Yes. But, um, we have asked the gals for Galentine's Day to, uh, recall a story of kindness that they experienced during their, uh, many years on this earth. What you got for us, Jenny? Alright. Um, kind of a short story, but it's actual to me. Can you hear her, Kevin? Can you hear me? I'm gonna Hey, Kevin's on the line. Hey, Kev. Hey Kevin, how are you? Great to hear you. Now we're talking. Fantastic. Are you wearing pink or red so I can get the whole picture in my mind? I'm wearing red. Yeah, red. White pants. You know, the outfit was very well, uh Yeah, there's a lot of, that's Chrissy. Really? Yeah. Isn't it John? Probably. It's very similar. Must be. I have no idea. Must They're like a bunch of bookends, I guess. Yeah. That's cool. Uh, perfect. There's a, there's a, there's an, um, a uniform too. That's cool. Yes. Yeah. So, Jenny, tell us your story. Okay. Story is probably 16 years ago. Okay. I moved to St. Paul. Yep. Um, moved to a new home. So, both girls, I have two girls, Megan, Katie, both started new schools. Katie was, uh, starting at Nativity, so we switched parishes, and Megan was starting high school. Um. CDH, correct? She was at CDH. She's a Raider. Oh, yay. Mm hmm. Good for her. Um, but Katie was starting at Nativity. And fourth grade didn't know anyone. And I didn't know anyone in that community either. And, um, as we moved in, uh, I have three people to highlight. One is Kate Wolin. Kate Wolin is the principal at Nativity Elementary. And Kate made sure That Katie, Katie Maddox, was welcomed, um, in a way that I've never seen a principal do before. Oh wow. What grade was this? Fourth grade. Okay, okay. She moved in fourth grade. Okay. Katie came from, uh, an elementary school in Invergrove Heights that was nine classes of thirty each. Holy cow. To a very small school. Okay. Yep. Um, out of which everyone, I think, knew each other from the day they were born. Yeah, fourth grade's a risky time, it's a tricky time. And that's Nativity, the Nativity Parish is famous for that. You have St. Small, and then you even have Nativity within that. Very, very tight community. Um, and so Kate, uh, introduced Katie to, A significant number of girls that, uh, and guys that really embraced her along the way. Um, and even, there were three boys that started following Katie home from school. Not a surprise if you've ever seen Katie. Well, they would throw acorns at her. Well, that's what you do. So they were called the Acorn Boys. Yeah, we're Neanderthals. It's part of our DNA. We are, John. Amen. That's right. So Kate Wolin brought the Acorn Boys in, had a little chat, and they all ended up being good friends, and those are some of Katie's good friends still today. So that's one side of the story. But then Kate Wolin also introduced me to a couple moms within the Nativity community. Anne Fontaine. and Missy Finn, and those two both had daughters, same age as Katie. Those two are still some of my best friends today. Those two were, um, they had busy lives of their own. They had no lack of friends and community themselves, as you know, various. Tight community. Oh, absolutely. And they welcomed me in, um, even as a divorced mom coming into a community, Catholic community like that, which was really sweet. And, um, they made time, and they invited me to events, um, they had school events, uh, other events, and, um, really embraced me, which was great. Made all the difference in the world. And, you know, those are exactly the kind of things that we hope people, you know, take from this. it's so important when there's somebody that's new to a, to a situation, that somebody takes them under their wing. Because it's It could be terrible if you don't have those kind of guardians in the community. And who's not automatically drawn to Jenny Maddox, for God's sake. They didn't throw any acorns or anything at you? Well There were a bunch of dads. There were a bunch of dads throwing acorns at Jenny, but that's a whole nother story. Oh boy. No, so it was a great move. It was a tough move, but at the same time that those three women made it an incredibly Easy transition. That's fantastic. And they're still pals of yours. Still great pals. That's cool. And the, uh, my daughter is still two of her besties are the daughters of those two women. How old's your daughter now? Uh, Katie, 24. Yeah, 23, 24, somewhere in there. 24. Yeah. And you should probably know those things. The fact that you're telling the story now, that was a long time ago. It was. 20 years ago. That's, that's pretty cool. That's, um, it must have really meant something. Obviously, that's what you're telling us. That's cool. Yep. Change the trajectory. You really don't know where life is going to go and the people that you're going to meet and those are some really impactful people for me. Well there you have it. There's a good one. There's another good story. Thank you. Thank you, Jenny. Thanks, Jenny. All right. Have fun, Jenny. KG. See ya. So, who doesn't love? Jenny Maddox and her special friend John couldn't be more fun. He can be kind of a pain in the ass once in a while, but generally He's damn funny. Oh, he's damn funny. He's painfully funny. And he'll send zingers our way. You and I tend to be the punching bags. Yeah, why is that? I think because he knows we can take it because, you know, we're guys that kind of roll with the punches maybe, I don't know. Couple acorn throwers. Um, John, at this point, what's going on upstairs and what phase are they in right now? I know they just got some Drinking. Oh, so the drinking probably has started. Okay, alright. And oh my gosh, come on in, wait till you see who we have up next. Several episodes ago, we had the Boim Boys on. Oh, yeah! And this is the mother of the Boim Boys. The Boim Boys must have put it on some sort of social media because there were a lot of downloads for the Boim Boys. Maybe they did. They're popular young men. Very popular. Impressive dudes, yes. We enjoyed having them. They were in here, actually, in the studio. They were right here in the studio. Well, and I didn't even know the studio was down here because last night Put on your headphones. Put your headphones on and put your mic close to your mush. Yeah, talk closer to that mic so I can hear Miss Brenda. I don't lean in. So, this is how I always like to introduce Brenda. She's Brenda Brown. She'll always be Brenda Brown to me, but I know Brenda Brown really well, um, because well, everybody knows Brenda very well. She, anytime you get a friend request from somebody on Facebook and it says, you've got two mutual friends. One of them is usually Brenda Brown. One of them is Scott Berg. Yeah, Scott Berg. Scott Berg and Brenda Brown. I'm not kidding ya. I mean, what do you guys It's a six degrees thing. Absolutely. It's a six degrees of Brenda Brown. Well, I don't, I don't know. Well, you know. So, Brenda grew up in Minnetonka. Oh, good for you. Wow. O N K A. O N K A. Woo! Oh, there you go. Nice, Kevin. We went to St. Thomas together how did the boys enjoy their time in here in the studio? They loved it. I thought it was great. Thanks you guys for having them. Neither one of those guys are short on personality. No, they're interesting kids, yeah. And the, the, the sarcasm is real with those guys. And you guys didn't even have Eddie here. Oh, I know. It would have been that much worse. We heard all about Eddie though. We, we, we know, we know, we know a little bit about him. character. He's the goalie in the family. Yes, he is. Oh, boy. Well, there's something about goalies, right, Kevin? And I mean, to call him Fast Eddie wouldn't be too much of a stretch because I understand that Eddie might have a bit of a gambling situation in his life. Situation's a nice word. Yes. Actually, guess where Eddie is right now? Prison. Maybe mystically. Oh, come. Is he 18? He doesn't have a fake ID to gamble, does he? His brother is home with mom from Colorado. Oh, my God. But Eddie and I are going to have a breakfast here during spring break and we're going to have a little heart to heart on flowing his role. He's got that twinkle in his eye. He does. He's one of those kids, like, since he was in diapers. I just, I remember vividly how happy he was as a kid and he's that same kid now. I just love Eddie. All three boys are just The nicest kid. Uh, so yeah. Send their love their way. That's fun. He is the embodiment of a shit eating grin. Yes, he is. Wouldn't you say? Like, he's always got that, like, you're going, he's got something up his sleeve. And he thinks he knows everything. He's one step ahead of you. Well, you know, maybe he does. Maybe he does. Is he a junior or senior? He's a junior. So he's probably barely 16. He'll be 17 Okay, well then that's okay. I hope the Medewakanton Sioux are okay with him down there. He's Leo Boim right now. Oh, he's Leo Boim. Leo's home with Mano. Oh! He flew back from Boulder. Oh no! And lent his ID this is this going no police are gonna hear this right now. Oh, no, no police. Listen. No, we don't have police on here Anything like that? No So brenda We've invited all of the gals upstairs to share a story of kindness in their in their past and i'm hoping that you have something Good before before you tell a story brenda I just want to share with the audience that brenda has a heart sweatshirt on Yeah, and put your glasses on just for a second brenda just so we can from last so john can see them. All right These are heart shaped, uh, pink, rose colored, uh, beautiful There's clearly a lot of planning that goes into what are we gonna wear. No kidding. Yeah. Dudes don't, even, even, dudes don't do this, go this far for their parties. And I just recognized it's Steve Brown and Brenda Brown. I know, we might be related. You guys could be cousins. Yep. I have Cousin Zebra. Okay. So you look awesome. I just wanted to make sure our listeners Well, thank you. Understood. You are in full gallant's regalia. I'm full gallant's and you look awesome in a very non harassment sort of way. Thank you. How's that? Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, the glasses help. K Yik. So you have a story? Um, my story, yes. And my story has to be not. Kindness from our GNO group, correct? Correct. Because I have a lot from the GNO group. Yeah, we've heard enough about those people. And the story that I'm going to tell is not from the GNO group, but some of those individuals did this as well for me. Okay. I just recently became a special ed teacher. Yes. A little nervous about it because it's not my background. And, um, the night before I was starting school, my roommate from business school at Northwestern, Oh, North, Kellogg. Oh, good for you. She, Oh, it's picture time. Hello. Okay. Yeah, oh God, of course, you might as well be in the picture. Why wouldn't you be? You're so cute. Becky, it's so lovely. Okay. Anyway, she dropped off what's called, it was a little bag called the teacher's survival kit and included a Snickers candy bar, a little thing of fireball, just in case, you know, like pencils, pens, post it notes, and then a really great letter. Just, you know, very inspirational and just thanking me for doing what I do. And it was just really nice. And I was really nervous about going to school the next day and. Becoming a teacher when I don't know what I'm doing. You have had a lot of very interesting careers. Here we go. Seriously. I mean, you started out as, like, an accountant at which place? Uh, same as your boys. Oh, Price Waterhouse, well. And then you were, weren't you working for the airline? I worked for, yep, after graduate school I worked for Northwest Airlines, Oracle. Oracle, then Oracle. Northwest. Yeah. I actually saw Brenda in her element at an event at the Masonic Heritage Center. Yes. You were there for a show and you had your little pal with you at the event. So tell us about your, the, the, what you do in that role. So I'm a special education resource teacher. So kids come in and out of my room all day, so I'm not, I don't have a class of X number of kids, I have 21 kids on my caseload, and they just come and go throughout the day, or I push in to help them in their classes, and I had one little, the one you met, um, he is just, uh, moved here from inner city Chicago. Oh wow. Made an adjustment, I'm at Chanhassen Elementary. Um, and it was a big adjustment for him, so he and I have been kind of like glued together. Oh that's sweet. For the last five months or so, and he's doing great. Uh huh. He's doing really great. At the beginning. He, he was overwhelmed and he left the room a lot and he was having some struggles, but he's doing, and your job is in that capacity to do what for him? So I, I work on the, so I work on reading and writing with kids, math, um, behavior regulation, um, social skills and, um, executive functioning. So like long-term memory. Okay. And processing. So I mainly, I am probably divided, probably pretty equally, three parts between social. Math, and then language arts or reading, writing. So, different skills for different kids, and some kids need them all, and they come to me most of the day, and then, some kids, and I mainly have 3rd graders, couple 2nd graders, handful of 4th graders, but primarily 3rd graders. One of the reasons that we suggested that you don't come up with a story about one of the, the GNO gals is my concern was, is that they'd all be stories about Chrissy. Yeah. And, and it would be like, okay, here we go. When's the coronation going to begin? Actually, you know who else bought me a teacher survival kit? Chrissy. Oh my God. So, here's what's funny. It is, it's Valentine's, it's Galentine's Day. So, there's all kinds of Valentine's decorations throughout the house. Yeah, it's wild up there. And I say to Becky, where'd you get that Chrissy? Where did this one come, Chrissy? Chrissy is the ultimate gift giver. Yes, she is. She really is. She just, she's a heart of gold. She spent some time in that general store. That's where I got my gift for Becky tonight. So what was that, KG? I'm sorry I spoke over you like I like to do. It's okay, um, it's the magic of being a call in guy. Yeah. But, uh, no, the boutiques that I have sat in and watched this year's She's a giver, like we said, but she loves the, uh, the idea of going to look and tied it into that person's, uh, affections. It's something to see. She brought me the best notebook, and I use it every single day at school. She brought that the night before I started, too. That's Chrissy. It was very nice. This is the ode to Chrissy Bailey here. As it should be, as it should be. I know, I know. So, KG, um, what time do you have to be done? 6. 30? It's 630 your time. Yeah. Okay. About five, six minutes. Five, six minutes to do KG. Oh, yeah. What do you think? Of course he does. I'm doing dinner plans out here in Tampa. You know, I'm a social butterfly. No, I'm not. Where are you having dinner tonight? Real close to the hotel. Um, at a little, uh, cantina with a patio. And then the people I'm having dinner with that I work with, they're a part of the Wild Digital team, understand that when they go out after to go have some cold beverages. I will be walking the one block south to the AMC movie theater to go see Argyle tonight. Oh, nice. Do they have good popcorn or have you not checked yet? It's AMC, so the butter's no good. You have to go plain and get the Raisinets on the side. It's pretty solid. I put Melteds in mine. His strategy. He's always got a strategy. As everyone knows, I bring my own butter to the movie theater. I melt it before we leave. That's horrible. I put it in my front pocket and it stays warm. I'm not kidding. It's in a little It's in like one of the No. Are you serious? No, it's not a water bottle. It's one of those ketchup squirter things. Gross. Yeah, and you shake it up because, you know, there's a little coagulation that goes on in there. Yeah. And then there's chunks. So there's like butter chunks at the end. God damn, I'm good at that. I'm getting hungry, you guys. Alright, alright. Brenda, would you send down your next pal? I sure will. Thanks for having me, guys. Thank you, and good luck to Leo. I hope he feels better. Oh, thank you. He's heading back to Colorado tomorrow. Oh, good. Get him out of here. Yeah. You ever notice when your kids come home, they, they use a lot of towels? Yeah, they do. And eat a lot of food. Yeah, oh my god. Ben was home for like a day and a half. And I bet you there's a half a dozen towels. It's hanging over like the, the, the posts on his bed. Yeah. What is the deal with that? I don't know. Towels all over the floor. Clothes on the floor. It's, it's just what. Just insanity. Young adults do. So yeah, we got to hear what Argyle, how Argyle is. It looks pretty interesting. I'm not sure what I think about it. It looks okay, right? Like it, it looks, I, I don't know how they're going to pull it off. I'm skeptical, but it's the only movie showing. Here in Tempe that I haven't seen. I wanted to see Bob Marley's One Love, but that starts tomorrow. Oh yeah, yeah, Valentine's Day. I will see that this weekend when I get back to Minnesota. I cannot wait to see that movie. So Argyle looks, yeah, I'm kind of with you, it looks sort of cheesy, but there's a ton of people in it and there's kind of a lot of good Oration about it? I love Sam Rockwell. I watch anything he's in. I love him. Did you hear Sam Rockwell on uh, on uh, Smartless? Smartless, our biggest competitor for podcast listeners. Yeah, don't we wish, don't we wish. But what was that movie he was in when he was a late guard? I loved that movie. The Way Way Back, I love it too. Yeah. So good. Phenomenal, phenomenal. The Way Way Back. For our listeners is one to try to find on Netflix or wherever you download your movies. It's really, really good. It's just a sweet little movie, a little story about a kid's summer and kind of the issues he has with his stepdad and his, he works at a water slide place. It's awesome. It's a great, it's a great movie. Great movie. I loved him in the, uh, that Three Billboards movie. Yeah, he was good. He's just, I think he won an Academy Award for it. Hey, real quick, KG, before you go. Who are your picks for the, uh, the Academy Awards? You got a favorite for film of the year? You know, it's funny, I haven't seen the nominees. The best movie, people always ask, okay, you're the movie guy, what's the best movie you've seen? And I don't even know if this one is up for an Academy Award, but The Boys in the Boat, um, was spectacular. Directed, uh, and produced by George Clooney, an excellent, excellent movie. I'm not a big rowing guy. My physique will tell you all you need to know there, but, um, it is far more about the characters in the movie and it's a true story and it's just a wonderful movie. So if you haven't seen it, uh, it's no longer in theaters. It was out kind of during the holidays, but the boys and the boat is one not to miss here. It's the best movie I saw. Uh, this past year. Well, hi, Carrie. We have our next guest. Welcome to the, uh, to the, uh, to the podcast video. Cocktail in hand. Yes. She's wearing pink. She's ready to go. Of course she's wearing pink. She's wearing pink. This is Carrie. Carrie, who is married to a Tommy, so she's one of the good ones. We decided, Kerry, that you and Chrissy and Becky are the only ones that were lucky enough to land a Tommy. I know. It's better when you speak into the mic. I'm just gonna throw that out there. Oh, okay. Let me get settled. She's gotta get settled. I'm very anxious. KG, I know that you've gotta get to your, uh, to your precious dinner, but do you wanna, do you got any words of wisdom or any greetings for our friend Kerry? Well, you know, Carrie is one of my very favorites, and, um Oh, I can't wait for the others to hear that. She belongs in a slot here on the Kindness Chronicles because she is always, always thinking of others. But I have to tell you guys, she'll never bring this up, but the Wild played in Sweden a couple months ago. Oh, that's right! And I needed a favor, and I needed, I needed to shine some light on some Minnesota fans that had made the trip all the way over to see their favorite hockey team. And I gotta tell ya, Wally, her husband, uh, and, and Carrie Uh, stole the show. I did probably 15 different in game hits. Throughout that weekend series and everybody I talked to from our company to wild fans that I know, my friends back home all said the same thing. That was the best one we did. And that's because she was so unbelievably good. And so I have to, I have to tell her right now on the show that, uh, don't come for my job. I need the money So what, what did you do? You did an interview with them. I don't understand. She was interviewed. I did an interview in game and it had to be, there was pressure to have. Uh, we were taping everything because of the broadcast coming from Sweden. So they taped and it was going to air like 20 minutes later, but we had this window of like 52 seconds that we had to hit right on the spot. And my producer's like, dude, your friends don't do TV. This thing could blow up. And I'm like, no, just trust these two, they're really good. Absolutely out of break to Carrie. She nailed it. She was energetic, succinct, and we hit it like right on the 52 second number. And my producer was like, I should never doubt you. You have great friends. You're an idiot, but you're a great friend. That's not true. It kind of is. That's not true. Great job, Carrie. You podcast. More importantly, let's just I'm wearing pink out here in Tempe in honor of the ladies. Enjoy, Galen. I'm sure that's a good look. KG in pink. Be safe, KG. All right. Enjoy the movie. Hope to see you guys. Bye bye. Bye bye. So, Carrie, welcome. Thank you. Carrie is always just got the sweetest demeanor. I will say that, uh, Carrie's daughter, Hannah, is sincerely one of my favorites. She's always so sweet, always so bubbly. She's an Irish dancer, so of course that's a, uh, She was. She was, but I mean, she, I mean, that's, once you do it, it's kind of who you are. Yes. Steve, let me, let me just say that Carrie has a, oh, yeah. Steve describing Steve. Steve is describing all of the outfits. Yeah. But just, just to, so listeners, so getting an understanding of what Gallant Times's Day is all about. Yeah. Carrie has a, a really pretty pink, pink sweater. Um, she has a drink in hand as she has a. Uh, Socks with hearts, red hearts all over them. So she's, she's full on, it's a whole thing. I hope not every, I hope somebody up there doesn't come down and they're not dressed for the occasion. Yeah. Describe this drink that you're having. Is that some sort of a spicy Spicy margarita, right? And I think it's got pop rocks along the rim. Oh yeah. Wait, do you guys not have one? No. We're trying to keep it. We're working right now. We're working. Yes. We're keeping it clean. Well, I'll mix you one. Oh good. That's just what we need. Yes. Um, so Carrie, we've asked the gals to come up with a story from the past. And, uh, we suggested that it not be about one of the other g and o gals because there would be score keeping. Like why do they keep talking about her? Why do you keep saying G and L? Oh, G and O. Girls Night Out. Girls Night Out. Oh, okay. See, that's, come on. I didn't know that. So, no, I thought it was like you were saying, Gallatine Day something with some kind of, but Girls Night Out gang, that's, that's their thing. And their, and their mascot is the gmi, like a little gmi gno. Gnomes. The G N O M E. Love it. See, now it's all, it's getting clearer and clearer. It's me, I have to keep asking the questions so we can make it clear for our, our audience. Thank you. And you know, I take these things for granted. I know. Um, I, Becky instructed me to go to St. Thomas and she bought a bunch of Christmas ornaments that had St. Thomas G N O M E's on them. Oh. And, um, they didn't have enough of them, so there was like an extra order placed and Ben had to go and get the rest so there was enough for all. That's like an official thing? Yes, yes, it's the official mascot of the GNO. But not just these ladies? No, just these ladies. They have a, they have a No, at St. Thomas it just was a happenstance that they had a GNO. A, a, a gnome St. Thomas thing. Okay. Back to you, Carrie. Enough of my voice. How much editing is going to happen here? Lots. Probably a lot. Steve doesn't care. Chewing gum. Um, it was funny that you had KG on and we talked a little bit about Sweden because My most recent, I shouldn't say recent, but I mean my most memorable kind of story is of my children. And then of course I sit down and you start talking about one of my children. Well, they're lovely children. They're all adults now. Yeah, so we got a Jack, we got a Hannah, and we got a Louie. Yes. And just real quick, my favorite Christmas card. Of all time. Louie was probably four years old. No, he was one. He was only one in that picture? And the two other cherubs look absolutely precious. And Louie's got his arms thrown up in the air and he does not want anything to do with being in this photograph. And we actually have it in a frame. On the wall, upstairs in our, uh, sort of hall of fame. Yes. The wall of fame. The hall of frame. So anyways, your children. So anyways, that is what I decided our, that my kindness story would be. Okay. So it is tied to the Sweden story that KG started off with. Um, all three of our kids are very close in age. I don't know if you know that or remember that. Yeah, boom, boom, boom. Exactly. And, um, you know, so we had Wally wouldn't leave you alone during that era. Exactly. I literally had to say, you either move down the street or you need to get snipped because Oh, snipped. We are done with this. We're not going to talk about that. You can edit that out. Okay. Anyways, so our kids are very close in age and, um There were a couple of years where they were all three in college and you know even leading up to that It's all three embraces all three driving and the insurance and all three everything children are not they're expensive Inexpensive they're not cheap. Ours are lovely and it was they are worth every penny that we have put into this Anyways, so Louie our youngest just graduated college in May. Okay, it's past me I think it was like right around, I want to say it was right around Mother's Day and we were all at home. He had moved, you know, out of his college place. He was leaving for a month long European adventure with his buddies, just in a couple of days. So we were hanging out one day at our house with, um, the whole family and it was Mother's Day. And so they were, you know. Well, I would hope so. Doting on me. That's how it's supposed to be. You know, one day a year. Part of my gift was, you know, they got me a Mother's Day gift, but then part of it was also involved Tom. The other half of our amazing kids. Of the Reichenbach. And, um. So they even like created this, you know, thing that they like a, a graphic that they put up on the TV and everything. It was really kind of cute. Anyways, they got us tickets to Sweden. That's too. Well, yes, they got us tickets to the wild game. I did not even know at that time that they were playing in this global series. No, I mean, we love the wild. We're a hockey family. I had no idea that this was going to happen. Oh my God. That is so cool. And so they gave us two tickets to the game. We went to the Toronto game, the one against Toronto. And, um, and it was as a thank you for getting them through college. Oh my God. Tom and I both started crying. Well, I'm about, I mean, Schweitz children, are you listening to this? Brown kids? Yeah, come on. You know, let's step it up a little bit here, people. No, I'm not, I'm not telling this story because No, I know, I know. No, but that is lovely. No one up, but You know, and you know what's interesting? It was really amazing. That to me is just, I, I would suggest That you can blame good parenting on that. Well, you can blame whatever you want. Seriously. I mean, I think that, you know, and, and they're lovely kids. Jack has a little one. He does have a little one who is four and a half. He'll actually be five. I remember he was at the Christmas party that we had last year in 2022 and Mrs. Schweitz had instructed me to make name tags. And what's the little guy's name? Blake. Blake, that's right. Blake had a name tag and he thought that that name tag was so cool, like, this is me. It was almost like it was his badge. I think he kept it. He did keep it. He kept it. He kept it. I, I sent you an invoice for, for the, but I never saw remittance of that invoice. For the label? Yes, Steve. So, what's cool about your story is that, um, it obviously took something of them to organize it. Yeah. And, and for young people to pay for something like that. Yeah. Yeah. That. That is amazing. That's not something that we've ever done for my parents. Um, and I can't imagine my kids ever being able to do that. Super thoughtful. How it's thoughtful and it's, it's, it's very generous. Generous of them to give probably more than they had and they figured out how to do it. That is really cool. They are good kids. They are very, very good kids. I will say this about the G& O group. There really ain't a dud in the bunch as far as the kids are concerned. Agreed. We had that Christmas party right before Christmas? Yeah, we couldn't come this year, but yes. Yeah, where were you? No, I think we were hosting something at our house. It was like every single one of these kids and they're so much fun because now they're of, you know, age. Yeah. They can be in the bar. It's different now. Yeah. It's super cool. Well, don't you agree? It's so fun hanging out with your adults. Oh, absolutely. I mean, obviously we've had our fun, you know, family vacations over the years. It's always fun hanging out with your kids. Going, watch them play sports, whatever. But, but the fact that your kids wanna hang out with you is exactly a testament. Uh, we get that too. And it's really like, yeah, wow. You, you're spending your Friday night with us. What? I'm proud of you of that, to be honest with you. It's, yeah, absolutely. I love that. My kids wanna be around us. Yeah. Well, who doesn't want to be around you? Come on. Of course. Well, we're going to push pause, and this is going to be the end of part one of Galentine's Day. So we're going to regroup. We're going to go up and get a beverage. And, uh, come back, uh, later today for, uh, part two of Galentine's Day 2024. That's a wrap. And off we go.
