The Kindness Chronicles

176. The Importance of Gravy w/ Kevin Gorg

John Schwietz

We discuss everything from the Wild, Vikings, Rice Krispie Turkeys and the role gravy plays in a successful Thanksgiving feast.

Who are we playing? Ram Sweden. Yeah, you're damn right. Sweet. You want me play hockey? Is that what you want? I want you to be a hockey. I am a hockey player. Welcome to the Kindness Chronicles, where once again, we hope to inject the world with a dose of the Minnesota kindness that it desperately needs. we're back in the, uh, the studio down next to the fire. We got a fire blazing where we've got our, our blankies on. You know, it's kind of chilly, Doug. It's November in Minnesota. It's very cozy. It's very cozy. And uh, so we got Michael hello Michael. Welcome back from Orlando. Thank you. And Steve is with us. Hi Steve. Hi. Hi. Uh, Jeff Hoffman's back there doing his thing. Hey, on his, is that a drummer's chair that you're on? It's a drum throne. It's a throne, man. Drum. Throne. Is that what they call that? That's what they have. They have thrones. Well, speaking of thrones, the king is also with us kg. Woo. Where have you been? KG. I missed you guys. It's rare to have a Tuesday without hockey. I don't know if you've missed us, but guys I have and just blanket time with your buddies downstairs. There's something special about that. It is. It feels right. It does. It feels right. We might have to break these out all the time. These are fantastic. Definitely the season. Plus you also don't see my stocking feet, so this is good. And it kind of covers up a little bit of camouflage for the midsection. I like it. I like it. Me too. Nobody needs to know what's going on there. So, uh, our special guest today is Kevin Gorg. Welcome, Kevin. Woo. Kevin. Yeah. It's been so long. We feel like we need to get caught up. I, I wanna start with, um, a post that you put on Facebook today. It was, uh, three goalies. There were three goal tenderers there, two of them Swedes, and one of them a state champion. Guess which one was the state champion? You're talking to, oh boy. 1985. 85. 85, yeah. Um, 85 Jerry. 85. It was great to, uh, have a chance to spend some time with those goalies, both, uh, Yesper Volstead and, and Philip Gustafson. They're just such young guys. In fact, the state tournament thing came up'cause Gustafson. Through Matt Bens your cousin, one of the, uh, equipment guys for the wild. He likes to try to needle me about how long ago that tournament was, which is, it's a long time before these guys were born. Yeah. Yeah. But we had a, a great chat about growing up in Sweden and you know, how, how hockey centric their country is and, and then adjusting to life in a different country and being a professional athlete and the pressure of being a goalie and what they do to get away. And it really. A fun, probably, I don't know, half an hour, 45 minute conversation with the three of us. And they're both playing great right now. So it was a good time to have them in the studio to, to talk about, um, some of those things that are going on with the club and, and, uh, they're both just really low key good dudes. So it ties into the Kindness Chronicles for sure. Is Yesper still on his streak of, shoutout Shutouts? Yeah, shutouts, yeah. Yeah, he's got back to back shutouts, uh, over 140 minutes without giving up a goal. He'll likely get to start tomorrow night. It's on national tv, so we're not. Covering the game on our, our network, but it's uh, hit this tomorrow night in St. Paul. 8 55 puck drop. Like my teeth are in the jar normally at 10 o'clock. That is way, way too late. I'm gonna stay up'cause I love watching the wild, but my goodness, what are they doing that, that is late for central time zone. That's no doubt about it. Yeah. We just had a, uh, microphone malfunction. My microphone fell off of its perch, so I'm holding, you know what though? Kinda like Michael Jordan game six six, you know, when he was sick. Yeah. You reacted pretty quickly. It's kind of Freddy, you got a Freddie Mercury thing going there. I You kind of feel Freddie Mercury like that's good. That's exactly, I feel an actual situation. Yeah. So back to UKG, um, the two Swedish goalies, do you think that there's like jealousy when one of them has a a shutout or are they truly in this for the team? Well, they want the team to win, but they talked about competing and every day trying to kind of push each other at practice, trying to gain the net. So there, there certainly is some competition there. And these guys, you know, if you're gonna be an NHL goalie to get where they are, they have to have that competitive streak already. I do think there's a brotherhood, especially with the Swedes, and it's kind of funny when you travel with these guys, if you're walking to the bus or into the rink behind the two goalies, or maybe Eck and Brode are talking, they'll talk in Swedish and you know, I have no idea what they're saying. And they're laughing and I'm like, God, I wonder if they're making fun of me. Maybe they don't like that. More than likely, whatever, because I would've no idea. Right? And so there is definitely a brotherhood there. They wanna win. Like these guys all want the team to do well, but I think that's a fine line because, you know, if, if the one guy, like right now wall's kind of taken over and so Gus is playing far less hockey now than he did a couple weeks ago. So there's a balance there that I'm sure, um, you know, they're pushing and pulling and they want the team to do great, but they also wanna play. So I think that they'd love to see the team win. Six five once in a while rather than these shutouts back to back. So Kevin, I, the early in the season, speaking of goaltending, it was a bit civ like to use our goaltending vernacular. Um, they were letting in a ton of goals and then the young goalie seemed to kind of get them back on track, and now Gus has kind of come back. Did they talk about that a little bit? Did they talk about how they sort of had to write the ship? How they stunk? Yeah. I mean, well, you know how they. How, how they rebounded from that, how they reacted. Because it wasn't, it was a lot, I mean, it wasn't great. I mean, was it was like seven goal? It was, it was a lot of goals. Did they talk about how they had to help each other or how they, you know, tried to right the ship? They did get into that and, you know, I think they understood too, like at the time the team was playing. Poor. Mm. In, in October, the, the team got off to a rough start and I think they even said like, we don't wanna get too high right now because the team is defending better. Mm. And they said the same thing, like start of the year, you know, the team was not playing as well, we weren't playing as well, and it kind of all ties together. So they were pretty upfront about that. And they were disappointed in the start. They, they both had a couple games in October where they felt like they could have been better. And you know, they, they mentioned it like when you play goalie. You get way too much credit when you're winning and you get way too much blame when you end up losing. And so you have to kinda learn to kind of put all that noise aside. You know, I think they both talked about how when, when they're in their good place and they're playing their game, they, they can really kind of drown out the noise. I remember in, uh, that baseball movie with Kevin Cost. And he, he'd be on the mound, right? And Yankee stayed in the crowd would be all and all he'd say to himself, clear the mechanism, and all of a sudden it'd get real quiet. Walstead talked about that today. He said, when I'm playing my best hockey, going back to when I was a kid. When I, when I play, it's just totally quiet. I can't hear the crowd, I can't hear anybody. I'm in that zone When I'm struggling, I seem to hear everything. I can hear the, the vendor over in section 1 25. I can hear, you know, X amount of fans here autonomy me. And that's when you know you're not at your very best. So there, there is something to that. I feel the same way when these guys are in the, uh, the studio. Um, I feel really great. I see that when I'm not hearing them. Like there they go. I heard it. So I must not be at my best. Just to be clear though, Gus the bus, or bus, what do we call'em? Gus? Gus bus. Gus bus. Gus bus. Gus bus. Gu bus is still collecting the superior paycheck out of the two, so I'm sure he'll be okay. Yeah, and he's ultimately the number one guy. He's got the playoff experience, he's got the big game. Experience, experience, but when you got a guy that's put together back Toback shutouts, you, you gotta ride, you gotta ride'em. Mm-hmm. And, and they're gonna ride Ted until, you know it's time to go back to Gus. And so I think you've seen John Hines kind of pick and choose his spots, but I think there was a tell a week in change ago when Walstead played really well on Long Island and the wild flew home for a game. 48 hours later, and all of a sudden now wall sets back in gold. Nine outta 10 times, you're gonna go back to your quote unquote big money guy, your starter. But when he put Yesper back in that net, that's kind of a tell, and that kind of set the tone. Then he gotta shut out. That day. Guss had one start, then he came back and gotta shut out the next game. So it's interesting to see how they've kind of played off each other. You are right. I think you guys mentioned it. Uh, Ted kind of got hot and then Gus kind of had to follow and, and now they're both in a really good spot. Their numbers in November are dramatically better than their numbers that we saw in October. And I, I think that's, and on any hockey team, you know, the goalie is like the quarterback or the pitcher. They're gonna, they're gonna drive the train and, and make sure. If they're on their game, everybody else should probably be at, at, at their best as well. Is anybody else bothered by the fact that Jesper's name is pronounced Yesper and there's a J at the beginning? I dunno why that's always bothered me. Yeah, I don't, I I, you know, I find it exotic. Like, like, like the court? Yes. Is it a court yester? Yeah, it could be. Oh, my name's Jan Schwetz. Ah, good to meet you. I think you could do that. I think you could do that. I'm gonna start, that's gonna be very good. Yeah. Speaking of, professional athletes that seem to be having a tough time. let's talk about our Vikings quarterback. well, it's not good. Not good. Well, hold on now. Let's be nice and kind. Let's be kind. No, but here's, let's be kind. I will say this real quickly. I was impressed with the coach when he said that pre-snap. He looked fantastic. Like he was calling No, like he was pre-snap. Pre-snap. I thought, wow. I think it really matters how you're doing post snapp. Yeah, yeah. You know, pre-snap looks good. Well, I would say the same thing. You know, self-reflection, I look really good. And then the light goes on. Yes. And then I don't look very good. So when I turn the lights back off, yeah. Then I, yeah. No listen. He's a rookie quarterback and if you, we've all watched football our lives. You go back to some of the big names and, and I look at John Elway, one of my all time favorites. He was so bad. His first year in Denver, he had tripled the air that he did touchdown passes. He was getting delay of game penalties. He, it was a struggle for John Elway. He's in the Hall of Fame now. Now, I'm not saying this kid's gonna be in the Hall of Fame, but he's played five games. Sounded like that's where you're going with this. He's played five NFL games as starting quarterback. So I, I do think, and, and I think people in this town, number one, Minnesota football fans are over the top insane. The hype around this kid, he gets hurt. Last year, so we've had like 15 months of buildup about JJ McCarthy, the national Championship at Michigan and high school state champion. The sky's the winner, but listen, it's never that easy when you just step in as a rookie quarterback and light it up. And I will tell you, I don't like the way his receivers are playing. Two weeks. I got Justin Jefferson out there pouting, and then last week he makes an awesome throw, first quarter play action. He's got Addison over the middle for 40 yards. He puts it right in in his hands. His hands, and he drops it. Now, if that, listen, if you're a young player and that guy makes that catch and you get a 40 yard gain, it changes the whole mindset of the game for that quarterback. But he dropped the ball and the offense struggled for three and a half quarters. So I'm not giving up on this kid, and I think people in this town are insane. I'm glad Sam Darnell's not here. I'm glad Daniel Jones is not here because when push comes to shove, I think they're ceiling we've seen already and look no further than last week when Sam darn had zero touchdowns and four interceptions in the game that the Seahawks dominated. Against the Rams and lost 2119 because in big games, Sam darn freaks out, and we saw it last year. At Detroit and at LA in the final two weeks. One in the regular season, one in the post season. I'm gonna give McCarthy at least two years before I make any judgements. Well, let me, let me, let me also, as far as KG goes, uh, with giving this guy a little bit of a pass, not talked about enough. I mean, think about it fellas. He and his girlfriend had a baby three weeks ago. He is got a new baby in his house and the kids Wow. The kids, the kids just barely an adult himself. He's like 22 or 23, and he is got a new baby in his house. That he's gotta contend with. I mean, I Bad excuse. Oh, I see, I see. Bad excuse. You know what, you're a professional. Alright. Just get out there and you know what else? I don't like what? That he's got a baby. Nope. The war paint. Why does he have to put all that black stuff on? Steve, have you watched any of JJ McCart? Do you know who we're talking about? I'm sorry. I you're falling asleep over there so, so cozy. I know I was. I was, uh, I was disappointed. Last few weekends. Yes. Oh, good. I'm watching. I'm happy. I think he is good. I think KG iss right? I think he's just gotta get his, get under his, get his wheels underneath him. You know? That's not why I like to say it. Is that how you say it? I like that. Did you just make that up? I like that underneath. I, that, that, I think he's good. I, I, I don't, I don't, you know, I don't paint my face or anything like that. Get excited for the game yet, but, uh, but I'm, I put on a, you know. Yeah. I think the war paints a little much. Yeah. It's like, come on, man. Yeah. It's kind of this thing though, right? Know what though? He doing that back to his days in our school. You don't working. It ain't working. Oh, you guys, you know what has anything do with the face? Face? Apologize. I need to to be more kind. Yeah, you do. This is the kindness Chronicles, John. I mean, you're correct, you're correct. I think, I think this is almost talking sports is almost like politics because everyone's got a strong opinion about Right. The, the capabilities of, but obviously kg you're a qualified professional. We are, but, uh, mere, you know, viewers and me very minimally a viewer and have the rest, we're all watching the same thing. I mean, he's, yeah, he's clearly struggling. The team is. Clearly underperforming. There's no way of getting around that. But you know, Kevin O'Connell, who was the coach of the year, uh, a year ago, um, hasn't forgotten how to coach football. He'll, he'll get this thing figured out. I thought their schedule this year was much more difficult than what they had last year, and I think they've had some games that they've let getaway, including last week against the Bears. But part of this, listen, you know, what gets overshadowed by the L against the Bears is. McCarthy Drew drove him down and they took the lee with like 35 seconds to go in the football game. Too much time and I'm sorry, but Well, yeah. Too much time when you get up a 70 yard kickoff return. Yeah. Which they did. Um, again, there are other areas that need to be cleaned up. Uh, they have, they have struggled. And I think people in Minnesota specifically, we all live here. It's a Viking centric town. People don't really start following the wild or the wolves till the Viking season is over, and maybe it is already. I think this week at Green Bay is kind of the tipping point. If Minnesota can somehow go down to Green Bay, and they've had some big upsets at Lambo over the years. It's a rivalry game and strange things happen, but they can win this week. Then the season kinda lives on. I think if they go down and get beat by Green Bay this week, I think it's over. And I think people stop caring Kg. Do you have a Mountain Dew or something? You seem really Yes. Pretty up man. This is, you know what, we've been missing you sports. We've been missing you. We haven't talked to him for a long time. I know you're, he's making up for lost time. Time I guess so we're. Yeah, there were several times I wanted, is this a long story? He, I think he shot two Red Bulls while he was at the CVS. Hey, it's the last thing I need. I have one be kind of behind the scenes kindness, uh, question for you. Um, I did check, um, you out in a broadcast recently. Uh, I think you interview a player between periods. A lot of those players, English isn't their first language, and they've just come off the ice and they're a bit outta breath and they're all sweaty. You only have so much time, maybe 90 seconds to inter, are there times when you don't understand what they're saying and you just nod you? I mean that you really don't know what they're saying? That's a great question. In fact, I know if you were watching a couple days ago, there was an interview with Yakov Trendon. And he knock off is very hard to understand. And he, like a lot of guys, you know, he's speaking a second language. There's a camera, right? Like a foot from his face. He gets nervous, he speeds up. Um, his answer, I heard it, but I had to think about it and I. I think there are times when, you know, Carri is another one where you really have to kinda slowly ask the question because you forget sometimes, right? Like, let's put ourselves in their shoes. Let's say we were over there Yeah. Doing the kindest chronicles in Moscow, like trying to speak Russian and trying to do it without something like an idiot. I, I'm not sure. In a short period of time, like a year or two, I could figure that out and be that comfortable. So I give these guys a ton of credit. Can, can you start, can you start saying, come again? Like when you're, when you're doing the interview? Yeah. Are you sure you're speaking English right now? I'm with the kg. Anyone who speaks two languages fluently deserves a lot more credit than people give him. I would agree with that. Look at you. That is kindness right there, right? That's true. We all, you have to give though. You gotta give him some grace. So Yaakov, is he from Ireland? Probably not Cleveland. He just came from Cleveland. Yeah, he's an Italian gentleman. So we've covered the wild, we've covered the Vikings. The twins have got bad. The new coach. That's really good. The wolves, I don't care about. What I do care about is a holiday that's coming up. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Now we're talking. Now we're talking, and I think that it's important for us to discuss in this time of, professional football upheaval and, political strife. Right. And files and files. Files. Epstein files. Yeah. This, there's a lot. File gate, there's a lot to consider when you are around a Thanksgiving dinner table. Yes. So I think we should, uh, just discuss maybe some special suggestions. You know, when it comes to, if somebody brings up, here's the deal. If you don't want to be invited for Christmas, start talking politics at Thanksgiving. You know how, Steve, how do you do, do you run, I you have a pretty big family and I know you guys celebrate the holidays. Do you ever find yourself in a situation? Don't name names. I know they all listen where you're thinking to yourself, how, how do I get out of this? Um, no, because we all, we're all pretty familiar with all the characters in the story of our family. Okay. And so, I mean, we can all get together and enjoy each other without. Um, but there are some hot button issues. Mm-hmm. If you start pushing on that stove, it'll start cooking. So I just know how to just be careful and every, everybody really, everyone really just wants to eat some food, hang out. Right. And if you start going too far. It gets to be a little weird, but nothing terrible. You just gotta get your wheels under you. That's what I always say. Did you hear, did I say that every, I say it all the time. I think it's important to get your wheels under you. That's a great metaphor for just, just moving. I think you just made one up. Yeah. I don't know if anyone's ever used. Get your wheels under you sports. I heard that when I was playing football as a game. Well. Oh, get your wheels outta that says a lot. What do you do? What do you keep you chopping? Yeah, go, go back to the, uh, Thanksgiving. The family gets together. Oh, that's a good one too. Mm-hmm. What do you do with the, uh, kids that are. Emerging adults. I think about my daughters, right? Yeah. And my daughters. What do you mean? What's your question? Well, well, because they're, you know, let's say they're in high school, they're in college, and they have some pretty strong opinions. Oh yeah. And then, you know, uncle Bob, you know, walks in that Uncle Bob could be canceled with every sentence that he says and Right. And then, but then there, your daughters are looking and they, so what do you, yeah. What is your scenario? How do you kind of. Curb that or help that or, well, sometimes I'm two rooms away, but Uncle Bob pops off and you're like, oh my goodness, how's daughter one gonna react? How is she gonna react? Because Will Ben. Yeah. Some, well, sometimes I do have to swoop in because that's where it can be volatile. Right. I think a little role playing on the way to the event h helps with your kids. Oh yeah. Very good. Role playing. That's good. So do you play Uncle Bob then Jeff? I, I will, uh, not Uncle Bob per se, but I'll just sort of pre-warn some things that might be said, and this is maybe what is really being meant by it. And so to not take offense by it. Oh, that's good. Yeah, it works. Unfortunately for my daughter, I am Uncle Bob. Um, it is a, uh, I say things there, no doubt about that. But you say things for reaction. Oh, for sure. Here I do. You work. I do. They know your personality. That's, that's what you are trying to do though, will be comments made. Yeah. That will go unappreciated. How does the John Schitz brain work? Sometimes? I'm so surprised some of the things you say and you get away with it. And somehow it's charming. Yeah, endearing. I know, right? Thank you. And then people give you money. Yeah. That's the other thing. It's really, it's remarkable. Isn't, isn't it, that I have made a career out of I don't know what it is. I do think it's just, I think you do, you do often say, you say things frankly for um. Shock that you shock, but also, um, I think you're, you like to put stuff out there. I'm gonna tell you one real quick. Give it to us. Oh boy. Alright. So I have mentioned, I don't know if I've mentioned on the podcast, but there's a situation going on between the University of Minnesota, the University of Minnesota physicians. The University of Minnesota Foundation and Fairview Hospital, and it's all over the news. It's a big story right now, and the new president of the University of Minnesota Foundation, real nice guy. New, brand new. And he had called and, you know, asked my thoughts and I said, you know, you gotta just make sure that you're putting your saddle on the right horse. And Mm, he thanked me for, for wheels, my advice and stuff. Yeah. Get your wheels underneath you too. Hit your wheels underneath you. I'm gonna start telling people that, but then he, he, he sent me the fist pump emoji. No, he did not. He did? Oh no he did not said, oh no. And I said, don't be a fist pump emoji guy. Let's not be that guy. Were you too professional to do that? Or like when is that Okay? It's, you know what, I'm not sure it's ever Okay. Think. Don't be that guy. That's good. That was you. Sing over it. Did I sing over it? Play it again. Jeff. Play one more time. Don't be that guy. Oh, that's good too. We didn't get that kg. Yeah. I think it's awesome. Do you guys remember those commercials? The Real American Hero commercial? Oh, yes. I miss them. That reminded me of the real American heroes. Yeah. Mr. Face Paint at the football game. Yeah, that, that's that guy, right? Like the Don't be that guy. Yeah. That was. That was, that was good. That was good. Jeff, did you have something you wanted to continue with John? Just don't, I just thought that was kind of fun. Just dont be the fist pump guy. Yeah. Fist pumps are for little children. I've never used one. Never in a professional setting. No. But also I think it's funny that you said that you kind of called him out'cause you don't know'em that well. Yeah. And what was his reaction? No reaction. Oh. Haven't heard from him since. Oh, power move. That was a power move. I'm fine with it. I am fine with it. It's all good. But don't you just feel, again, I think that it is it's the difference between being kind and being nice. I could be nice and give him a fist pump back. Yeah. Or I could be kind and say, let's not do fist pumps. Yeah. But now you got him. Now you got him thinking, you know, a little bit like, right. You know what Exactly. Yeah. So what did you do, John? Did you give, probably made him a better man. Did you give him the Brazilian sort of kiss, kiss on each cheek? Then he said, let's do that instead. Or was you No, no. He did it. It was, it was, it was a text. It was virtual image. It was an image of a fist bump. I could have given him the emoji, you know, smooch thing. But, so John, you s. Replied to him and said, let's not do that, and this is why I don't like it. Or did you just think it and no, you did respond. Oh my gosh. Did respond. Oh my gosh, I'm, that's hilarious. And there, there was no replies. I think it's awesome. There was no replies. Stop sign emoji. The reply was a cricket emoji. Well, how does this, how does this go back to Thanksgiving? We got big, we got families coming together. So at Thanksgiving. Yeah, I, I'm gonna say that I think that it's important for. Uh, for us to whisper wise counsel before the event. I like it. And say, uncle Bob is gonna say things. Yeah. I think, you know, like Jeff said, yeah. To your point, Jeff, I think that doing some role playing is a, is a, is a really great idea. I'm sure that my kids, my wife probably does that. I usually, so th the Wednesday night before the big event, we always celebrate Grandma Connie's birthday, she's turning 89. That's right. And it's a really fun night. Everybody gets together. I go to bed at about nine 30 because I've had enough. Um, and about 1230 I will take over the, uh, the little Marshall speaker and closing time. The closing time song. For some reason, my phone will override anybody else's. I've done it, I've done it before. Um, and part of it is, is I want them to go home and get some sleep.'cause they got work to do in the morning, right? Yeah. Like getting the, the meal already. Right. So why do you think so? Do you think you're like your, your social, tank filled up and you, you had enough and you know you have more coming the next, why would you go to bed at nine 30 with a bunch of people in your house? Well, for starters, this right here. That's a good question. This doesn't just happen. Oh, this takes some work, some rest, right? Right here. The face. That's a, yeah. Yeah. I could use a tan. Oh my God. Well, that light doesn't help. That light does not help. Do we have something that could soften that light, Jeff? I could work on that disco. There's already three filters on the damn thing. I mean, we're sitting down like Tish men here with this. Kilts and whatever. Celtic. This is a very, I like it. We got, I think it's Celtic, well, Celtic with Celt Is Celtic, is that a word? That's okay. His wheels are under, it's kind of like cel, his wheels are under a shot. So you, so you, you check out at nine 30. I want to go back to, uh, Steve's question. Do you, do you have a social jar that you're like, all right, I'm done. It's full. I gotta, I gotta check out, oh, it's probably filled before I even start the, uh, the event. Yeah, yeah. You know, we've got, here's an example. Next Saturday, a week from Saturday at the dugout, Johnny Clueless. We'll be in concert. Right. And I got a bunch of people going. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. And I made it very clear to him, is KG coming after the first set? I'm history. I'm walking home. Oh, not working that Saturday. Shooter, you walking home? No, no. I'm not walking home. They're walking home. I'm taking the car with me, John. I don't, I don't fault you. As a matter of fact, the last time I saw Johnny Clueless, I left after not even the first set. Well, you were chatting the whole time. Well, no, but, but then I walked outside and I looked through the window. Oh yeah. At Steve do about three songs. My wife and I just, Pete Pappies, you know, we just, we just stood outside because, oh, this, yes, because I could, I, my jar was full and then I I'm with you with, you mean it with, it was too loud, grandpa. Okay. Not, not too loud. You know, this is devolved into the not So Kindness chronicles to that guy. So, back to Thanksgiving, I, I, we do this every year. We've done it for several years, but I'd like to just go around and I'd like you to remind me of what's your favorite. Thanksgiving Fair is what's your favorite food? what are you looking forward to? And we're gonna start with you, Jeff, because you haven't been here for Thanksgiving. Special. And this is special. It's my mom always would make this cranberry, um, cat, or it was sort of a cranberry salad, I think she called it, but it was mixed with cool whip and it was a, in a sort of a nice mold and you'd turn it upside down and it was sort of like, and then a wiggle ice cream. No, it was, it was almost more of an ice cream. Oh. And uh, so nice. When you started with cranberries, I thought, are we really gonna start with a fruit? Butran doesn't, but it's sort of like a raspberry ice cream almost feel with cool whip all mixed in and it's just nice. Nice. With the sweet and savory thing. Does she still make it? Well, they're in Arizona right now, so I don't get that. I might, it's hot for that there. Melts kg. What's yours? Well, I think the basics are all great, but what ties it all together for me? Is the gravy. I love the gravy. You seem like a gravy guy So much. I put it, I put it on the potatoes. Yeah, I put it on the Turkey. I put it on the, the dressing, and I like to get the corn in there. I like it all jumbled together. To me, the gravy is the key to the whole experience. You gotta have a good gravy. It's the connective tooth. Yeah. There's no, no doubt about that. Is that where the saying good gravy comes from? Yes. You get to wheels better than does Vy. Okay. Michael, how about you? Um, you know, I spend a lot of time with the bird. I mean, he's, he is a chef. He cooks all I, I spend a lot of time, it's a, it's a multi-day process with the bird, with the brining and the rubbing and the freshness. And the one's smoked and one's baked. And really we do the same thing. Yeah, we do one on the Traeger and then we do one in the oven. Yeah. Yeah. It's the, you, it's, it's the, it's the bird. It's the Maine, it's the bird. But I, I will, so that's my favorite food. But what I've really enjoyed doing, and I think we've talked about this in the past as, as, uh, my nephews and my nieces and my kids, and they've all gotten older, they wanna participate. So to today will be the day that I assign roles that I assign. You're, you know, making the ma mashed potatoes, you're making the. And it's a, it's a big deal with these kids because if you get like the charcuterie tray, everyone you know, laughs at you like, ha ha, you, you didn't, you don't need to. They don't trust you enough to cook. Yeah. You can't cook anything. Yeah. But. That's one of the things I find that the charcuterie, uh, board, we like to say a charcuterie board around here. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Um, it, that's usually reserved for like high level artistically. Yeah. It's talented. It's kind of a creative challenge. Yeah, it is. I'm right. It is, it, it is. Mashed potatoes come on. I mean, a break. Well, I, I, I mean, have you made a lot of mashed potatoes? Not me. I just Exactly. You don't know. You don't know. I do you the mashed Yeah. So, so Turkey. That's what I would say. What about you? I don't like Turkey. Yeah. I really don't You, you'd rather have wrong. No, he's not, he's not alone. There's a lot of people I, I would prefer, I mean, I love all the starches. Yeah. And I too believe that the gravy kind of brings it all together. Yeah. It's a glue. My, uh, mother-in-law makes a, uh, creamed corn thingy. I love that. That's just phenomenal. Yeah. And you know, I like the scum on the side. The burnt, the burnt part. Sure. Yeah. Called the, and then my dad used to make this, uh, stuffing with little. Pieces of sausage in it. Oh yeah. Sausage stuff. You could call that crust instead of scum. It might just kind of come across a little better. Yes. Kind of a crut probably is more of an appropriate description, but we, we, I've always referred to it as the scum. Yeah. Um, it's sort of like, you know, when you're eating a cake and there's that little layer of stuff that's left on the bottom of the tray? Yeah. It's very, oh, yeah. Yeah. That's the scum. I, you know, we fight over the scum. Oh. But, um, okay. Yeah, my dad used to make this stuffing. He, he died. Yeah. So, so my mom make it is gonna try and make it. I'm sorry. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sorry. I know. Well, that'll be delicious though. It's first without him, man. That's sad. Yeah. We were, my Becky wanted us to talk about dealing with loss at a, and I'm like, we're not gonna do that. So she doesn't listen to the show anyway, so too bad. Without going into too much detail. How's it going though? Just a high level. Is it, are you processing it okay? Oh yeah. Or is it pretty tough? I mean, you know, he was sick, you know? Yeah, yeah. You know, when they get that sick, you're, you feel good that they're no longer feeling that sick. Yeah, it's true. But my favorite food are those two items, and I agree with kg. The gravy makes the difference. My sister-in-law, she likes to make a Turkey out of, Rice Krispies. It's like a huge rice Krispy tree. Oh yeah. With the, uh, the gliss Oh, cool. In the form of fresh milk duds. Mm-hmm. Oh my. Yeah. That's smart. Yeah. Yeah. That thing is gone by. Yeah. By that evening. How, how is it a huge, like a Turkey football? Bigger than that. Really? No, it's like the size of the biggest Turkey you've ever seen. So, so she makes several pans of re bars and then like. I wanna, yeah, that us, we'll post a picture of that. I like that. Well, I'll post a picture of that. It's, I do look forward to that. Oh, what, what's that? So that Turkey do you like? Yeah, I do like that Turkey. What's gone first? The charcuterie or the Turkey with git milk duds. Oh. Gone first. There's always, you know, the, nobody eats the olives on the charcuterie board. Oh yeah. You know, there's stuff, there's garbage on those things. I will say that the Canga who are dear friends of ours, she makes one of the best charcuterie boards.'cause all it has on it is the good stuff. It's got cheeses and the meats. Yeah. Oh yeah. What kind of crackers does she throw on there? The good ones. The Ritz, the buttery ones. You know what, there's not enough Ritz crackers on a charcuterie. They gotta be fancy ones, but she finds some good fancy ones. Steve, what's your favorite thing to eat? I know your mom makes Italian food. We just divide. No, we, we do. Oh, is that Christmas On Thanksgiving? That's Christmas. Okay. Uh, we just divided it up. We got the text, the whole group text, and everyone's split up their stuff and yeah. Um, I always make the potatoes, but it's really my mom's recipe that she got from her friend Joyce. So they're, they're called Joyce's wonderful potatoes. Oh, that's good branding. It's incredible. They're incredible. My kids, uh, we, everyone devours them and I'll probably make two things of them. Five pounds versus of potatoes per Ooh. So we go through it, but that's not my favorite meal. That's not my favorite part of the meal. Yeah. What is it? It's my mom's dressing. Ah. She makes incredible dressing and no one else makes it. It's not like you've told us about this. Are you referring stuff, stuff, stuffing some weird stuff in there. There's raisins in it. Yeah, my dad does that. But it's incredible. It's good. It's got the bread and it's got bits. Sausage can around that. It is incredible. If you don't to put too many in there, it's a nice little sweet and savory. I got no problem with raisins. Our family is all about raisins, but she puts it in her lasagna. We've talked about it when we talked to her, the sweet and savory. I, I would agree. Yeah. Hey, uh, Thanksgiving is upon us. I love it. Also, it's just, you know, there's. There's not the gifts, right? It's really just a time to come together. And I also like to, you know, it gives you an opportunity. Rarely do you get an opportunity to really connect with many of those people. You don't see them all year or they're popping in and out, but it's this long period of time where, you know, you might be able to actually have an extended conversation with somebody that you don't see very often. And I, I look forward to that. I do too. I, we always say this'cause we've had this show a few times. It's the best holiday because there's no obligation of anything except getting together and eating and, and hanging out together and watching football. Well, yeah. It's in, yeah. Don't forget about the football. Yeah. Do you get your, get your fantasy teams in before Thursday? Do you guys actually sit and sit and watch it though? Or is it on in the background? Oh yeah. We have it on in the background. Both we're watching it. Oh geez. We watching KG is watching it'cause he's got his, how are your fantasy teams doing, Kevin? Well, last night was a pivotal night. Thanks for asking. I, I survived another week at Mike Keine. But you know, this year, Thanksgiving, sometimes the games are kind of like dog meat, but this year we get. Hackers at Lions at noon. Oh, that's Mahomes And the Chiefs at Dallas at three 30. Uh, those are two good, good games. And I know John, your mother-in-law will probably have, uh, her Patrick Mahomes jersey on while she serves some of the goodies. So it's gonna be a great Thanksgiving. And who, what's the third game? Third game is the Ravens and Bengals, albeit the movie. That's our Thanksgiving tradition. We, we watch football and eat all day, and then we go to the movies at night. What are you gonna see? Do you know? I think we're gonna go see Wicked. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, wicked too. That's the new Wicked, like part two. Yeah. Looks fantastic. Yeah, that'll be a good one. Well, I feel like we've really solved some of the world's problems here today. Oh, have we? Don't you? I don't. Yeah, you're right. I just, it's nice to, it's nice to get KG back together. Everybody's here. It's kind of nice to be here. We're all cozy up, sitting down. It's it. It does feel good to be getting kind of hot. I have a recomme. There's no doubt. On the before, before everybody eats. It's fun to go around and have everybody share what they're thankful for. Of course. Yeah. Yeah. In case you don't do that, I'm seeing, I might have to say the kindest Chronicles actually. Oh boy. Listen to you. It'd be nice. This is like a second family show up once in a while for, Hey, I'm sorry. We're doing it on Tuesdays when the Wild have, I know. Games every single Tuesday. Every month. But, so here, here, here's the, it makes this show that much better. You know what? There you go. I'm gonna, I'm gonna go off script right here. Oh, and I'm gonna ask you a question is, I lost my script. So here's an example. I had invited KG to come to me, to with me, uh, at seven o'clock in the morning to go see his friend's, pa and, uh, Dube. Come on. Oh. Not Dubay. Why are we talking about Dubay? No, PA and Birch and, um, Ben Lieber. So those guys, all the guys and Kg said, you know, the guys, this is at seven o'clock in the morning. He said, you know, it's tough for me. No, no, you said it's tough for me to do those things on the days that the wild plays. They play at seven o'clock at night for Christ sake. Okay, well then, okay, let's play the game. Yeah. Day in the life, let's do it. So my better half, my better half leaves about six 30 every day. Right. And it's right by where the event was. I, right? I would've to leave 6, 6 30. I've done these. In fact, I've never seen these before. I know you have. And I've gotta be at the rink at nine. Oh, you do? We have a production meeting. And your dogs have to pee. We at 10 and, and so I would be gone from six 30 until one or one 30. That's not fair to the dogs. No, you're right. I, I too much. See what he did there? Flipped it on me. I love for breakfast. No, the breakfast was terrible. Pa take a walk in his shoes, John. It was take a walk in his shoes sometime. Production. Production. What did he tell, what did he tell George? Step up. Remember Tony, step off. George, step off. Please don't tell me to step off. Please, please tell me no. But Tom, when you, when you tuck it at nine 30, do you leave him on a high note? That's the question. When you finally ended up socializing. Night before Thanksgiving. It's nine 30. You want to go up? You better leave on a high note. Just like George. Absolutely. You got to leave on a laugh. Absolutely. I wait. You gotta do it, man. Get out everybody. You gotta do it. Wait for the moment. That's it, everybody. I'm outta here. And then for the, the Thanksgiving dinner at about three o'clock I'll say, well look at the time. Yep. That's the it. And then I'll look at guys, pack up and get back out. Why are you laying? Laying in my spot on the couch. Get out of here. Mm-hmm. They're pretty much used. To you now, right? We can't thank you enough for the time. Yeah, they've gotten used to me. Alright. This has been terrific. Why don't you play the music back there, Jeff? All righty with that. Thank you. Kg. It was great catching up everybody. Every guys happy Thanksgiving, everybody. Those blankies. And with that, off we go. Here comes the Sunday, but it's the same thing all your, when one person follows up, there's always someone like Bloom, Burrell, or anyone to come back. Put the goal in. I can't believe it. I just can't believe it. Every time we never quit. I can't. This team is incredible. That's kg. Congratulations. How standing. Thank you so much. Ah, great to have you. KG kg already. He left. He missed that. He's outta the building. Good on everybody. Good night everybody. Here's another one I got for him. Here we go. Fine. You want me to take you test? I'll take your test. Is that what you want? No, I want to see that kid in Annette who wouldn't take the test. That's beautiful. Yeah. I kinda like this, uh, outro music. Is that how you refer to it in the production business? That's right. Interesting. Thanks everyone. All right.
