Uhm, and, uh, I think it's appropriate because of Halloween that we we kind of tell.

Maybe maybe a scary story that that that, uh, maybe gets your heebie jeebies up or something like that.

Yeah, I I have a story.

Let's start off with you.

I would say scary to me, 'cause I've never been in this situation.

I want to say maybe about seven years back.

I I was out there in Bolivar.

Uhm, I was launching off.

What was known as a broken bridge?

And as I'm coming down the ICW, I'm gonna work the ICW and the current was ripping.

Pretty pretty good if you don't have a good cat kayak, I definitely wouldn't recommend it at the current strip.

And don't even think about launch matter fact, don't even do that.

I wouldn't even.

Launch there, but.

Sometimes that current rips through there and it's really tough, but that wasn't the scary part.

The scary part is I'm working my my way to the to this area down the ICW.

There was a dolphin there and the dolphin would pop up.

And when he first.

He popped up.

He was at a.

20 maybe 20 yards or so, so he was kind of close but not close enough.

And then he started getting close here and closed there and he would pop up right next to my kayak and then blow his blow thing right on me.

So I'm getting wet from this this dolphin and in my mind I'm thinking man dolphins are friendly.

Like you know, they're smart.

They're not trying to hurt anybody.

And the thing was bumping my kayak with his nose and then and then when I think he's gone and I'm thinking I'm in a safe area.

I kind of pulled into canal and thinking I'm safe, he just pop right up and blow his thing right on me and just scare the crap out of me because the dolphin was a huge dolphin.

He was he was almost the same size.

My kayak if not.

And uh, yeah.

That kind of scared me, especially when he started bumping my kayak and I could feel him like dumping it.

And I'm like, oh man, and then he'd get literally right next to me and just blow his thing at me.

And for a while I didn't like dolphins.

I was like man, I hate those days.

He's being a real jerk that one dolphin man.

And then I'd be all up in the canal.

One of these canals and he just pop right up.

And when I'm like, Oh my God.

And good.

I I think I think I think it's safe to say that a lot of us don't like dolphins, not because like they're.

They're really cool, look at, but because the the the conception that people have is that whenever you see dolphins of fishing kind of sucks in that area because it kind of turns off.

The live video or the OR they they actually pinned up that route I was.

I was out there on the other side of the ICW, way down there by Freeport and that was by the ICW and I have a live video where they pinned it right up against the wall.

And I was live, so this is all happening live.

And I was catching the catching trout so I doubt that same situation happened in Louisiana.

I mean there had to be millions, maybe not millions.

Oh, a ton.

Of crowd because it was like maybe like.

Maybe 5 to 10 pods just blowing up eating chunk and I was still catching them and this is out there by Grand Isle.

I was out there fishing right before the tournament, right the bull tournament.

And I I.

Remember this story because I was we're supposed to fish, right?

The bull, everybody all lined up before they shoot the gun and I was like man, you know what?

I don't even feel like doing this tournament so.

I just book it.

Across the the the right.

By the bridge and one of the boats runs on hey man, you know.

But you know, we're.

Not supposed to launch off yet, and I say man, I'm not gonna finish this tournament.

I'm gonna go fish these I need.

I don't even blame you, so I took my way to the other side and I started working some rocks and some jetties and.

Man, it was just amazing to see and sometimes you catch them, you know and sometimes you spook them and.

You know you're not catching nothing in that area, you know.

Yeah, I've I've had plenty of times where where I'll see dolphin, but I'll be still catching.

Especially over in the past saying we pass.

Uh, there's just so much.

Yeah, yeah, I think in in bigger schools right then?

Yeah, smaller school, they're not gonna feed, but if they're really large amounts.

He likes to see dolphins because it shows him where the fish are, which is true if the dolphins are in the area, there's probably their food in the area, meaning you know deficient.

First started kayaking. Uhm, and this is when Kev Texas kayakfishing.com was big and there's a bunch of forms.

It was a big forum and I learned a lot on there.

Still learn a lot, which it's still up.

Uhm, but back then I was, you know, as a college student, I thought I was invincible and I can do anything.

So I got the itch to do bTB out of like the Matagorda area going off the beach and so there are some rigs out there.

And, uh, one day after I've been out a few times, one day, I decided I couldn't find anybody to go with.

I went, I went solo and.

And it was the most.

Uncomfortable trip I've ever been on.

Just because when I was out there, it was.

Ice cream conditions, flat calm, I just could not shake like the feeling of like dread because I'm a couple miles offshore.

There's nobody else that I could see.

I mean, I my folks knew where I was, but I I was just by myself.

And it just was not an enjoyable trip.

Of course, that feeling went away because I started catching fish, like whenever you catch fish, everything great.

So like I had to run on my rod I was strolling.

Around I gotta run.

On on on I was trolling for Kingfish I gotta run that got me excited I got when I got closer to rigs I I was dropping bait down.

I had like squid or something like that.

UM and I when I was.

Bringing it up a whole.

School of Red Snapper came up.

Like I could see him.

Oh wow.

This was just swimming around and I started like I got my I had like a knife and I started cutting up some and just chunking little pieces of squid down and all these fish started coming up.

And and then, of course, when the fish.

Come up so they're the sharks.

So I was there by myself and it was just like almost not really a frenzy, but it was kind of like sometimes they're just popping out the water and these structures come up and and I turn around.

I I just looked back and there is this I don't know what kind of shark I don't.

I'm not expert at the diner.

Finding sharks is brown.

Uhm, but it was just as big as my kayak and had a I was using the 13 foot Hobie revolution.

It looked just as big mckichan it.

It knows the back of my kayak like he came up out.

Of surface, just no.

Yeah, I went.

I went in after that.

Like I didn't being being the only person out there and and just everything was happening.

I I I did not feel safe anymore and I just left and actually.

To go back to that snapper spot though.

Yeah, yeah, and uh and.

It's not no Texas Texas State waters, huh?

Yeah it was and and unfortunately that is actually last time they went bTB kayaking.

Yeah, I've never never been back.

We catch some kingfish do that.

After a while, it's like, yeah, I get it.

But I mean it's fun though, like you know he's at rolling and then you.

Know that sucker goes off and it's.

And so yeah, that that's my not really spooky but it was scary for me and I have plenty of scary stories we ever find me always at.

So the way that we're going to approach this is we're going to go the the the kind of the when, when would you consider fall fishing?

What is fall fishing to you and and then we'll kind of go with where to go.

Uh, and uh, you can go ahead and just answer that now I have an idea of when it is, but for you, when is your definition of fall fishing?

But guess when the temperature starts turning the other way.

So like the the first, the first front basically yeah yeah.

Uhm, I actually think for me, and this is just from my experience.

Fish, they have some sort of internal clock in inside them.

Obviously the external of you know the external from the temperatures.

That kind of kicks them off, but I think they know that at some point this is around the time the front that's going to get.

Cooler so for me fall fishing kind of kicks off in late August early September, regardless of whenever the fronts come.

Uhm, and the reason why I say that because I see it with flounder.

Uhm, but as a recap.

Flounder fishing obviously kicks off whenever these cold fronts come through.

But I think that the flounder actually start feeding earlier than that, and you can actually follow them down through the Bay.

A lot of times I actually my flounder.

Because you have a lot of freshwater that dumps further up from North UM and that float flows down through chocolate out into the open Bay and a lot of that shrimp, they'll start up there and then work their way down. You have you have March systems in chocolate at the 2004 bridge you can launch there.

Position yourself in areas where you have water flushing out because of the front or you have a it transitions from a shallow to deep.

So when I so basically drains.

If you during these cold fronts, whenever that wind shifts to the north, usually no matter what the no matter what the the tide is doing when that wind shifts in the north here in Galveston, it flushes the water out.

So if you're positioned in front of a drain.

That water is coming out.

And of course, you gotta check the weather.

In today's case it rained and it was windy, so maybe that you know you would have to take that in consideration.

But there are some fronts where they're all there is is just when there's really no rain associated with it and.

And just sitting in front of a drain getting that north wind to push that water out.

My my my best fishing shirt were back then when it was limited 10 trout and redfish and flounder not red.

Fishing planet was 1010 trout, three or four Reds and the five flounder I I did the limit of everything just sitting.

At a drain.

You know, just sitting there casting.

Just keep casting up in that open that drain, letting it come out and I would, you know, I wonder if I want flounder.

I have a unique story about a channel I was focusing close to where you're talking about and.

It was weird though there were, so I was working this channel, it was.

Bay on the backside and a big day on the front side and one child that came through.

Yeah, I know, and I was one of the one one of the one channels I went through and it was big trials catching.

First, it was a school of trout, then it was a school of redfish and then it was a school of flounder.

Here and I think I might have caught 1 trout.

And there, but it was.

It was just like different schools of fish.

That was weird and unique thing that that happened to me and I just remembered it.

Yeah, another another thing and kinda test how, how, how when I say estuaries.

How far up we go there were times whenever with the with with these events like this when the water flushing out of these drains I would catch.

You know, in the very beginning it would be like trout Reds and in flounder and at the very end it'll be bass and catfish like channel cats and stuff.

Like that?

As a as a fresh fresher water started pumping out.

Uhm so there there are.

Definitely you know during these times that's that's something that you can target.

Another one like I said from shallow to deep again you having all this water dump out with the north wind.

Uhm, these fish will go up shallow and it'll start feeding really really heavily and you can work your way out towards a deeper water.

As the front comes in so you can start shallow or tops and everything like that and they'll start up there and then.

That front coming through and you can work your way back to the deeper areas.

Uhm, my actually another one of my best times.

We were out in a in a Jon boat and we were launching right before the front came through.

We had probably a couple hours and but you could see like this this the line of storms coming in the distance and we were at the boat ramp and there's this, uh, it was there was a game warden there.

And he was checking people coming out of the water, and we're the only boat leaving.

And he's like he came over to us and he's like you guys going out right now he's like, yeah, you don't see the storms.

We know we'll we'll be back before then.

Uhm, it went out there.

Uhm, and it was literally we all we brought with topwaters and it was just every cast or just hooking up on trout.

I even for the first time I even used a Popper like a proper top water and I was just blooping it across the surface and I had this route coming out after it and and we stayed a little bit too late because the stormcloud off.

To us

And we're in a little Jon boat and it went from, like you know, at the time it was like 5 mile an hour winds to like 2020 to 30 and we had to go slow to go over all these little these crests in the in the waves and started whitecapping.

We got back.

And the first, the first initial gust that comes through is like.

You know it's not there.

You can start smelling the rain too and everything.

But we got back to the ramp and the game warden was still there.
