It's no question that, as humans, we like to find our identity in things we were never meant to identify with. This year especially, as our lives as we knew them were shaken up, we realized how much we found ourselves in our jobs, our relationships, our finances, our political parties... and the list can go on.
But the Bible has something else to say. "Adopted" is one of our truest identities in Christ, and that relationship we have with God cannot be changed, no matter the circumstances we find ourselves in.
